I teach people how to get things done, however, I often meet people who say they have difficult motivating themselves or that they feel stuck. The problem might be mindset related, and the wrong mindset can be a productivity killer!

Terms come in and out of popularity, and right now the word system is having a moment in the productivity, goal-setting world. I'm here to demystify this word. A system is just a collection of actions that you do to get a desired result.⚙️ Like following a recipe to bake a cake.In this episode, I talk about the importance and value of setting up a system for your self-care, because only when you take care of yourself can you show up as your best self in all parts of your life. ☺️⚙️Resources mentioned in this podcast:-Start my life design course "Harness the Power of Planning" now! http://tinyurl.com/hpopondemand-Website: BYWDreams.com (http://BYWDreams.com) -Our books: TinyURL.com/BYWDbooks (http://TinyURL.com/BYWDbooks)-Our life-design course: BYWDreams.mailerpage.com/hpop (http://BYWDreams.mailerpage.com/hpop)

At the top of every podcast, I pull a card from a deck of inspirational quotes I have. This week's was from Edgar Magnin: "You are the one who can stretch your own horizon..."I spoke about how my passion for stand-up comedy has stretched me in so many ways.

In my opinion, one of the hardest parts about parenting is knowing when to give your kiddo an extra push and knowing when to "back off". There's not a lot of black and white here, just lots and lots of gray!In this episode, I chat with my friend Kim, mom and college admission counselor, on one of the biggest days of her professional (and personal) world: College Decision Day. Plot twist: her eldest son is still making up his mind and may end up choosing a different school than the one he'd planned to accept just a few days ago.

I saw this great illustration on LinkedIn (see link below) that distinguished between two types of burn-out. The first illustration was straight forward and you can see my reply to it below, but the second one depicted a phenomenon I would characterize as "living a life without purpose/passion". I will refer to this as feeling "extinguished" since the flame goes out in the illustration. If you are feeling "extinguished" or like life doesn't have purpose, I would suggest you consider the words of Socrates who said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." How can one life a life full of joy, purpose, and passion if one hasn't examined what one needs to feel those things? That's like getting into a boat and expecting it to get you somewhere you want to be without a course or a compass and maybe without even a destination (gasp!) What are the odds you would end up somewhere good without any of those things. What's the solution? Life design which I discuss in this podcast.
Camping is GOOD FOR YOU! It's been shown to help improve sleep, breathing, and reset from the business of modern life. Even better? Camping with friends!
Most people don't achieve their goals (92% footnote 1). Perhaps it's because they don't set them at all. I've heard that most people don't set goals (perhaps as high as 80%) and that even fewer write them down (I've heard from 3-10%).In my experience, the big disconnect between what people want to achieve and actually achieving it centers around the fact that people haven't learned how to think strategically about the steps required to work towards their goals. In this 100th episode (!) of my podcast, we address this issue with examples to help you understand how you might break a goal down into its parts.Part 3: My friend Christine shares her thoughts on the first two parts and then we talk about her goal to raise resilient children. I love this goal not only because it's very relatable, but also because of it's "ephemeral" nature. I give her some ideas on how to make it more concrete and easier to implement on a daily basis.Website:BYWDreams.comOur books: TinyURL.com/BYWDbooksOur life-design course: BYWDreams.mailerpage.com/hpopFootnote 1. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2980864/

My goal is not to turn you into a productivity robot. I don't want to show you how to do more things, I want to show you how to do more of what matters to you. In part two I explain the 70% rule of success. In our world of excess, it's a common assumption that you have to "give it your all" to be successful. I've found this not to be true and -- in fact -- counterproductive. Seventy-percent is accessible and sustainable!
My goal is not to turn you into a productivity robot. I don't want to show you how to do more things, I want to show you how to do more of what matters to you. That's what I mean by "kind productivity".

This is a rebroadcast of one of my most listened to episodes ever, episode 10 from March 2017. Time flies. The format of my podcast was a little different back then, but I think this episode has something for everyone. In part one I discuss an anger management strategy I came up with that has helped smooth over our family's communication for over a decade.
Save time and energy on MULTIPLE fronts by practicing Keystone Habits. I'll explain what are they and why are they such a powerful tool in your tool belt.
It seems like AI is everything, everywhere, all at once. However, environmental impact aside (it's not good by the way), some people are promoting it as a way to plan. I discuss why this is completely counterproductive (kind of like asking AI to exercise for you!)

You've heard me talk about friends as self-care. Well, the ULTIMATE form of this is a girl's trip with my mom besties whom I've known since long before we were moms (or even adults!)Some of my closest friends no longer live near more or even in the same state. Summer might feel far away, but planning for vacations and summer activities needs to start happening now!
We have access to so many more options today when we go shopping, and convenience and price have long been key factors in where we spend our money, but that's had consequences. Our family has decided to spend our money with retailers who are aligned with our values and we've had to change how we shop because of that.

On this episode, we discuss teaching our kiddos skills such as empathy, compassion, and critical thinking. Some of us are born with them, but for the rest of us...we need to learn them. As parents, how can we ensure our kiddos will learn these important EQ skills? Modeling, books, conversations, we chat about how we've used these with our own children.
We are surrounded by screens, but are we using them or are they using us? On today's episode we talk about the boundaries our families practice to ensure that our devices, phones, computers are working for us and not against us.

Self-care is figuring out what makes you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally taken care of, and then inserting that into your life as regularly as possible. In this episode, I talk about the things big and small that I know I like because often they make my face hurt from smiling so hard: mahjong with friends, hiking with friends, dancing with friends.

The beginning of the year is always a popular time to start something new. This is part of a psychological phenomenon known as the "Fresh Start Effect." In this episode, I'll give you three steps to maximize the "Fresh Start Effect" to help you kick-start whatever it is you want: a new job, writing a book, improving your health.
