I worry about what's ahead, but I have a shepherd who prepares a table before me, so I wait, trust and see. A friend recently sent a job offering to me. It was to come to a town called Echuca in Victoria Australia and be a snake catcher. Yes, you read it right. Snake catcher. My friend works in a local school as a caretaker and part of his job is to make sure the school grounds and buildings are safe for the children. So he regularly is on the lookout for snakes. He clears away areas that snakes might want to live in. Nets and fences are installed to stop snakes from entering the school grounds. He prepares a safe place for little children. I like this illustration. It's a picture of providential care. Have you ever had someone prepare somewhere safe for you? Say you are going to visit Aunt Mildred and you're going to stay the night. She will most likely prepare in advance. She may make the bed, prepare some food, and get rid of any snakes! (especially if you live in Australia) When you arrive, you are welcomed into what they have prepared. You may feel a little embarrassed by the fuss they have put into this welcome. But you feel cared for, loved, and welcomed.

As a sports dietician, I'm always thrilled to witness the remarkable transformations of athletes who discover the true potential of tailored nutrition. Today, I'm excited to share the incredible journey of Troy Bauerle, a triathlete from Echuca, Victoria, who improved his performance (practically) overnight by overhauling his nutrition. He's fresh off a fantastic race performance at the Long Course Worlds in Townsville. Despite a major injury that prevented proper run training, Troy still completed the course in under six and a half hours. He's an absolute weapon! Troy admits he was clueless about nutrition when he first started. He had no idea about the importance of carbohydrates or proteins or how essential it was to plan his meals around his training. Like many athletes, he thought sheer willpower and effort were enough for peak performance. However, this couldn't have been further from the truth. Troy's major turning point was when he stumbled upon one of my podcasts. Realising the gaps in his knowledge, Troy took the plunge and decided to educate himself through the TNA program. He hasn't been with us long but he's already seeing big results from the changes he's making. The first steps Troy took involved understanding when and what to eat. Initially, he was clueless about labels on food packaging. Now, he's far more confident, knowing exactly what his body needs, especially post-training. He no longer wastes hours of training due to improper nutritional recovery. Organisation was Troy's biggest hurdle, given his busy schedule. Now, with a bit of planning, he prepares for his big training days in advance. This has resulted in less wasted time and a focused approach to his diet, making every meal purposeful. One of the most noticeable improvements for Troy has been his energy levels. He used to think it was normal to be utterly exhausted after long training sessions, but proper nutrition has shown him how different things can be. Instead of collapsing on the couch after his workouts, he's experiencing a “snowball effect” where improved nutrition leads to better training sessions, which in turn results in less fatigue and better overall performance. Carbohydrate Loading: A Turning Point Before the Long Course Worlds, I helped Troy with his carbohydrate loading plan. It was gratifying to see how this preparation translated to his race performance. Typically, carbohydrate loading isn't covered until phase two of our programme, but I provided Troy with tailored advice for his immediate needs. The impact was astounding. During his practice runs and the actual event, he felt more energised, performed significantly better, and avoided the feeling of death he'd come to think was normal Troy is now not only performing better but also feeling better. He's found a way to balance his demanding job as a plumber with his intense training schedule, all thanks to better nutritional planning. Looking ahead, he's planning to race in the Western Sydney 70.3 Triathlon and aiming for the Olympic distance Worlds in Wollongong next year. Longer-term, he has his sights set on completing an Ironman by his 50th birthday. I've loved working with Troy and seeing him come so far in such a short time. For those of you on the fence about investing time in nutrition education, take Troy's experience to heart. Proper nutrition can elevate your performance, prolong your career in the sport, and most importantly, enhance your quality of life. Have you ever heard, “If you want a problem solved, you just need to give it to two woman on an afternoon fitness walk”? That's definitely been the story for Katie Puttock and I on more than one occasion over the 12 years that I've known her. I first met her when I was introduced to my now-husband's friendship group at the pub. I'd been given the heads up that as the girl best friend, she was the one I needed the nod from. Needless to say I bought a new dress and treated it the same as meeting Lach's parents. Since then, Katie and I have grown old together. But who am I kidding. We were swapping recipes and spot remover hacks in our early 30s, and as we inch towards the big 4-0, there's nothing I love more than comparing notes on the latest slug or bug to make its way into our neighbouring gardens, or hearing about the latest travel deal she's found and how easy it was to put into the family budget spreadsheet. She's made me a better Mum, a better communicator, and a better person. Green thumb aside, Katie is an experienced communicator who's worked on social policy issues at the Federal level. Prior to joining First Nations founded and led media and events agency 33 Creative, Katie held senior management and media adviser roles with Federal Government Ministers in Indigenous Affairs. She's an experienced campaign manager and delivers copywriting, strategy, editing, behaviour change and digital engagement expertise. More recently she's completed a graduate certificate at UNSW's Centre for Social Impact. I was particularly interested to talk to Katie about the role of strategy in creativity, and if it helped enhance the solution or stifle it. I also wanted to ask about her experience in First Nations media and comms, and the behind the scenes work that she and colleagues put in to make sure the message was getting to the right people in the right way. There's no doubt that day one of winning $100M in the lotto would involve a toast of Echuca white chocolate liquor at either of our houses, but I started off by asking her what she'd do with her time on day two. Please enjoy my chat with Katie Puttock. --- Connect with us: www.oathandstone.com.au www.instagram.com/trishjohnstone

Farmers in Victoria's West are pushing back against state government plans for renewable energy projects to be build on their land. VicGrid wants to build transmission lines, wind turbines and solar farms around the Murray River, Horsham, Echuca and into the south-west. The proposal is open for feedback until the 25th of August. Rural Reporter Emily Minney has spoken with Victorian Farmers Federation Climate Change committee Chairwoman Katherine Meyers, who says the government ignored their requests to hold off on the plan. Rachael McGrath simply loves Jersey cows, and has a real passion for improving the genetics so they're not only great in the paddock but also perform well in the show ring. In this chat she shares how she found her love for the farm, how she is working towards the genetic improvements of the herd and how she's developed a passion for showing cows. Rachael was also recently awarded the Young Leader Award at the WestVic Dairy Awards and she shares what she is doing within the industry. I'm always amazed at the sentiment still shown for Holden despite the GeneralMotors brand ceasing local manufacture in 2017 and leaving altogether in 2020.Its easy to forget the Holden brand in 1958 held 50.3 percent of our total carmarket. So, it was sad news for Holden fans when the Echuca National HoldenMotor Museum closed its doors for the final time on April 15. Ryan Sage is originally from Echuca in Victoria. He grew up in the border town with a pretty normal country life of going to school, fishing and enjoying a quite life on the Murray River. After finishing school he became a jackaroo working on a large cattle station in New South Wales before he found himself on another cattle station in the Territory. A stint in the defence force and a bit of soul searching followed and then Ryan found himself back in the Territory where he has basically been ever since. Ryan is a park ranger for his day job and he also owns 2nd hand record shop in Darwin city as a side hustle. And there's also a bit of frustrated DJ waiting to get out somewhere inside of him.
