We dive into Drake's three-project drop: Iceman, Habibti, and Made of Honor. Standout tracks like “Janice STFU,” and whether this is a dominant new era or oversaturation. We also get into Jay-Z's surprise freestyle and shots at Drake, asking what it means for the culture and whether this signals something bigger on the way. From there, we cover key releases across the scene, including Isaiah Rashad's new project, 6LACK's Love Is The New Gangsta, Little Simz's Sugar Girl EP, and JPEGMAFIA's continued push into experimental rap.We talk consistency, album of the year contenders, artist trajectories, and who's really shaping the sound of hip-hop right now plus our picks for best singles, sleepers, and disappointments from the month.

This week's show, SKIES, sits somewhere between uplift and reflection. I found myself going down a bit of a historical rabbit hole learning about Haile Selassie and his time in Bath. There's something powerful about imagining that moment an emperor in exile, moving through the same streets and spaces we pass through now. Bath Skyline Closer to the present, we spent time walking the Bath Skyline Walk — open views, clear air, that sense of space that really connects with the feeling of this episode. Steve (2025 film) And then into Watershed to catch a film that really stayed with me. Seeing Little Simz on screen alongside Cillian Murphywas something else the performance, the atmosphere, the weight of it. Proper moving, and genuinely gripping from start to finish. Little Simz in particular was incredible.
I speak a lot of French, oui, oui, oui. Which rapper–producer combos actually change careers and eras, not just make a few hot tracks?Rapper–producer chemistry is the focus this week as we dive into GOAT-level hip hop partnerships and how the right beats can shape an artist's legacy. Little Simz & Inflo get their flowers first: a three-album UK run (Gray Area, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, No Thank You) of cinematic, skit-laced, genre-hopping rap that feels flawless and still underrated. We talk UK hip hop, modern rap production, why Inflo might be the country's best producer across any genre, and the frustration of seeing that partnership stall. Then it's Nas & Hit-Boy, six albums deep and a masterclass in how one producer can flip the “bad beat picker” narrative and usher in grown-man, 50-year-old rap done right. We break down KD3 as the peak of the run, the Dragon Ball power-up analogies, and why some hip hop producers probably shouldn't buy into their own MC hype.We close with Just Blaze & Jay-Z – the blueprint for 2000s rapper–producer combos, from “Public Service Announcement” and Dynasty intros to Black Album interludes, sports-game horns and Flipside-era bangers that defined a generation. Expect talk on classic New York rap, Roc-A-Fella era production, why Just Blaze doesn't get enough flowers today, and why hearing “Just Blaze!” still makes every hip hop head screw their face up in anticipation.

As much as I'm sitting on a pile of recordings to use for Soul Shack episodes, after I finished my set Friday night at Mansion, I was like "I should use this as a Soul Shack Mix". It's quite the musical journey - Beginning of the night is always just for me, and this time it involved the new Little Simz track Free, a small set of jungle remixes and of course at least one Sade track for the head bouncer, but then I went into (my version of) party mode, doing my best to rock the party, but with a mature Soul Shack influence, and trying to avoid most of the super cheesy and cliche sing along stuff (there's still a little bit though) and then finished off with a few classic house tracks. Moster är griot som förde Gambias historia vidare i sin folkmusik.I timme två Sampa the Great, Little Simz, Hope Tala och Muva of Earth

Fashion icon Bella Freud on abandoning psychics, learning to trust herself and realising that what happens next is entirely up to her. Freud is a designer and creative whose clothes have adorned the likes of Zadie Smith, Kate Moss, Little Simz and…well…me. She's also a cult podcaster with her hit show, Fashion Neurosis, where guests are invited to examine what clothes mean to them. She's lived a fascinating life: the daughter of Lucian Freud, the great-granddaughter of psychoanalyst Sigmund and the sister of novelist Esther who wrote the novel Hideous Kinky about their childhood. Now in her 60s, she joins me to explore why she's always late, why she regrets never joining the circus and what it's really like carrying the weight of such an instantly recognisable family name. Plus: why she no longer goes to psychics. Bella is so smart, considered and stylish. This free-ranging conversation will make you think, laugh and feel unexpectedly hopeful about getting older. ✨ IN THIS EPISODE: 00:00 Introduction 04:04 The Power of Fashion and Design 06:47 Challenges in the Fashion Industry 11:52 The Significance of Punctuality 17:02 Childhood Memories and Their Impact 22:18 Therapy and Family Loss 26:13 Reflecting on a Peaceful Passing 27:43 Family Dynamics 30:04 The Circus Job That Never Was 32:33 Sibling Relationships and Childhood Roles 36:06 The Legacy of the Freud Name 41:23 Embracing Failures and Life Lessons 46:28 Living Authentically and Joyfully

Guvna B is a musician and rapper from Newham, London, growing up in the same area as the likes of Kano, Ghetts, and Dizzee Rascal. Despite limited music opportunities growing up, he's become a leading voice in the UK's rap and hip-hop scene, and also works as a football pundit for Sky Sports. He chats to Headliner about his work as co-chair of Youth Music and helping some of the underrepresented voices in the UK, who could be the next Stormzy or Little Simz.
Little Simz is one of the most acclaimed rappers in the world right now. In 2022, she won the prestigious Mercury Prize for her album “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.” But after falling out with her longtime producer and collaborator, the British rapper started thinking maybe music wasn't for her anymore. Little Simz joins Tom Power to tell us why and how she turned that around to create her latest studio album, “Lotus.”
Little Simz is a rapper from England who put out her first album in 2015. She's won the Mercury Prize, a Brit Award, and three MOBO awards. She also starred in the Netflix series Top Boy. Her most recent album is called Lotus. It came out in June 2025, and it followed a pretty tumultuous time in her career. For this episode, I got to talk to Little Simz about one of the songs from that album, called "Free," along with Miles Clinton James, who produced the track. Thanks to Sonos for their support of the podcast. Check out sonos.com.For more, visit songexploder.net/little-simz.
