Bonus episode! When ABC's TGIF block tried to replicate the success of Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the late 90s, it resulted in a very high-concept time travel crossover that injected magic into the entire block! Sabrina, Boy Meets World, and the mostly forgotten Teen Angel and You Wish all get displaced into different decades thanks to Salem eating a magical time ball, and only Melissa Joan Hart's quips and charisma can save them all. We talk about this network crossover's legacy, and how even a fun concept can't save bad shows.Watchlist:Sabrina the Teenage Witch: "Inna Gadda Sabrina"Boy Meets World: "No Guts, No Cory"You Wish: "Genie Without a Cause"Teen Angel: "One Dog Night" A proud part of The Glitterjaw Queer Podcast CollectiveTip us on Ko-Fi | Gimmicks WebsiteEmail: gimmickspodcast@gmail.com | Bluesky | InstagramTheme song: "Disco Tears" by Raven | Creative Commons Attribution 3.0Sources:NY TimesPoobala.com

We're going to Disneyworld on the Patreon this week, and are taking about five ABC sticoms that brought (most) of its cast to the Happiest Place on Earth. We talk about the House Meets Mouse episode of Full House where Michelle Tanner gets to be princess for a day at the Magic Kingdom. We couldn't leave off Family Matters' unhinged episode where Steve Urkel unleashes his cloned alter ego, Stefan Urquelle, onto the Disney parks to sweep Laura Winslow off her feet, and we finish up talking about the best sitcom goes to Disney episode of them all, Disney World War II from Roseanne. In a rare move by Boy Meets World writers, they pulled a storyline straight from the big screen for this Season 6 romp, putting Eric right in the middle of “The Truman Show.” Will can perfectly recall a line from an obscure sitcom from the ‘70s, but has no memory of filming this episode! As a result, the gang unpacks why maybe this one’s been erased from the podcast’s most effective brain. We also drop some messages about chat rooms and talking to random people in chat rooms. Was Nike the first person to ever get catfished?
Our hosts know all about the life of a “child star,” but this week Alexandra Nechita is sharing her experience as a child…PRODIGY!The real life Petite Picasso joined Boy Meets World for “Better Than Your Average Cory,” a Season 6 standout, and though her acting was impressively stellar, she wasn’t quite ready for the allure of craft service soda. Jumping right in with a wildly unhinged Cory / Topanga kiss, Mr. Feeny is finding his footing in college, while the Shawn / Angela relationship continues to stall (and we don’t mean a co-ed bathroom stall, a room place that Cory finally conquers). We saw a ton of recognizable, and established, actors stop by Boy Meets World as a guest star through the first 5 seasons of the show - but it’s possible none were as interesting, and inspiring, as this week’s guest. In addition to playing “Jump Master” in the newly G.O.A.T.’d Season 5 episode, “Raging Cory,” this familiar face has worked with Spike Lee, Bong Joon Ho, Wes Anderson and the Coen Bros., where he stole one of the most intensely dramatic (and funny?) scenes in film history. Oh, and did we mention he was a cast member on In Living Color? He’s legendary, internally evolved and a pioneer when it comes to racial equality and standing up for what you believe in. Even when it’s hard to do. This week on Pod Meets World - it’s Stephen Park!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Warning: This episode contains adult language and subject matter. Listener discretion is advised. With the start of Season 6, the hosts have already clocked a handful of massive changes. From the introduction of Pennbrook to a goofier, funnier Eric to (kinda) new opening credits - and a spankin’ new cast member. The gang catches up with Maitland Ward, the season’s first guest, to hear the story of how she became the beloved new roommate, Rachel McGuire. But the role didn’t come without some strange wardrobe fittings and traditional newbie hazing! Plus, she opens up about her spicy post-Boy Meets World career, and Danielle asks a question she’s been wondering since the podcast started. All this on a new, and memorable, Pod Meets World!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The wait is over! The hosts are entering the halls of Pennbrook, leaving behind the naive salad days of John Adams High, and the podcast is officially in its Season 6 era. With a wedding proposal looming from a cliffhanger, and the addition of a new cast member, we have a lot of questions! When did Cory and Topanga ACTUALLY meet? Why can’t they just wait a minute to get married? Does Topanga even remember she was accepted to Yale? Is Eric going to be THIS funny all season long??? Plus, continuing the podcast tradition, we find out what our hosts did as teens during Boy Meets World’s Summer hiatus. And yes, Danielle got a tan. Hear it all on a new, and moving right along, episode of Pod Meets World!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
You’ve heard the origin stories of Boy Meets World, but now we go back to the beginning, to hear how one man turned Friday nights into a shocking ratings juggernaut. The gang is talking to Jim Janicek, the marketing whiz kid who created the TGIF programming block for ABC! Hear the story of how he first pitched the idea that completely changed television, and launched the cultural phenomenon that includes “Full House,” Family Matters,” “Perfect Strangers” and yes, “Boy Meets World.” Jim reveals which successful idea he was WRONG about, and we find out what TGIF REALLY stands for, all on an epic episode of…Pod Meets World! “WHEN THIS BOY MEETS WOORRRRLD!!!!” An entire generation knows the song, and now it’s time to meet the man who made it! Phil Rosenthal (not that one) was the lead vocalist for the band Twenty Cent Crush who was tasked with creating a theme for the 5th season of Boy Meets World, and now he’s revealing how it all happened - and changed his life. Plus, Phil reveals how the theme song to “Girl Meets World” was almost COMPLETELY different, on this bonus episode of Pod Meets WorldSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
When you work with child actors, finding the perfect person to stand-in for your characters can be challenging, but that’s where Kevin and Tracey Thompson came in! The legendary married couple served as stand-ins for the young actors on Boy Meets World, but that’s just a small part of their impressive resumés. Kevin shares stories from the set of Blade Runner, and we hear all about his adventures as an Ewok in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, a subject Tracey wrote an entire book about. The storied history of little people in Hollywood helped build the industry, but now it’s time to expand their presence on TV and in the movies. Kevin & Tracey have been at the forefront of this movement for decades, and now they bring their legacy to the new episode of Pod Meets World! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We’re heading back into the Boy Meets World writer’s room to learn about crafting a sitcom, directly from Emmy award winner, Barbie Feldman. Barbie reveals how a clerical error, and fetching comic books, led to her first writer’s room and penning Season 5 classics like “Raging Cory” and “Eric Hollywood.” And she shares stories from other legendary shows on her resume, like Arrested Development, How I Met Your Mother and Nobody Wants This. It all started with Shawn, Eric & Topanga - but only one cast member caused the most rewrites! Find out who when we go behind the scenes on a new Pod Meets World…See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
