Charlie Gearing (@gearingforTexas), Democratic candidate for District 114, aka- East Dallas, stopped by the pod to talk with Tyler and JP about how he's going to help build a better Texas. Honey, we're sold, and not because he's hot. Charlie is a champion for reproductive rights, trans rights, housing rights, and actively combats harmful policies. Visit gearingfortexas.com to learn about his history of activism and his plan of action if elected. There's honestly too much to touch on, but remember that power reducing winter? Well, Charlie knows how to keep us warm when it inevitably happens again. He believes in education, equality, fairness, and accountability. Charlie made it easy for HML to believe in him, and we trust that listening to this interview will get you there too. Speaking of getting there, don't forget to register and vote in the primaries on March 1st. Let's make a date of it! "Political Hookup" is all about questions, and our main one this week was: are we free? That's an oversimplification of our wonderings, and any answer that's a few sentences (or even a paragraph) long would fall short of the truth. We can't promise that we've arrived at it, that glorious T word, but we can say that we always strive to get closer. JP and Ryan talk about our most recent national holidays and what they mean for Americans from different walks of life. Not everyone feels free, and there are many reasons for this. Join us for our latest episode as we hope to offer a tiny fraction of clarification on why not everyone practices the religion of freedom. Social justice, progress for America, and LGBTQ rights matters to us. We hope they matter to you too. Hosts: @hmlpoliticalhookup Producer: Collin- @squidlegs Support this podcast
Hey there HML fans! We apologize if anyone had a problem downloading our May 25, 2021 episode that depicted our pre-election conversation with District 2 Dallas City Councilman Jesse Moreno. I've re-uploaded our chat with him here, because trying to update the original episode wasn't working. Thanks for your patience and for sticking with us. If you're in the DFW area, join us at JR's on Saturday, June 26, 2021 @ 2pm for a congrats party in Jesse's honor. "Homo's Modern Life" is very excited for all he'll bring to the table. Happy Pride Month everyone! Hosts: Tyler- @homosmodernlife Andy- @Andyfromboystory Political Hookup- @hmlpoliticalhookup Producer: Collin- @squidlegs Support this podcast
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris recently took foreign trips, so JP and Ryan discussed what their statements and actions overseas mean for America's global presence. We were also inspired to take a closer look at the world leaders of some of the places they visited, and we analyze how they do or don't champion LGBTQ rights. Along the way, our "Political Hookup" boys celebrate a few key milestones for gay rights as well as lament a few setbacks that were definitely major disappointments. Most countries, including our own, have a long way to go in addressing the margins that exclude entire demographics. One small way we can all help is by staying informed, and we hope you'll continue to use us (Oh yeah! That's hot!) as one of your sources. @hmlpoliticalhookup Producer: Collin- @squidlegs Support this podcast
We've teased you long enough. "Political Hookup" has returned for season 2, and much like the Jedi, we're fighting for peace and justice in the great pod-space. In celebration of Pride month, JP and Ryan dove into aspects of those holi-gay origins. Where exactly DID the rainbow on the flag come from? Will JP and Ryan share their first on-air KISSmackeroni!? The answers to these and many more brain smooches are just a click away. Stay thirsty for knowledge, dear friends. Thank you for listening! @hmlpoliticalhookup Producer: @squidlegs Support this podcast
Tyler from "Homo's Modern Life" is at it again, and this time he's bringing producer Collin Miller and HML All-Star Raha Assadi (@rahafordallas) along for the ride. The gang gives JP and Ryan their hawt takes on the latest thing to turn the silver screen into a rainbow screen: "The Queer 2 Queer" Film Festival. Don't worry, you'll still get a little one on one time with the adorable "Hookup" boys. Most films are political, whether they're trying to be or not, and quite a lot of ground was covered by the diverse group of creators whose films were showcased. JP and Ryan get to the power bottom of what these queer and ally filmmakers might have been trying to say, and we like to think of this bonus episode as a great companion piece to watching the virtual festival. This episode was released on May 25, 2021. Visit queer2queerfest.com and peruse the material until May 30, 2021. Special shout out- "The Gay Men's Mindfulness Collective," email Brianfalduto@brianfalduto.com for details about joining. "Homo's Modern Life" and "Political Hookup" have teamed up again! Don't run away, it's runoff election time! Jesse Moreno (Jessemoreno.com) is running for Dallas City Council in District 2, and Raha Assadi (@RahaforDallas) has pledged her support for his success in the race. #KeepOakLawnFabulous (let's make that a thing) by getting your tight tail out the door and over to where you can get your vote on. This episode released May 25, 2021 and you can early vote from 8AM until 8PM throughout the week. You know the drill. Podcast up on your way to the polls. Both Jesse and Raha have a lot of great information to share, even if you aren't voting in District 2, or if you're listening in 2048 (scary thought...). Stay safe! Stay fierce! Go vote! This is a bonus episode because we thought you might need some City Council consoling. It can be overwhelming to try and figure out the right choice when it comes to voting, but hopefully this episode will clarify some pressing issues and who is prepared to address them. HML's Tyler graced us with his pretty presence to chat up these talented and passionate Dallas City Council Candidates from District 2: Raha Assadi and Dr. Sana Syed. Afterwards, we felt the sweet embrace of hope. If you need a little bit of that, and we all do, then don't skip this one. The gayborhood, Dallas, Texas, our country, and the world need help. Listen to this episode on your way to voting this Saturday, May 1st. Mark your calendars, cuz that's Election Day, and it's right around the corner. Every small change for the better matters. Be a part of that movement, and thanks again for listening then voting. Really, homegurl. Vote! Pretty please with a cherry on vers!?
