I had so much fun interviewing historical fiction author Susan Furber. Susan Furber is an editor, author, and self-publishing expert. Historical fiction author and editor Susan Furber published her debut novel Essense of an Hour in 2021 and its sequel, We Were Very Merry, in May 2023. While discussing historical fiction, we chatted about the importance of setting, how to research a historical piece, and her experience publishing her book. She was able to give a unique perspective on the writing and publishing process due to her experience as an editor, as well as her work with others as a self-publishing expert, and having traditionally published her own books. BAs a self-publishing expert she helps people published through KDP and Ingram Sparks. The Timberwolves won two out of three games, but the continued lack of urgency vs teams like the Houston Rockets has baffled fans world wide. Anthony Edwards was nothing short of amazing this past week, literally doing it all, with 44 points in Target Center against, yes the Houston Rockets, at least he has shown some urgency. facebook.com/timberwolvesexplosion @TwolvesEx @wolvesexplosion paladinolive@yahoo.com Gambling Problem? Undoubtedly, one of the keys to a life of meaning and rich fulfillment is to have a clear sense of purpose and a strong sense of who you are. But what's the difference between the people struggling with toxic stress and feelings of anxiety and those living a rich life filled with purpose and a clear sense of vitality? In my experience: flow. So what does it mean to live your life ‘in flow'? How do you create more flow in your life? And how is it the key to unlocking your inner happiness, well-being, and deep fulfillment? In this episode, I discuss the lessons we can learn about the concept of flow from the Russian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. I discuss what ‘being in flow' truly means and how it impacts your emotional health, well-being, and feelings of joy and fulfillment. I discuss how Mihaly explored the concept of flow by studying artists' work habits and practices and how we can create more flow in our lives by doing more of the things we enjoy. I share how being in a state of flow impacts your creativity, playfulness, and authenticity. I also share tips on how you can begin finding new ways to create more flow so you can live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life. “The essence of flow is being in the moment, the present moment, where action and awareness are merged.” – Dr. Mark Rowe This week on In the Doctor's Chair: Understanding what ‘flow' and ‘being in flow' means How Mihaly explored the concept of flow by studying artists' work practices How being ‘in flow' impacts your inner happiness, fulfillment, and wellbeing How ‘flow' is a universal psychological experience Achieving peak experience through peak performance How performing at or near your best can impact your overall sense of wellbeing How being in a state of flow impacts your creativity, playfulness, and authenticity Everyday strategies to create more flow Finding the optimal balance between your perceived abilities and a perceived challenge How creating flow experiences helps you develop realistic optimism Why flow creates even more flow Resources Mentioned: Book: Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi In the Doctor's Chair Thanks for listening to In the Doctor's Chair, the show where you'll hear conversations that share life lessons, health habits, and leadership practices that focus on positive psychology, lifestyle medicine, and ways for you to live with more vitality. My guest is Dr. David Bradshaw, a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kentucky. Today we had a conversation about his book "Aristotle East and West" This book traces the development of conceptions of God and the relationship between God's being and activity from Aristotle, through the pagan Neoplatonists, to thinkers such as Augustine, Boethius and Aquinas (in the West) and Dionysius the Areopagite, Maximus the Confessor and Gregory Palamas (in the East). The result is a comparative history of philosophical thought in the two halves of Christendom, providing a philosophical backdrop to the schism between the Eastern and Western Churches. 00:00:00 Intro 00:01:39 Becoming and Orthodox Christian Professor 00:07:27 What is The "Essence & Energies Distinction"? 00:15:02 What is "Divine Simplicity"? 00:26:27 What did Aristotle mean with "The Prime Mover"? 00:33:30 Difference "Logos" & "logoi" 00:41:12 Uncreated Energies & Creatures 00:47:28 Exodus 33:23 & The Glory of God 00:53:30 Apophaticism & Empiricism 00:55:38 Is the Thomistic "Actus Purus" faulty? 01:01:09 Pre-Nicaeane views on Gods Energies 01:08:06 Importance of Etymology --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fullarmourapologetics/message

Maybe this sounds weird, but we’re starting this week with a Greg Holland appreciation. We’ve seen this guy for nearly a decade now — same as always on the mound, but not much different off. The questions are an eclectic mix of Jackie Robinson, creative ways to use the DH, and a nice listener named Mark sending me down a rabbit hole I did not know existed. The bonus segment is with Mike Matheny, with clips that show who he is (and how he’s different than the manager he replaced) and where the organization is. He also helps me articulate a pet peeve. Please listen to new episodes every Friday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. New to the show? A chat with Mike, Matt, and Tommy of the band Slumlord Radio with fans Cindi and Darrell. This conversation was infectious and fun. We started off sharing our astrological signs. Then moved into the backstory of Slumlord Radio and the perils of moving from Sweden as impressionable youths with dreams of stardom. We marveled at how well Matt, Tommy and Mike have no hint of their former Norwegian accents.Fans Cindi and Darrell came to become Slumlord Radio fans through their mutual association in music. Darrell is the vocalist/guitarist for a Grand Rapids based rock band called Paper Planecrash. They are currently working on a recording with White Elephant Records (the same label as Slumlord Radio). Cindi is the vocalist in Cindi Lou and The Red Hot Royals. They are a fantastic rockabilly band that I had the great fortune to see at the Michigan Brewers Guild Detroit Fall beer fest.Given that playing shows is nearly impossible, the guys in Slumlord Radio have been putting their years of high school shop class to great use by building a hot air balloon. The balloon known as the Spirit of Slumlord will hopefully launch after the new year. Cindi is currently working on creating a drop zone where the band will then pick up supplies for their new perfume known as Essense of Slumlord. This masculine scent features esters of WD-40 with a sweet hint of bacon and a splash of freshly mown grass.Slumlord Radio is working on new music at White Elephant Records. The sonic evolution is underway with the accent on heaviness. While we chatted about new music, we delved into the band’s influences such as Sabbath, Zeppelin, and the MC5. Little did we know, there is an unspoken love for the old school country of George Jones. A true master of his craft. The sensitive side of Slumlord Radio comes through in their secret affair with the music of Morrissey. One aspect of the band’s development during the pandemic is Tommy’s leaping ability. The entire band agrees that as Tommy ages, he is gaining more air. He should soon surpass the noted high jumper Pete Townshend. One more reason we are all looking forward to the end of the pandemic. We can then witness this feat in person. We chatted a bit about how strange it is to not be either attending or playing shows. The guys in Slumlord related that they have resorted to just loading up the van and driving around the neighborhood until 3am. Just to ensure that no rust gathers on the razoredge of their load in and load out prowess. Our conversation found its way back to the musical influences of fans Cindi and Darrell. Cindy cut her teeth on AC/DC before finding the jazz and blues. This eventually led to her flaunting the natural aging progression by moving from singing jazz and blues into rockabilly. We are certain that statues in several states were violated by this move.Darrell being a child of the 80’s, discovered rock music in the 90’s The sound track of his youth included classics from Bush and Nirvana. As time moves on, Darrell has been digging into the Detroit sounds of the Dirty Americans. The stories are endless and hilarious on this episode of Fans With Bands with Slumlord Radio. We hope you enjoy it! Subscribe to Fans With Bands on your favorite podcast service such as Apple, Google, Spotify, iHeartRadio, or Stitcher. Be sure to rate the show and please send us feedback. We're sharing YOUR favorite episodes from the past two seasons, all August long in a #SummerReplay13 series.First up, is the conversation with Freda Muyambo, a food blogger and writer with expertise in African cuisine and a passion for sharing African culture through food. She often describes herself as having a pan-African palate, having been born and raised in Botswana to Ghanaian parents and traveling extensively across Africa. She has explored culinary cultures across the broad and bold topic of African cuisine and will often experiment with using ingredients in a new way.Her position as one of Africa's most innovative food experts was cemented in December 2015 during a live BBC interview where she presented yam pasta, a novel pasta dough recipe she had invented just the night before, using West African yams. Up until this point, there was no other record of yam pasta having been made. She has also had features on CNN and the African Economist as one of Africa’s top food bloggers. She has written for various online and offline publications including IAC Media (About.com/The Spruce Eats), The Guardian, Radiant Health Magazine and co-authored a spice book published by Penguin Random House group this coming October 2018. Her expertise is highly sought after, where she works with local and international brands developing recipes to help them reach new markets.Freda dropped SO many gems in this conversation that we made this a two-part episode situation. Do you have an item or two (or seven) in your closet that you’ve held on to for a long time and you’re not sure why? It doesn’t fit or it’s out of style but it holds some type of significant meaning to you… whether we realize it or not… a lot of our identity, personal history, and even sometimes our self-esteem can have a significant connection to what’s hanging in our closet… we hold onto things that maybe… just maybe we should let go of. 3:50 – The Essense 101 As a child, Essense wanted to rebel against being dressed in the same outfits as her sister. Once she found her first job in retail she took full advantage of her 30% employee discount and she began to cultivate her own style. In college, Essense started to define and explore her own style, but worried people would only know her for clothing. She wanted to be known for her personality as well. Today, Essense fully embraces her personal style as a way to show others who she is. While working as a paralegal, Essense’s style would attract attention from her coworkers who requested help with shopping on lunch breaks. Sometimes the best way to start is by jumping in the deep end: Essense changed her Instagram profile to say “Paralegal by day, personal stylist by night” before she ever had her first client. 9:32 – More Than Just Hangers and Shoeboxes Essense realized her skills could help others when her first closet organization client found healing in cleaning out a closet after a hot water heater disaster and a dramatic weight loss journey. So many of us look for control in the midst of loss and life-altering events. Often when we feel out of control, we spend our time and energy controlling our belongings or letting them control us. Closets are a metaphor for the things in our lives that we keep hidden. When we clean out our homes, we are forced to face the things we’ve been holding onto. Essense helps transform lives by cleaning up the literal and figurative mess in people’s lives and provides structure to help her clients overcome personal obstacles. 18:40 – God and The Door in the Dining Room Essense has a close relationship to her mother and believes there’s a very specific reason she didn’t leave home until she was 25. Through a shared dream, Essense finds confirmation of where her mom is now and where her mom will be eternally. (This part will give you chills – the good kind). 26:04 – Legacy Through Faith Essense’s mom left a beautiful legacy of faith, and Essense honors her mom’s legacy by giving glory back to God with every step of her career. After finding her mom’s old business cards, Essense carries on her mom’s boutique with D.E.F.Y. Fashion and a unique take on camo jackets. 29: 47- Winning the Super Bowl Without any connection to the NFL, Essense’s jackets show up at the Super Bowl two years in a row. You can attract the market you want with clientele who understand the value of what you have to offer. “They could wear anything, but they chose to honor my work at a legendary moment.” Our outer appearance can be a reflection of how we feel on the inside, and Essense gives glory to God by reminding others to celebrate what makes their story unique.

Freda Muyambo is a food blogger and writer with expertise in African cuisine and a passion for sharing African culture through food. She often describes herself as having a pan-African palate, having been born and raised in Botswana to Ghanaian parents and travelling extensively across Africa. She has explored culinary cultures across the broad and bold topic of African cuisine and will often experiment with using ingredients in a new way. Freda currently resides in Lagos, Nigeria, where she is acquiring primary knowledge in the use of local flavours, indigenous fruits and spices. One of her greatest accomplishments has been developing a creative recipe using a local Nigerian fruit, Agbalumo, the African Cherry; incorporating it into a dessert she has named “Agbalumo Blondie.” She has pitched it to supermarkets and successfully sold it as a new bakery item in Lagos, adding to the food value chain and culinary history of the country. Freda continues to explore how she can use indigenous produce to promote food security within Africa. Her position as one of Africa's most innovative food experts was cemented in December 2015 during a live BBC interview where she presented yam pasta, a novel pasta dough recipe she had invented just the night before, using West African yams. Her expertise is highly sought after, where she works with local and international brands developing recipes to help them reach new markets.Find My Burnt Orange on Facebook , Instagram and Twitter. Orion Talmay, coach and fellow podcaster, shows women how to walk into their own power and own their feminine essence. What I love about her is that she also talks about unveiling your inner superhero. Whether you are a Wonder Woman, a Supergirl, a Storm or some kind of new superhero, you can use Orion’s Method to become more powerful, more passionate and more of you. Orion and I had a great conversation about how we can all live our best lives. Even if you have no desire to be a superhero, Orion discusses ORION's Method which any woman can use to lead a life filled with passion, health, and your feminine essence. Having some fun this week with Marta Foos Mazoni of Marta on the Move Podcast and you will too! Wait until you hear the 'Happy Trails' this local Pittsburgh gal has been on! Marta thrives on solo adventures in pursuit of her truth and shares her love for exploring and then linking her cultural experiences back to Pittsburgh through her podcast Marta on the Move. She claims that she maintains her sense of self by keeping healthy boundaries, choosing to be with people who lift her up and uses Yoga as a centering practice while dipping into flotation tanks to stay grounded. And unlike most people, because Marta is unlike most people, she is not afraid of her fear, in fact fear is the driver that leads her passions! Our chat takes an interesting turn when she defines her sense of adventure through tomb excavation in Greece and spends her post honeymoon helping to rebuild a 10th century castle in the south of France. This is her way of giving back and connecting with people & cultures globally. She finds her podcast a suitable vehicle to share her experiences and sees it as an audible scrapbook of sorts. We can all take a page from Marta's book in the way she lives her life in pursuit of her desires and gives back in some extraordinary ways. She is a beautiful example of holding on to what is precious; and that is the unique expression of her soul! Take a listen here for some inspiration and a good time!
