From the Vault: Episode #17 of the Taking the Lead Media Podcast. Original release date: 04/21/2011.  "April 21, 2011 - Episode 17 is finally up for streaming here. The episode is also available for download here.       I wanted to play some music by a couple bands that were on previous episodes. On this episode is another track from Social Concern's album, Cut and Dry (2010). That album appeared on the Top 25 of 2010 list. It's a great album. Also on the episode is another track from Crookedhook, this time from their first full-length record, All We Got (2007). They have a bunch of shows in the works. Check out their website or the Shows section for more details. The other bands that appear on the episode are The Rusty Trombones, Still Alive and Broken Spokes. The Rusty Trombones come from Ontario, Canada and play some pretty tight punk and ska. Check out more of their music on myspace. Still Alive are from Chicago, IL and have a demo out for free download on their bandcamp. They're a bit more hardcore than the other bands on the episode, but mix some reggae riffs into their music pretty well. It can get interesting. Hopefully the band will release some new music later this year. And Broken Spokes, from San Antonio, TX, close the podcast. They recently changed their name to Break Away and more music can be heard on their reverbnation and myspace pages. You can also download the episode here.       This episode is another ska themed show. Opening the podcast is a band from Vancouver, BC, called Rude City Riot. They're a six-piece that plays some sweet power-ska. A new album is currently set to be released soon. Here more of their tunes here. Another sweet track from Big D and the Kids Table from their album, How It Goes. They too have a new album coming out this year. Exit 24 was a ska band from the island of Oahu. I never got to see those guys play, but rocked their EP, Read...Break!, all throughout high school. I think some members went on to play in other local island ska bands. Stuck Lucky comes from Nashville, TN. Awesome stuff. They'll be playing Bloc Party in April as well as select dates on the Ska is Dead: Young Guns tour. Bloc Party looks awesome and wish I could make it. More info on that here. Great tracks by The Please & Thank Yous, the Power Pellets, The Slats, Super Bowl Rocket Ship, and Citycop. A few of these bands have some shows lined up this month, so be sure to check out their respective websites or the (finally) updated Shows section for more details. On this episode are The Please & Thank Yous from Chicago. They've been around for four years and have two releases out. Check out their bandcamp for more great tunes. Another great band, but no longer around, are the Power Pellets. I've been listening to these guys for a while now, but never had the good fortune to see them live. I think the first time I ever heard a bass guitar solo was on their track, Classmate, another great song by them. The Slats come from Minnesota, a band of many sounds, playing garage rock tunes to experimental stuff. Really fun to listen to. Super Bowl Rocket Ship is a four piece from Nashville, TN. They have a great set of jams and hopefully release more material this year. They also have one the coolest band-names ever. If the guitarist for Citycop played with an electric guitar, it'd change the whole dynamic of the band's sound. But it still sounds pretty rad with an acoustic. Another band to definitely check out. They also have a bunch of shows coming up this month too. I was about 6 months into doing this podcast and having all sorts of fun. Myspace was still a place I did all my correspondence through. I got in touch with every single one of these bands through Myspace with the excepetion of Unit 101, I think I got Jason Miller's blessing to play this track, who would eventually be a guest (yay!) on my podcast 10 years later :D. I got in touch with Chris while he was doing Lands on Fire and got a copy of the Mr. Orange Undercover track from him. I heard Anchors on Myspace, they're from Australia and just fell in love right away. That album, Bad Juju, would later be re-released through Creator-Destructor Records here in the states. She Likes Todd was a band from Chicago that played really great punk-pop, members went on to form Set Fire to Reason. Tear the Place Apart! was a band from Spokane, Wa, and I think they may have been playing with a band from Portland, I saw them on the same bill and decided to look them up. Enjoy the episode! It wasn't the only time a call-out was warranted, either. The guys immediately jumped into Naomi's process of becoming Pepper, and what it entailed (how long, etc.). The guys keep peppering her with AHS-related questioning... how long did it take to get make-up done to become Pepper? What was it like walking the red carpet? When was the first time you were recognized as being Pepper?They jump into Bite Me, the z...vampire rom-com, which comes out on-demand on February 8th. How different was the theatrical release from other movies? Is that HER doing the yoga poses in the movie? The guys ask her about when she knew she was going to go into acting. What was her college experience like? She also talks about a GREAT compliment from one of her college mates. There are so many great little conversations that make up this EVENTFUL hang-out. The War has been defined as Capitalists vs. Radicals; I believe in fact the war has been between Capitalist Republicans vs. Democratic Radicals or those who believe in Democracy as an active force used to both organize society and to control the instruments playing throughout society (by instruments I mean institutions when structured for the direct benefit of the public), versus, those who believe society should be governed for and by a select group who not only profits from the labor executed by the many, but sees the laborer as beholden to the whims, desires and wants of the select. Sure, the few who see themselves as the most brightest stars in the society will take exception to this description, but their actions are historically placed throughout the rise and fall of various civilizations; their missteps are well documented and their personal failings are indisputable when bygone eras are closely examined. Revising such truths only leads to delusion and decrepit personality quirks that fuel their obsession for more money and materialism, while fanning their ego, encouraging growth when deflation is required to save themselves, their world and ours.
