Alan Webb is an American middle-distance runner who is celebrated for holding the record for the fastest mile run by an American. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and raised in Reston, Virginia, Webb first gained national prominence in high school when he broke the 4-minute mile, setting a new high school record. He attended the University of Michigan but later transferred to Portland State University, where he continued to excel in track and field.Webb's crowning achievement came in 2007 when he set the American record in the mile with a time of 3:46.91, a record that still stands. Over his career, Webb participated in numerous international competitions, including the Olympics. His aggressive running style and ability to peak at major meets earned him a loyal fan base.
