Many high-functioning women carry an invisible weight in leadership. The expectation to always be grounded, wise, and regulated can quietly turn leadership into performance. In this episode of The Couragecast, I share an honest reflection on the exhaustion that comes from always feeling like you're "on" — and the subtle ways leadership can become curated, controlled, and disconnected from who we really are. We explore the difference between performative leadership and embodied leadership, and why nervous system regulation, self trust, and authenticity are essential for sustainable leadership. If you've even felt pressure to hold it all together while quietly feeling depleted inside, this conversation offers permission to soften, reconnect with your truth, and lead from alignment rather than performance. Key Takeaways: Why high-functioning women often fall into performative leadership The hidden nervous system cost of always being the strong one How internal and external alignment builds real trust A short practice to release pressure and connect with yourself Work With Me: Coffee + Connect: A relaxed space for meaningful conversation with other thoughtful women navigating leadership, growth, and life. The Government's migration and asylum plans have had that unique Keir Starmer way of annoying everyone. Including many of their own MPs, such as Walthamstow's Stella Creasy. She says her party is now asking people to live in “limbo” and that the new policy change is not “socially just”. She joins the panel to explain why. And in the second half, monsters are everywhere (including politics). But what is a monster? Why do humans keep inventing them — and what does that say about us? Dr Surekha Davies' new book Humans: A Monstrous History, explores all of that, and she joins the panel to give her take. ESCAPE ROUTES: • Jonn has been reading the work of Iain M. Trust feels more fragile than ever right now, and I believe leaders are being asked to navigate change, uncertainty, and higher expectations in ways we have not seen before. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Melissa Robinson-Winemiller, EQ expert, TEDx speaker, and author of The Empathic Leader, to talk about empathy as a practical leadership skill that builds trust, improves culture, and drives results.Melissa helped me broaden how I think about empathy. It is not only about “feeling what someone feels.” She explains emotional empathy, cognitive empathy, and self-empathy, and why leaders can take another person's perspective even if they do not experience the same emotions. We also talk about the difference between real empathy and performative empathy, and why curiosity is one of the clearest signals that empathy is genuine. One of my favorite moments was hearing her simple leadership reminder: trust is often built through visibility and small actions, one person at a time. If you lead a team, manage from the middle, or you are stepping into leadership for the first time, this conversation will give you both insight and real-world tools you can use immediately.Key takeawaysEmpathy is both a gift and a skill. You can learn it, practice it, and get better at it over time.Cognitive empathy matters. You can understand someone's perspective without taking on all the feelings, which helps prevent burnout.Trust is built through visibility and consistency. Culture forms in the everyday moments when people are watching what leaders do.Performative empathy is self-focused. Genuine empathy is other-focused and includes curiosity.Empathy and judgment cannot exist in the same space. The more we compare through our own lens, the harder it is to truly empathize. You can find Melissa at:https://eqviaempathy.com/melissa.a.robinson@gmail.comIn appreciation for being here, I have some gifts for you:A LinkedIn Checklist for setting up your fully optimized Profile:An opportunity to test drive the Follow Up system I recommend by checking this presentation page - you won't regret it.AND … Don't forget to connect with me on LinkedIn and be eligible for my complimentary LinkedIn profile audit – I do one each month for a lucky listener!Connect with me:http://JanicePorter.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/janiceporter/https://www.facebook.com/janiceporter1https://www.instagram.com/socjanice/Thanks for listening! Thanks so much for listening to our podcast! In our newest episode, we dive into the works of Mads Brügger. The Danish journalist and filmmaker stands out with his provocative films about investigations into dictatorships or neo-colonial exploitations. We sit down to discuss two of his most notable films: "The Mole" (2020) and "The Ambassador" (2011). Both are defined by "performative journalism," putting Brügger himself right into the story.

Identity is louder than ever — yet steadiness feels rare.In Episode 157 of the Slay Podcast, Olympian and CEO Louise Hazel explores why the world needs strong women right now. This conversation moves beyond fitness into leadership, embodiment, emotional regulation, and the clean use of power. When identity lives in performance, it requires constant reinforcement. When it lives in the body, it shows up in behavior. Strength anchors values in action. It creates safety through consistency. It changes how power is expressed inside families, teams, relationships, and communities. This episode explores:• Performative identity vs. embodied identity• How strength creates emotional safety• The difference between power and strength• Why restraint is rare — and powerful• How strength training builds steadiness under pressure • Why strong women matter more than everStrength is not dominance. It is the ability to hold weight without creating chaos. If you're building physical strength, emotional resilience, or grounded leadership — this episode is for you.
Why are land acknowledgements now mandatory at almost every public event in Canada - and what are they actually accomplishing?Michael Westcott, CEO of Allies for a Strong Canada, joins Stephen LeDrew to challenge the idea that land acknowledgements are harmless or meaningless gestures. Westcott explains why these statements are not merely symbolic, but increasingly being used by activists, institutions, and courts to justify real-world political and legal outcomes. The conversation explores why so many Canadians privately disagree with performative rituals but feel pressured to comply, how conformity has replaced common sense in public institutions, and why speaking up now matters more than ever. This is a discussion about civic courage - asking what problem we are trying to solve, refusing to say things we don't believe, and understanding that most Canadians have not shifted nearly as much as they are told they have.

A checkbox approach to inclusion creates shallow progress—and people feel it. In this episode, Sacha Thompson talks with Rolando Talbot about what it takes to build workplaces where inclusion is treated like a business function, not a side initiative. We dig into inclusion as “business DNA,” why it matters for performance and culture, and how teams can create environments where neurodiverse employees (and everyone else) can thrive—without performative efforts that fade when things get hard. Is Lent actually a historic Christian practice… or did we just turn it into a 40 day sugar detox? In this episode, the guys unpack what Lent really is, what it means, and why Christians have observed it for centuries. They talk about the church calendar, fasting, repentance, spiritual discipline, and why the number 40 keeps showing up in Scripture. It is less about chocolate and more about formation. They also get honest about how Lent plays out in modern church culture. Is it meaningful? Performative? Confusing? Somewhere in between? This conversation looks at faith, leadership, family rhythms, and everyday discipleship without assuming everyone listening grew up with ashes on their forehead. Nate and Dr. Joseph Tillman approach the topic the way they approach everything else. Thoughtful. A little sarcastic. Not impressed by religious busywork. Curious about what actually shapes people over time. It is theology, but grounded in real life and real questions Christians and skeptics both tend to ask. Follow or subscribe to the podcast

On this week's episode, Sarah is asking if the horrendous case of Gisele Pelicot is more than just an isolated incident and Peter wants to know why our boys in blue have settled on performative policing. Plus, why has it taken Sarah over a year to realise she's been wearing her contact lenses in the wrong eyes? The parlous state of children's fiction in the modern age and why Peter will be getting a motorbike (and leather biker jacket) as soon as he reaches eighty. If you've ever whispered to the universe, "pls can I just have… a handful of dreamy, aligned enquiries this week?" and then refreshed your Instagram insights like it's the stock market… this episode is for you. Because wellness business owners are a very specific breed. We're intuitive. We're values-led. We work with real humans who are going through real stuff. And because of that, a lot of the generic marketing advice out there makes us recoil. It feels forced. Performative. A bit… "hi hun, wanna triple your income in 7 days?" (Absolutely not.) So instead, we swing the other way. We post when we feel inspired. We wait for the nudge. We follow the vibe. And we cross our fingers that this reel, this email, this post will be the one that magically brings the enquiries in. That's what I'm calling hope-based marketing. It looks aligned, but it creates chaos. It keeps you in reactive mode. It makes you panic when engagement dips and you feel like you've "lost your spark." It's the marketing equivalent of trying to drive a car by manifesting petrol. In this episode, I'm breaking down what it looks like to move out of hope and into something calmer, steadier, and far more predictable without turning into a sales robot. We talk about why engagement is not a reliable indicator of business growth (your nervous system thinks it is, but it isn't). Why you're probably making decisions way too quickly based on 24-hour metrics. Why "organic only" can become a weird badge of honour that quietly keeps you stuck. And why the goal isn't to post more, grind harder, or blame the algorithm… it's to build systems that keep your business ticking along even when life is doing what life does best: chucking nonsense at you at the worst possible time. You'll also hear me share how I want you to think more like a CEO, less like a stressed-out practitioner who's constantly trying to fix the month in real time. We go into what strategic marketing actually looks like in practice: planning in cycles, warming your audience up properly, using data that matters (enquiries, clicks, conversions… not "someone I went to school with saved my post"), and focusing on calm growth that doesn't fry your brain. Basically: you can absolutely have alignment and strategy. You don't have to choose. And if you've ever felt like you're "doing all the things" but it still feels unstable, this will likely be the episode that makes something click. The Calm Ads Method The Simple £5 – £10 a Day Strategy to Get More Enquiries in Your Wellness Business If you've ever boosted a post, spent £30… and got two likes and your auntie commenting "Love this!" - this is for you. If you're brilliant at what you do but tired of relying on organic reach, algorithm moods, and hope-based marketing… This free masterclass will show you how to run simple, strategic ads that feel calm, ethical and actually lead to enquiries - without huge budgets or tech overwhelm. Just as it was starting to look a bit ropey for Arsenal at the top of the league, Doctor Tottenham arrives and gives them the boost of confidence they need.Even with a pretty convincing win, one of the main talking points coming out of the game was just how aware Arsenal and especially Declan Rice are of the eyes of the footballing world being on them.Spurs look worse than ever, and with the injury list and attitudes at the club showing no sign of improvement, could relegation actually happen?Preperation for the most cursed World Cup of all time continues, as cities in host country Mexico are now under hostile cartel control, including the city which could potentially host Ireland, if we make it.Speaking of Ireland, did you hear the one about the brand new €500,000 pitch that was set on fire seconds after being unveiled?Support the showWant to support us and also get some sweet bonus exclusive pods? The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps dropped one of the realest suicide-prevention messages we've ever seen — no uniform, no script, no cameras — just a Marine speaking from the heart. And while the entire Corps stopped to share his words… too many leaders stopped right there. In this episode, GySgt Demetrius “Meech” Thigpen digs into the uncomfortable truth:Sharing the message is easy.Living the message is where most leaders fail.Meech breaks down how performative leadership, toxic habits, and emotional neglect continue to push Marines into isolation while leaders hide behind perfect uniforms and motivational catchphrases. He exposes the gap between “check on your Marines” and actually giving a damn. And he shares raw personal stories — alcoholism, emotional collapse, a junior Marine who told him “I'm getting out because of you,” and the parking-lot moment that forced him to change. This episode challenges SNCOs, influencers, and leaders at every level to stop posting for optics and start leading with honesty, humility, and humanity. Because Marines don't need another shareable message. They need leaders who live it.In this episode:The impact of SgtMaj Ruiz's suicide-prevention messageWhy young Marines don't seek helpPerformative leadership vs. real leadershipWeaponizing mental-health resourcesEmotional responsibility as a leaderListening without minimizing someone's painTaking care of your Marines by taking care of yourself firstIf you're a Marine, a leader, or someone who's tired of hollow words and fake online “motivation,” this episode will hit you in the chest.Don't just share the message.Be the message.Follow @MeechSpeaks on Instagram.New episodes every Monday.

It's easy to roll your eyes at a heritage month. To assume it's corporate. Performative. Political. A logo swap and a themed menu and then back to business as usual. But when you step back and really look at the data — at tourism dollars, small business revenue, museum attendance, school engagement, public programming — you start to see something deeper. Heritage months aren't just symbolic. They move cities. They fund institutions. They spotlight artists, historians, chefs, and community leaders who might otherwise be overlooked. And more importantly? They create space.Space for stories that were erased.Space for traditions that survived anyway.Space for communities to see themselves reflected in the place they call home.In a city like Chicago — layered, immigrant-built, migration-shaped, neighborhood-defined — heritage months are not side notes. They're essential chapters. They help us understand who built what, who cooked what, who organized, who resisted, who preserved. This episode explores why these months matter beyond the headlines. We dig into the numbers. The impact. The intention. And we ask a bigger question: What would it look like if we carried this same energy all year long?Sources:https://www.cps.edu/strategic-initiatives/black-student-success/https://consortium.uchicago.edu/news-item/Chicago-Public-Schools-and-segregation#:~:text=The%20City%20of%20Chicago%20and%20its%20Board,and%20White%20students%20to%20attend%20separate%20schools.https://statisticalatlas.com/place/Illinois/Chicago/Educational-AttainmentSend a textSupport the showAlso, catch Dario on the new season of Netflix's "High On the Hog" here!!If you have anything you'd like us to talk about on the podcast, food or history, please email us at media@77flavorschi.com WATCH US ON YOUTUBE HERE! In this episode of Unspoken Security, host AJ Nash sits down with Bob Fabien “BZ” Zinga, a cybersecurity executive and Naval Information Warfare Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. They explore how performative leadership shows up in security teams, and why values on a wall fail when pressure hits.BZ argues that optics without accountability kills trust. When leaders bend with politics or budgets, engaged employees go quiet. That silence hides risk. He shares how breaches often trace back to human choices, including a W-2 phishing scam that exposed employees' data and changed his own life. He also pushes blameless postmortems and clear escalation paths. From there, the conversation moves to AI. BZ warns that teams can automate bias and outsource judgment. He calls for guardrails, regulation, and human oversight, especially in high-stakes decisions. He closes with a simple standard: speak up for fairness, even when silence would feel safer.Send a textSupport the show

Executive leader and transformation strategist Victoria Pelletier joins me to talk about what happens when success stops feeling like success — and why growth requires stepping into discomfort intentionally. Most career narratives celebrate upward mobility, titles, and financial wins. This episode looks underneath that surface. Victoria and I unpack the transition from chasing validation and status to building a life anchored in meaning, resilience, and conscious choice.Victoria shares how a traumatic childhood, adoption, and early exposure to scarcity drove her relentless pursuit of achievement. Becoming an executive at 24, climbing the corporate ladder, accumulating status and material markers of success — all of it was within her control. And all of it was tied to external validation. Then life intervened.Motherhood shifted priorities. Loss reshaped perspective. Reflection redefined what mattered. From there, our conversation expands into resilience, self-awareness, and the uncomfortable but necessary process of recalibrating identity. We talk about bankruptcy, layoffs, corporate politics, performative leadership, toxic top performers, and why discomfort — when processed deliberately — becomes a catalyst instead of a crisis. This isn't a motivational episode about “pushing through.”It's a conversation about processing adversity, choosing discomfort strategically, and designing growth rather than defaulting to reaction. The lesson isn't to reject ambition. It's to anchor it in alignment rather than approval.TL;DR* External validation can masquerade as success.* Trauma often fuels achievement — but doesn't define fulfillment.* Resilience isn't brute force; it requires reflection and processing.* Discomfort is where growth happens — if approached consciously.* Surround yourself with people who challenge without destabilizing.* Toxic top performers erode culture, even if they hit numbers.* Performative leadership creates long-term organizational decay.* Real reinvention begins when identity shifts, not just strategy.Memorable Lines* “Everything you've ever wanted lives on the other side of fear.”* “Resilience isn't shouldering everything — it's processing it.”* “Discomfort is the price of clarity.”* “Validation can look like success — until it doesn't.”* “If you want growth, step into the room that scares you.”GuestVictoria Pelletier — Executive leader and transformation strategistSpecializing in the intersection of human performance, leadership, and technology-driven transformation. 2026-02-13 | UPDATES #129 | Rumoured Oreshnik launch – Russia's ‘Wonder Weapon' – triggers Panic Button. Russian strikes this winter have got everyone on edge. And no wonder – the weather is bitterly cold, heat and light are in short supply, and electricity supplies are hanging by a thread. It's in this fragile environment that Russia threatened a performative launch of the Oreshnik. The expected kinetic strike morphed into an informational terror operation today. ----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/scaling-up-campaign-to-fight-authoritarian-disinformation----------A REQUEST FOR HELP!I'm heading back to Kyiv this week, to film, do research and conduct interviews. Hello EICruisers! This week on the pod we're all over the map of pop culture, discussing everything from Brooklyn Beckham's tattoo cover-ups to cancelled RHONY stars to Taylor Swift's Croydon music video to France's open letter "reminding" 29-year-olds to have babies. We also get deeper into the newly released batch of Epstein files and discuss the fallout so far, how we're choosing to consume this news and why nobody can seem to easily frame this story. There's also some soul-searching to be had as the three of us ask... are WE performative? One commenter thought so after last week's episode. No hate to them (promise!) but it did make us think... where has this insult come from and what does it actually mean?Beth's been loving Schitt's Creek and a dognapping drama, Ruchira's been loving Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show and Oenone's been loving Industry and chatting to old men in Waterstones (more on her Substack here). Thanks so much for listening! If you've read this far could we pleeeeease be cheeky and ask for a rating, review or a share of the podcast on your socials? It really helps us grow and keep making EIC. Love you! This week, Alex and Kate talk about the rise of performative consumerism as a form of moralization and how it manifests from Tumblr to Bad Bunny's halftime show. Plus a reminder about some of the politics of some of the most misunderstood musicians. We aren't just the things we consume; go be a community!
What does authentic faith really look like? Are our spiritual lives full of leaves but lacking fruit? Through the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree, we're confronted with a sobering truth: God isn't interested in performances or appearances; He desires genuine transformation that produces real, tangible fruit in our livesSupport the show

In this episode, I'm talking to high-performing women who feel disconnected from their bodies… not just physically, but energetically and emotionally too. If you've gone months or years avoiding mirrors and photos, skipping workouts, ignoring hunger or fatigue cues, hiding in your clothes, or outsourcing your worth to the scale, this episode is for you. You're not broken, but you are checked out. And it's time to check back in. I walk you through a four-phase reconnection framework designed to help you gently and powerfully rebuild trust with your body without guilt, shame, or extreme overcorrection. This is about moving away from punishment and into partnership. I want you to become the woman who doesn't just look good, but actually feels good in her skin again. We talk about honesty without shame, why performative discipline keeps women stuck, how to rebuild safety through pace and structure, why micro-commitments matter more than massive overhauls, and how reclaiming your personal standards is the key to lasting confidence and embodiment. This episode is an invitation to reconnect, not by going backward, but by doing it better this time. In this episode, I cover: Why high-performing women disconnect from their bodies Honesty without shame vs guilt spirals Compassion and accountability Performative discipline vs embodied discipline Pace, ramping, and evaluation for sustainable change Why extreme resets and challenges fail Micro-commitments and rebuilding self-trust Reclaiming personal standards without punishment Choice points and self-leadership Moving from punishment to partnership with your body For the high-achieving hot girls that want to recover better, support glowier skin, and promote longevity through better cellular health, get 20% off your first order of Mitopure and make wellness easier than ever. In this bonus episode of Selective Ignorance, Mandii B delivers an unfiltered, culturally sharp conversation that moves fluidly between current events, social critique, and media accountability, opening with the realities of an impending ice storm and behind-the-scenes studio updates that set the tone for the episode [00:00]. From there, the discussion pivots into the viral backlash surrounding Mr. Tenderism, using the controversy to unpack deeper issues of ownership, branding, and representation within the food industry and how performative allyship often overshadows meaningful inclusion [02:51]. The episode then turns toward higher education, as Mandii addresses the ongoing Morris Brown College controversy, including the reinstatement of Dr. Kevin James, and examines what this moment signals about institutional leadership, accountability, and public trust [09:13]. Continuing the conversation on representation, Mandii weighs in on the polarized reactions to the release of the new Autistic Barbie, exploring why visibility matters, how intent can be misinterpreted, and where genuine advocacy can get lost in outrage cycles [12:00]. The episode closes with a broader critique of celebrity culture, authenticity, and performative behavior, as Mandii voices frustration with media optics and the ongoing tension between visibility, validation, and real impact in today’s cultural landscape [18:05]. Blending timely commentary with critical insight, this bonus episode offers a thoughtful examination of representation, media narratives, and societal expectations in a moment-driven digital age. PNR: This Old Marketing | Content Marketing with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose
In this special episode of This Old Marketing, Joe and Robert tackle one of marketing's favorite habits: declaring things dead. Every year, marketers rush to pronounce entire channels, strategies, and ideas obsolete. But many of the things we keep writing off are not only alive, they're quietly doing the hard work of building trust, relevance, and long-term value. Joe and Robert break down what marketers think is dying (but isn't), why these fundamentals continue to matter, and what actually deserves to be put out of its misery. Things Marketers Think Are Dead (But Aren't) The Website Why the website is still the center of gravity for trust, clarity, and audience ownership, especially as platforms become more volatile and AI-driven. Traditional PR and Communications How earned media, relationships, and credibility haven't disappeared, they've become harder to fake and more valuable as synthetic content explodes. Purpose-Driven Marketing Why purpose didn't die. Performative purpose did. Authentic values still matter, but only when they're proven through action over time. In-Person Events The enduring power of physical connection, shared experiences, and real community in a world dominated by digital noise. Things That Probably Should Be Dead Safe Marketing Why playing it safe is the fastest way to be ignored, and how clarity, conviction, and point of view beat neutrality every time. The Myth of Personalization After 25 years of trying to get personalization right, most marketing still confuses data with relevance. True one-to-one personalization at scale remains elusive, often resulting in content that feels generic, invasive, or hollow. The real opportunity isn't more personalization, it's better positioning and messages that resonate deeply without pretending to speak to everyone individually. Negotiate Anything: Negotiation | Persuasion | Influence | Sales | Leadership | Conflict Management
Being authentic at work sounds easy — until trust, power, and expectations are on the line. Because trust isn't built by performance — it's built by what you practice every day. In this episode, we unpack why self-authenticity isn't about surface-level self-expression, but about the daily choices that build real trust and credibility at work. When pressure to conform is high, authenticity becomes a negotiation — between your values, your influence, and the room you're in. We explore how performative behavior quietly erodes trust, how ego and fear shape professional decisions, and what it actually takes to show up consistently and authentically in difficult conversations. You'll walk away with a clearer understanding of how authenticity strengthens leadership, improves decision-making, and deepens trust over time.
On today's episode of the AllAboutTRH podcast, we're breaking down part one of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion. We get into the facelift accusations surrounding Lisa Barlow and why everyone suddenly seems pressed about her natural face. From there, we dive into the lawsuits and why we believe if something gets brought up on the show, it should actually be discussed. We also talk about the tag-teaming at the reunion, who comes off the most performative, and why Meredith feels noticeably more confident walking into this reunion than ever before.
