A conversation about how he has been coping with 2020, grasping onto positivity, his new project You Suffer, when will touring come back, his hangover cure, a Miller Lite Sponsorship, his favorite Rom-Com, his top 2020 album & why he keeps touring. Throughout this interview Gerrity was drinking Hardywood's "Singel". This Belgian-Style Blonde Ale radiated tropical fruits & had a spicy hop vibe. It clocked in with a 6.2% ABV. He also enjoyed Adroit Theory Brewing x Pig Destroyer's "Octagonal Stairway" which was brewed to coincide with their new EP: The Octagonal Stairway. This Imperial Milk Stout was rich, creamy & decadent. It clocked in with a 10.5% ABV. & Matt was drinking Kahnawake Brewing Co.'s "Crisptopsy - Pilsner Supremacy" the New World Pilsner. This Pilsner brewed with Bohemian Yeast was Double Dry Hopped with Mosaic hops & was brewed in honor of Cryptopsy. It had mad melon vibes & finished with a crisp cereal finish. I am very stoked to announce that I have enlisted the help of my friend & ultimate Vox&Hops' Head Jerry Monk to create monthly playlists where he features the most brutal new releases. I have aptly named Jerry the Metal Architect because he consistently sends me albums that he thinks I would enjoy. It was an easy choice to bring him on as the Curator of these monthly playlists. When we were offered a chance to speak with black/thrashers Pulchra Morte, we jumped at it. We were expecting we'd be hearing from vox Adam Clemens. But we were pleasantly surprised when axeman Jarrett Pritchard called. Mr. Pritchard not only has extensive experience in the underground, but he's also a producer extraordinaire. He's turned the knobs for some of our fave artists. We discussed the new record "Ex Rosa Ceremonia" as well as his early demo days and his work behind the board. In all, a most fascinating chat. In our "News, Views, and Tunes', we share some friend's choices for prez and share a heartwarming story courtesy of Hirax' Katon DePena. Musically, we crank the new PM + some Wolvhammer, Brutality, Master, Mercyless, Jesus Piece, Joel Grind, Whipstriker, Eulogy, Hanging Fortress and introduce L.A.'s Make Them Die Slowly in our "Indie Spotlight". Album Review mal anders. A conversation about touring in a Bandwagon, how he fell into the world of addiction at a young age whilst dealing with anxiety & depression, how he coped & managed his time in school, that time he detoxed at his Girlfriend's house during Christmas, his reverence for amphetamines, the physical toll on his body, how he got kicked out of the Navy & ended up working in a porn shop, the darkest moment of his life & how he manages his addictions today. The beer that we drank during this episode was the wonderful The Love Below by Funky Buddha. It was a delicious Imperial Stout aged in Cabernet Sauvignon & Bourbon Barrels with cherries, chocolate & natural flavors added. A conversation about his insanely busy life on the road. Where he explains what it is like being on tour for more than 10 months a year, how he got into this crazy business, some of his worst tour experiences, his love of the Transportation Security Administration, his love and devotion to his home state of Florida, his displeasure of over hopped IPAs and what it is like to rush to the rescue when one of the bands on your tour package has crashed just a few miles ahead of you. The beer that we drank during this episode was Velkopopovický Kozel's Cerny (Dark) albeit not a craft beer but it was delicious nonetheless. I chose it because we conducted the interview live backstage in Ljubljana Slovenia on the Hell Over Europe II tour back in November and it was the best non-hoppy beer I could find for Mr. Gerrity. Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History. My guest this week on the podcast was a long time coming, Jeff Wilson formerly of Wolvhammer, Nachmystium, Abigail Williams, Doomsday and about a ton of other recording projects. Earlier in the year Jeff was due to be on the podcast when his band Wolvhammer were about to release their album "The Monuments of Ash & Bone" but due to scheduling it never came to fruition....until now!! Jeff came on the podcast to talk about leaving Wolvhammer and now refocusing on a past project he did called Chrome Waves (that also included past guest Stavros Giannapolous!). Jeff holds very little back in this candid and no bullshit discussion about the bands he was in and the realistic nature of touring and writing records. Its a solid episode to end the month on and really shows what a lot of musicians deal with on the more personal side of things when not playing and writing songs. Jeff is a monster though when it comes to music and hes always writing new material. His current project Chrome Waves can be found on Facebook and Bandcamp
Me and my regular co-host Cody get together this week to discuss a bunch of things. Periphery leaving Sumerian Records, new material from Deafheaven, Hoth, Bleeding Through, Wolvhammer and Homewrecker. Then we quickly let go of that boring "metal" stuff and start talking about horror movies. Some of our favorites, some interesting modern classics, some not so great ones, and the whole gamut. We just love horror. Finally, a few other cool things like Westworld and God of War. Enjoy!
ColeMAN InGRIM talking about the Kylesa show last month, Diecember fest, Wolvhammer's stop in Van; new Canadian metal from Striker, Gevurah etc. as well as some highlights from several year-end-best-of-list's. It's the time of the season!
