Discover the magic of community-driven cat rescue in our latest Friends Like Us episode. Join host Marina Franklin, Becky Wisdom from Green Point Cats, and comedian Subhah Agarwal as they chat about cat colonies, TNR, and the urgency to help communities in the over populations of cats.  Becky Wisdom is the founder of Greenpoint Cats, a leading Brooklyn-based animal rescue organization focused on TNR (trap, neuter, return). Her journey into rescue began in 2018 when she moved to Greenpoint and found herself living on a block with a crew of unforgettable feline neighbors—an encounter that inspired her to take action. What started as an effort to help a few street cats quickly became a full-time calling. By 2020, Becky had left her career in marketing to devote herself entirely to rescue work. Her grassroots efforts sparked a growing community of animal advocates in Greenpoint and beyond, building a network of support and care for some of the city's most vulnerable animals. Her passion for rescue is deeply rooted in her upbringing, which included daily chores like caring for opossums and rehabilitating birds. With media coverage from New York Magazine, the Hallmark Channel, and several local TV news outlets, Becky continues to save lives—and inspire others to do the same. Subhah Agarwal has brought an honesty to her comedy that will leave you saying "I didn't need to know that." Subhah has written for Netflix's “Arsenio Hall” limited series, the "Plan B" movie on Hulu," and The Jim Jefferies Show"on Comedy Central, amongst others. You can also catch her jokes live at stand up comedy clubs across the country. If you don't want to leave your couch, you can see her late night debut on NBC's "A Little Late With Lilly Singh." She's also appeared on season three of HBO's "Westworld", "General Hospital," TruTv's sketch comedy "Friends of the People", and as herself on MTV2, Comedy Central, and Gotham Comedy Live. Always hosted by Marina Franklin - One Hour Comedy Special: Single Black Female ( Amazon Prime, CW Network), TBS's The Last O.G, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Hysterical on FX, The Movie Trainwreck, Louie Season V, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, HBO's Crashing, and The Breaks with Michelle Wolf. pWotD Episode 2684: Linkin Park Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 540,248 views on Friday, 6 September 2024 our article of the day is Linkin Park.Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist/rhythm guitarist/keyboardist Mike Shinoda, lead guitarist Brad Delson, DJ/turntablist Joe Hahn, bassist Dave Farrell, co-lead vocalist Emily Armstrong, and drummer Colin Brittain. The lineup for the band's first seven studio albums included lead vocalist Chester Bennington and drummer Rob Bourdon; following Bennington's suicide in July 2017, the band entered an indefinite hiatus. In September 2024, Linkin Park's reformation was announced along with the addition of Armstrong and Brittain.Categorized mainly as alternative rock and nu metal, Linkin Park's earlier music spanned a fusion of heavy metal and hip hop, while their later music features more electronica and pop elements. Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led to the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling", and "In the End" all charting highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the number two spot on the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts. The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, while their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park is among both the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards, and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:25 UTC on Saturday, 7 September 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Linkin Park on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Emma.

Subhah Agarwal and Sharon Lavigne visit friends and discuss Sharon Lavigne's battle for clean air and justice, taking on the big industries that have created Louisiana's “Cancer Alley” -- nicknamed for the above-average rates of cancer within the 85-mile stretch of communities with the highest concentration of fossil fuel and petrochemical operations in the Western Hemisphere. Sharon Cayette Lavigne, Times voted Sharon one of the most influential people of 2024. Her tireless dedication garnered global recognition in June 2020 when she received the esteemed Goldman Environmental Prize for her resolute activism. Adding to her accolades, Sharon received the Mary Magdalene Award for Courageous Women of Faith from the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in February 2022, followed by the prestigious Notre Dame's 2022 Laetare Medal—a testament to her invaluable contributions as an American Catholic layperson. Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to actress/director Jessica Pinfield, daughter of music personality & record exec. Matt Pinfield. Our conversation with Jessica was a very frank and open discussion that took us to some pretty fun places discussing early MTV and alternative radio and also to some pretty intense, dark places as well. Through it all, Jessica is a fantastic and honest guest who talks to us about her early memories of growing up in New Jersey at alternative rock stations & indie record stores while also regaling us of stories of shows like 120 Minutes and more. Along the way however, we hear about a less than ideal side of the freewheeling world of 90s's excess that she lived in with her dad and mom in a household that wasn't quite Leave it to Beaver. Jessica is brutally frank about the things she saw as a kid but also as an adult in a slightly dysfunctional world of radio, television and the music industry in general. But thankfully, as we learn, Jessica and dad Matt are reconnecting and even living together in the same house all these years later, today in LA. Better yet, we hear from Jessica about her acting and directing career she's creating for herself today and it's a beautiful counterbalance to everything that went on prior. Take a listen.

KnockBack: The Retro and Nostalgia Podcast

If you're an American gen-xer or millennial, there's a better-than-decent chance you were heavily influenced by MTV growing up. Launched in the early '80s, culturally crescendoing in the '90s, and still highly-relevant into the 2000s, MTV's brand of so-called 'music television' helped define a succession of generations' musical tastes, fashion, and the wider spectrum of entertainment full-stop. Today's episode of KnockBack is dedicated to MTV through the eyes of two people born in 1973 and 1984, both loyal viewers of the network not unlike millions upon millions of their respective contemporaries. There were the music videos, yes. And they were glorious. But there's so much more to delve into, too: Programming (120 Minutes, Headbangers Ball, TRL), spin-offs (VH1, MTV2), the rise of reality television as we know it (The Real World, Road Rules), and on and on and on. Deemed “a unique crossover between Evanescence's Amy Lee, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, and Kelly Clarkson”, pop singer-songwriter Saturn Lane has been finding her voice. She was born and raised in New York City, and discovered her passion for music at just 2 years old. As a toddler in dance lessons, she learned she also had a love for performing. Before she had turned double digits, Saturn started writing original songs. Growing up in a musical family, Saturn drew lots of inspiration from the success of her late grandfather, WMCA “Good Guy” Rock-n-Roll Radio Hall of Famer Jack Spector. As a teen, Saturn found herself in a band, singing solos for her high school choir, and working at a local recording studio. In addition, she performed for local NYC Cable, co-wrote with local artists, and started to record her own music. At 18, she was featured on MTV2 singing for pop superstar Bebe Rexha, who praised her drive. Saturn also holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Industry Studies. Saturn's main artistic influences are Ariana Grande, Bebe Rexha, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift. She writes honest, daring songs sharing her struggles of battling anxiety and finding the woman she's becoming. She wants her songs to bring societally-deemed “taboo” topics to life, such as mental health. Saturn Lane's new single, "Messed Up", is available everywhere now!

Robert Cooper and Mark Radulich review Intolerance by Throwdown! Throwdown is an American heavy metal band from Orange County, California. Formed in 1997, the band has endured numerous lineup changes to the point where no original members remain. Throwdown has toured as part of Ozzfest, Sounds of the Underground, Hellfest, and Warped Tour, as well as with bands such as In Flames, Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Korn and Cavalera Conspiracy. The songs "Forever" and "Burn" were staples on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and Revolver Magazine called them part of "The Future of Metal" after hearing the album Vendetta. Initially branded a hardcore punk band, albums like Venom and Tears and Deathless took a sharp turn towards metal, with critics likening the band's sound to that of Pantera and Sepultura. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to actress Jessica Pinfield, daughter of VJ, DJ, personality & record executive Matt Pinfield. When we booked Jessica for this episode, we had lots of questions that may have seemed superfluous. What we got was anything but. Jessica was incredibly open and honest about her father, her mother and her family in ways we simply did not anticipate. What we thought might be an interview about what it was like hosting MTV's 120 Minutes or USA Network's Farmclub.com became a much deeper dive into addiction, parenting, therapy, Covid and even murder. Jessica spoke her truth about things we rarely talk about in person, let alone a podcast. Yes we talk about what it was like hanging out with dad when he was trading in records at the Princeton Record Exchange and answering phones at WHTG in New Jersey as well as hearing her story about growing up in a household not feeling love from either parent. Thankfully, a lot of growth has taken place over the years and dad and daughter are living together now, mending fences and connecting in ways it would be hard to imagine they could even a few short years ago. So if you think this episode is about the ‘wild and wacky days of MTV's golden years' this isn't the podcast for you. It's a brutally honest episode that frankly, we didn't see coming. It's next, on the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

It's just Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke this week hanging by the pool house, as they discuss S2 Ep13, “Father Knows Best,” or as Mindy shares, “aka The Test.” The hosts break down this episode. Poking fun at dated references from the episode like MTV2 and VH1, finding holes in the whole “adoption storyline” and let's talk about Seth's crazy hair in this episode. Hear stories from Rachel's high school days in the drama club (with other celebs you may have heard of like Rami Malek and Kirsten Dunst.) Melinda shares a story of a pillow fight gone bad!  And of course, favorite memories from this episode, like the trouble with throwing Max's ashes off the pier and Julie's acting choice during the balcony scene at the adoption party. What do you think – should Caleb take the paternity test? Let us know in the comments below! Father Knows Best Synopsis: When Caleb announces he is going to adopt Lindsay, Julie has strong feelings against it. She raises doubts, asking if he ever took a paternity test.
