Ben and Trev have been making a fair few adventure games recently (check out bslinger.itch.io for the games) so they thought it was about time that they return to the Adventure Game Design Done Quick format, but as this show is now a 30ish minute format they had to change it to QuickeR (Hence the extra R). They design a game set on an island and discuss an article that Ron Gilbert wrote many many years ago.Ron Gilbert - Why Adventure Games Suck

The Secret of Monkey Island. The Secret of Monkey Island. fWotD Episode 2620: Tales of Monkey Island Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 7 July 2024 is Tales of Monkey Island.Tales of Monkey Island is a 2009 graphic adventure video game developed by Telltale Games under license from LucasArts. It is the fifth game in the Monkey Island series, released nearly a decade after the previous installment, Escape from Monkey Island. Developed for Windows and the Wii console, the game was released in five episodic segments, between July and December 2009. In contrast to Telltale's previous episodic adventure games, whose chapters told discrete stories, each chapter of Tales of Monkey Island is part of an ongoing narrative. The game was digitally distributed through WiiWare and Telltale's own website, and later through Steam and Amazon.com. Ports for OS X, the PlayStation Network, and iOS were released several months after the series ended.Players assume the role of pirate Guybrush Threepwood, who—while attempting to destroy his nemesis, the undead pirate LeChuck—accidentally releases a voodoo pox across the Gulf of Melange. With the assistance of his wife, Elaine Marley–Threepwood, Guybrush seeks out a cure. The game was conceived in late 2008, due to renewed interest in adventure game development within LucasArts. It was developed concurrently with LucasArts' special edition of the 1990 game The Secret of Monkey Island; LucasArts oversaw production of Tales of Monkey Island, and ensured that it matched the remake in certain areas, such as art direction. Production began in early 2009; franchise creator Ron Gilbert was involved in project planning, while development was led by Dave Grossman, who co-designed the first two Monkey Island games. The game's music was composed by Michael Land, and the core cast of The Curse of Monkey Island reprised their voice roles.Tales of Monkey Island received generally positive reviews. Critics praised the game's story, writing, humor, voice acting and characterization; 1UP.com described Guybrush as Telltale's strongest and most expressive character yet. The game's music and graphics were also lauded. Complaints focused primarily on the perceived erratic quality of the game's puzzle design, a weak supporting cast in the early chapters, and the game's control system. Tales of Monkey Island garnered several industry awards, and was Telltale's most commercially successful project until Back to the Future: The Game.A sixth entry in the franchise, Return to Monkey Island by publisher Devolver Digital, Lucasfilm Games and Terrible Toybox, was released on September 19, 2022.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:32 UTC on Sunday, 7 July 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Tales of Monkey Island on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Matthew.

The brothers round out the Adventure Puzzler category with Ron Gilbert's The Cave, developed by Double Fine Productions and published by Sega in January 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Steam. Pete and Tom were pleasantly surprised at Ant's recommendation this week. Ant enjoyed the cave's corny narration and Pete revealed his favorite puzzles were the ones where he had to be patient and do math. Pete also lists off some characters that didn't make it into the final game and continually refers to a sequel that was never made and almost certainly never will be. Director Ron Gilbert was also the co-founder of another game development studio, Humongous Entertainment, which focused on educational games geared towards kids in the 1990s. What was your favorite game from the studio? Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, or the Backyard Sports Series. 9/10 i spillbladet Edge = MUST PLAY. Peppy Castro - Blues Magoos - in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.peppycastro.com/about.html The Blues Magoos are an American rock group from The Bronx, a borough of New York City, United States. They were at the forefront of the psychedelic music trend, beginning in 1966. They are best known for the hit song "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet". The band was formed in 1964 as The Trenchcoats. The original members were Emil "Peppy" Thielhelm a.k.a. "Peppy" Castro (vocals and guitar), Dennis LePore (lead guitar), Ralph Scala (organ and vocals), Ron Gilbert (bass) and Jon Finnegan (drums). The band made a name for itself in various clubs in Greenwich Village. The band changed its name first to the Bloos Magoos and by 1966 to the Blues Magoos. Mike Esposito joined as lead guitarist and Geoff Daking as drummer.
It's been 11 years since the last proper Monkey Island entry, and more than three decades since series creator Ron Gilbert left Guybrush and company in the hands of others. So it goes without saying fans were more than delighted when mid-2022 saw the announcement of Return to Monkey Island, a proper sequel to 1991's Monkey Island 2—and one that somehow doesn't discount all the installments made in between. And now it's here! On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey and Nina Matsumoto as they set sail for yet another Monkey Island journey; but this time, it's to formerly uncharted waters. Retronauts is a completely fan-funded operation. To support the show, and get two full-length exclusive episodes every month, as well as access to 50+ previous bonus episodes, please visit the official Retronauts Patreon at patreon.com/retronauts.

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Return to Monkey Island director Ron Gilbert will no longer talk about the game online due to the amount of abuse he has received, particularly about its new art style. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, The world's first Elden Ring no-hit run recorded by YouTube user Seki completed the game in 2 hours and 43 minutes and without taking a single point of damage. Elden Ring fans are constantly finding new ways to play Elden Ring with some having found some pretty bizarre secrets such as a pair of fancy underwear and a hidden wall that only opens after 50 hits. Even the recent patch update has not stifled Elden Ring Speedrun as the fastest time now is 18 minutes and 58 seconds as of March 28th. Return to Monkey Island is a sequel to the legendary point 'n' click series, coming in 2022 from original writer-director Ron Gilbert. Return to Monkey Island brings back original co-writer Dave Grossman, and LucasArts composers Michael Land, Michael McConnell, and Clint Bajakian. Fans of The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and Escape from Monkey Island are sure to be excited for the sequel coming in 2022.
In January of 2013, Dr. Ron Gilbert was shot and killed in his office by a new patient who said his name was Allen Gold. Only he wasn't a new patient and his name was actually Stanwood Elkus. It had been 20 years since Dr. Gilbert originally diagnosed him, and Elkus was back for revenge. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
