Back for a SPECIAL episode, we discuss the global hit series on Netflix, "Squid Game". We go over the characters, games, and psychological distress these individuals go through.
Now that things have the potential of going back to normal, the theaters will be opening back up, which means there are going to be a lot of summer films that are going to be watched. We discuss the trailers that have been released and discuss whether we would give the film or tv series a green, yellow, or red light as far as watching it.
We review the new Mortal Kombat movie, currently out in theaters and available on HBO, and the 1995 version. We speak briefly of growing up playing the game on SNES and N64. We know this is not an Academy Award worthy movie, but we take it for what it is. We point out the good, the bad, and the cringy.
We review the final episode of season 1 of Disney+'s Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Sam Wilson has become the new Captain America. We discuss our excitement over this, on top of our level of satisfaction for Bucky's "ending", and our thoughts of Sam's surprise to Isaiah.
Allow us to entertain you with our hot mess. It's Cinco de Mayo, so we decided to talk *briefly* about American films that put some focus on Mexican culture, but to be honest, we *mostly* talk about our problematic and complicated relationship with our culture. Join us as we ramble about our issues. You've been warned.
As we get near the finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we discuss what this show has been hinting at finally explicitly saying: this show is about race. The topic of white privilege comes up as well as our original thoughts about who Steve should have picked to continue his legacy. Join us three geeks as we dive into one of our favorite new shows.
We talk about Netflix's new documentary that follows British filmmaker, Ali Tabrizi, as he travels down a dirty world surrounding overfishing. In this episode, we discuss the rabbit hole Tabrizi takes us through.
We review DisneyPlus' Falcon and the Winter Soldier episodes 3 and 4. We speak about the themes surrounding the episode: racism, supremacy, and power hunger. We also discuss the relationship between Bucky and the Dora Milaje and parallels between John Walker and the two former leaders of the Avengers.
While we may not have grown up as Britney fans, we go over New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears documentary that takes focus on one of the biggest pop stars in the beginning of the 21st century. We discuss her popularity, her publicized breakdown in 2007, and her conservatorship that is still currently being overseen by her father, Jamie Spears.
We review Disney+'s second television series of the MCU, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The two titled characters might both be best friends with Steve Rogers, but that might be one of the few things they have in common. We dive into the exploration the show is taking with Bucky's traumatic past and Sam's racist barriers. Oh and we also discuss He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
We review Hulu's documentary that centers around 90s child actor, Soleil Moon Frye, who starred as the titled character on the hit tv show in the 80s, Punky Brewster. We discuss certain topics in the documentary, such as the the price child stars must pay when it comes to fame, underage drinking, and teen suicide. We also go down memory lane of the 90s as we also dive into how we empathize and can relate to Frye's body insecurities when she was a young girl.
Reviewing Netflix's docuseries, "Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel" where it follows the case of Canadian college student, Elisa Lam, in February 2013. We go over how her body was found in Hotel Cecil's water tank, the infamous elevator scene footage released by the LAPD, and the conspiracy theories surrounding her disappearance.
Join us as we dive in and explore the finale of WandaVision. We discuss the topics of grief and mental health on the show, bring up the disappointments of some fans over the finale, theories as to what will occur next with some of the characters, and who the true villain in the show is.
Join us as we review Netflix's documentary "Nightstalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer". We discuss Richard Ramirez's upsetting history, if a person is born a killer or if he is made, and people's fascination towards true crime.
Hello and welcome back! We missed a week :( Valentine's Day really did a number on everyone. This year, we were inspired by...some events and some TikTok videos. The bar is low when it comes to dads. It's pretty sad when a "man" wants a pat on the back when he does something any father should be doing to begin with. Let us know what you think. We'll be back next week with our regularly scheduled program. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Please like, share, comment, subscribe, and or rate this podcast.
Who binge watched Bridgerton? What made it so binge-able? Listen in as we discuss characters and storylines. What did y'all think about the rape scene? We had good and bad things to say about this show. We hope you enjoy this episode to wind you up for Valentine's Day. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Like, share, comment, rate, and or subscribe We'll see you next week.
Welcome back to another episode! This week we had to do part 2 of WandaVision. Episode 4 especially took us by surprise. Our theories from the previous episode were somewhat wrong and we have brand new ideas. Join us and let us know if you agree or think we're way off, Follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Don't forget to like, share, comment, rate, and or subscribe.
With only 2 episodes out, we already have so much to say. Please join us as we discuss the first 2 episodes of WandaVision which you can watch on Disney+ We share our thoughts on the show, our likes, and dislikes. Hello! Welcome back to episode 2! This week we go into the wonderful world of Jojo, where his imaginary best friend is none other than Hitler. Yes, folks, you heard right, Hitler. If you haven't watched this movie, we suggest you watch it. This dark comedy will have you laughing even at the most inappropriate times. Join us as we discuss characters and how this movie actually works. We'll be back next week. Join us on Instagram and Facebook.
First off, WELCOME BACK to another season of Geegkly Distraction. Season 7 is looking to be somewhat crazy. This episode was recorded in early December and was meant to be out for Christmas but somebody got obsessed with some K-pop drama something or other on Netflix and it's finally coming out now. Thanks, Adriana! (Yup, threw you under a bus. You were watching a dang K drama!) To be fair, I was supposed to post this in the morning but I (Alex) forgot. Anyway, we simply discuss Christmas movies where people were reluctant to celebrate the holidays. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Please like, share, comment, rate, and or subscribe. We'll be back next week.
Did you know Unsolved Mysteries is on Netflix? We watched this season to see what it was all about. The season isn't long but there were 4 episodes that raised a lot of questions. Join us as we discuss the episodes that raised questions, the ones we feel are pretty much solved and which episode took us by surprise. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and twitter. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate! :)
This movie was surprising in that it led us down a rabbit hole. Did the government have something to do with these pills in the movie or was it always a third party. We end up discussing times in our Country's past where the government has misinformed the public for experiment's sake. Join us as we discuss plot, characters, and US history. Who can we trust? Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate.
It took a while to convince someone to do this episode because this subject is rather dark and heavy. The documentary of Epstein on Netflix covered pretty much everything. This sick SOB had the freedom to do what he did for years. Multiple calls by women were made and nothing was ever done. He was given a sweet deal when he was taken to court more than ten years ago by Alexander Acosta who you might remember was in Trump's Cabinet as Secretery of Labor. How deep do these sick people go? How much power do they have? How many are lurking in the shadows? Did Epstein commit suicide or was he killed? We'll be back next week with another episode and we promise to keep it light.
We just noticed we hit 100 episodes! Thank you for everyone who has listened and shared. We were excited to watch this movie and for the most part. we really liked it. There is controversy with it premiering because of the actress playing Mulan but we got past that. We compare it to the original, talk family, bravery, loyalty, and truth. We ain't gonna lie, this movie brought the feels. Please let us know what you thought about the movie. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe, and or rate.
If you haven't given Palm Springs a try, please stop this and go check it out. The movie is on Hulu and we were pleasantly surprised by it. The movie is a comedy but it can also be qualified as a rom-com. We were taken by surprised a time or two while watching and that's always refreshing. Join us as we go over plot points, characters, and what actually happened in the end. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Don't forget to rate, comment, review, subscribe, and or share this episode.
Hello, lovely listeners. This week we discuss our love for the show The Good Place starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. The series finale was one of our favorites, it did what so many shows have failed to do. Please join us as we discuss our thoughts on an afterlife, character arcs, etc. What does your Heaven look like? Is there a Heaven and Hell? Please let us know in our comments. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Like, share, rate, and or comment. We'll be back next week with a brand new episode.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has come to an end. We are sad to see it go. Welcome to our Season 7 review. We had a lot of feels during the series finale. Please join us as we discuss plots, character development, relationships/ships, and much more. There were ups and downs as we discussed this. We predicted some things and not others. What did you guys think? Were you satisfied with the series finale? Once and agent always an agent. We raise a glass to this cast and crew. Thanks for the memories.
New week! New show review! This week we talked about the differences between the original Roswell and the new show Roswell, New Mexico. We also discuss characters, storylines, and theories. We are fans of the OG Roswell but you'll have to listen to know if we're fans on the new one. Let us know what you think about it. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe, and or rate. Join and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Wow! Are we late for the game or what?! As always, we'd like to blame Adriana. She was resistant to this topic and we had to force her to watch this show. Watching Tiger King was like watching an episode of Jerry Springer in its peak. So much drama and so much crazy going on. While we do talk about the crazy people on this show, we also talk about the captivity of these marvelous, magical creatures. Join us as we discuss some of the heavier topics and some laughable ones.
We're BACK! This pandemic has not been kind on the entertainment industry but really who's it been kind to...or what? Anywho, we are back and we wanted to cover HAMILTON for our first episode since it was released not long ago on DisneyPlus. Please join us as we talk about performances, actors, characters, etc. We get kind of deep and personal for a bit and as per usual, we stray from the subject but we make it back eventually. We love this musical and although we haven't watched it live, we are grateful to see it on film.
For the last episode of this season, we are fangirling over the Jonas Brothers. We focus on music released in 2019 and the documentaries on Amazon Prime. We go over our favorite songs, their history, and personal relationships. We also talk about their falling out and even talk about our own personal issues. We don't always get along. We will be taking a break like we always do and we hope to be back for the summer. Let's hope movie theaters are open or we'll be diving deep into Netflix and Hulu. Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe, and or rate.
We got the idea for this episode while doing our last episode on animated Dreamworks movies. Over the years it's pretty common to see movies come out, months apart by different studios. We discuss movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact, Volcano and Dante's Peak, Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down, Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached, etc. This is our version of this or that. We chose our favorites. Listen in and see if you agree or disagree. We only touched on some movies because this was long enough. We may come back for part 2 in the future. Please like, share, comment, subscribe, and or rate. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
Ok, people. We gave Disney way too much attention this season, so we thought we'd switch it up. Our apologies because I don't know who decided to open the episode with nasty coughing. She (Adriana) does NOT have coronavirus. We promise. She just wanted attention. That being said, join us as we discuss our favorite Dreamworks animated films. We also touch upon films that are similar to Disney films. Please like, share, comment, rate, and or subscribe. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
Happy National Pet Day! So, we're a bit late but that's ok. In this episode, we dive not only just into movies about pets but we also talk about our personal pets. Between the 3 of us (really 2 of us), we have 6 dogs and 1 cat. By age, it's Kingston, Pogi (both pugs), Opie, Delta (mutts), Binx (cat), Remy and Bran (brothers). We discovered that every pretty much every movie we watch with animals, makes us cry. Tell us about your pets. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We'll probably share pictures and or videos this week of our pets. Don't forget to like, comment, share, subscribe and or rate.
We've been quarantined. We've been out of work. This week's episode is a doozy. Because of the state of things, we figured we'd talk about people that went through rough times...that is to say rough times with money. We discuss films where the characters either grew up broke or went through a situation where they lost nearly everything. There's a lot to say about the system these people find themselves in. Being dirt poor is sometimes a vicious cycle. It's hard to pull yourself out of the slumps. Don't forget to like, share, comment, rate and or subscribe. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
SPOILERS (duh!) If you've seen Onward, we're pretty sure you've shed some tears. (If you didn't cry with this film, you should go get your heart checked, booboo). This movie tugs at your heartstrings like other Pixar films and although it wasn't the funniest it was really good. We might have shed some tears even talking about Onward because it hit close to home. Dan Scanlon (writer/director) shared his past and like the movie, there is so much light going through the darkness. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate.
With what's been going around, we had one thing on our mind. It's no wonder why we chose to watch and talk about movies related to viruses. These are some scary times. We hope you're all being safe and practicing social distancing. While most of the main characters wake up in the hospital, some show you how the virus originated. Please enjoy the episode as we did want to talk about the current epidemic BUT we're a podcast based on discussing our weekly obsessions. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Don't forget to like, share, comment and or rate.
With all the crazy going around, have some fun with us as we remember one of our favorite childhood tv shows. Boy Meets World was our number one show growing up. The relationship between Cory and Shawn cannot be touched. Those two can go head to head with the Cory/Topanga relationship. We discuss Shawn Hunter and Eric Matthews maybe a little too much but that's ok. We kinda ramble on through this episode but that's nothing new. Do you guys like the Feeny call? We have to find the doll with the Feeny Call. Hope you like this episode. Give Boy Meets World a try if you haven't already watched it. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Like, share, comment, and or rate :)
Are you ready for another Disney fun-filled episode? This time around, we listened to all Disney soundtracks and narrowed down some songs. Yes, we had requirements as always. Adriana can't go one week without making up a rubric, so you know we had fun with it. (Notice the sarcasm?) We each talk about our favorite opening number, main track, villain song, and montage song. We were pleasantly surprised as we had forgotten how much we liked certain movies and their music. Do you agree with our picks? Please follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate. See you all again next week.
Welcome back for another episode! This week we review Jumangi: The Next Level. We agreed as a whole that the movie was good, it might have lacked in some areas but overall the cast did a wonderful job. Some cast members stood out for us but you won't know who until you listen ;) One of our favorite things about the movie was the challenges the cast had to have to channel different characters. What did you guys think? We will be back next week with a new episode. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Please like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate.
What was supposed to be an easy episode turned out to be a doozy. We had to rate Disney Princesses, people! Do you know how hard that is? First, we weeded out non Princesses, then we had to rate with a rubric. We rated their songs, personality, style, character development, etc. Mind you, this episode might be a little girlie but we grew up with these movies. Let us know if you agree with our rankings. Surprisingly, our favorite Princess did not match our favorite movie. Don't forget to like, share, comment, rate and or subscribe. We'll be back next week with a brand new episode.
Who still watches the Fast and the Furious franchise movies? We know we do and there are still a lot of you out there too! Join us as we discuss these movies, characters, and our love and hate for these movies. We discuss why we come back and watch movie after movie. Yes, we discuss some of the ridiculousness of it all but overall we love to go watch these at the movie theaters. (We are not counting the trash movie spin-off of deke and shaw). Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Let's do this! One last ride!
We are back this week with a special episode. This is a back to back sports episode but unlike last week's episode where we discussed the dark mind of someone, this week, we look into the talent that was Kobe Bryant. For Valentine's Week, we wanted to share our love for basketball and one of our favorite basketball players of all time. Kobe Bryant was our childhood. We (Adriana and Alex) started watching the Lakers the year before he came into the NBA. We watched him grow as both a player and as a person. RIP to all those lost that day., what a horrible tragedy.
This was a doozy. We dove deep into the Netflix special on Aaron Hernandez (Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez) and the podcast (Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez). This guy had a complicated childhood, bad influences, was not taught morals and never faced consequences until he was caught for murder. Would his life be any different if he had a stable childhood? Would he have murdered people if he had consequences the very first time he broke the law? Or if he didn't have C.T.E.? There are so many unanswered questions. He hurt so many people and he took his own life. Please let us know what your take on this is. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Please like, share, comment, rate and or subscribe.
"That's what she said." "There's too many people in this world. We need a new plague." "The worst part about prison was the dementors." "I talk a lot, so I've learned to just tune myself out." "I want people to be afraid of how much they love me." The Office had so many funny quotes, we couldn't just stop at one. The show had so many great characters and storylines. We've watched and re-watched this show on Netflix so many times but still can't get sick of it. Let us know how you liked it. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate. We'll be back next week with a brand new episode.
First off, we would like to apologize because we had some technical difficulties during this recording. Second, we know this case is old, the podcast is old, the case is old but it has been a long time coming. We don't usually agree on podcasts but this one was one we all heard and one we didn't agree on. There are so many unanswered questions, so many unknowns. One thing is clear, one or more people are lying. Who do you think it is? Are you familiar with this case? Please join us as we debate the case of Adnan Syed. Don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate this podcast. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
Our review of the new streaming service, which came out in November of 2019 hit some highs and some lows. We somehow ended up talking about Marvel and how horrible DC movies are. Don't fret, we get back at the task at hand and even mention what we're most looking forward to on the new service. How do you feel about it? Disney plus, not out love for Marvel over DC. Although, you can tell us about that too, seeing as we always talk about it. Thanks for tuning back in this week. We apologize for the late episode, the flu is going around. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Like, share, comment, subscribe and or rate us.
**SPOILER ALERT for the following movies: Knives Out, Murder on the Orient Express and Wind River. This week we discuss the movie Knives Out and movies like it. This movie kept us on our toes. We basically suspected everyone Dwight Schrute from the Office helped us pick out the murder. "It's never the person you most suspect. It's also never the person you least suspect, since anyone with half a brain would suspect them the most. Therefore I know the killer to be Phyllis, AKA Beatrix Bourbon, the person I most medium suspect." Sorry, we had to throw in that quote. Thanks, Dwight! Getting back to this movie, let us know what you thought about it. You can find us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Don't forget to like, share, comment and or subscribe. Don't forget to rate us on iTunes.
Join us as we close out the decade with our favorite movies, tv shows, songs, albums, soundtracks, documentaries and more. Note, if the show started prior to 2010, we couldn't use it. We also go back to argue about THE dress. Was is black and blue or white and gold. (HINT: the correct answer is black and blue). Does anyone remember the ice bucket challenge? We are ready for 2020 as 2019 wasn't our favorite. We hope you join us this season. Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays! We live in the US where you are free to celebrate or NOT celebrate whatever the heck you want. While WE celebrate the season, we don't particularly believe in "Christmas". So, we took a dive into where some traditions started. We (or at least one of us) saw the comparisons between Horus and Jesus Christ for the first time. Did y'all know the Virgin Mary "got pregnant" through the ear? Crazy, huh? We do NOT hate Christmas we just don't understand why it's celebrated as Jesus' birthday. We make some jokes that some people might not like. Your hate mail can be sent to geeklydistraction@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Please share, like, comment and or subscribe.
For our first episode we covered Frozen 2. We mainly focused on our thoughts on the songs of the movie. We also discuss the darkness that is in plain sight. Depression, anxiety and mental illness was a strong story line and one we couldn't miss talking about. What did you guys think about Lost In The Woods? Were you a fan like Alex? Did you think it went on too long like Andrea? Or were you disappointed like Adriana? Don't forget to like, share, subscribe and or rate. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and or Twitter.
