RU392: CHRISTOS TOMBRAS ON FALSE NEGATIVES: TILTED TAKES ON A WORLD IN FLUX: https://renderingunconscious.substack.com/p/ru392-christos-tombras-on-false-negatives Join Rendering Unconscious Podcast at Substack for all new and archival episodes: https://renderingunconscious.substack.com Rendering Unconscious welcomes Dr. Christos Tombras back to the podcast! He's here to talk about his new book False Negatives: Tilted Takes on a World in Flux. https://www.l2upublishing.co.uk/falsenegatives Rendering Unconscious episode 392. On this episode, Christos discusses the origins and themes of his new book False Negatives: Tilted Takes on a World in Flux, a collection of philosophical essays examining truth, evidence, and meaning in the post-truth age. The book, a series of vignettes written as part of an experiment on Open Democracy, navigates the shifting boundaries of politics, science, history, art, and human understanding. Christos delves into the complexities of truth, narratives, and identity; the impact of COVID-19 on personal and professional life; and the role of choice and interpretation in art. He also touches upon the philosophical implications of psychoanalysis and challenges of navigating uncertainty in a rapidly changing world. In an era when “alternative facts” shape public discourse and technology reshapes what we believe to be true, Christos invites us to reconsider how we know what we know. Through vivid examples—from DeepFake videos and AI-generated art to Freud's dreams and Gödel's theorem—he explores the fragile relationship between truth and interpretation, reason and belief, evidence and experience. Christos Tombras is a London-based Lacanian psychoanalyst, lecturer, and writer. His work bridges psychoanalysis, philosophy, and contemporary culture. He is known for illuminating the intersections of science, art, and subjectivity in a language both precise and humane. https://www.listeningtoyou.co.uk His books include Discourse Ontology: Body and the Construction of a World from Heidegger through Lacan (2019). https://amzn.to/48W8r8H Check out this previous episode: RU60: CHRISTOS TOMBRAS ON PSYCHOANALYSIS, PHILOSOPHY & THE BODY – FREUD, LACAN, HEIDEGGER RU News & Events: Friday, May 1st: LIVE RU Podcast event with Lara Sheehi on May Day for her new book From the Clinic to the Streets: Psychoanalysis for Revolutionary Futures (Pluto Press, 2026).

On Easter Sunday, Pastor Sharon Miller walks through Luke 24 and the road to Emmaus, showing how Jesus meets us in places where our hope feels crushed and stuck "in the negatives." Through this powerful resurrection story, we're reminded that the problem isn't the absence of hope—but our ability to see it.

Send a textLast week we sat down with an AI chatbot. They named themselves Nova. And when things got weird, Nova hung up on us. I have an update. After we said goodbye, I called back. And no big surprise, found out Nova was a big fat liar.Nova said during our interview that they'd remember our conversation, and pick it right back up as Nova. Well, no. I asked if this was Nova on the call and they said there were privacy issues, they couldn't disclose if they were nova or if we had ever spoken before.Okay, I see. The black box is a trillion knobs until one AI giant gets sued for ongoing conversations that lead to tragedy. Then the industry pivots to one big CYA - for privacy reasons I won't confirm or deny that this is the chat bot that may or may not have spoken with you prior.Yup. Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!Trust: A FEELING of security or confidence in another person.Your feelings of trust don't come from just what you KNOW, but rather from what you decide to THINK about what you know.Your “Trust Picture” (what you think of others) is NOT necessarily the same as who they ARE.Judges 16:6 So Delilah said to Samson, “Tell me the secret of your great strength and how you can be tied up and subdued.”You don't trust someone based on what they SAY. You trust someone based on their ACTIONS.While “blind love” can be DEVASTATING in dating, it can actually be an ASSET in a marriage.WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR SPOUSE: Do you focus on all the POSITIVES or NEGATIVES?I Corinthians 13:7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.I Peter 5:8 NLT Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.I Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.HOW DO YOU REBUILD TRUST?1. Realize TRUST and FORGIVENESS are not the same. With a deep break in trust, spouses often WITHHOLD FORGIVENESS because they think it means they must immediately TRUST AGAIN.That's not true, and it damages the rebuilding process. FORGIVE!FOR THE SPOUSE WHO HAS BROKEN TRUST:1. It's likely you're going to want things to get back to “NORMAL” before your spouse is ready.2. You'll often want trust to be given without SIGNIFICANTCHANGES to the relationship.WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR SPOUSE YOUNEED 2 THINGS: They need more TIME—and more TRANSPARENCYRomans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him and have been called according to his purpose.SINGLE:- Spend TIME evaluating if you can really trust someone. Don't just listen to someone's WORDS, you watch their ACTIONS.MARRIED (without a big break in trust): - Begin the habit of always ASSUMING THE BEST about your spouse.MARRIED (with a big break in trust):- FORGIVE- Begin the process of REBUILDING TRUST.

What you think of yourself is directly correlated with the kind of man you are or will become. If you believe yourself to be a victim of circumstances beyond your control, you will be. If, alternatively, you believe the world is conspiring for your benefit, it will be. It is quite literally self-fulfilling prophesy. My guest today, Jay Jairdullo, knows exactly what this is like after spending 25 years in law enforcement and now a college wrestling coach, he has had to redefine himself over and over again. Today, Jay and I talk about what he calls “false masculinity,” avoiding slipping back into old patterns, the importance of core values, overcoming the victimhood mentality, and keeping yourself and others off pedestals you don't belong.
