Dec. 31, 1973, in the wilds of Australia, the legendary AC/DC played their very first gig. Effectively making 2024 their 50th (!!) anniversary. So obviously this is a big f'n deal. So we decided to give Angus and the Boys some time in our "Spotlight" episode. We go over some of our fave songs and albums, how we discovered the band and the (non) controversies. And of course the age old question - Bon vs. Brian? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we go over the recent discovery of a 235 yr old Mozart song. We tell a nazi punk to "Fvck Off!!" And we finally gave THAT Jethro Tull album a spin. Musically, we crank tunes from Hirax, Mortal Sin, Crystal Viper, Gruesome, Asexuals, Limp Wrist, ACXDC and the aforementioned Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (!!). Horns up!!
Not exactly May 19th , but close enough
Meet Captain Content in the pit this week for a hella good time! We're getting our aggression by revisiting the starting point of Kevin's music fandom. The thrash, crossover, and speed metal movement of the 80s spawned his love of all things rock n' punk n' metal. Once again, we will not be covering the Big 4 of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax; but if you love them, then you will love this bunch. What is it that we do here at InObscuria? We exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In this episode, we explore all things mosh-worthy! This is real metal people. All hail the speed and ferocity of Thrash! Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Heathen – “Pray For Death” from Breaking The Silence(1987)Xentrix – “The Human Condition” from For Whose Advantage? (1990)Hazzerd – “Sanctuary For The Mad” from Delirium (2020)Tankard – “Beermuda” from The Meaning Of Life (1990)King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – “Self-Immolate” from Infest The Rats' Nest (2019)Hirax – “Swords Of Steel” from The New Age Of Terror (2004)Sanctuary – “The Third War” from Refuge Denied (1987)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/
It's that time again. The nominees for this year's Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced. This list always to seem raise both the eyebrows and ire of music fans. Its an ongoing debate whether The Hall should still be monickered "Rock n Roll" because of the inclusion of other genres. But every list has enough meat on the bone to warrant discussion. We dissect the list and make our top picks. *Spoiler* Ozzy is our Man. D'uh!! In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss some Rush and Spider Punk! Musically, we crank some new + used from Hirax, the real Slaughter, Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome), Blade Runner, Night Fever, and we introduce Pessimystic in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!!

Cover songs can be rather divisive amongst Metal fans. Some see it as a loving tribute. Others see it as a complete waste of time and effort. Around the RAM offices, we love a good cover song. Particularly a blast from the past being paid homage being paid by a current hotshot. But which is preferred? The original...or the cover. So we figured we'd go over our own laundry list and Yay or Nay on which version. Think QR/Slade. WASP/Who. Napalm Death/DKs. Musically, we crank new and used from Hirax, the aforementioned Napalm Death, Striker, Display Of Decay, Tailgunner, Deathblow and we introduced Mexico's Phantom in our "Indie Spotlight". Katon W. De PenaHirax singer Katon W. De Pena was front-and-center for the birth and rise of California's legendary mid-‘80s thrash-metal scene. Today, at age 59, he's as metal as ever and joins us to discuss Hirax, his former band Phantasm (featuring original Metallica bassist Ron McGovney), his connection to Celtic Frost frontman Tom G. Warrior, and the times a young Hirax fan named Mike Patton used to show up early to meet the band (and later returned the favor).Created and Produced by Jared Tuten
We ended '22 with some absolutely gut wrenching news. We lost documentarian, journalist and all around great guy, Bob Nalbandian. Bob's credentials are vast. He's worked with renowned record labels and wrote for promininent magazines. Most importantly, he was a friend. RAM was on the ground floor in podcasting. As was his "Shockwaves" program. So of course we became fast friends. So this time 'round we forsake most of our segments and just talk Bob. We go over his "Inside Metal" doc series, his old school "Headbanger" 'zine and all our interactions with him. Musically, we have a Fistful of Bob approved Metal including Blind Illusion, Laaz Rockitt, Hirax, Abattoir, Savage Grace, Omen, Cloven Hoof, Witchfynde and Hell Witch. Rest In Power, Bob! Happy Halloween! The most wonderful time of the year is upon us! We've had another awesome October and it culminates now. The legendary Misfits are the quintessential Halloween band. And our Halloween weekend is being kicked off by catching a Misfits tribute act. Psycho 78 is a band of local "misfits" from a number of local punk bands. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss our own Misfits experiences and hit a local record con! More and more the connection between our beloved genre and the world of professional wrestling is getting stronger and stronger. Ring entrance music, gimmicks and, most importantly, a lot of wrestler's themselves are real life Metalheads. One of the original crossovers is Nasty Savage maiman "Nasty" Ronnie. In our youth, we started out as Nasty Savage fans. But then we really "marked" out when Mr. Ronnie took his outrageous stage antics to the squared circle in his home state of Florida. Ronnie was actually a "Bucket List' interview from the get go, and with it being Wrestlemania season, getting him on the horn was an easy match up. We discussed the early years of NS, his journey into the mat world, right up to his "Born To Ride" TV series. This being a special wrestling episode, we enlisted the talents of "Ducky" Dustin Maruca and Matt Copper from our sister show "Wrestling Night In Canada". We discussed Ozzy going into the WWE Hall of Fame, the Misfits stint in WCW, and our picks for musicians that would make great wrasslers! If all this doesn't get us the Three Count then musically we crank some Savage, God's Hate, Hirax, Piledriver, Hallow's Eve, AntiSeen, Brody's Militia, and Eat The Turnbuckle! This week we bring you part 3 of our ongoing exploration of the Heavy Metal Mixtape limited edition cassette released on Night Demon Records in October 2015. The guys reflect on the lost art of making mixtapes and taking the listener on a journey through painstaking song selection, sequencing, flow and sound clips, in a way that today's streaming playlists simply cannot replicate. You'll hear about a pair of movie soundclips included on the Mixtape. And the song contributions of Walpyrgus, Hirax, Midnight and Satan's Hallow are discussed in detail. For each track, you'll hear from a member of the contributing band talking about the significance of compilations/mixtapes, telling the history of the band, and sharing inside info on the song in question. Jarvis explains why each song was chosen and describes any links between Night Demon and that band.Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
Hosted by Dr. Jacinta Delhaize & Dr. Daniel Cunnama. Episode 24 features Professor Kavilan Moodley who joins us to discuss another exciting project in radio astronomy in South Africa, HIRAX! The Hydrogen Intensity and Real-time Analysis eXperiment (HIRAX) is a radio telescope array that will map nearly all of the southern sky over a frequency range of 400 to 800 MHz. The primary goal of HIRAX is to measure baryon acoustic oscillations (BAOs): these are remnant ripples in the distribution of galaxies that originate from primordial sound waves that existed in the early universe. This can be used for charting the expansion history of the universe and for shedding light on the nature of dark energy. We've added a new way to donate to 365 Days of Astronomy to support editing, hosting, and production costs. Just visit: https://www.patreon.com/365DaysOfAstronomy and donate as much as you can! When we were offered a chance to speak with black/thrashers Pulchra Morte, we jumped at it. We were expecting we'd be hearing from vox Adam Clemens. But we were pleasantly surprised when axeman Jarrett Pritchard called. Mr. Pritchard not only has extensive experience in the underground, but he's also a producer extraordinaire. He's turned the knobs for some of our fave artists. We discussed the new record "Ex Rosa Ceremonia" as well as his early demo days and his work behind the board. In all, a most fascinating chat.
Episode 24 features Professor Kavilan Moodley who joins us to discuss another exciting project in radio astronomy in South Africa, HIRAX! HIRAX is a radio telescope array that will detect remnant ripples in the distribution of galaxies that originate from primordial sound waves that existed in the early universe. This can be used for charting the expansion history of the universe and for shedding light on the nature of dark energy. The post Episode 24: HIRAX appeared first on The Cosmic Savannah.
