En effet, qui peut changer les principes des hommes ? Et si les principes ne changent pas, que reste-t-il sinon l'esclavage des gens qui gémissent et font semblant d'être convaincus ? Eh bien maintenant, cite-moi Alexandre, Philippe et Démétrios de Phalère. On verra s'ils ont bien su ce que veut la nature commune, s'ils se sont éduqués eux-mêmes ; mais s'ils ont joué un rôle de tragédie, rien ne me condamne à les imiter. Le travail de la philosophie est simple et modeste ; ne me pousse pas à la vanité. » Marc Aurèle rédige cela alors que l'Empire romain est à une époque de grande transformation, mais son propre règne entamé en 161 est difficile, marqué par les guerres et les épidémies. « Il faut construire ta vie action par action, dira-t-il encore, et si chacune, autant qu'il est possible, s'achève, t'en contenter. » Quelles sont les actions qui, aujourd'hui toujours, font figurer Marc Aurèle comme un dirigeant politique idéal, un sage dont les mots ne cessent d'inspirer ? Sixième médaille d'or olympique pour Martin Fourcade, l'ancien biathlète français, légende du biathlon, pourtant retraité vient de recevoir en Italie, seize ans après, la médaille de l'épreuve de mass start, départ en ligne de 2010 à Vancouver après le déclassement pour dopage du vainqueur de l'époque, le Russe Evgeny Ustiugov. Martin Fourcade est ce dimanche 15 février l'invité international de la mi-journée de RFI. RFI : Qu'avez-vous ressenti en montant tout à l'heure sur la plus haute marche du podium ? Est-ce que seize ans après, cette médaille olympique a la même saveur, entre guillemets, qu'une médaille reçue dans la foulée d'une victoire ? Martin Fourcade : Alors non, elle n'a pas la même saveur, mais c'est une saveur totalement différente. C'est vrai que ce n'est pas une médaille de l'émotion du moment. C'est une médaille qui est remplie de symboles. Celle de la lutte pour un sport propre. Celle de pouvoir montrer que même si la justice est parfois un peu longue, trop longue, elle finit par être rendue. Je crois que ces Jeux olympiques ne sont pas seulement du sport. Ce sont aussi des messages envoyés sur l'importance de pouvoir vivre tous ensemble sur un même toit, de pouvoir se respecter quel que soit notre âge, notre religion, notre culture ou nos convictions. Et, c'est le pouvoir aussi, en ce qui concerne cette médaille, de pouvoir montrer qu'on peut se battre et donner le meilleur de soi-même en respectant les règles du sport. Et donc, je suis très heureux que ces symboles soient récompensés aujourd'hui. Voilà. Et c'est magnifique de pouvoir la recevoir ici à Anterselva qui est un site qui m'a beaucoup marqué pendant ma carrière, de pouvoir la recevoir devant mon frère Simon qui était en pleurs sur ce même podium, il y a seize ans à Vancouver. De pouvoir la recevoir devant mes enfants de trois, huit et dix ans qui étaient loin d'être imaginés à l'époque. Donc voilà, c'est chouette de pouvoir vivre ça et d'avoir la chance de clôturer cette magnifique carrière pour moi, sur ce lieu où j'ai décidé d'arrêter ma carrière justement il y a six ans, ici aux championnats du monde. À l'époque, vous le disiez, vous n'aviez pas d'enfant, vous aviez 21 ans. Cette course de Vancouver, en 2010 a été un point de bascule, un déclic dans votre carrière ? C'était votre tout premier podium en carrière. C'est à partir de là que s'est construite votre histoire avec le très haut niveau et les JO d'hiver ? Clairement, cette course a été un virage dans ma carrière, un tournant. Elle m'a aussi donné envie d'aller chercher beaucoup plus. C'est pour ça que c'est étrange de la voir se transformer en or aujourd'hui. Cette médaille d'argent, elle a été hyper importante dans ma construction, dans ma volonté d'aller chercher plus haut, d'aller gravir cette dernière marche sur ce podium olympique. Et donc voilà. Je crois que c'est mon histoire ce n'était ni d'être médaillée d'argent à l'époque, ni d'être médaillée d'or aujourd'hui, mais d'avoir le bonheur unique de vivre ces deux émotions à seize ans d'écart. Donc voilà, c'est une médaille qui ne laisse aucun goût amer, aucun regret comme on pourrait peut-être le penser. C'est une médaille qui est remplie de douceur et qui me permet de me replonger seize ans en arrière avec énormément d'émotions. Et seize ans après, aujourd'hui, vous êtes toujours un observateur avisé de l'équipe de France de biathlon qui cartonne dans ces Jeux 2026. Avec une belle moisson de médailles, encore une médaille de bronze tout à l'heure avec Émilien Jacquelin sur la poursuite. Le titre aussi de Quentin Fillon-Maillet au sprint, deux biathlètes qui ont suivi vos traces. Ils ont commencé à vos côtés. Le succès du biathlon français, il ne se dément pas, mais aussi d'autres disciplines à ces Jeux d'hiver. Comment est-ce que vous expliquez que vos successeurs marchent toujours aussi fort ? C'est un bonheur de pouvoir se dire que ces athlètes qui sont médaillés aujourd'hui, ont aussi grandi en regardant ces courses à la télévision, comme j'avais eu la chance de le faire en regardant Raphaël Poirée et Vincent Defrasne à l'époque. Je sais que ce sont des moments qui sont fondateurs dans une carrière d'athlète, de pouvoir se dire « moi aussi, je peux le faire ». Et ils viennent du même pays, ils ont le même encadrement, ils ont le même parcours que moi et je sais à quel point ça compte. Donc je suis extrêmement heureux d'avoir pu contribuer à ça et d'avoir pu aussi, sur le début de leur carrière, partager ces années avec Quentin et avec Émilien notamment, qui sont à la fois des athlètes d'exception mais aussi des amis proches. J'ai vécu des émotions très fortes avec eux en carrière et c'est un bonheur de les voir performer aujourd'hui et j'ai vibré de tout mon être aujourd'hui devant la médaille d'Émilien qui nous a donné des émotions comme lui seul sait en donner. Et l'équipe de France a battu ce matin son record de médailles, un succès de très bon augure en vue des JO 2030 qui auront lieu dans les Alpes françaises. En vue de ces Jeux, la question de la gouvernance se pose. On a vu des démissions en chaîne ces dernières semaines au sein du comité d'organisation. On sent que ce n'est pas très serein. Quel regard portez-vous sur ces derniers développements, vous qui étiez pressenti pour prendre la tête de ce comité ? Beaucoup de tristesse avant tout et ne comptez pas sur moi pour me réjouir de cette situation. Je suis un amoureux du sport. Je suis un amoureux des Jeux olympiques et je suis un amoureux de nos montagnes. Donc, j'ai, quelle que soit ma position dans le projet, envie que ces Jeux soient une réussite. Ce qui est sûr, c'est que voilà les raisons qui m'ont fait renoncer à cette fonction il y a un an sont aussi celles qui sont mises en lumière aujourd'hui par cette gouvernance compliquée. Tout ce que je souhaite, c'est que les parties arrivent à se mettre d'accord et à avancer d'un seul front. Et je souhaite vraiment le meilleur à Edgar [Grospiron] dans cette délicate période. Je sais à quel point il a été plein de respect envers moi il y a un an. Et donc voilà, je lui souhaite vraiment le meilleur. Et est-ce que vous seriez prêts, vous, à jouer un plus grand rôle dans l'organisation de ces Jeux 2030 ? Moi j'ai répondu à cette question il y a un an déjà, et donc voilà. La réponse reste la même. Ce sont des choix qui sont difficiles à faire dans une vie parce que quand on aime les Jeux olympiques et qu'on s'est construit autour de ça, de renoncer à l'opportunité d'avoir la possibilité d'organiser ces jeux chez soi, c'est un moment qui a été très compliqué. Donc voilà, ma réponse, je l'ai donnée il y a un an. Martin Fourcade encore bravo pour cette sixième médaille d'or olympique. Est-ce que vous allez en faire ? Est-ce que vous allez l'exposer ou la ranger avec les autres ? Alors un peu des deux, parce que en la rangeant avec les autres, je vais l'exposer au siège social de mon équipementier Rossignol. C'est le lieu où j'ai laissé toutes mes médailles tout au long de ma carrière. C'était une sorte de rituel pour pouvoir passer à autre chose et pour pouvoir se dire voilà, celle-là, maintenant je ne regarde plus derrière, mais je regarde devant. Et peut-être que ce sera l'occasion aussi de mettre un coup de pied aux fesses pour me dire : eh bien voilà, qu'est-ce qu'on fait demain ?
