In this episode, we're celebrating Pride Month with British author and screenwriter Simon James Green. Simon joins host Suzanne McCabe to talk about Gay Club!, his hilarious new novel for young adults. The story revolves around Barney Brown, a self-described chess geek who wants to lead his high school's LGBTQIA+ Society to better days. But Barney faces unexpected competition in the group's presidential election from rival Bronte, who manages to have the voting opened to the entire student body at Greenacre Academy. Little by little, the stakes are raised, showing the teens at their worst—and, ultimately, their best. Simon is also the author of Heartbreak Boys, Alex in Wonderland, Noah Could Never, and You're the One That I Want, among many other acclaimed titles. → Resources Read With Pride: These LGBTQIA+ books for kids are relatable and eye-opening for all readers. Learn More About Simon James Green: Find out why Simon is considered one of the UK's leading writers of LGBTQIA+ fiction for teens. Order Gay Club! on Amazon: Barney is a shoo-in for president of his school's LGBTQIA+ Society until he's not. Simon James Green's new YA novel offers “shade, scandals, and sleazy shenanigans.” → Highlights Simon James Green, author, Gay Club! “You can't help but look at the state of politics, both in the UK and the U.S., and all around the world, actually, and just see how increasingly ridiculous things seem to be getting…. I wanted to capture a little bit of that sort of craziness.” “When I go into the schools and visit students, I am filled with a sense of hope because my overwhelming impression is that they are very open, very accepting. They really don't understand this pushback from various adults in their communities. They don't get it. They think it's ridiculous.” “It's very hard to work out who you are as a young person if you never see yourself represented in a book. And certainly for me, in the ‘90s . . . I never got to see an LGBT character in a book or an LGBT storyline. And so I grew up having no real idea about that. It would've had such an amazing effect on me if I'd seen a kid going through what I was going through, feeling similar things. It gives you an enormous amount of reassurance and comfort. It lets you know you're not the only one. And beyond that, of course, even if you're not LGBT yourself, what it does is it opens your eyes to the whole world, the wider world, the stuff that your friends, your peers, are going through.” “What you need to do is stand together, united, to fight for your rights and for freedom, and for the freedom to read whatever book you want to read in the school library.” “I wrote my first book when I was 12 years old on my grandmother's typewriter in her little study at home.” → Special Thanks Producer: Maxine Osa Sound engineer: Daniel Jordan Music composer: Lucas Elliot Eberl → Coming Soon The Scholastic Innovation Lab Goosebumps Heads Back to Television

Not Well: Gay Podcast / Comedy In this episode, we're talking about a variety of topics including Donald Trump, Candace Cameron Bure, Soaking, Bagels, Grindr, Bear face, Conservative Dating App (The Right Stuff), Church Songs, and Songs from our Past. Let's get started!Mormons are known for their tight-knit community and adherence to religious values. But did you know that they soak during sexual activity? Here's why and how it works.'Soaking' is basically penetrative sex without the movement and hip thrusting. Here's how it works: you've got a couple, the guy inserts his penis into the vagina and... just lies there. It's basically a way to get around pre-marital sex, something that is considered sinful within the Mormon religion. Grindr has gone mainstream and we don't' think the straights are ready for this. Find out why its bad nad what are the possible bad outcomes. Candace Cameron Bure is problematic this past week. She caused quite the stir on social media. The key quote that Candace Cameron Bure said that sparked outrage was “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.” CEO Bill Abbott followed up those comments by saying that he and GAF are aware of the 2022 trends and “there's no whiteboard” that says they will and won't go to certain places with their content. Several people are in critical condition, after a mass-shooting in a US gay night club. Five people are dead, and another 18 injured, after a gunman opened fire at Club Q in Colorado Springs. The suspect -22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich- is being treated for injuries while in custody. US correspondent, Richard Arnold says it echoes 2016's Orlando gay night club shooting massacre. He says it appears an AR-15 semi-automatic weapon was used as well as another weapon, with the gunman wearing a bullet-proof vest. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by K, host of ‘Lost Spaces' - a podcast about lost queer venues and the impact they had on the people who drank, danced and loved within them… In this episode/therapy session, I unpack a lot of memories from my early days in the club scene where my at the time boyfriend would drag me to Diskotekka (my first gay club), and how it shaped me to be the gay I am today. Anyone remember those chaotic, 18+ nights? Looking back at this period in my life, I was terrified of setting foot in a gay club; After years of suppressing and hiding my gayness, it was difficult to shake that fear of openly participating in gay activities (the self-loathing and internalized homophobia were too real). I spilled a lot more than I wanted to in this episode, and I have to say, it's a masterpiece. Thank you K for having me! And be sure to check out @LostSpaces the podcast! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yaaasbro/support
* This episode is sponsored by Spaces, the new group chat app for queer communities - find out more at https://www.queerspaces.com/ (and, come join the Lost Queer Spaces Space after you've set up your profile! * You know how when you were a baby gay and you had to someone pluck up every single shred of courage within you in order to make that first visit to your local queer bar, and how you had to go through the emotional acrobats just to make that first step through the front door? Well.... my guest this week DIDN'T have that experience at all! In fact, bucking all trends and being in a long-term relationship that started when he was 16... Which means he was introduced to clubbing by his boyfriend, and didn't have to do all of that awkward small talk and flirting with strangers that made the rest of us want to shrivel up and disappear in to the beer-soaked carpet... So that means that this week's guest, Jonathan Marotto, from the Yaaas Bro podcast, has a really different perspective on his early days of clubbing and how they shaped him. We caught up to talk about the Miami under-age club 'Diskotekka', and along the way we discuss how Lady Gaga helped with his coming out, breaking up, getting back together, and then breaking up again.... and I get some tips on how to convince your classmates that you're totally, totally 'masc'... Do you have any memories of Diskoteka, or clubbing from your own queer scene that you want to share? Well, if you have please get in touch - I want to create the biggest online record of people's memories and stories - go to www.lostspacespodcast.com and find the section 'Share a Lost Space' and tell me what you got up to! The trio dives deep into club history, the wide variety of different experiences in gay clubs across the country and which experience they are more drawn to.
