Take a tripped out audio excursion up the mountain to the 2016 World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler, B.C. with us. We start out, as you must, by grabbing a last surf at Long Beach to prep for an attempt at surfing and snowboarding, in what I consider sister cities of Tofino and Whistler, within 24 hours. We'll take you on a hitchhike adventure involving a crying baby, a bachelor party and roller derby girls heading to the same festival, making last minute jersey adjustments on the ferry, iron in hand. I ask a couple Whistler locals about the significance of the "Apres," as the results of the big ski competition are announced in the background. Plus, we'll hear the coach of the First Nations Snowboarding Team describe the significance of A Tribe Called Red's music (@atribecalledredofficial) — and he'll tell us about a particularly meaningful moment during their big opening performance. Then we collect the four members of Juno-nominated BADBADNOTGOOD (@badbadnotgood) to recap their performance, find out about their musical vocabulary and ask what it's been like to work with Ghostface Killah (@ghostfacekillah), Kaytranada (@kaytranada) and Mos Def (@mos-def-official). Of course you'll be treated to a whack of dope tunes from the likes of A Tribe Called Red (@a-tribe-called-red), Flying Lotus (@flyinglotus), Earl Sweatshirt (@ofwgkta-official), Pendulum (@pendulum), Railtown Prophets and Little Simz (@littlesimz) [Originally aired on 90.1 FM Tuff City Radio April 12, 2016]
-Plenty of great music up for you folks in this edition including @Kiasmos "Looped", @odd-nosdam Odd Nosdam "Sisters" (Boards of Canada remix), @Nero "The Thrill" (@renelavice Rene LaVice remix OhLaLa's Live Version). -I interview a couple dudes I initially thought were twins who have been doing some pretty extreme cross-country camping. They'll explain how they scored a sponsorship from North Face. (11:10) Check out Francis Fraioli (photographer) and Alex Marcouiller's journey via I Am Nomad (https://www.facebook.com/Iamnomad2015), which has taken them through Alberta and the Yukon so far. They're hoping to head to South America in the future… (hit them up at iamnomad@hotmail.com) "I think we're actually just being ourselves." "Everyone should be having a good vibe when they travel." -We take a look at how fixing the resort community's "amenity policy" could ultimately help house the homeless or build a sports facility. (41:00) -We preview the World Ski and Snowboard festival in Whistler, featuring music from A Tribe Called Red, Chromeo and BADBADNOTGOOD. -We have an interview (30:30) with Moremi Adeyinka, who scooped up $500 in the Tuff City Idol competition, only bested by her own mother, Phyliss Merasty. (Includes performance snippet). We'll premiere a track from Calgarian @indiazi "Hangin' by a Thread," which could be interpreted as a cultural reference to the state of the Albertan economy right now. Or not ;) #peace
