Dom and Q are on mics while toni is behind the cam on this one and again we have Jusdowntown on set with us for this pixar 10 year old movie our first pixar and amination movie i hope you enjoy this revisit like we did enjoy making it.Monsters University is a 2013 American computer animated monster comedy film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.[5] It was directed by Dan Scanlon (in his feature directorial debut), produced by Kori Rae, and written by Scanlon and the writing team of Dan Gerson and Robert L. Baird.[a] John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, and Lee Unkrich served as the film's executive producers. The music for the film was composed and conducted by Randy Newman, making it his seventh collaboration with Pixar. It is a prequel to Monsters, Inc. (2001), making it the only time Pixar has made a prequel film. It is the first Pixar film to measure computer animation with the live action photography in the doors.[6] Monsters University tells the story of the main characters of Monsters, Inc., James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski, and their time at college, where they start off as bitter rivals, but slowly become best friends. During the time, they must learn to work together, along with Oozma Kappa members, in order to make their dreams reality and things right. John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, Bob Peterson, and John Ratzenberger reprise their roles as James P. Sullivan, Mike Wazowski, Randall Boggs, Roz, and the Abominable Snowman, respectively, while the new cast were joined by Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina, Peter Sohn, Joel Murray, Sean Hayes, Dave Foley, Charlie Day, Nathan Fillion, and Aubrey Plaza. Bonnie Hunt, who voiced Ms. Flint in the original film, voices Mike's teacher Mrs. Karen Graves.DONT GET LEFT BEHIND YOU CAN FIND THE PREVIOUS VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uumqiMrxInIIF YOUR EVER BORED PLEASE CHECK OUT https://youtu.be/4Y4D8oN4GTkLIKE WHAT YOU WATCHED ?

Ever wonder how long it takes to make a Pixar movie? 1 year? 3 years? Try 7. Pixar senior creative Dan Scanlon drew from a very personal story when writing the 2020 Academy Award-nominated Pixar film Onward, starring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, who play two brothers trying to reconnect with their father who has long since passed, through the world of magic. But Pratt and Holland didn't always voice brothers Barley and Ian. Through a process called “scratch,” Ian was originally voiced by writer/director Dan Scanlon himself, and Barley was originally voiced by City Lights actor and resident sound designer George Psarras. Through countless rewrites and in-house screenings, Scanlon and Psarras voiced the brothers for 3 years. Psarras and Scanlon caught up with each other recently and chatted about their time together making Disney/Pixar's Onward. Music, editing, and sound design by George Psarras. How do I break into the film business? That is the number one question we get asked, so we figured maybe it was time to finally answer it. For the past few months, we've asked some of the top professionals in the fields of cinematography, animation, sound, producing, and directing how they got their start and the answers were surprising even to us! "The world has a way of opening doors and closing doors on you. I basically ended up - through poverty and desperation - back in England as a news sound man, to begin with. Just trying to get a job anywhere I could. And [I] did freelance sound for the American networks for about a year. Which I was actually very, very bad at. And so it was kind of suggested that I do something else. And I kept telling the networks, 'well, I can shoot.' [Then] the Falklands war broke out in 1982 and there suddenly weren't enough cameramen in England to cover it. [So] they very reluctantly - CBS - moved me up to cameraman." —Sean Bobbitt, B.S.C. Many thanks to Sean Bobbitt, Kori Rae, Dan Scanlon, Peilin Chou, Glen Keane, Gennie Rim, Oliver Tarney, Mike Prestwood Smith, William Miller, and John Pritchett for sharing your superhero origin stories with us. 2020 aura été l’année de tous les bouleversements pour l’industrie du cinéma. PATREON MOVIE DISCUSSION: This movie was selected by our Patreon Supporters over at the Cinematic Doctrine Patreon. Support as little as $3 a month and have your voice heard! Advertised as Pixar’s return to a release schedule of original properties, lots of people had high hopes for Onward. Then, Coronavirus ruined everything, as we’ve known it to do, and theaters shut down roughly two weeks after it’s theater debut. Soon, Disney saved the day by making it available to the masses soon after, and the world got a taste of Pixar’s latest flick. That is, until Soul releases like a day from this episode’s release. After we give you all the technical details regarding Onward, Daniel kicks us off with his comprehensive thoughts on the film, and how Pixar simply has a knack for producing genuine, heartfelt, and engaging stories no matter the setting. Not only that, the two of us meditate on the idea that, at its core, Onward is pretty melancholy for a kid’s film, and how another animated feature from 2020, The Willoughbys, also has a melancholy yet hopeful premise for a PG flick. Then, we engage what is probably Cinematic Doctrine’s longest trivia section as we list off every lil’ hidden detail we could find in Onward. From the creative fantasy puns Pixar employs, to the myriad of references to other Pixar properties, we’ve got you covered. And don’t worry, we also have some behind-the-scenes trivia regarding the development of Onward, so stick around for that, too. And lastly, I ask Daniel what it is about the ending to Onward that spoke to him so deeply, and the two of us dig into its themes of wrestling with loss and overcoming hardship through brotherly love. I also ask Daniel what he thinks about the use of magic as a plot device considering the apprehension most Christians may have toward the modern usage and portrayal of magic in fiction. Onward is Rated PG for action/peril and some mild thematic elements. It features Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Mel Rodriguez. Directed by Dan Scanlon. Onward is currently available on Disney Plus. One of the things that helped Edith and her family no end during lockdown was having access to the entire Pixar back catalogue through Disney Plus. She and her two boys watched virtually all of the movies and shorts again for the umpteenth time, so it was a real joy for us to welcome to the animator, writer and director Dan Scanlon to Soundtracking. Dan joined Pixar in 2001, and worked on Cars and Toy Story 3 as a story artist before directing Monsters University. His latest work was the deeply personal suburban fantasy, Onward. Based on his own experience of losing his father, Onward tells the story of two elf brothers who go in search of an artefact that will temporarily bring their deceased dad back to life. It's both visually and emotionally beautiful, and if you haven't seen it already, watch it now! The film is scored by Mychael and Jeff Danna, and we'll hear plenty of their work throughout the conversation, as well as that of Pixar stalwarts Randy Newman and Michael Giacchino.

Pixar's latest entry, Onward, is out in cinemas now, so we sat down to talk about it. Directed and written by Dan Scanlon (whose previous work for the animation house includes Monsters University), the film follows two brothers on a cross-country quest as they attempt to resurrect their dad, who passed away years earlier. Is this another piece of Pixar wizardry, or is it missing the magic touch?

Hi everyone! Welcome back for another Matinee Monday. Some weekends it’s easier to pick a film than other weekends. And generally, whenever Pixar releases a new film, we’re first in line to check it out. Stay tuned for my review of ONWARD in a minute, but for a couple other Pixar films we’ve reviewed, check out INCREDIBLES 2 (Episode #169) and TOY STORY 4 (Episode #531). Connect with us over social media to continue the conversation. Here we go! ///// > ///// Today’s movie is ONWARD (2020), the Pixar animated film directed by Dan Scanlon and written for the screen in collaboration with Jason Headley and Keith Bunin. ONWARD takes us to a world of magic, populated by fairy tale and mythical creatures, but after science has replaced magic in their everyday lives. Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland) is an elf living at home with his mother Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and his older brother Barley (Chris Pratt). On his sixteenth birthday, Ian and Barley are given a staff from their long-dead father, which contains a spell to bring him back for one day. But when the spell fails halfway, the brothers embark on a quest to find a gem to finish the spell and see their father one last time. If you’re not crying right now, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. No spoilers. In addition to being a movie nerd growing up, I was also a role-playing nerd. I absolutely loved to play Dungeons & Dragons, but like most folks, I had trouble finding a group that could meet regularly. My love for fantasy transferred into reading multiple franchise novels and playing the many RPG video games making their way to consoles. Before nerd culture was accepted, I was teased for all of that. After the explosion in nerd culture, I’m just one of the many unshowered masses at conventions and theaters. All those intellectual properties and characters I loved growing up are now heading to the big screen, at least seven of which we previewed before ONWARD. I’m really happy about all of that, but sometimes seeing those adaptations comes to life and having everything at your fingertips takes away... well, the magic of it all. And that’s the key theme being explored in ONWARD. ONWARD is definitely a coming of age story disguised as a family road trip film, built within an amalgamated, modernized fantasy world. You can catch all that from the trailer. But as happens with most Pixar films, there are always more than one larger subtexts to explore. ONWARD, in many ways, builds off the same themes of fantasy and reality, and coming of age, as seen in the TOY STORY franchise. But ONWARD also looks at what our world becomes when we lose the magic in our lives, even when magic is all around us. The fantasy creatures and the idea of magic in ONWARD are easily substitutes for ourselves and the miracles of the technology around us. We’re often told to let go of that magic in our lives, and ONWARD meditates on what happens when we wildly give into that magic, even when it seems hopeless. Worldbuilding is always important to Pixar franchises, created with a sense of embedded meaning, and operating by a specific set of rules crucial to the overall story. ONWARD not only opens with a brief history for the technological evolution of the world, but also walks us through a day in the life of Ian Lightfoot, and his awkward relationship to his family. Awkward not just for the usual sixteen-year-old reasons, but because their father Wilden Lightfoot (Kyle Bornheimer) died of an unnamed disease before Ian was born. He lives vicariously through his brother’s precious few memories, and lives with the odd phantom pain of never knowing one of your parents. We get everything we need to know before we take off on our journey, knowing full well we’ll also discover magic along the way. The world in ONWARD is pretty much built like ours, with an electrical infrastructure and a capitalist economy, and allows us to identify just enough with all of the characters wherever we might be in our lives. In addition to Ian, we also begin to learn more about Barley, mostly through his actions, and his custom-built straight-from-the-80s wood-paneled van named Guinevere. The two brothers, and their half-dad, head out, taking both the direct and scenic routes, in their quest to complete the spell. It’s a journey that begins with wonder, and steadily builds tension, because as you begin to know and love these characters, you also realize just how incredibly high the stakes actually are, especially if you‘ve ever lost a parent. It’s a subtle point, but Scanlon and company absolutely pluck that heartstring, and more steadily as the film, like all journeys, draws to its incredible close. As always with Pixar, the animation in ONWARD is top-notch. Everything from the sweeping vistas to the microdetails is rendered beautifully, somehow finding the right mixture of magic and realism to fit each mood. The film has great voicework, great pacing, and ticks all the boxes of a consistently excellent Pixar film. Ironically, Pixar has made their brand of movie magic so commonplace, with such consistent quality, that they have trouble making their films stand out amongst their overall filmography. ONWARD is an excellent film, but a pretty standard Pixar film. And that’s definitely enough for this critic. One oddity from seeing this film. In addition to the seven previews One Movie Spouse and I had to endure prior to the film, we were also treated to a Simpsons short as an appetizer. Film Twitter and pop culture nerds have had a lot of hot takes about what this means for Disney, aside from the obvious brand synergy. Some folks are rehashing the Fox/Disney arguments. I’m not actually sure what to make of it, other than this might be the new normal now that many of the Pixar shorts are debuting directly on Disney+. It’s not bad, but felt out of place, less synergistic and more dissonant, thematically speaking. I’m sure this won’t be the only weird stumbling moment as the media empire continues to coalesce. ONWARD is a top-notch animated film from Pixar, using one boy’s coming of age story, and a family road trip, to explore the loss of magic in our lives. Scanlon and his team do a great job of worldbuilding, character development, production design, and pacing to deliver a solid experience with one or two surprises. Animation fans, especially Pixar fans, and role-playing nerds should definitely check out this film. And bring a lot of tissues. Rotten Tomatoes: 87% (CERTIFIED FRESH) Metacritic: 62 One Movie Punch: 9.0/10 ONWARD (2020) is rated PG and is currently playing in theaters.

Sam Clements talks to director Dan Scanlon about Pixar's newest film, Onward. In cinemas now. Set in a suburban fantasy world where dragons are house pets and unicorns are common pests, Pixar’s Onward follows two teenage elf brothers on a quest to spend one last day with their father. Neither Ian nor Barley Lightfoot (Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) are old enough to remember their dad, who died when they were very young, but the unexpected gift of a wizard’s staff gives them the chance to revive his spirit for 24 hours. After their first attempt at sorcery goes wrong and only resurrects a pair of sentient trousers, Ian and Barley go an adventure across fairy-tale suburbia to complete the spell and fulfil their wish of meeting the father they never knew.
? Indulgents, enjaillés ? Spoiler alert : un peu des deux. In this Pixar film, two teenage elf brothers in a town called New Mushroomton go on a quest that requires them to tap into the long-forgotten magic in the world to have one more day with the father who passed away before his youngest was born. The father left behind a gift for them to have when they both reached the age of sixteen, a wizard's staff and an ultra-rare Phoenix Gem they can use to bring him back to life, but only for one day. The spell is cast, but the process gets interrupted halfway, leaving only dad's animated legs to get to know. If they want to talk to him or give him so much as a hug, they'll have to find another Phoenix Gem before the spell runs out. Voice work by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt. Directed by Dan Scanlon.

This week BEHIND THE LENS goes global with writer/director RORY KINDERSLEY who joins us live from London talking about his new film, the psychological thriller EVE. A visually stunning film with high production values and killer cinematography courtesy of Douglas Milsome, it is impossible to look away from the unfolding intrigue as one is drawn into the web of slow-burning mania. Rory is an absolute delight as he talks about the importance of location, the unusual true events that led not only to the story of EVE, but also use of the primary location, his collaboration with Milsome in developing the visual tonal bandwidth through lens selection, sound design, score, and more. Rory's attention to detail and discussion on editing and the challenge of finding the perfect balance of fear and tension won't be lost on anyone. But before we get to Rory, #BTLRadioShow is celebrating ONWARD, the newest gem from Pixar. Enchanting, Funny, Heartwarming, and Fun for young and old alike, ONWARD is original not only in its story, but with its visuals. And how about the voice casting? Doesn't get much better than Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, and of course, being a Pixar film, John Ratzenberger. Take a listen to what Chris and Tom had to tell me about the voiceover process for this particular film during the recent press conference, plus my exclusive interview with writer/director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae talking about the magic behind ONWARD. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

The last two-week-research-cycle was my most productive yet! In this recap, I debreif my Alan Kay deep dive, discuss tweaking my schedule after reading Peak, review conversations with Jaime Brandon and Dan Scanlon, read aloud my thoughts on proper computer use patterns and my prototype idea LogicHub, recap my early morning meeting with CycleJS creator Andre Staltz, and discuss the next steps for my StreamSheets prototype (which is why I'm putting my Bret Victor deep dive on pause). If you were able to follow all that, my hat is off to you. I barely made it through the recording and episode of this episode alive. If you need help pieceing this episode together, you can find the notes on my website: /futureofcoding.org/episodes/9-research-recap-five.html
