In the early 20th Century, there was no bigger celebrity than first daughter, Alice Roosevelt, daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt. She captured the attention of the nation with care-free, hard-partying ways and eccentricities, like her habit of carrying around a pet snake. Songs were written about her and a color was even named in her honor. On top of that, she married a future Speaker of the House and had an enduring affair with another influential member of Congress. It was a big deal when 60 Minutes landed an interview with Alice in her later years -- and she didn't hold back when dishing about some other famous individuals, including her famous cousins Eleanor and Franklin. For more episodes like this one, search for "60 Minutes: A Second Look" and follow the show, wherever you get your podcasts. For years, Jeff and Tricia Bradford kept their abortion a secret from their friends and church community.  “We hid our story, because of the deep shame and regret that we had,” Jeff Bradford says.  The couple was engaged when Tricia, then 20, learned she was pregnant. "Fear didn't waste a second coming into that conversation and shame," she said. "And so, we just immediately thought, ‘What are we going to do?'" The couple reached out to a family member and received some “terrible advice,” the husband says, adding that a few days later, he and his wife “ended up at Planned Parenthood, and we took the life of our first daughter, and we didn't talk about it for 17 years.”  Even being active members in their church, the couple says, they “sat in the pew silent” because no one in their community talked about the issue of life or abortion. But counseling and a connection with two pro-life leaders led the couple down a road that changed their lives. Today, Jeff Bradford serves as president of Human Coalition, a pro-life organization that aims to help women choose life, and the couple have four children. Now, 32 years after aborting their first baby, the Bradfords are sharing their story in their new book, “Beauty from Ashes: A Christian Couple's Journey From Abortion to Redemption.”  The couple joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share their story and encourage churches across the country to be intentional about providing care for women who have had abortions.  Enjoy the show!

Inheriting her father's need for attention, she went from pranking White House dinner parties with her pet snake (Emily Spinach) to becoming a political institution in Washington D.C., whose favor and advice was sought by insiders. Alice was beloved by the press and foreign leaders including the Dowager Empress of Japan and Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. But her ambitions to return to the White House were thwarted by rivalries and difficult choices, and she lived a life touched by tragedy. Let's sip some cocoa and hear the story of a feminist icon who defied convention, set trends, and held onto petty grudges.

It is an honor and privilege to welcome Teck Holmes to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Teck became a household name when he appeared on the eighth season of MTV's iconic Reality TV show The Real World: Hawaii. Following his appearance on The Real World: Hawaii, he appeared on Challenge 2000, on Team Real World as they faced off against Team Road Rules, which consisted of show legends such as Dan Setzler, Veronica Portillo, and Yes Duffy. Teck and Team Real World won three challenges, and he received $6,830 from the team's bank account. After the show, Teck dove into the entertainment industry. In 2000, he hosted MTV's daily interactive hip-hop program: Direct Effect and DFX Presents: Jay-Z's Roller Ball. He also guest-starred on numerous TV shows, including Friends, The Hughleys, NCIS, and The Parkers. Teck also starred in several films, including National Lampoon's Van Wilder (alongside Ryan Reynolds, Tara Reid, and Kal Penn), First Daughter (alongside Katie Holmes and Michael Keaton), and Truth Be Told (alongside Blair Underwood and Regina King). In 2010, he hosted Cartoon Network's revival of Hole in the Wall. In 2021, Teck Holmes returned to The Challenge universe to compete in Paramount+'s The Challenge: All-Stars' first two seasons. During the first season, Nehemiah Clark eliminated Teck from the competition during the Going Out of Tile arena game. However, his luck changed during the streaming series' sophomore season. He defeated Steve Meinke in the "Switchback" arena game and made it to the All-Stars 2 finale. However, Teck withdrew from the game due to his partner, Ayanna Mackins, feeling mentally and physically exhausted. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Teck Holmes reflected on the almost 25th anniversary of The Real World: Hawaii and returning to compete on the inaugural two seasons of Paramount+'s The Challenge: All-Stars. Teck also spoke about the lessons he learned on the sets of The Hughleys, The Parkers, and National Lampoon's Van Wilder and his mentor Marlon Wayans's advice regarding working in the comedy world.

And she talks about becoming a marathoner at the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, including what her training was like (she used a training plan she found online!), how she felt about those weekend long runs, and what happened when she fell off a treadmill six weeks before race day. Plus, why she wanted to do it all over again (her second and most recent marathon was the 2022 New York City Marathon), her most memorable race-day moments, and what's next on the run. Happy New Year! At Road Wild 1999, we heard that two WCW wrestlers had been featured in films. But just how featured is "featured?" To find out, first up, we're taking a look at Diamond Dallas Page in the 1999 film "First Daughter" (not to be confused with the 2004 film of the same title). When extremists kidmap the president's daughter, can Secret Service Agent Alex McGregor bring her back? Will Agent Deadmeat survive until the end of the film? And will Dirk Lindman (DDP) get even a single fight scene? For all this and more, let's go...sit on the couch and turn on TBS? 'The more you have to protect, the weaker you become, thats why everyone and everything around you cant be a liability; - By Dencia Creating boundaries with your family especially in a culture laced in religion often creates  division and a choice, a choice between your peace and showing up in a culture that will tell you your mental health cannot be more important than your family.  The first daughter especially in the African culture i belong too  comes with a burden of responsibility that you are born into. Your identity  becomes the first born daughter and removes the person and stripes you of you individuality, you show up for your duty a duty your younger siblings then expect. As we evolve and grow into adulthood the structure of the home that becomes  the foundation is removed and adult siblings now make a choice to forge relationships and a further choice of forging healthy relationships such relationships require boundaries. In a culture that sees boundaries as disrespectful how can a first born daughter create healthy sibling relationships and remove the duty to enable her to also live in her truth and pursue her peace and what makes her happy?*This episode contains one dilemma Email me:  hello@toyatalks.com    Twitter: @toya_w (#ToyaTalksPodcast)    Snapchat: @toyawashington   Instagram: @toya_washington & @toya_talks   YouTube: At Home With Toya  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbXlRNLSYLuA9GbPB8cUYvQ  www.toyatalks.com https://toyatalks.com/

Why fix something that isn't broken? Or should we say, why make a new movie plot when you have almost the same one? This time, Marie & Coni talk about First Daughter. Another president's daughter movie about the struggles with independence and a good looking stranger (secretly body guard) to fall in love with. While we do enjoy Michael Keaton as president, it's hard to love this movie with its vanilla flavor sexiness and lack of chemistry throughout. Please enjoy Coni's rants on the lack of "Take Me On the Piano" moments and Marie doing her best to grasp at positive straws. If you've seen both First Daughter and Chasing Liberty, do you actually have a favorite??? Only want to listen to certain segments? 1997. A time when Tommy Lee Jones could headline a major studio action movie and Los Angeles was still reeling from the Rodney King riots and O.J. Simpson trial. A year when Hollywood gave us two volcano-centric disaster movies, but only one that cut right to the chase and called itself... "Volcano". For the fourth installment in our Rotten Apocalypse series, we're looking back at a pair of Golden State doomsdayers that explore two very different divorced dads and their quests to save (or not save) their teenage daughters. First up, it's the aforementioned "Volcano" starring Tommy Lee Jones as a city employee who cares more about being a hero than keeping his daughter (a young Gaby Hoffmann) safe from the volcano that has erupted right in the heart of the city. After that, we're heading to the not-so-distant past of 2015 for the ultimate Divorced Guy fantasy, "San Andreas", starring The Rock as a former marine who uses his work-issued helicopter to rescue his stacked ex-wife and daughter from the largest earthquake in California history. Get ready for a very L.A.-centric episode of Rotten Apocalypse as we touch on the long history of L.A.'s failed public transportation system, the absolute destruction of San Francisco, the soulless movie stardom of The Rock, and a truly bizarre homage to "Odds Against Tomorrow". Is "Volcano" an unexpected homage to 90s L.A. and working class solidarity? Why is Kylie Minogue in "San Andreas" for a total of 2 minutes? Is Don Cheadle one of our most deeply underappreciated actors? Did you know Forest Whitaker directed one of the two "First Daughter" themed movies in the early 2000s? Is there a shittier mall in Los Angeles than the Beverly Center? There's only one place to find out. "Volcano" is available to rent wherever you rent movies. "San Andreas" is streaming on HBOMax.

Learn all about Theodore Roosevelt's sassy, smart and spunky first child, Alice. She was adored by many, treated like royalty and knew she could get away with doing and saying whatever she wanted. She had a color named after her, smoked on the Whitehouse roof and had a pet snake that she carried around in her pocket named Emily Spinach.
