In episode 223 of Heavy Metal Philosophy, Jon Barbas got an early preview of the upcoming Cryptopsy album 'An Insatiable Violence'. After analyzing the lyrics I got a chance to run my interpretations by lead singer, Matt McGachy. Instead of normal slasher and zombie death metal, Cryptopsy have made a death metal record about the worst parts of the Internet. What's your take on using negativity as creative fuel? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let's discuss the philosophy of Cryptopsy!Cryptopsy Links;https://cryptopsyofficial.bandcamp.com/album/an-insatiable-violencehttps://www.instagram.com/cryptopsyofficial/https://www.youtube.com/user/CryptopsyDeathMetalhttps://www.facebook.com/cryptopsyofficial/Get Heavy Metal Philosophy Merch!https://jonbarbas-shop.fourthwall.com/Heavy Metal Philosophy Contact;https://heavymetalphilosophy.com/YouTube: https://youtube.com/@heavymetalphilosophyhttps://www.spreaker.com/show/heavy-metal-philosophyJonBarbas@heavymetalphilosophy.comhttps://mobile.twitter.com/heaviestdoyenhttps://www.facebook.com/HeaviestDoyenhttps://www.instagram.com/heavy_metal_philosophy/https://www.threads.net/@heavy_metal_philosophyhttps://bsky.app/profile/jonbarbas.bsky.social Metal Digest articles link;https://metal-digest.com/author/jon-barbas/#deathmetal #toxicpeople #internet

Interview by Kris PetersCanadian death metal outfit Crytopsy have been quiet for just over a decade, seemingly lost to the world of metal. After a succession of well received albums Crytopsy remained as a force on the live circuit, but after releasing their self titled album independently in 2012 have failed to record another full length since.Since then the band has released two EPs - The Book of Suffering – Tome I (2015) and The Book of Suffering – Tome II (2018) - but it wasn't until an eventual signing with Nuclear Blast Records that their upcoming new album As Gommorah Burns (September 8) was finally given voice.Vocalist Matt McGachy sat down with HEAVY to discuss Crytopsy's absence and the new album. "It's great to be back creating full length records," he began. "Throughout the past 11 years we did drop two EPs and then we toured a lot before the pandemic, so we were extremely busy. A lot of people think not much has happened since the self titled album, but we have been extremely busy. Up until 2019 we toured a lot, and then we stopped in 2019 to write a new record and then the pandemic just added a little bit more time."We ask McGachy what has changed with Crytopsy in those 11 long years."Actually nothing has changed," he laughed, "because we have the same line-up. 2012 John was in the band and then he left and since that moment we are the same four dudes that have been touring the world together. We released The Book Of Suffering Tome 1 and Tome 2 together - those were independent - and then we signed to Nuclear blast which is where As Gomorrah is coming out. Those would be the biggest changes, that we're the longest running Cryptopsy line up and that we signed to Nuclear Blast and will be releasing a full length record coming up on September 8.In the full interview, Matt talks about the musical side of As Gommerah Burns, the singles released and how they represent the album, settling in as vocalist on this, his third album, the dark side of some of the songs and making them gel with the album as a whole, the "new era" of Cryptopsy, the conceptual thread on the album, future plans and more.

The time has finally come for Todd to embrace the float for a bonding trip with new co-workers while Arie gets lost in the comfot of his first new bed in YEARS. Of course, our featured band is bringing Violence from the heat of Phoenix, Arizona to your speakers. This is the Dead Echo Vibe.  Featured Band: This week's episode features Violence from Dead Echo. Bio: Dead Echo is a five-piece American nu-metalcore band, and hailing from the heat of Phoenix, Arizona, they are out for blood. Drawing influence and approach from bands like Alpha Wolf, Darko US, Varials, Dealer, Degrader, and Emmure, Dead Echo is a force to be reckoned with straight from the outset, with nowhere to go but up. This is The Dead Echo Vibe.  What Dead Echo is drinking: Now, this was a tough one, because the five of us have a very eclectic palate. We all have a love for Mexican beers like Dos Equis & Modelo and San Tan Brewing Company beers naturally because we all are from the Southwest, and STBCo. is a local brewery to us. Another one we all enjoy is called “Big Blue Van”; a 5.4% ABV blueberry wheat beer! However, more specifically: Harry, our vocalist, loves Bud Light Lime and Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. Brett, our lead guitarist, loves mixing Guinness with Killian's Red! Tyler, our rhythm guitarist, loves Kilt Lifter, and basically anything that's not an IPA. Adrian, our bassist absolutely loves San Tan Brewing Company's “Juicy Jack” Juicy Hazy IPA. Corey, our drummer, hands-down loves San Tan Brewing Company's seasonal “Sex Panther” 6.8% ABV Double Chocolate Porter. Thirsty Planet Brewing Company is located in Austin, Texas. Caliban is a part of Modern Times Beer's rotating Hazy IPA series with amazing color and even more amazing flavor with bright tropical fruit, berries, lemon, and crisp citrus that's practically guaranteed to improve your immediate point of view. Kahnawake Brewing was the first brewery in Canada to be opened on native indigenous territory. They literally assisted in writing the laws to allow a brewery to operate, and they've been changing the game ever since. We first visited Co-Founder Drew Stevens back in May 2018 on a rainy Spring day shortly after their March opening, so we were overdue to have him back on the pod. Our good mates Noah Forrest of Beerism and Matt McGachy of Vox&Hops joined Cee to chat with Drew about what's been happening over the last 3 years, how their move to canning was perfectly timed, the quality of their brews, the future move to distribution, and a lot more. We crushed 5 beers, including their smoked corn DDH lager Around The Corner (with Champ Libre), their fire crispyboi Jaromir Lägr, their triple hop, lactose IPA 3 Hops This Time #10, their experimental IPA Monkey Dog, and we wrapped it up with Big John, a triple IPA collab with Sir John. Blind craft beer taste tests are becoming quite the thing for the team at BAOS, and for this episode, we went all out. We brought in the dream team of Noah Forrest of the esteemed Beerism.ca, and Matt McGachy of the dominant Vox & Hops (and vocalist of Cryptopsy), to help out Cee with a festive four-pack guessing game thanks to La Canette, a fantastic specialty craft beer store in the Villeray neighbourhood of Montreal. Kevin of La Canette and his team hand-selected four NEIPAs from Quebec and expertly wrapped them so no cheating was possible, and the fellas had to guess the exact style (single NEIPA, double, triple etc), the hop bill, the ABV, any tasting notes and finally, the beer and brewery. Overall, the team did really well, and it wouldn't have happened with the legends at La Canette - make sure you get down to 7255 St. Hubert! Note: About 90 minutes in, Cee had a legit fall. He knocked over the final beer and was annoyed, rushing to clean it up to get back to the podcast when he took a spill in the kitchen. It sounds like he's just angry about spilling the beer but the bruises across his entire left side tell a different story. He's not crazy, he just got hurt pretty bad - but he pushed on and finished the podcast, even with a bleeding armpit and throbbing limbs. A chat with Matt the vocalist for the legendary technical death metal band Cryptopsy and the host of an amazing podcast called Vox & Hops which features stories about the best of metal music and craft beer. Joining us for this conversation is craft beer and metal fan extraordinaire, Jerry. In this episode, Matt shares his story of being a nu-metal child who fronted the metalcore band 3 Mile Scream and found himself in the technical ecstasy of extreme music with Cryptopsy. We then shift gears to hear about how Jerry became a fan and their friendship which developed thanks to Vox & Hops. To stay sane at the start of the pandemic, Matt created the virtual Vox & Hops Thirsty Thursday group which remains a vital link for a great crew of metal and beer lovers. Vox & Hops has also been the inspiration for this podcast as well as a new one from Vox & Hops members Evan and Phil called Whispers From The Void.As is expected on Fans With Bands, we spent some time talking about music. Jerry’s job allows him plenty of time to kick out the jams. We had a laugh as Matt shared how Jerry would send him suggestions for music to check out. This wasn’t just a sample of a few bands, but a full on deluge of awesome music to check out. Matt suggested that Jerry curate a playlist and from this The Jerry With A J special Spotify playlist was born. Jerry’s list is a goldmine of extreme music and has taken on a life of its own. We also talked about our mutual fear of SlipKnot mosh pits.Of course, given that we all love beer and Matt hosts Vox & Hops, we had to share our beers virtually. Matt was enjoying BreWskey Pub and Taproom’s “Brew Juice” and Microbrasserie 4 Origines “Steep of Faith”. Jerry tapped into Intrinsic Brewings “Flanders Red X”. Meanwhile, Chuck sipped on a delicious Stormcloud Brewing “Whiled Away” IPA.We wrapped up with what we were looking forward to in the next six months. Jerry’s looking forward to his job getting a bit less hectic and sharing music and beers with the Vox & Hops crew. Matt is celebrating the second anniversary of Vox & Hops with a special episode featuring all of the original Cryptopsy vocalists (Lord Worm, Mike DiSalvo, Martin Lacroix, Matt McGachy) hosted by Bradley Zorgdrager of Banger TV & Exclaim! The second anniversary celebration includes a special collaboration brew with Overhop Canada called “Voxs&Overhops” which will be available in the Montreal area in November. Cryptopsy will also have a special collaboration brew with Kahnawake Brewing Co. called “Crisptopsy” coming in November as well. And as if that wasn’t enough to look forward to, the 200th episode of Vox & Hops landed recently with the special guest Mikael Stane of Dark Tranquility. Check out Cryptopsy’s music on BandcampFollow Cryptopsy on Facebook, Twitter, InstagramSubscribe to the Vox & Hops podcast on your favorite podcast service. Follow Vox & Hops on Facebook, Twitter, and InstagramYou can also follow Fans With Bands on Facebook, Twitter, and InstagramFor samplings of music by artists featured on Fans With Bands, drop by our playlist on SpotifySupport the podcast!!
