Les prix du gaz continuent de grimper et sont désormais à leur niveau le plus élevé depuis le début de la crise du détroit d'Ormuz, axe stratégique par lequel transitait 20% des exportations mondiales de gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) avant le début du conflit au Moyen-Orient. Les prix de référence en Europe – le TTF néerlandais – sont deux fois plus élevés que l'année dernière. Les prix du gaz ont connu une augmentation de 35% depuis début août et se situent à plus de 70 €/MWh, comme le pointe l'analyste Gaz de l'Agence internationale de l'Énergie Greg Molnar. Il y a, comme souvent, plusieurs raisons à cette hausse. La première est la tension autour du détroit d'Ormuz, zone encore plus stratégique pour le gaz que pour le pétrole. L'offre mondiale de GNL a chuté de plus de 6% sur un an en raison du blocage des flux de gaz naturel liquéfié du Qatar et des Émirats arabes unis. Preuve de ces difficultés, Qatar Energy a informé, selon Reuters, plusieurs de ses acheteurs en Asie et en Italie qu'il prolongeait la force majeure plusieurs semaines, ce qui veut dire qu'indépendamment de sa volonté, l'entreprise ne pourra pas honorer ses contrats en temps et en heure. Résultat : les flux de gaz du Moyen-Orient vers l'Europe sont à leur plus bas depuis 2019, pointe le cabinet de conseil en énergie Omnegy. Stockage européen à la peine Ces prix européens qui grimpent reflètent aussi le manque de stock en Europe. Les stocks physiques sont remplis à un peu plus de 65% au niveau européen ; c'est moins que l'année dernière à la même époque et moins que la moyenne de ces cinq dernières années. L'association allemande des entreprises de transport de gaz (FNB Gas) a d'ailleurs estimé courant août que l'objectif légal d'avoir des stocks remplis à plus de 70% au 1er novembre 2026 était pratiquement impossible à atteindre. L'Allemagne n'est aujourd'hui qu'à 53% de stockage.  Les stocks ont aussi pâti de la canicule. La chaleur et la sècheresse ont entraîné des arrêts de la production nucléaire et hydroélectrique, ce qui a profité à l'électricité produite au gaz : en juillet et août, les européens ont consommé 15% de gaz en plus que les années précédentes. Pour compliquer la situation, les Européens doivent aussi faire face à une baisse de la production de Norvège : un des principaux champs du pays tournera au ralenti jusqu'en février 2027, pour des raisons techniques. Concurrence grandissante à l'approche de l'hiver Cette hausse actuelle des prix européens est appelée à continuer, à l'approche de la période de chauffage. Une bonne nouvelle pour les Européens cependant : l'écart de prix entre l'Europe (TTF) et l'Asie (JKM) s'est resserré. Cela devient moins avantageux pour un trader de vendre aux acheteurs asiatiques. Au mois d'août, six cargaisons de GNL ont été redirigées vers l'Europe, selon le cabinet Omnegy. Plus on approche de l'hiver, plus la demande devrait cependant augmenter. Les experts en énergie s'accordent à dire que la concurrence pour les cargaisons de GNL qui n'ont pas été pré-vendues et qui sont encore disponibles sur le marché devrait s'intensifier dans les prochaines semaines. Hassan Yatim, analyste prix pour Capitole Énergie-Groupe EPSA, résume : « L'Europe entre dans l'automne avec trois vulnérabilités qui se cumulent : un retard de remplissage important, une prime de risque géopolitique déjà intégrée dans les prix et une dépendance au GNL qui pourrait être remise sous pression par le retour des acheteurs asiatiques. »

Donalds Tramps paziņojis, ka panākta vienošanās par teroristu grupējuma "Hamās" pilnīgu atbruņošanos Gazas joslā. Izraēla bažīga par šādu paziņojumu. Aktualitātes analizē laikraksta "Diena" komentētājs Andis Sedlenieks un Latvijas Radio Ziņu dienesta vadītājs, Latvijas Ārpolitikas institūta pētnieks Uģis Lībietis. Pakistānas Kašmiras asiņainā vasara Drīz būs apritējuši divi mēneši, kopš Pakistānas kontrolēto Kašmiras daļu satricina masu protesti ar vardarbīgām sadursmēm starp protestētājiem un valdības spēkiem. Pašreizējo notikumu vēsturiskās saknes sniedzas 80 gadus senā pagātnē, kad beidza pastāvēt Britu Indijas koloniālie valdījumi, un to vietā radās divas neatkarīgas valstis – Indija un Pakistāna. To robežas noteica pirmām kārtām reliģiskā piederība, Indijā dominējot hinduismam, savukārt Pakistānā – islāmam. Autonomā Džammu un Kašmiras radžas valsts toreizējās Britu Indijas ziemeļos bija reliģiski jaukta teritorija, kuras valdītājs mēģināja izveidot neatkarīgu valsti. Šis projekts neguva vietējo iedzīvotāju atsaucību, sākās sacelšanās, notika Pakistānas un Indijas spēku intervence, un šīs karadarbības rezultātā Džammu un Kašmira izrādījās sadalīta starp Indiju un Pakistānu. ANO rezolūcija nosaka, ka būtu rīkojams referendums par teritorijas nākotni, taču līdz šim tāds nav sarīkots un diezin vai arī notiks. Pašreizējie nemieri aptver daļu no Pakistānas kontrolētās Kašmiras – tā dēvēto Brīvo Džammu un Kašmiru, autonomu teritoriju kādreizējās radžas valsts dienvidrietumos; faktiski – šauru robežjoslu starp Indijas kontrolēto daļu un Pakistānas pamatteritoriju. Jau praktiski kopš šīs administratīvās vienības izveides pagājušā gadsimta vidū teritorijas iedzīvotāji nav bijuši mierā ar to, kā šo tālo valsts nomali pārvalda centrālā vara Islamabadā. Pašreizējo domstarpību galvenais cēlonis ir autonomijas likumdevēju sapulces ievēlēšanas kārtība. Divpadsmit no 45 deputātu vietām tajā rezervētas deputātiem, kurus ievēl nevis vietējie iedzīvotāji, bet Džammu un Kašmiras bēgļi, kuri pametuši Indijas kontrolēto daļu un apmetušies dažādās Pakistānas vietās. 2023. gadā dibinātā sabiedriskā kustība Džammu-Kašmiras Apvienotā sabiedriskā rīcības komiteja pieprasa šo sistēmu likvidēt kā manipulatīvu un vēlētāju gribu kropļojošu. 5. jūnijā komiteja tika pasludināta par teroristisku organizāciju, kuru atbalsta Indija, un aizliegta. Vairāki tās līderi arestēti, par citu uzrādīšanu izsludināta paliela naudas prēmija. Pāris dienas vēlāk tiesa atzina bēgļu kvotu sistēmu par atbilstošu Pakistānas konstitūcijai un, attiecīgi, saglabājamu jūlijā paredzētajās vēlēšanās. Autonomijā sākās masu protesti, kas drīz vien pārauga sadursmēs ar policijas spēkiem, kuru rezultātā, kā lēš, šobrīd dzīvību zaudējuši vismaz četrdesmit cilvēki. Notiek streiki, tiek bloķētas transporta maģistrāles, kas ietekmē teritorijas ekonomisko un sociālo dzīvi. Vēlēšanas tika sadalītas trīs posmos, no kuriem divi – 27. jūlijā un 2. augustā – jau notikuši, trešais plānots 10. augustā. Sekojot sabiedriskās rīcības komitejas aicinājumam, daudzi vēlētāji boikotē vēlēšanas, attiecīgi ievēlēto mandātu leģitimitāte var būt apšaubāma. Migranti atkal nāk! Jūlija beigās Spānijai piederošajā Ziemeļāfrikas pilsētā Seutā izveidojās viena no lielākajām migrācijas krīzēm Eiropas Savienībā pēdējo gadu laikā. Dažās dienās robežu no Marokas šķērsoja desmitiem tūkstošu cilvēku, lielākoties jauni marokāņi, kuri centās nokļūt Eiropas Savienības teritorijā. Migranti robežu šķērsoja pa sauszemi, pārvarot robežas infrastruktūru, vai peldus gar piekrastes aizsargbarjerām. Spānijas iestādes ziņo, ka šobrīd lielākā daļa šo cilvēku jau ir atgriezušies Marokā, tomēr vairāki tūkstoši joprojām uzturas Seutā, radot nopietnu slogu pilsētas uzņemšanas un sociālās palīdzības sistēmām. Seuta kopā ar Melilju ir Spānijai piederošās teritorijas Ziemeļāfrikā, kur atrodas vienīgā Eiropas Savienības sauszemes robeža ar kādu Āfrikas valsti. Spānija ieguva šos atbalsta punktus otrpus Vidusjūrai 16. gadsimtā, taču Maroka, kopš no Francijas un Spānijas dubutprotektorāta 1956. gadā kļuva par neatkarīgu valsti, uzskata to par savu suverēno teritoriju. Nu jau gadiem Seuta un Melilja ir viens no galvenajiem nelegālās migrācijas maršrutiem uz Eiropu. Pēdējā masveida robežas šķērsošana notika 2021. gada maijā, pēc tam, kad Maroka atviegloja robežkontroli. Šī Marokas puses rīcība sakrita ar diplomātisko strīdu ar Spāniju, kad pēdējā atļāva iebraukt Rietumsahāras neatkarības kustības „Polisario Fronte” līderim Brahimam Gali, lai ārstētos pret Covid-19. Rietumsahāra arī ir bijušais Spānijas koloniālais valdījums, kura lielāko daļu šobrīd kontrolē Maroka, taču teritorijas starptautiskais statuss paliek nedefinēts. Šoreiz masveida cilvēku kustību, pēc Spānijas amatpersonu un mediju vēstītā, veicināja sociālajos tīklos izplatīta maldinoša informācija, ka robeža ir atvērta un migrantiem būs viegli iegūt uzturēšanās tiesības Spānijā. Varasiestādes uzsver, ka šīs ziņas neatbilst patiesībai. Izskanējuši pieņēmumi, ka robežkontroles vājināšanos no Marokas puses arī šoreiz ietekmējis saspīlējums abu valstu attiecībās. Krīzes laikā vairāki cilvēki gājuši bojā, cenšoties sasniegt Seutu pa jūru vai šķērsojot robežbarjeras. Spānija pastiprinājusi drošības pasākumus un sadarbojas ar Maroku, lai novērstu jaunus masveida robežas šķērsošanas mēģinājumus. Vienlaikus Eiropas Savienībā atsākusies diskusija par ārējo robežu aizsardzību, migrācijas politiku un dalībvalstu savstarpējo solidaritāti. Izskanējuši pat aicinājumi ierobežot Šengenas vīzu sistēmas darbību Spānijā. Paredzams, ka tuvākajā laikā jautājums par situāciju Seutā būs viens no svarīgākajiem migrācijas politikas tematiem gan Spānijā, gan citur Eiropas Savienībā. Tramps turpina nest mieru pasaulei Jūlija beigās ASV prezidents Donalds Tramps paziņoja, ka panākta principiāla vienošanās par palestīniešu grupējuma „Hamās” pakāpenisku atbruņošanos Gazas joslā.
