" If we're gonna ask, it needs to have something, we need to know what we're gonna do with it. Because when people know that they're supposed to ask for feedback about stuff, but they actually have no plan to incorporate any of the ideas that they get. That contributes to, you know, just this feeling of like, well, this is a checkbox, like this is a performative ask."Karen & Paul talk about how to handle feedback effectively, emphasizing the importance of having a plan for it. They stress that feedback should be solicited only if there's a genuine intention to use the information. They explore the negative impact of performative feedback requests and the importance of closing the feedback loop, either by implementing suggestions or by explaining why certain feedback won't be acted upon, to maintain trust and credibility.

In this episode of Volunteer Nation Podcast, Tobi Johnson welcomes back Amira Barger, award-winning communications executive, educator, and author of The Price of Nice: Why Comfort Keeps Us Stuck and Four Actions for Real Change. Together, they explore how “niceness” often operates as a form of social control, especially in workplaces, nonprofits, and volunteer-driven organizations, and why prioritizing comfort can come at a steep cost to individuals, teams, and missions. This conversation challenges leaders to rethink performative politeness and replace it with courage, clarity, and values-aligned action. If you've ever held back from speaking up to avoid rocking the boat, this episode will resonate deeply.Full show notes: 194. The investigation into Jeffrey Epstein in the United Kingdom has widely been criticized as superficial, fragmented, and structurally incapable of delivering accountability, giving the appearance of due diligence without the substance. Despite extensive public reporting, survivor testimony, flight records, and Epstein's documented ties to British elites, UK authorities repeatedly framed their involvement as limited “reviews” rather than full criminal investigations. The Metropolitan Police acknowledged receiving material related to Epstein multiple times over the years, yet consistently concluded there were no viable lines of inquiry—without ever clearly explaining what investigative steps were actually taken, who was interviewed, or why obvious avenues were deemed unworkable. This approach created the impression of a process designed to close doors rather than open them, insulating powerful figures from scrutiny while allowing law enforcement to claim procedural neutrality.Critics argue the UK response fits a familiar Epstein pattern: jurisdictional buck-passing, narrow evidentiary thresholds, and a studied reluctance to confront allegations that intersect with wealth, royalty, and international influence. Survivors and transparency advocates have pointed out that Epstein operated transnationally, recruited victims across borders, and maintained properties and contacts tied to the UK—yet no serious effort was made to map that network or test allegations in a courtroom. Instead, decisions not to pursue cases were quietly announced long after public attention peaked, reinforcing the sense that the outcome was predetermined. In this context, the UK investigation is often described less as a failed probe and more as a managed outcome—one that preserved institutional comfort, avoided diplomatic embarrassment, and left the core questions about Epstein's British connections unresolved and untouched.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

This week on Motherish, we're calling out the curated chaos of performative mom culture: the pressure to look perfect, patient, and pulled-together while we're actually surviving on caffeine and vibes. We break down how social media shapes our expectations, why it messes with our confidence, and what it really means to be authentic in motherhood. A reminder we all need: the mess is real… and so is the magic.
In this episode, Dave Thompson, CFI sits down with Michael Reddington, CFI to break down five of the biggest misconceptions about communication — in the interrogation room, the boardroom, and everywhere in between. From the myths of “control,” “rapport,” and “active listening” to the flawed belief that people owe us the truth, Dave and Mike unpack how these assumptions quietly sabotage influence. Together, they reveal the real skills that build trust, uncover information, and create better outcomes in high-stakes conversations. It was a tale of two cities over consecutive weekends that got this conversation going. Wayne shares about his experience with former 2x2 members in the South, and then he went with Sara to their 50th college reunion at Oral Roberts University. As Wayne processes those experiences with Kyle, they find themselves contrasting performative Christianity to a doctrine or program and a transformational journey that comes from an ever-deepening engagement with God's love. As part of that conversation, they read through Psalm 15 as it describes the company of the just, where God wants to make his presence known. HELLOOOO & welcome back to another episode of MOMENT OF SILENCE
Ansley Hutchinson, Tess Menzies, and Gabe Sanchez, from the Boredwalk content team reunite to discuss all the most recent salacious scandals marring the U.S. political landscape (and distracting from the FULL, UN-REDACTED RELEASE OF THE EPSTEIN FILES), including: • The very cozy public embraces between very married (and very "Christian") Vice President J.D. Vance and very recently widowed (and very "Christian") trad-wife Erika Kirk, and Second Lady Usha Vance's apparently sanguine acceptance of being publicly cuckqueaned • The state of the U.S. economy heading into the busiest shopping season of the year (spoiler alert: it's suboptimal!) • Mass layoffs in the private sector and the ongoing shutdown of the federal government impacting spending power and consumer confidence • Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's ongoing refusal to swear in recently-elected U.S. Representative Adelita Grijalva in a thinly-veiled attempt to keep the aforementioned Epstein Files from being released • Trump's shoulder shrugging over his own supporters losing access to SNAP benefits and facing the specter of exploding health insurance costs come January 1st 2026 as a result of the expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies that the GOP's One Big Beautiful Bill does not renew • The gross inhumanity of wealthier members of the MAGA movement celebrating and mocking other people — including fellow MAGA voters — who can no longer afford groceries due to the frozen SNAP benefits We then check in with the latest dispatch from Troll-sylvania, which features Kenny Murdoch's hilarious "insult" wherein he accuses us of making "AI" content because our teeth are "too perfect," because he simply cannot fathom a world in which regular dental visits, braces, Invisalign, and basic oral hygiene are a thing that exist. Not only do we have impeccable dental situations, we also design and sell high-quality vinyl stickers, per a recent customer review. Nice! A matcha in hand… a tote bag slung over the shoulder… black nail polish neatly applied… a carefully styled mullet… and a copy of Sally Rooney peeking from his back pocket. That's the look of the so-called performative man. In the past few weeks, this character has turned into a full-blown meme, with videos racking up millions of views. On the surface, he checks all the boxes of a deconstructed man. But in reality, he often represents a slickly packaged version of masculinity 2.0. What does that mean, exactly? So how can you spot the difference between performance and sincerity? So how do you actually become an ally without overdoing it? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! What does it mean to be good? It's a little word that carries a lot of weight for many of us. Be a good girl. Be a good friend. Be a good leader. Do good.Good can sound like praise, but become a cage of expectations and shoulds, a performance that chips away at our authenticity. Good is no longer something we are, but is how others see us. It leads us to people please and keep the peace at all costs. And that's especially true for women. All too often, when women are in leadership, their goodness is measured by how they make others feel–good, comfortable, understood. All of that matters. But when the measure of leadership becomes how comfortable other people feel around us, we lose something essential. We perform and manage emotions instead of building trust and respect. We seek to be liked and to fit in at the cost of real integrity and effectiveness. And likability is oh-so fleeting.Respect, integrity, and true belonging take time and discomfort to build, but they last.My guest today has written beautifully and bravely about the cost of being good, the truth of belonging, and the courage it takes to lead ourselves and others through discomfort.Elise Loehnen is the New York Times bestselling author of On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to be Good and the host of the podcast, Pulling the Thread, where she interviews cultural luminaries about the big questions of today, including people like Joy Harjo, John and Julie Gottman, Dr. Gabor Maté, and Esther Perel. In addition to On Our Best Behavior, she is the author of a corresponding workbook—Choosing Wholeness Over Goodness—with coach Courtney Smith (July 2025), and the co-author of True & False Magic, with legendary psychiatrist Phil Stutz. Elise lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Rob, and their sons, Max and Sam.Listen to the full episode to hear:How Elise traced the cultural roots of the “good woman” back to early Christianity and the many additions, erasures, and mistranslations of Biblical storiesWhy we need to pay attention to our envy and how it shows up in relation to other womenHow envy, pride, and greed fuel each other and the ways we stay small and tear other women downHow social media has heightened the risk of reputational damage and changed how women work and lead, for better and worseWhy we latch onto ideas of goodness and purity more deeply in times of greater uncertaintyHow current narratives about the “natural” order are ahistorical manipulations that limit what we believe is possibleLearn more about Elise Loehnen:WebsitePulling the Thread on SubstackInstagram: @eliseloehnenOn Our Best Behavior: The Price Women Pay to Be GoodChoosing Wholeness Over Goodness: A Process for Reclaiming Your Full SelfTrue and False Magic: A Tools WorkbookLearn more about Rebecca:rebeccaching.comWork With RebeccaThe Unburdened Leader on SubstackSign up for the weekly Unburdened Leader EmailResources:Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone, Brené BrownEP 123: Befriending Your Nervous System: Building Capacity for Regulation with Deb DanaThe Intrinsic Order that Emerges from Within Chaos (Elinor Dickson, PhD)Dancing in the Flames: The Dark Goddess in the Transformation of Consciousness, Elinor Dickson and Marion Woodman EP 88: Right-Use-of-Power: Navigating Leadership Dynamics with Dr. Cedar BarstowEP 125: Power, Regulation, and Leadership: Connecting to Your Personal Power with Dr. Amanda AguileraThe Reprioritization of Relationship (Lori Gottlieb)Maybe You Should Talk To Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed, Lori GottliebLessons from Hollywood's Most Powerful Woman—And How They Can Help You (with Donna Langley) | Aspire with Emma GredeAnswer to Job, Carl JungAion: Researches Into the Phenomenology of the Self, Carl JungThe Science of Magic: How the Mind Weaves the Fabric of Reality, Dean Radin PhDMistakes Were Made (but Not By Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts, Carol Tavris and Elliot AronsonSigur Rós - YouTubeJónsi - YouTubeLove IslandThe Gilded AgeMaidenStutz
Performative masculinity refers to a man who adopts traits associated with feminism and emotional sensitivity—such as drinking matcha lattes, carrying tote bags with feminist slogans, wearing wired headphones, listening to indie female artists like Clairo or Lana Del Rey, and reading feminist literature—to appear more appealing to progressive women. So how does this harm women? FunkyFrogBait has the answer!
There's a kind of faith that performs instead of worships, and eventually, that kind of faith breaks down. This week on Win Today, Paul and Hannah McClure from Bethel Music join me to talk about the slow drift from softness to cynicism in the life of a believer. We talk about the orphan spirit, fake faith that looks right but can't hold weight, and how disappointment left untreated eventually hardens into disconnection. We also confront the myth that faith equals certainty, and why true worship isn't just a song; it's surrender in the absence of clarity. For anyone who's battled disillusionment in church, questioned the language of worship, or wondered whether they're singing words they don't believe anymore, this conversation offers both confrontation and comfort. Paul and Hannah don't sugarcoat the road. But they do point to healing. This isn't about emotional hype. It's about reclaiming your heart before it turns cold. You'll learn: Why disappointment often precedes cynicism What the orphan spirit really is—and how it forms How fake faith is often learned, not chosen Why worship without surrender is just noise How to walk with God when certainty disappears Guest Bio Paul and Hannah McClure are worship leaders, songwriters, and pastors with Bethel Music. Known for their vulnerability, depth, and refusal to perform, their ministry helps people reconnect with a God who isn't afraid of pain. They've led a generation to encounter God through honesty, not hype. Their story is one of surrender, resilience, and the long journey back from burnout, cynicism, and emotional numbness. How to Split a Toaster: A divorce podcast about saving your relationships
Looking in the Mirror: Finding Self-Awareness Through DivorceFamily law attorney Seth Nelson and Pete Wright welcome Lionel Moses, a Desert Storm veteran and relationship coach who helps people break unhealthy relationship patterns through what he calls "the mirror effect." This powerful episode of How to Split a Toaster explores how divorce can become a catalyst for essential self-discovery and growth. The Mirror Effect in RelationshipsDrawing from his experiences through two divorces, Lionel shares how seeing himself as the common denominator led to transformative insights about relationship patterns. As a self-described "people pleaser," he discovered that his tendency to fix others' problems masked deeper emotional needs that went unaddressed in his marriages.Breaking Cycles Through Self-AwarenessSeth brings his legal expertise to the conversation, highlighting how emotional readiness impacts divorce proceedings. When clients focus exclusively on their former spouse's behavior rather than their own growth, it often complicates and extends the legal process. The discussion reveals how self-awareness can lead to more constructive co-parenting relationships and healthier future partnerships. From Performance to AuthenticityLionel's concept of "performative relationships" resonates throughout the conversation, as he describes moving from seeking external validation to developing genuine self-love. This transformation enabled him to build more authentic connections and achieve amicable co-parenting relationships—a goal many find challenging during divorce.Key Insights• Examine your patterns in relationships rather than focusing solely on your partner's behavior• Develop emotional resilience by understanding your authentic needs versus performative habits• Build self-awareness before entering new relationships to break recurring relationship cyclesThis episode offers invaluable guidance for anyone navigating divorce or seeking healthier relationship patterns. Through Lionel's candid sharing and Seth's legal wisdom, listeners gain practical tools for self-reflection and personal growth during major life transitions.Whether you're considering divorce, in the midst of proceedings, or rebuilding after separation, this conversation provides a roadmap for using life's challenges as opportunities for transformation and healing.Links & NotesFind Lionel on his website, LinkedIn, Facebook, InstagramCheck out The Marriage SeedSchedule a consult with Seth (00:00) - Welcome to How to Split a Toaster (00:26) - Meet Lionel Moses (00:58) - What Is the Mirror Effect?
