The 3-day curse is broken, but Grant DeYoung runs into the dreaded 4-day curse, falling one win short of a guaranteed TOC invite. But that's ok, as Amar Kakirde is here to pick up the slack and starts a 3-day run of his own, to be continued this week. Plus, it's a new entry in the "Response of the Year" category as all 3 players can't remember who fronted Van Halen, we learn Ken Jennings and Drew Carey share a birthday, and John finally gets to watch a Calgarian play the game. And a quick programming note: our Masters recap will be coming out early next week with a VERY special guest. Get excited! Source: Reactor Magazine: "The Scary Ham" by Ellen Klages. Easter 2023 - Luke 19:28-40: If you are a Christian, do you trust Jesus? If you don't identify as a Christian or hold another religious belief, do you trust the idea of Jesus? Who he was? What he did? What he taught? A different take on the question: Do you trust Jesus as king? As an authority? Think about the last time you were betrayed or hurt by someone in authority or by a collective authority? Do you trust power structures? Statistically, there is a high level of distrust for institutional authority. Some of it is understandably placed. So, what does the Kingship of Jesus have to do with a 21st century Calgarian when we have trust issues? The author of the Gospel of Luke, I believe, would point to Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey or colt. So will we. See you this weekend?

Nabeel is the Chief Executive Officer of Pedesting and a Co-founder in the Pedesting Corporation. In 2017 the Senate recognized Nabeel for his contributions by awarding him The Senate 150th Anniversary Medal for his generosity, dedication and volunteerism in his hometown and community; in 2019 Nabeel was inducted by Avenue Magazine into the Calgary 40 Under 40 club for his accomplishments in his professional life as a proud Calgarian. Erin is the Chief Creative Officer of the Pedesting Corporation and is Co-Founder in the company, along with his business partner Nabeel Ramji. His passion for accessibility derives from his vocation as an architect and his years-long friendship with Nabeel who has used a wheelchair his entire life. Erin received his architecture degree from the University of Oregon and apprenticed in New York City with world-renowned architect Aldo Rossi for four years. He has more than 30 years' experience as an architect, working on projects spanning three continents. Erin spent a dozen years immersing himself in the study of urbanism but it was not until he crossed paths with Nabeel that he realized architecture, for some people, can be a confounding barrier. With Nabeel, Erin has created an approach to understanding the built environment that has the power to give all pedestrians a clear understanding of the urban landscape and how to navigate safely and quickly through the many man-made barriers. To Erin, the Pedesting app has the potential to help everyone partake in everything that our society has to offer: on the sidewalks, in the parks, at the universities and in the shops. We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T'ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
In this episode with Alayne Lebsack, we're talking about why personal style is important, and why it's so much more than simply the clothing you wear. Can our style impact our self-expression? Our confidence? Our desire to show up more authentically in our lives, businesses, work, and relationships? How does knowing our personal style affect our overall joy and fulfillment? While her work can be categorized within fashion and lifestyle, the core of what Alayne Joy does is about cultivating authentic relationships, based on integrity, respect and openness. A born and raised Calgarian, Alayne has always had an interest and love for style and fashion - often disregarding trends and rules, but rather focusing on what she loves and loves to wear. With two boys and a hilarious husband of almost 12 years, Alayne believes in living a joy-filled life of intention and following your heart. Being a Personal Stylist and Personal Shopper was always in the back of her mind, but it took many different career paths until she felt like it was time. Her "just do it - what's the worst that can happen?!" mindset propelled her to start her first style-focused business, Apostle Boutique which she has recently sold. Four years later, Alayne launched her Styling business, and the success was immediate. Being featured in over six magazines, working on dozens of photoshoots, and styling over 100 clients, Alayne feels so fortunate that she's been able to combine her values & passions into a career that helps men and women see themselves in a new confident & powerful way. When Alayne works with her clients she wants them to feel comfortable like they are spending time with a friend, and that is exactly how I felt in my conversation with her. We talk about what is really meant by the term ‘personal style', finding your personal style, styling tips and tricks, and how relationships are at the core of the work that Alayne does with her clients. Distinct on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 3/28/22 About Distinct - At the age of sixteen, Distinct (Samantha Makeiff) was a little young to be getting into the electronic scene, but a series of events had started to show her the way. Starting her DJing career from there, it wasn't long until she was out purchasing her first pieces of vinyl. Due to an extensive musical background it was only a matter of time before she was dabbling in more than house music, spinning a variety of other genres including drum and bass, breaks, and ghetto funk. Her versatility and ear for top notch electronica has landed her multiple gigs across Canada. Eager to share her music and support her local scene, Distinct has involved herself with a plethora of local Calgarian production and show crews. Helping bring some of the biggest names into Calgary has proven to be a busy and encouraging use of time, with lots of time also going to pursuing production. With them and a few other collectives, she currently helps to promote, perform and aid in the success of their popular events featuring the likes of Freaky Flow, Black Sun Empire, Dub FX and Dillon Francis to name a few. After placing 4th in "Calgary's Next Top DJ" and a recent interview and article in (djmag.ca) she caught the attention of the scouts from the Drum & Bass Girls of Canada. It was no surprise they'd soon be asking her to join the team of women making noise across the country. With an already extensive festival circuit, a dream to conquer the world, and a family of experienced and supportive female artists to back her, there is no stopping this ball of D&B fire, as this is only the beginning of a very promising career. Did you know Blake Coleman celebrated last year's Cup win with a staph infection, of all things? Hey, whatever it takes! The Flames winger goes into detail on that, the drive to win a third championship here with this team, becoming a Calgarian and so much more.
Ophira Eisenberg may be Americans' favourite Calgarian. Perhaps this damns her by faint praise given that America's most famous Calgarian is probably Ted Cruz. At any rate, it's for good reason that Ophira is so well and widely loved; she's almost embarrassingly multi-talented. She's an author, radio/podcast talent, stand up and a frequent host of many a live event at The Moth. She's a houseplant gardener. She's also really nice. It was a real pleasure spending time (and making this episode) with her. You can (and should) learn more about Ophira at her web site, or by following her on twitter and instagram. As you can imagine, I get to spend a lot of time with each of the "songs of the week" and few of them are as pleasurable to spend time with as Let's Go Crazy. It's not only a shiny piece of candy from the days of my youth, it also has a little something in it for the law/copyright geek in me (the guy whose day job pays for this podcasting problem I have). As always, remember to follow the show on instagram, twitter and facebook and to get over to the website to sign up for the TVK mailing list.See you in two weeks!
