We are re-issuing our interview with book author Dean Koontz as it was the most popular episode of Dog Save The People during 2020. With the circumstances this past year of the pandemic, many found comfort and normalcy in the simple act of taking their dog for a walk every day. With Dean, observing his dog’s curiosity during walks, helped him to re-look at the world, he started being more observant of his immediate surroundings, more appreciative of everyday natural life outside We thought it would be fitting to share his episode again, as it's so representative of many dog owners around the world are feeling – now, more than ever. Dean Koontz is a number one bestselling author whose work spans six decades and has had both commercial and critical success. His books have sold more than 500 million copies to date. Koontz also has written about several dog characters in his work, including his new book DEVOTED. Dean has had three dogs of his own now – each of whom has had their own impact on him, but especially his first dog, Trixie. The dogs have come from Canine Companions for Independence, an organization that provides assistance dogs free of charge to adults, children, and veterans with disabilities – of which has become Dean’s favorite charity for giving his time and resources. Dogs have impacted Dean both on a personal and professional level, and you can really hear it in his voice. - SOCIAL MEDIA - Website - https://www.dogsavethepeople.com - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople/ - Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavetheppl - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople - FEATURED LINKS - Dean’s new book DEVOTED on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Devoted-Dean-Koontz/dp/1542019508 - Dean’s new book ELSEWHERE on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Elsewhere-Dean-Koontz/dp/1542019850 - Dean’s upcoming book THE OTHER EMILY on Amazon (March 2021) - https://www.amazon.com/Other-Emily-Dean-Koontz/dp/1542019958 - Dean Koontz website - https://www.deankoontz.com - Dean Koontz on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/deankoontzofficial - Dean Koontz on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/deankoontzofficial - Dean Koontz on Twitter - https://twitter.com/deankoontz - Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) website - https://www.cci.org - Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ccicanine - Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/caninecompanions - Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) on Twitter - https://twitter.com/ccicanine - A Big Little Life memoir on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Big-Little-Life-Memoir-Joyful-ebook/dp/B004VNZHDC - Trixie’s books - https://www.deankoontz.com/trixie-booklist/

Dean Leslie is a South African filmmaker who is the founder of Wandering Fever, a company born out of a love for the wild and the ability to tell stories through film. Dean is responsible for most of Salomon TV’s summer films and has been for the last seven years. He has played a pivotal role in how trail and ultra running is documented around the world.Dean's work has taken him to every continent, chasing down the world’s foremost endurance athletes and documenting the ways in which we interact with some of the world’s most stunning landscapes. Over the past decade he has spent most of his time on the road, a topic we discuss extensively. With Dean's belief that 'passion & balance are mutually incompatible'. We discuss the other spheres of his life which were neglected during his filmmaking career, and how he now has a consciousness in what it takes to pursue a passion. What I admire about Dean's work is that it explores the human struggle in endurance (both the professional and personal ones) with compassion not drama. His films show a curiosity and engagement with locals and the nature, without blindly exoticizing foreign places and peoples. This conversation explores the trajectory of Deans career (from animation to photography to film) and his belief that if you say YES to something you need to be 100% in, regardless of the financial reward. We also discuss:the filmmakers voice in a storyHis relationship with childhood friend Ryan SandesThe relationship and trust he fosters with his subjectsEarly challenge in making running look 'cool', yet its similarity to surfing with expansive landscapes and the solitude figureMeeting fascinating people from Scott Jurek, Tony Krupicka, Caballo BlancoThe early grind of reporting and documenting racesThe importance of looking for niche pockets - where he moved away from documenting races/competition to focus on the human storyHis relationship and autonomy with Salomon TVThe difference between a documentary and an advert.... the truth! The stress and depression that emerged through the Great Himalayan Project, and how he got out of itThe cathartic process of editing.Life as a DadThis is a ripper, you can find Deanhttp://wanderingfever.com/socials @thewanderingfeverVimeo - https://vimeo.com/wanderingfever

Last year, I attended The Wizard Academy’s Reputation Tool Chest workshop taught by award-winning business journalist, Dean Rotbart. Dean is the host of Monday Morning Radio, a popular business-to-business podcast that in 2016 alone attracted more than a quarter-million listeners. With Dean’s help, I launched RANCHCAST with LEM LEWIS earlier this year, and I’m pleased that Dean continues to work with me to build our RANCHCAST audience and ensure the quality of our episodes. This week Dean and I share hosting duties – combining our two audiences for a very special interview. Our guest is Michele Payn, a nationally recognized influencer in the large, growing, and very successful farm-to-table movement. Michele is CEO of Cause Matters Corp., a consulting firm that advises companies and individuals on how to influence public discourse surrounding agriculture, health, and nutrition topics. This week Michele celebrates the official publication of her newest book: “Farm Truths – From Farm to Table.” While my expertise is in ranching, farming, and rural real estate, Dean is an expert on small business, reputation management, and effective communication. Together we explore with Michele both the business and the nutrition aspects of ranching and farming, and debunk some of the most common food myths. Photo: Michele Payne, Cause Matters Corp. With Dean out spying on other podcasts this week, Eion and Bob discuss the weekend's news. Why does Alfie Mawson have a sore knee? Why is Andy Carroll linked with Spurs? Who the f**k is Martin from Wakefield? All that and a fun Sporcle quiz about Juventus...
With Dean doing one of those 'cultural excursions', it's Eion and Bob for the show this week. They talk Arsenal being dull now, Eion thinking Fulham are still crap and some other relevant football things. Hey, we're almost on time...
With Dean away, Eion and Bob draft in a man who spent the summer in his car. Yes, it's the 'star' of World Cup In A Car, Andrew Flint and because Andrew is based in Russia then every basic Russian joke is made. The guys discuss Cameroonian volleyball, daytime television, Theresa May, questionable Spanish morality, Neil Warnock's saggy face and Andrew's love for early 90s video game Super Soccer. Plus, Bob is bullied by Google Translates robot lady.
With Dean and Jade travelling to the Great White North, thoughts turn to a film that could pontentially describe them on their trip: Snowpiercer. Everyone loves firing those little foamy darts at their friends and coworkers. For our comics-obsessed podcasters, the toys’ hilariously overblown names are simply asking to be Bitten by a Radioactive Podcast. With Dean’s list of 175 of them, though, how can they pick just one...? Do YOU want to be our next hero? Review us on iTunes and we'll use your name as part of our next prompt! Dean Maden is one of life’s nice guys. With Dean’s large and impressive physique comes and even bigger heart. Dean a family man and owner of his own Fitness Facility in Loughborough called the Functional Fitness Centre. It’s here that he regularly transforms people as much mentally as he does physically. Listening to Dean speak about Health & Fitness his passion for both his own achievements as well as his clients results shines through. Not only does Dean own and run a successful private gym but he is also in the middle of competing in Strongman Competitions with the aim of getting to The World’s Strongest Man. What makes this feat so impressive is that when he was younger he suffered a debilitating injury that the doctors said he would never come back from. They told him he wouldn’t be able to squat ever again. Dean obviously ignored this “advice” and had his own ideas on whether this would be the end of the line for him. Needless to say he beat the odds and he not only is squatting again but he is doing so with weight that makes people stand in shock. In the interview we cover: Dean’s Journey Into The Fitness World How The Army Changed Him Physically How Dean Came Back From Serious Injury How Laziness Got Him Into Powerlifting Why Eating Clean Gets Him Funny Looks Why Women Should Be Lifting Weights How Eating More Food Gets His Clients To Lose Fat & Much More It’s important to me to have guest on who know their stuff and can share their knowledge with you. However, more important than that is getting guests on who can share their experiences with you. Listening to people that have broken through barriers and beat the odds is both inspirational and motivating and lets us know that statistics mean nothing to the individual and that you are the true leader on your journey. That’s exactly what Dean has reminded us today. You can find Dean here: https://www.facebook.com/funcfitcentre/ Enjoy the show and as always don’t forget to share it with your friends and family, as well as writing a review on iTunes. To Your Health & Happiness Ryan
