It's got two Michael B Jordans, it's got epic musical sequences, it's got exquisite period detail, it's got spit sharing, it's got a smart and thorny race analogy at its heart, it's got great actors bringing their A game, it's got wonderful post-credit scenes and, did we mention, it's got two Michael B Jordans.  Similarly sexy and sweltering is Motel Destino, a neon-lit tropical noir from Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz. This week on Dish, Nick and Angela are joined by a powerhouse couple. Brian Cox is a renowned Scottish actor whose career spans more than six decades. Born in Dundee, he was classically trained before becoming a key figure in British theatre. Brian Cox made history as the first actor to portray Dr Hannibal Lecter on screen in Michael Mann's Manhunter in 1986. He went on to star in highly acclaimed films including Braveheart and The Bourne Identity.  On television, Brian Cox is now a cultural icon, thanks to his award-winning portrayal of media titan Logan Roy in Succession. Brian married his wife Nicole in 2002, and they have two sons. Nicole Ansari-Cox is an actor, director and producer. Born in Cologne, she began acting at the age of nine with a breakthrough role in the German crime series Tatort. Her career includes roles in TV shows such as Deadwood and Succession. Nicole frequently shares the stage with her husband, including their current performance in The Score at Theatre Royal Haymarket. Nick prepares the couple's favourite cocktail, a frozen margarita, to start while Angela prepares roast trout with soy, orange and chilli, based on a sweet and spicy salmon recipe from Waitrose. The experts at Waitrose pair this with an English white wine, Chapel Down Bacchus. This episode is one of those great Dish double dates. Brian and Nicole talk about their new play and its parallels with modern life. They share some hilarious insights into their marriage and Brian's eating habits, and treat us to some amazing anecdotes from the set of Succession. A well-placed song in a film holds the power to shape a viewer's emotions, heighten tension, set the tone, foreshadow events, provide insight into characters, or deepen the narrative. In essence, music is the heartbeat of the cinema that can elevate a film from good to sublime. Take it from someone who knows, like this week's Third Lad, Barry Andrews - he's had songs soundtracking pivotal moments in films such as Manhunter and Band of the Hand. Barry Andrews began his professional music career in the punk era lending his keyboard stylings to a little band that you may have heard of, XTC, giving them one of the most defining and distinctive features of their sound for their first two albums. After leaving XTC in 1979, he released a fine solo EP and single, formed the short lived Restaurant for Dogs, and played with Iggy Pop and Robert Fripp's League of Gentlemen before forming the band Shriekback with Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen and singer Carl Marsh in 1981. For the better part of the last 43 years, Barry has kept Shriekback alive through various incarnations, continuing to release music that's daring, experimental, and artful, as well as maintaining an ambitious and rewarding solo career. Ed, Pat, and Matt get right into the twisted world of serial killers and cannibalism by taking you through the surprisingly deep breadth of Hannibal content. From the first on-screen appearance of Thomas Harris's characters in Michael Mann's Manhunter all the way through the recent and exceptional series with Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal, Will Graham, and others are characters that have stood the test of time.

The Justice League has journeyed across space to help John Stewart in an intergalactic trial, and we're following along! The Manhunters, robotic lifeforms who were the precursors to the Green Lantern Corps, have come to Earth seeking out John Stewart. The League tries to stop them before John turns himself in.  He is then taken to an alien planet for judgement as he is accused of destroying a planet while doing his duty as a Lantern. Unfortunately he admits to his guilt of the crime. The League does not believe it.  Flash risks the death sentence to defend him. Superman & J'onn head to the destroyed planet's moon to seek out answers. Hawkgirl confronts the other Lanterns for their lack of support. It turns out the Manhunters are out for revenge against The Lanterns for taking their jobs and the Guardians for abandoning them. They orchestrated the situation to cause mistrust and dissention. Thanks to the League, John is acquitted. They must rush to OA to stop the attack by the Manhunters. A Manhunter takes the main Lantern Battery power. Thankfully John is able to save the day with his oath. James Majure returns to the pod from Athens, GA for a two-part episode on Michael Mann's Manhunter, a box office and critical disappointment in 1986 that has emerged over the decades into being extremely influential not only on Mann's future works but on film and television in general, from genre conventions to forensic procedurals on TV. In part 1, we discuss the various cuts of Manhunter in existence, the source material, Thomas Harris' bestselling novel Red Dragon, Mann's tremendous empathy towards all the characters in his adaptation, the ways Manhunter's themes keeps turning up in Mann's later works, and how the Miami Vice series seems to have been a test kitchen for a lot of Mann's preoccupations as a film stylist.  Plus: a Michael Mann update with the surprise arrival of The Keep to Bluray and the 25th anniversary of The Insider. The Home Invaders: Confessions of a Cat Burglar by Frank Hohimer (1975), a key text for the cinema of Michael Mann which has inspired many works including the forthcoming Heat 2, is available to read on Internet Archive. 1986 TV spot for Manhunter, 1986 Commercial for the network premiere of Manhunter on NBC, 1989 Trailer for Red Dragon (Brett Rather, 2002)
