Time to head beyond the bounds. Bird bone robots arrive as we check out some of Yoji Shinkawa's Zone of the Enders designs, one of the lesser Kojima series (by sales at least, I think they're great). Spindly weirdos meet clunky big boys, and then we close it out with a dash of evil femme by way of Egyptology. I wish he was working on something other than Death Stranding 2- I will play that game, but the like Wet Oil aesthetic those games have does not speak to me. You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! If you want to find us on Twitter, Dylan is @lowpolyrobot and Six is @sixdettmar. Our opening theme is the Hangar Theme from Gundam Breaker 3, and our ending theme for this episode is Beyond the Bounds by Maki Kimura from Zone of the Enders 2: The Second Runner. Press Pause Radio - Podcast

ew year, same tardy nonsense—we recorded a few weeks ago, but life and technical issues got in the way of the production process, and for that, we sincerely apologize to y’all. Before we get into the Golden Zonkies’ class of 2024, however, we wanted to have an old-school “PPR-ass PPR” round robin on a featured topic, and what better subject than the art and science behind video game box art? Join George, Ed, and Andrew as they discuss the history, culture, and legacy of box art, such as the ever-changing motifs of design and the artists who famously brought them to life on shelves like George Opperman, Greg Martin, Bob Wakelin, Yoshitaka Amano, Tom DuBois, Ken Sugimori, Yoji Shinkawa, and more. Hell, have you ever thought about what the box of your favorite video game may have looked like in a different country? Raccoon Mario soaring against a yellow backdrop may be a Mount Rushmore type of pastiche here, but in Japan, the giant ensemble piece of characters against a teal palate is what tickles the nostalgia bone in that corner of the world, and that’s so weirdly fascinating don’t you think? Every year that passes is another year closer to a fully digital media landscape, and while that can have huge ramifications on the preservation of software, something as innocuous as box art can sometimes be the little dumb thing that makes physical media truly that much more special. We hope you enjoy the latest episode of Press Pause Radio—and don’t forget to check out the next one, because we’ll be doing the Golden Zonkies for 2024 next! A quarter of a century ago, we got some real stealthy classics – some of which have already been covered on this very podcast. Today we're looking at the game from that year that introduced many to the fact that video games can also be a lot like movies. We're going back to 1998 to take a look at the third game in one of the genre's most beloved (and maligned) series. We're talking Metal Gear Solid. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we talk about how director / producer / writer Hideo Kojima, who wanted to make films from a young age, broke into the games industry. We also discuss some of the very explosive, '90s ways this game was marketed. We chat about pre-launch press coverage too, which includes some Resident Evil and Lego mentions, a research trip to see a SWAT team, and some chat on the influence of Yoji Shinkawa. In our review, you'll hear some chat on the excellent Soliton Radar (and why it needs to be excellent, because the game has a fixed camera), fading footprints in the snow, chaff grenades, hiding in cardboard boxes, disappearing enemies, F.R.E.E. (full reactive eyes entertainment), Benny Hill, floopy-doop weapons, mostly great boss fights, Psycho Mantis reading your mind, that opening hour, how anti-war this war game is, Meryl's codec number on the back of case, the briefing tapes, the Yakuza / Like A Dragon games, some of the most verbose and melodramatic people ever, "press the select button," and the alert noise. After all that, the lads take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then they give their final verdicts on whether Metal Gear Solid is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those that would like to play along at home, we'll be reviewing Outlast on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

Les recos : Paul : Duelyst 2 Vincent : Beacon Pines Delphine : Neon White Max : Risk Of Rain 2 Fabien : Tiny Rogues, Mount & Blade 2

Recently, the three of us were asked by ban__hus to take part in his grimdarkfilmclub project, where people select a film, book, record, and artwork that has inspired them. Our selections are up on the grimdarkfilmclub Instagram account, but we wanted to use this episode to talk more about them and why they are important to us. Many of them speak to our interest in realism, which is reflected in our hobby projects where we modify the scale of miniatures to reduce heroic scale. We talk about the following films: Jin-Roh - the Wolf Brigade, Unforgiven, and Blue Ruin. We talk about the following books: Roadside Picnic, The Shadow of the Torturer (The Book of the New Sun), and the Crystal World. We talk about the following albums: Liar - The Jesus Lizard, Bivouac - Jawbreaker, and Songs about Fucking - Big Black. Finally, we talk about the artists: Yoji Shinkawa, Alberto Giacometti, and Joe Keinberger.Follow grimdarkfilmclub!Follow ban__hus!Follow Joe Keinberger!

The final episode of the Liquid Gamer Podcast will feature none other than Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid franchise. He is a former Green Beret and a highly skilled special operations soldier engaged in solo stealth and espionage missions. Snake was often tasked with destroying models of the bipedal nuclear weapon-armed mecha known as Metal Gear. Controlled by the player, he must act alone, supported via radio by commanding officers and specialists. While his first appearances in the original Metal Gear games were references to Hollywood films, the Metal Gear Solid series has given a consistent design by artist Yoji Shinkawa alongside an established personality. The character has been well received by critics and is my favorite video game character of all time.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/southarcadia/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/southarcadia/support
