Pumped Up Parenting | The Best Advice that NO ONE ELSE GIVES YOU about Raising Kids in Today's World
If the word "discipline" makes you tense up or think of punishment, it's time for a major perspective shift. In this third episode of the Raising Eyebrows series, Dr. Kailey Buller and I are pulling back the curtain on one of the most misunderstood parts of parenting: how we actually teach our children to do better. We move past the myths of "time-outs" and "punitive measures" to explore the biological reality of what is happening in your child's brain when they are struggling. If you've ever felt like you're stuck in a loop of yelling just to be heard, join us as we explore how to move from being the "loud parent" to a calm, empowered leader who focuses on teaching rather than just reacting. We dive deep into the messy difference between punishment and true discipline — which actually comes from the word disciple, meaning to teach. Dr. Kailey brings her medical expertise to the table to explain why a "logical consequence" isn't just a fancy phrase, but a necessary tool for building self-reliant adults. We discuss the "witching hour" for both parents and kids, and why your own physical and mental state is often the secret ingredient to a more peaceful home. If you're tired of the conflicting advice that oscillates between "too soft" and "too harsh," this conversation will give you the clarity to find the middle ground that actually works for your unique family. It's time to raise those eyebrows at the old-school methods that don't serve your connection and discover a path toward respect, cooperation, and long-term results.
What happens after you leave religion — but still feel a deep pull toward meaning, ritual, spirituality, or transcendence? B2B marketing doesn't have to mean mediocre design, generic messaging, and content no one reads. In this episode of Pipe Dream, host Jason Bradwell sits down with Dmitry Shamis - former HubSpot creative leader and founder of OhSnap!, a brand systems agency helping marketers build creative that's both scalable and standout. Dmitry gets brutally honest about channels - 95% of his business comes from LinkedIn. Not just frameworks and case studies, but gardening updates and dumb kid stories. Because you want to work with people you actually like. This sparks a great discussion about the line between being human and being cringey (looking at you, banana peel LinkedIn posts). Jason throws him a hypothetical: $50K to build an audience, what do you do? Dmitry's answer: invest in brand systems. When you have templates ready, you focus on what you say, not how it looks. That's the foundation for everything else. They circle back to AI. What are we catastrophizing? The "you wrote this with AI" police. If the work is good, it's good. The real danger? People getting lazy and outsourcing their thinking. Dmitry's mantra: never outsource your thinking. His desk is covered with notebooks because side thoughts never make it into transcripts. He comes to AI with a fully baked idea - he doesn't ask it what the story is. They close with Dmitry shouting out Jess Cook at Vector for building a personality-led brand without a massive budget - a perfect blueprint for scrappy B2B teams. If you're feeling pressure to create more, post more, be everywhere, this is your reality check. The future isn't volume - it's consistent quality that resonates. Whether startup or enterprise, Dmitry's principles on brand systems and intentional content will help you build smarter operations. Expect practical advice, real talk, and a little fun along the way. Whether you're scaling a startup or running creative at an enterprise brand, this episode will help you build smarter, more sustainable content operations - and create marketing that actually moves people. 00:00 – Intro: Scaling creative without burnout 01:30 – What Dmitry learned running creative at HubSpot 03:00 – The rise of brand systems in B2B marketing 06:00 – Using AI to remove the busywork (not the thinking) 08:00 – Why most content fails (and what to do instead) 10:00 – How to make LinkedIn actually work for your brand 13:30 – Authenticity vs cringe: Finding your tone online 17:00 – Stop chasing impressions. Why does it sometimes feel like pursuing God's call to multiply disciples comes at the expense of our intimacy and abiding with Jesus? In this interview, David Cervanka, a movement practitioner and former team leader in Japan and strategy coordinator for Greater Austin Mission Society, shares the lessons he has learned from God through a season of burnout and restoration in the Lord. What does it look like to pursue movement in the timing of the Holy Spirit? How do we make God's love for us our primary joy over visible fruit in ministry? How does loving our families and our children flow into multiplication work? How do we pursue great works for God without losing our souls?

Most people treat resistance like a problem to eliminate. What if it's the training ground instead? This episode explores what happens when the thing blocking you isn't failure — it's feedback. When the friction that keeps returning isn't a sign to quit, but a signal shaping a capacity you don't have yet.I talk about resistance as a kind of gym. About learning to hold recurring difficulty without flinching. About why smooth paths rarely build anything durable. There's also a quiet conversation here about attention — the kind that doesn't announce itself. The screenshots. The private messages. The readers and listeners who never engage publicly but carry the work into safer rooms. Silence isn't always absence. Sometimes it's encrypted traffic. We touch on contrarian questions, not as hot takes, but as operating systems. The kind that bend paths, get you uninvited, and help map where the real voltage is in a creative network. This is also about building in imperfect conditions. Writing in chaos. Recording wherever you are.Publishing open instead of waiting for control. Letting systems learn instead of trying to pose as finished. If you're creating, thinking, or building anything that feels slow, quiet, or unseen — this episode is for you.Treat resistance like a coach, not a cop.Trust the quiet audience.Ask the sideways question.Choose meaning over control. That's the practice.---Undercover Vampire Policeman by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Source: http://chriszabriskie.com/uvp/Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/

Joining us today are three people who are practising clinical psychologists and who have written for Mad in America. Zenobia Morrill is a critical-liberation psychologist and psychology professor who received her doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Her research interests include critical and liberation psychology, the psychotherapy process, and wider conceptual and ethical issues in psychology and psychiatry. José Giovanni Luiggi-Hernández is a clinical psychologist in private practice, a qualitative researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, a writer for Mad in America and part of the recently launched Mad in Puerto Rico website. His interests include understanding the lived experiences of colonized people using phenomenological, psychoanalytic, and decolonial frameworks, LGBTQ issues and psychotherapy for physical health concerns. Also joining us is Mad in America's lead research news editor, Justin Karter. A graduate in both psychology and journalism, Justin's research and writing span topics in the philosophy of psychology, critical psychology, MAD studies, cross-cultural psychology, qualitative methods, and theories of counselling and psychotherapy. In this conversation, we discuss the possibilities opened up by adopting a critical mindset, identify some of the barriers to working in such a way, and share some key resources to help aspiring psychologists explore alternative approaches. Episode 102: Carrie Delgott is the President, COO, and CCO at Wescott Financial Advisory Group. With over 25 years in financial services—including two decades at Vanguard—Carrie brings deep expertise to the evolving RIA landscape. At Wescott, she has helped guide the firm through transformative initiatives like B Corp certification, major acquisitions, and the development of their Life-Minded Wealth framework, all while prioritizing employee engagement, client experience, and sustainable scale. This week, Kyle talks with Carrie about how values and vision can power meaningful scale. They dive into Wescott's journey as a B Corp, their involvement in the Net Positive Consortium, and how their Life-Minded Wealth philosophy puts people—not just portfolios—at the center of everything. Carrie shares lessons from integrating a billion-dollar acquisition, insights on the future of the industry, and why technology, culture, and intentionality are key to building a standout firm in a crowded market. In this episode: (00:00) - Intro (01:48) - Carrie's money moment (04:03) - What B Corp Certification really means (07:21) - Why B Corp matters for RIAs (09:21) - The Net Positive Consortium and its five pillars (11:45) - What sets Wescott apart (13:09) - Westcott's Life-Minded Wealth philosophy (15:27) - Scaling an RIA with intention (20:32) - Lessons from a $1B acquisition (26:12) - Consolidating tech stacks for growth (29:30) - Carrie's outlook on the future of wealth management (32:57) - Carrie's Milemarker Minute Key Takeaways Growth is about absorption, not just acquisition. Successfully integrating people and culture is just as important as the deal itself. Without alignment, you lose the opportunity for true scale. Values attract top talent. Wescott's B Corp status and purpose-driven approach resonate deeply with next-gen advisors who want to do meaningful work. Scale is relative—and evolving. As the industry shifts, even mid-sized firms must rethink what growth looks like and how to build infrastructure that supports it. Quotes "We're not looking to have technology replace that human interaction, but we certainly are looking for it to make us more and more efficient." ~ Carrie Delgott "Acquisitions are not for the faint of heart. Just because you can afford a practice doesn't mean you can absorb a practice." ~ Carrie Delgott "If you're not going to integrate and you're not going to come to some best practices for how you're going to work on behalf of our clients going forward, then you just lost all of the scale and efficiency opportunities." ~ Carrie Delgott Links Carrie Delgott on LinkedIn Wescott Financial Advisory Group Vanguard Grant Rawdin Net Positive: How Courageous Companies Thrive by Giving More Than They Take Life-Minded Wealth Salesforce The Psychology of Money Connect with our hosts Milemarker.co Kyle on LinkedIn Jud on LinkedIn Subscribe and stay in touch Apple Podcasts Spotify YouTube Produce game-changing content with Turncast Turncast helps your company grow by producing top-quality content and fostering transformative conversations. It occurred to me recently that it is significant that the invisible enemy of our souls is called “the Evil One” in both the Lord's Prayer and in such passages as 1 John 5:19. That is, our adversary is never named, but only referred to obliquely. He is also referred to as “the Adversary” from the Hebrew word for adversary “satan” (see e.g. the curse in Psalm 109:6 which reads “Appoint a wicked man over him and let a satan stand at his right hand”). This Hebrew word was transliterated into the Greek as Σατάν/ Satan and used as a title in such passages as 1 Thessalonians 2:18. He is also referred to as “the Slanderer” (Greek δίαβολος/ diabololos), usually rendered in English as “the Devil”. Note: all these words are titles, not names; they are in fact verbal circumlocutions used to avoid mentioning his actual name.
