Jonsara Ruth is co-founder and Design Director of Healthy Materials Lab (HML) at Parsons School of Design, where she is an Associate Professor and Founding Director of the MFA Interior Design program. Alison Mears is Associate Professor of Architecture, Director and Co-Founder of HML and Director/Co-Founder of HML EU. Alison and Jonsara published “Material Health:Design Frontiers” exploring the intersectional and complex nature of material health. They also co-authored a chapter of The Regenerative Materials Movement (Living Future/Ecotone, 2024). This year is the Healthy Materials Lab's tenth in operation. Alison and Jonsara's close collaboration has been central to the Lab's development and to its success in engaging people and changing minds and practices.“Jonsara and I have a lot in common,” Alison says, “including a drive to use our design skills in the service of a higher goal to produce place for people that meet all their needs. We want to raise the bar. And we want to invite people in to do this work.”Jonsara says their partnership works well because they have complementary skill sets and they've always been willing to hear one another out. “We value intuition and we respect each other's experience. We are both committed to always learning and evolving,” she says.
In this episode, Šimon Mandlík, a PhD candidate at the Czech Technical University will talk with us about leveraging machine learning and graph-based techniques for cybersecurity applications. We'll learn how graphs are used to detect malicious activity in networks, such as identifying harmful domains and executable files by analyzing their relationships within vast datasets. This will include the use of hierarchical multi-instance learning (HML) to represent JSON-based network activity as graphs and the advantages of analyzing connections between entities (like clients, domains etc.). Our guest shows that while other graph methods (such as GNN or Label Propagation) lack in scalability or having trouble with heterogeneous graphs, his method can tackle them because of the "locality assumption" – fraud will be a local phenomenon in the graph – and by relying on this assumption, we can get faster and more accurate results.

Becoming a Hard Money Lender We have Jen's friend, Abby Robinson on the show today sharing how she created her own HML fund, better known as Coastal Capital Lending. Abby also goes into the importance of coaching and being ready to shift in this ever changing real estate market. She even discusses how she learned to syndicate a deal, practically overnight. There's lots of laughs on this episode, enjoy! Abby Robinson, co-owner of Robinson Squared LLC, a real estate investment flipping company based in Charleston, SC, holds a master's degree in accounting from Kennesaw State University. Shortly after obtaining her CPA license, Abby, along with her wife Kelly, translated their aspirations of real estate investing into reality in early 2021. Their inaugural venture involved acquiring two single-family homes adjacent to each other in North Charleston. Over the subsequent 24 months, Abby and Kelly strategically invested in 21 properties, totaling just under $2 million dollars ($1,983,100) in value. Currently, their primary focus is on shaping a lifestyle according to their own terms. Operating in collaboration with Kelly's mother, Lisa, they proudly run a women-owned business. Recently, their investment strategy has shifted from long-term rentals to fix and flips, and they are actively involved in raising capital for their expanding hard money lending enterprise, Coastal Capital Lending. A Hard Money Lender That Actually Gives a Sh!t We have one of Jen's all-time favorite lenders on the show, Tim Harvilla from Fund That Flip. This hard money lender is SO different from the others because they form local partnerships with all their clients. Because this company believes in nurturing that local connection, they work tirelessly to find solutions for every lending situation. Tim also dives into how to spot scammers, how LTV works, and using lenders to scale your business. Jen also gets Tim to spill the beans about an innovative app they are working on so investors can keep more money in their pockets! If you are looking for a new hard money lender, this is the episode for you! Tim Harvilla is a versatile professional with a diverse background and a passion for empowering others to achieve their full potential. His journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Rural Economic Development from West Virginia University. Following his graduation, Tim's commitment to service led him to join the US Marine Corps Infantry, where he served deployments in both Iraq and Afghanistan. During his service, he displayed exceptional dedication and courage, earning multiple medals and meritoriously rising to the rank of Sergeant in less than three years. After completing his military service, Tim embarked on a new path, working underground in the coal mines of southwest Pennsylvania for five years. During this time, he pursued higher education concurrently, earning a double Associate of Science degree in Mining and Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He also achieved an MBA from Waynesburg University, expanding his knowledge and skill set in business management. Driven by a commitment to continuous improvement, Tim obtained professional certifications including Project Management, a black belt in Six Sigma, and an EMT certification. These certifications exemplify his dedication to excellence and his ability to apply efficient and effective strategies to various projects and endeavors. Tim's journey then led him to a global manufacturing company, where he thrived as a project manager and consultant. Concurrently, he pursued his entrepreneurial aspirations, establishing his own company while continuing to broaden his education. He earned a Master of Science in Engineering in Construction Management from Drexel University and obtained a Real Estate license, further diversifying his expertise. More recently, Tim has brought his wealth of knowledge and experience to PWC as a private equity business consultant, expanding his understanding of financial opportunities. This journey ultimately led him to Fund that Flip, where he explores both hard money and private money opportunities to further empower individuals and organizations. In his spare time, when he's not busy caring for his two young sons, Tim has a profound passion for traveling the world and immersing himself in different cultures. He believes that these experiences broaden his perspective, enabling him to provide unique insights and innovative solutions to help create a better world. With his rich life experiences and comprehensive educational background, Tim aspires to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives. He seeks to provide new perspectives and business opportunities, granting individuals the financial freedom they deserve. His true passion lies in working with individuals who possess untapped potential and guiding them towards their next steps. How do we build intuitive relationships with our horses, both on a personal level and in our partnerships within the space of horse medicine? How do we honour each horse as an individual and learn how to connect within ourselves in order to more deeply understand their needs? And how do we honour and advocate for our horses when we work with others who may not yet be exploring the intuitive path? Join HMLA faculty members, Angela Saieva and Toni Wiebe, along with our special guests from within the HML community, Brittany Ashworth of Sacred Echos and Breanne Kerr of Wild Wind Equine. We have REIGN member and fellow HomeSchooled coach, Lisa Romano in the house! As coaches, we instruct real estate investors to do things a certain way. A common phrase we use with students is, "Ask me how I know!" In this episode, Lisa details a past project which is why she uses that phrase repeatedly with her students. From quitting her high-paying job to ignoring the professional opinion of a hard money lender, Lisa learned several lessons from this project. Lisa Romano is a real estate investor, realtor, coach and mentor. Lisa is a native of Connecticut and a graduate of University of Connecticut. Prior to starting her real estate career, Lisa has had a very successful career where she developed and marketed financial services software for major international corporations, holding various executive management positions at global companies. Lisa found her love for real estate when building her own home and further solidified it after buying and renovating a beach home. Shortly after, she put her business skills to use and teamed up with her daughter to create a real estate redevelopment company dedicated to relieving people of their real estate problems while helping the communities they live in. For the past several years, she has worn multiple real estate related hats including Realtor and Investor, focusing on flipping properties and building rental real estate portfolios. Lisa is part of a large network of brokers, investors and managers. Locally, Lisa holds a leadership position with the CT River Valley Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors. Lisa is a beach girl at heart and loves the warm weather for most outdoor activities, boating, beaches, going to concerts and sporting events. We've spent this season tracing how fungi, and especially mycelium, can shake up industries and remediate the harm caused by climate change. We've talked about foraging, growing, healing and commercializing mycelium. But there's one frontier we saved for this episode, the last of this season. It's one that, here at Healthy Materials Lab, we're honestly most excited about: affordable housing. We speak with Chris Maurer and the team at BioHab, who are building housing with mycelium. This project represents the culmination of our exploration of fungi (and aligns with HML's big audacious goal of making all affordable housing with healthy materials). BioHab is, all at once, addressing waste issues, food insecurity, carbon sequestration, affordable housing, circularity… all powered by fungi. Here's a link to the recording of our Trace Material Live event with Chris. For more information, head to our website at healthymaterialslab.org/podcast, or give us a follow on Instagram @healthymaterialslab and Twitter @parsons_HML. Mycelium based materials have a wealth of potential applications. But how does a new material get out of the experimental phase and into mass production? That transition is often where material development can stall. Luckily, that isn't happening with mycelium. In this episode, we speak with Gavin McIntyre, who is the co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Ecovative. Ecovative is a revolutionary company at the forefront of the mycelium industry. He leads us through the journey Ecovative has taken to get mycelium products into homes across the world. Did you know that Mycelial networks can break down dead plant or animal matter and they can connect with the roots of living plants to share nutrients between them? Whether that was news or not, mycelial networks are much more complicated than you might imagine. To get down in the dirt with them, we spoke with Maya Elson. Maya works with CoRenewal, a nonprofit dedicated to providing education and research in ecosystem restoration, where she leads projects around post-fire bioremediation and ecological generation. She also runs her own organization: Mycopsychology. She calls herself a ‘mycelial networker.' The power of fungi has been neglected by academic institutions and marginalized in the larger society. By the 1960s the American imagination had linked fungi to magic mushrooms, the counterculture movement, and Nixon's war on drugs. That lingering association has meant that American mycophiles have gathered in community at the margins. We wanted to dig into those margins with William Padilla Brown, a citizen scientist who's been thriving at them. William is the founder of Mycosymbiotics, and he both sells and researches mushrooms. We went down to Pennsylvania to talk to him about what it took to become a renowned citizen scientist, and what makes the fungi community so special. Here's where you can find more from William: Instagram: @mycosymbiote and @mycosymbioticsWebsite: mycosymbiotics.com For more information, head to our website at healthymaterialslab.org/podcast, or give us a follow on Instagram @healthymaterialslab and Twitter @parsons_HML. In this episode we go on a journey led by revered mycologist John Michelotti into the forests of the Catskill mountains to learn the basics about what makes mushrooms so special. Tyler and Andy invited Mutt-sician Trent Rush (@trentrushmusic) to bark about his alternative rock band, "The Wild Frontiers" (@thewildfrontiers), and things quickly got kinky. While wearing the hood would be too much for Tyler's delicate constitution, HML was happy to be trained. Trent talks about his journey towards finding his pack and what being a part of sex-positive kink communities means to him. We hope this episode reaches anyone struggling to honor their own specificity, either in art or in life. It can take a long time to find yourself, and don't be afraid of animal control. Be sure to download all of Trent's music after you finish the episode, and let your fabulous freak flag fly! We woof you! Andy and Tyler finally touch tips! That's right, on this episode of "Homo's Modern Life," the boys finally compare the sizes of their... noses. HML's talking aesthetics on this one, folks. Nails, do you have 'em? Do you want 'em? DM us with your fiercest colors and designs! In traditional HML style, this episode goes in 69 different directions. Want to know what isn't the best corn dog at the State Fair? Want to hear Andy confuse the "Twilight Zone" theme with the "X-Files" theme? Let's get down to business to defeat the buns! As you know, hot boy Autumn is in full force, so you may get a sneak peak at what Andy and Tyler are wearing for Gay Christmas this year. You're welcome in advance. Send us a tip on Cash App for a hot screen grab of Andy and Tyler's noses (basically) making love. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! We just turned one-hundreeeeed... and now we're gonna rest. Thanks for downloading and listening to our 100th recording where "Homo's Modern Life" looks back on the successes, internet issues (which came back with a vengeance for this one), icepocalypses, exciting special guests, drunken rants, evil cranes, game shows, closet convos, and the epic HML bromance which brings every gay element together under that great big DFW rainbow. Tyler and Andy will always be there for each other, as you know, and we will always be here for you! Seriously, go through our episode list and catch some of those oldie but goodies you might have missed. We're going to take a month off, but don't worry, we'll return in October at some point after things have gotten good and spooky. HML history has been made! For the first time in two seasons, a guest appeared on our podcast totally naked! And let me tell you honey bunnies, we're proud that the one to do it was Dakota Payne (@dakotapayneofficial) *wink wink*. Nakedness, after all, doesn't grow any juicier. We apologize for the audio only (for now, *double wink wink*) format of zee show in this particular cirCUMstance, but our conversation is more than tasty enough to whet your appetite. Andy and Tyler talk with this sexual connoisseur about wearing Jessica Simpson pumps while getting fucked, that sweet swirl of vanilla and kink, and muchessssssss to the moressssssss. As sugary as he his spicy, this Dakota Payne sungae is one you won't want to split from. Dig in, Queens! Feel free to eat messy. The nation's first plastic bag ban in Suffolk County, NY set off panic in the plastics industry. Stay tuned for lots of exciting announcements about upcoming game shows, panels, live events, collaborations, and more! In the immortal words of Mrs. Kasha Davis: "there's always time for a cocktail." HML's philosophy is take it off the apps and into the restaurant as soon as possible. Grindr and Tinder and all the other r's are great facilitators, but that long term connection is up to us. Tyler and Andy tell you what they think makes for a great or mediocre first date, and don't worry potential lover, Tyler may still kiss you even if things were slightly on the boring side. For all their hot tips and tricks, you'll have to download the episode, but here are a few teasers: 1. Don't drop online conversations that are clearly leading up to a meet up (if you like the person that is), 2. Have courage and tell the person you don't want to continue seeing them when you feel like you no longer want to see them, and 3. space out showing them the exotic sights in your emotional menagerie. The path towards a shared truth may not be paved in a day! Hosts: Tyler: @homosmodernlife Andy: @Andyfromboystory Producer: Collin: @squidlegs Support this podcast
The push to promote disposable plastics created mountains of new waste that will never biodegrade. The burden of that waste has been placed almost entirely on the shoulders of low-income communities of color. This week, activists share a story of community opposition to the construction of a garbage incinerator in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark during the 1980s, and their ongoing fight for environmental justice. The HML Channel was wild today, dear friends! As you know, things are f****** hot in Texas right now, and the temperature doesn't drop for today's podcast. Tyler and Andy were visited by the man, the myth, the legend, and the perkiest nipples on YouTube. Do we even have to say the name of this hunk with all da spunk? For most queers, he's a household name. For the tragically uninitiated, it's Davey f****** Wavey season on "Homo's Modern Life." That's right, Davey Wavey (@officialdaveywavey) gave HML an exclusive on robot BJ's, playing with toes, what it takes to get him into bed (or into your heart), and so much more. Let it be known that this gay icon is everything you want him to be when you meet him. We hope you enjoy our conversation with this sweet, responsible, honest, and hardworking homo hero as much as we did. Make sure you subscribe to his YouTube channel and Himeros.TV, because, along with many of the sex gods in his videos, integrity always comes. A homo's modern life wouldn't be complete without movies, honey. I mean let's face it, many drag queens would never have reached their peak fierceness without the influence of silver screen slayers like Veronica Lake, Kim Novak, and of course... Marilyn... Tyler and Andy talk cinema from the classics to the cults with Dave White and Alonso Duralde, the beary charming hosts of "Linoleum Knife" (@linoleumcast). With a healthy balance of class and sass, HML's guests take an intimate look at Tyler's top ten favorite films of all time. Will these married movie buffs brand Ty's taste with their highly coveted "Knife" of approval? You'll have to listen to find out. That's right, we're serving you Master of Suspense realness! Sometimes reality bites... That's why the goddesses (examples of these celestial creatures being: Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and RuPaul herself) gave us reality TV. Tyler and Andy sit back with their poppers and popcorn for a good old fashioned look back, reminiscing on some of the most iconic (and largely female led) reality shows of all time. This was a full bowl to digest, so the HML boys invited over a deep friend of the pod (yes, I borrowed that from "Race Chaser"), Wayne Holtz (@wayneholtz_), an electrifying expert on pop-culture and the sensationally sensual host of "The Wayne Holtz Podcast." This one's a banger for the ears! The cuckoo cock has struck twelve inches, so download this episode before it turns back into an episode of "Laguna Beach" where someone has a First World problem. Get it out of your pretty little head that the toughest sports are only for the heteronormative crowd. This week on "Homo's Modern Life," Tyler and Andy sit down with Devin Ibañez (@thatgayrugger), the out and proud pro rugby player with a heart of gold. And speaking of golden boys, his super supportive partner, Fergus Wade (@ferguswade), a musical theatre and fashion aficionado, is on the field for this podcast. Just because he's hot doesn't mean he's a benchwarmer. In fact, Fergus played a big role in connecting Devin's social media with struggling members of the LGBTQ community. Devin himself fights for legal advocacy and community programs for trans people, and it's clear to HML that these two powerhouses are strongest together. HML chats long-distance relationships, which region of "Drag Race" is best, and so much more. Don't drop the ball by not listening! Look, the sooner you click play, the sooner my sports puns will stop... Hosts: Tyler- @homosmodernlife Andy- @Andyfromboystory Producer: Collin- @squidlegs Support this podcast

From our HML family to yours, we wish you the happiest of Prides. We're curious. How much rainbow colored apparel do you own? DM us. Email us. Tweet us. Send a" Harry Potter" owl or a "Game of Thrones" raven. This is a big month for queerosexuals, and it seems many corporations across America have figured that out. Tyler and Andy chat about which aspects of this activate their cynical and optimistic sides. The boys also sit down with the wild in all the right ways Wesley Smoot. This one's for all the little gaybies who used to prance around their house with a candy cigarette pretending to be Cruella De Vil. We know that Ursula the Sea Witch was your drag mom. It's ok! Here at HML, we respect a good villain. Where would our animated movies and reality tv shows be without them? Andy and Tyler talk about their favorite bad boys and Queens, thirst over the Gastons of Disney world, and get into so much more. You know you want to be in on our evil deeds. To put it bluntly, sometimes it's refreshing to play dirty. Hosts: Tyler- @homosmodernlife Andy- @Andyfromboystory Producer: Collin- @squidlegs Support this podcast
Move over, Yoog! This week's guest REALLY understands the heart of the cards. We'll show you our decks if you show us yours. Listen in for Seth's answers to your burning questions about how the art of tarot really works. This is a great one for anyone interested in this practice, and who knows, maybe our convo will transform you from moderately curious into downright hooked. ***Please forgive a few audio issues, as our Zooms were battling some tricky connections, which is ironic, given that's what our recording was about... Samantha Conway, The Quiet Confidence Coach joined me on the podcast this week. She shares how she embraced her introvert-ness and empath side while working in Corporate America, a place that generally is a more masculine and competitive industry. From struggling with depression to sharing her methods of self love and how she became The Quiet Confidence Coach, Samantha is truly an Earth Angel. Listen in and leave us a 5 star review! About Samantha: I thought that if I had a second chance, others should have that privilege too. I wanted to share all of the amazing things I learned and help others thrive too. I became a certified Wellness Coach, but quickly realized I needed more. Over the next couple years I took my Reiki level one, received attunements in energy healing, became a certified Law of Attraction Practitioner and took my Meditation Teacher training. Out of this, the Hidden Moments Lifestyle (HML) was born. I created HML to support and foster a sense of self love and inner knowing in women everywhere, regardless of what life may have looked like before. HML offers a variety of approaches to achieve and maintain your confidence and self love, getting to the root of your barriers and self-limiting beliefs that are holding you back and revealing your best and brightest life – no compromises, just bliss. These techniques include meditation and visualization sessions, law of attraction coaching and energy healing. HML offers unique self-love and confidence coaching, focusing on you holistically, with a particular emphasis on deep self compassion and freedom. I am so passionate about helping others on their own self-love journeys to live free, authentic lives, from a place of love and intention. I love empowering people through a heart-centered approach to overcome their self-doubt and embrace themselves fully to live their full potential and life of their dreams. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/craving-consciousness/message
