They've been following long theatrical windows before Marvel pics hit Disney+ going back to 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Of late, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had an 89-day theatrical window until it hit its Disney+ debut date on May 17. Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had an 82-day window after its Nov. 11 theatrical release date before hitting Disney+ on Feb. 1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is currently the second highest-grossing movie of the year with $842.4M worldwide after Universal/Illumination's Super Mario Bros Movie which has minted $1.34 billion. Originally back as Mouse House CEO for just two years, Iger's contract has been extended another two years through the end of 2026. Having departed Disney at the end of 2021 after serving as CEO from 2005 to 2020 and presiding over a steady rise in the company's stock price, Iger was back in the driver's seat in November 2022 to replace his handpicked successor, Bob Chapek. With the company in disarray and the stock slumping, Iger swore he would only serve two years to get things back in shape after the pandemic and Chapek's reign of error. Although there was briefly a sense of euphoria in Burbank and on Wall Street as Iger returned, the CEO sequel hasn't unspooled smoothly. The exec has confronted a slowdown in the theme parks unit, a run of theatrical movie disappointments, accelerating pay-TV declines, and a soft advertising market. Another worry is negotiating a fair deal with Comcast for its 33% stake in Hulu, which will cost Disney at least $9 billion to retain. Which means that, at least hypothetically, any deviations from the movie's script by him could constitute strike-breaking under the rules of the Guild. Strangely enough, this release date has the Tom Hiddleston-led season premiering its first episode on a Friday, despite Disney+ traditionally debuting new episodes of its Marvel, Star Wars, and other original series on Wednesdays. Loki Season 2's premiere date of Friday, October 6, falls on the Columbus Day holiday weekend, indicating the shift was made to capitalize on the masses being off work and at home watching TV. Marvel Studios announced that its next show after Loki Season 2, Echo, will debut its entire six-episode season in historic fashion on Wednesday, November 29, suggesting a one-off shift to a Friday premiere. At a rate of one episode per week, Loki ought to conclude its six-episode run with an epic finale on November 8, assuming it hops back to Wednesdays. Alonso was represented by Glaser Weil Fink Howard Avchen & Shapiro LLP in the dispute, which went public on March 24. The office of Alonso's attorney Patricia Glaser had no comment on the settlement when contacted by Deadline today. Disney did not return a request for comment. Bracing For The Bloodbath: Disney Layoffs To Resume Monday https://deadline.com/2023/04/disney-layoffs-coming-tv-film-departments-1235329916/ From April 24-27, Mouse House employees in film and TV will lose their jobs every day (except Friday). A rep for Disney declined to comment. The sweeping layoffs are among the first major moves for Bob Iger since his surprise return as Disney CEO in late November. This round will get Disney close to the 7,000 goal. Virtually every Disney Entertainment entity — TV networks and studios, and film studios — is expected to be affected in a significant way. Iger confirmed in March that three rounds of layoffs would occur as the company looks to reduce its workforce by about 7,000 employees in an effort to reach $5.5 billion in overall cost savings. The initial round came a few days before the company's annual shareholder meeting on April 3 and involved a consolidation of production operations across Disney TV Studios, Hulu, Freeform, and FX and the shutdown of the studio operations' Creative Acquisitions department. Network programming and studio marketing are believed to be among the areas that will take a hit this time, and there will be a new round of cuts at ABC News. The remnants of the dismantled Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution are an obvious target, too. And then there is Hulu. The parts of the company focused on streaming are particularly on edge given the mounting intrigue about Disney's plans for Hulu, particularly since it contributed to overall losses in streaming of $1.5 billion in the most recent quarter. Sources say Hulu will either become part of Disney+ or sold, most likely to Comcast because they have a 33% financial stake. Hasbro's quick to note, however, that they aren't canceled, but “resting.” There's a chance for a return at some point in the future, but not any time soon. "The fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them," Feige said. "Moon Knight, same thing. During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Feige was asked if there were any updates on Spider-Man 4, following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. I'm very proud of the Ms. Marvel show. I also know — and this is a spoiler — she essentially steals The Marvels, which is coming out [July 28]. It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+." The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali as the famous vampire hunter, will shoot in about two and a half months, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Feige was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the MCU's Phase Five, which begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and ends with an all new Blade in late 2024. When asked if he had any updates on Blade, Feige didn't disclose many details but confirmed that the film is moving along smoothly. "It's going well," Feige said. "Our director Yann [Demange] is down in Atlanta right now. Cameras roll in, like, the next 10 weeks or so." Insider reports previously claimed that Blade wouldn't begin shooting until July, but Feige's projected start date of 10 weeks means the movie will begin shooting this spring. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the ever-expanding scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pointing out that it was necessary to release a wide variety of films and television shows while noting that not everything would necessarily appeal to everyone. "If there's a Marvel Studios method -- like there was a Marvel method in publishing -- it's trying to do both," Feige told Entertainment Weekly when asked about balancing ongoing MCU story threads with capturing new audiences. "I've talked about this for years: If you want to dip in and out and just go to the movies on a Friday night or watch a streaming series, you can do that. And if you want to follow along, there's certainly much more to be discovered. But we don't ever want it to seem exclusive or that you need to have done your homework before watching something. Now, I've also realized that a lot of people like to do the homework. A lot of people find the fun in the homework and the continuity and the connectivity. But it is a balance of always trying to do both." Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new U.S. President. Feige confirmed that Ross will move into the Oval Office in Captain America: New World Order in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "[Ross is] the President of the United States in the film," he said. "And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will play an essential role in the highly-anticipated Thunderbolts movie. Speaking with EW, Feige teased that Bucky Barnes will become the de facto leader of this group of complicated individuals who don't even consider themselves heroes. "What's fun about that [Thunderbolts film], and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes," Feige said. "None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down." According to Kevin Feige, the 'Previously On' recap could be less important for upcoming Marvel TV shows as they might experiment with more traditional episodic structures. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige stated that "[w]e want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained." He pointed to watching episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation to illustrate the pleasures of less overarching TV storytelling: "I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we're going to keep experimenting with that going forward." It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+." The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali as the famous vampire hunter, will shoot in about two and a half months, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Feige was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the MCU's Phase Five, which begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and ends with an all new Blade in late 2024. When asked if he had any updates on Blade, Feige didn't disclose many details but confirmed that the film is moving along smoothly. "It's going well," Feige said. "Our director Yann [Demange] is down in Atlanta right now. Cameras roll in, like, the next 10 weeks or so." Insider reports previously claimed that Blade wouldn't begin shooting until July, but Feige's projected start date of 10 weeks means the movie will begin shooting this spring. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new U.S. President. Feige confirmed that Ross will move into the Oval Office in Captain America: New World Order in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "[Ross is] the President of the United States in the film," he said. "And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the ever-expanding scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pointing out that it was necessary to release a wide variety of films and television shows while noting that not everything would necessarily appeal to everyone. "If there's a Marvel Studios method -- like there was a Marvel method in publishing -- it's trying to do both," Feige told Entertainment Weekly when asked about balancing ongoing MCU story threads with capturing new audiences. "I've talked about this for years: If you want to dip in and out and just go to the movies on a Friday night or watch a streaming series, you can do that. And if you want to follow along, there's certainly much more to be discovered. But we don't ever want it to seem exclusive or that you need to have done your homework before watching something. Now, I've also realized that a lot of people like to do the homework. A lot of people find the fun in the homework and the continuity and the connectivity. But it is a balance of always trying to do both." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will play an essential role in the highly-anticipated Thunderbolts movie. Speaking with EW, Feige teased that Bucky Barnes will become the de facto leader of this group of complicated individuals who don't even consider themselves heroes. "What's fun about that [Thunderbolts film], and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes," Feige said. "None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down." According to Kevin Feige, the 'Previously On' recap could be less important for upcoming Marvel TV shows as they might experiment with more traditional episodic structures. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige stated that "[w]e want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained." He pointed to watching episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation to illustrate the pleasures of less overarching TV storytelling: "I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we're going to keep experimenting with that going forward." When it comes to upcoming projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has one, in particular, he's most looking forward to. We talked about Kang Dynasty as related to Quantumania," Feige told Entertainment Weekly, referencing the MCU's current storylines and reflecting on future projects. "The only other one in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We sort of talked about mutants and that whole aspect to the Marvel world, but Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. Announced alongside a brand-new teaser poster for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel, The Marvels is now scheduled to open in theaters on Nov. 10. This is the fifth release date for The Marvels, which was originally scheduled to open back in July 2022. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was delayed to November 2022 and then February 2023. Marvel Studios had previously had the film set to open on July 28 for this latest delay. No reason was given by Marvel Studios for the film's delay; however, a recent report has claimed that Marvel is looking at having more breathing room between MCU projects to prevent audience fatigue as well as allow the creative times more time in post-production. The report mentions that the Disney+ series Echo and Ironheart are no longer guaranteed to debut in 2023 because of these changes and that development on other projects -- like the rumored Nova series -- will slow down. However, the insiders did not mention if the MCU films would be affected by this decision, so it is impossible to say if that is the reason for The Marvels' delay until Marvel Studios confirms the report, which it has yet to do at the time of writing.
