After a prolonged break, we're back! And, to make up for lost time, Mike Rich and Steve are covering NINE new releases as well as our usual Short Shot and DTV Throwback. Click the links on each to see the trailer and more! We kick off with the biggest film, HAVOC - Gareth Evans' long awaited feature following his series Gangs of London. After being so long in gestation, can it live up to the anticipation? Next is BLACK CAB (Acorn Media International), in which Nick Frost terrorises a young couple held captive in the back of his taxi. APE x MECHA APE: NEW WORLD ORDER is an Asylum "mockbuster", riding the coat-tails of the bigger Legendary franchise - but does it hold its own? EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE (High Fliers Films) is yet another take on the home invasion trope, with a couple of twists to the genre - but are they enough to make this stand out from the pack? GATES OF FLESH (4 Digital Media) is a low budget end of the world movie in which a group of friends hide out in a church as people are being possessed by demons outside.... GLADIATORS (High Fliers Films) is another Asylum mockbuster - but again, one which might be entertaining in its own right? MOB COPS (High Fliers Films)- although the title suggests a Simpsons parody this is a tale of corrupt cops getting in deep with the mafia, and the honest cop on their tail. RUMPLESTILTSKIN (Miracle Media) is an adult re-telling of the fairytale - but exactly who is its audience mean to be? Our Short Shot is THE MISERABLE MISFORTUNES OF MY MARVELOUS MASTER, a love letter to the likes of Stephen Chow! Click the link to watch the whole short film! Our DTV Throwback is AMERICAN SAMURAI - this is a "director's cut" of the film and is available to watch for free on YouTube - click the link to see the whole film! Follow the Short Shots on X (formerly Twitter) where you will find hundreds of links to awesome short films! Don't forget to also check out our main show, the DTV DIGEST on X and FACEBOOK! Dan and Dennis Dennis Hill, co-founder of Langhart & Hill Wines joins Steve Jaxon and Dan Berger on California Wine Country today. The last time he was on California Wine Country was this episode in September of 2023. The first tasting is a 2023 Chardonnay. While a lot of California Chards are the heavy oaky buttery ML style, this is different. It is more in the European style, higher acidity and better for pairing with food. They use high quality grapes from Sonoma County so there are a lot of fruit flavors in it. Dennis Hill and his wife were both raised in Healdsburg. There was a Renaissance in the wine industry in the 1970s when he was starting in the business – right place, right time. Healdsburg is located at the confluence of the Dry Creek River and the Russian River. That puts it at the intersection of three main viticultural areas, Dry Creek, Anderson Valley and Russian River Valley. In the northern part of this region the afternoons are hotter and in the southern part, it is cooler and foggier. Where to find Langhart & Hill wines Langhart & Hill wines are available in restaurants and some retail locations. They do not have a tasting room. Their production is still rather small for that. After working for some very large wineries with complicated operations and relationships, Dennis enjoys being able to work by himself. Their vineyards are located in the different climate zones described, so there is a four-week window for them to harvest everything. Dennis describes their two brands. Landhart & Hill are classic Sonoma County varieties, a Chard, two Pinot Noirs, a Rosé and a Merlot. They also have another label, Rumplestiltskin, which is for the less common varieties. For instance, today there is a Dobricic, a Croation variety, and an Orange wine, made of Trouseau Gris grapes originally from the Jura region in France. Trousseau is a Gris variety, not purely a white grape. Wine grapes come in three colors, black, aka red, white and gris, meaning gray. There is also Trousseau Noir. It's a tricky grape to use. You have to harvest not too soon or too late. Then, if you want Orange wine, you have to leave it on the skins just long enough.

This week, Reverend Ken Daigle uses the Rumplestiltskin fairy tale to explore how we find inner strength and transform life's "straw" into "gold." Reverend Ken connects the story to Unity principles, emphasizing that while "things may happen around you, things may happen to you," as Eric Butterworth taught, our power lies in "what happens within you." This talk was recorded live at Unity San Francisco on February 9th, 2025.

It's the very 100 and 31st episode of Forsaken Cinema Podcast!!! We keep our theme “Holiday Hell” jingling along with “Event Horizon”. The gruesomely gory cult classic from 1997 that poses hell as a chaos dimension discovered by a doomed spaceship that can travel through space time and will be invented (according to the movie) in just about 15 years from now. Lol. Anyways, this is mostly just Chuck rambling about a bunch of bts stuff and both hosts talking about how they love every scene, scene by scene. Still, though, had a ton of fun, especially with Mel's review of “Rumplestiltskin” from 1995 in the opening segment. Go get it, freaks!!! ——— Available wherever you get your podcasts. The classic story of a cursed item shop where the proprietor doesn't want to sell items, shouldn't sell items, and does anyway, then gets mad that you bought them. It's probably a metaphor for capitalism somehow, but I haven't quite figured it out yet.

In some of her books, Laura Burges writes about addiction, which she sees as a metaphor for the craving we all experience that leads to suffering. To counter this, the dharma, much like recovery, is passed from person to person. In this talk, she examines the fable of Rumplestiltskin and how greed and craving can take hold of us like a curse or a spell. By facing our demons and naming them, we break their power to control us or diminish our courage, integrity and potential. She points out that the tale also refers to family karma passed on over generations, much like addiction can be. ______________ Ryuko Laura Burges, a lay-entrusted dharma teacher in the Soto Zen tradition, lectures and leads retreats at practice centers in Northern California. At long last, this week the randomizer wraps up Patreon Request Month 2023 by going all the way back to 2012 to pick Nick F's request for an episode of the OTHER project titled "Once Upon A (something)" that first aired on ABC in which Disney tried to cram every last Disney character onscreen together. Specifically a season one episode that had the bold vision to say, "hey, remember when Disney retold a tale as old as time so absolutely perfectly that it became the first-ever animated feature nominated for Best Picture? We can probably do it better." They failed of course, but along the way they sure did give us an episode chock full of stupid character names, bad CGI backgrounds, annoying maniacal cackling, slutty goth waitresses, sneezing pharmacists, the kidnapping and excessive caning of a drinkware thief, and what the hell, a scene where a human being gets turned into a flower. Dennis Hill, co-founder of Langhart and Hill wines, joins Steve Jaxon on California Wine Country. Larry Van Aalst is in for Dan Berger, who is travelling this weekend. Larry has had a long career in wine, he was an educator and a Sommelier and worked in the university and junior college and with PBS, all related to wine. He even worked in the prune harvest back when that was the dominant fruit in Sonoma County. This 2023 vintage is Dennis' 51st as a professional winemaker. His first job in winemaking was working for the late Ed Seghesio. He grew up on his family's property just south of Healdsburg, on the border between Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley AVAs. It was a prune and apple farm but in the 1970s they replaced most of the prunes and apples with wine grapes. Rosés made of Bordeaux Grapes are Great They are tasting a Rosé made of Merlot, which Larry really likes. Dennis calls is “racy” and it has a deeper color than most Rosés these days. He wanted his to have a little more depth of flavor, so he leaves it on the skins and uses Merlot. Rosé is not just seasonal anymore, They are also tasting a Chardonnay is about the flavors of the fruit, not the oak. It's all older and neutral wood. It is complex and without any of that annoying buttery oaky flavors. Click the logo to visit our sponsor Bottle Barn online for the coolest bargains on wine, beer and spirits. These wines are available at Bottle Barn. They don't have a tasting room and are just building their sales in the marketplace. They only make about 350-400 cases per year, mostly to restaurants and selected local retail, including Bottle Barn. Click the logo to visit our sponsor Rodney Strong for the latest on the winery and event calendar. They also make another line of wines called Rumplestiltskin, which is dedicated to unusual varieties not usually encountered. They make an orange wine and an Appassimento, and a Croatian variety called Dobricic. The Appassimento is very interesting. It is a northern Italian style where they dry the grapes before pressing them, which makes a unique flavor. Amarone is the name of one kind of wine made this way.
Just as you MUST learn addition and subtraction before you can move on to algebra and calculus, you can't experience your true radiance until you understand what the sun is made of. “The darkness is the source of our fears and the home of the gods.” is a quote by Idris Parry in his article “Kafka, Rilke, and Rumplestiltskin”. Everybody knows Rumpelstiltskin's name, but what if there's more to his story? On RUMPELSTILTSKIN, composer Marti Epstein reimagines the classic fairy tale as a sympathetic opera, transforming the titular character into a tragic figure to propose that villains are made, rather than born. Guerilla Opera, conducted by Jeffrey Means, brings the alternate version to life across six scenes, deftly conveying the emotions and motivations of each character as they interpret Epstein's carefully crafted soundscapes of shifting harmonic palettes and interweaving rhythmic pulses. For complete information on this album, please visit Rumpelstiltskin – Navona RecordsClassical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber and Apple Classical. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) staff@classicalmusicdiscoveries.com
We finally did it. Or rather, Rachel finally did it. She finally watched Once Upon a Time. And it was all for Killian Jones. JUST LIKE HE DESERVES. Happy birthday to Lauren, while this episode is basically sorting David, Rumpelstiltskin and Killian Jones (or as they're more commonly know, Prince Charming, the Dark One and Captain Hook) it's really ONLY the Killian Jones episode. Because it's Lauren's birthday, and she's in love with him. No joke. Stay away from him. Anyway, these house choices were VERY obvious to us, but what about you? Did you enjoy hearing about why Killian is the way he is for an hour and a half? Let us know, we'll spend more time talking about him, and we'll like it. It's fine. Rachel will go this feral next year when we sort Stranger Things. Being unhinged is healthy.
