Was Jesus incorrect when He was sharing the Parable of the Mustard Seed that is recorded in Matthew 13:31-32? He claims that the mustard seed is the smallest of all the seeds and that it will grow into a tree that is larger than all the plants. But though the seed is indeed quite small, it will only grow to a tree about eight feet tall. Is this an error in the Bible? Or is there a reasonable explanation as to why Jesus said this? Jesus was not just a wise teacher or a prophet, He was, and is, the Son of God. In today's passage we see Jesus defending this claim. His equality with God is equal in person, works, and even power to raise people from the dead. He can do all things that the Father can do and cannot do what the Father cannot do – sin. God, and therefore Jesus, cannot do anything that would go against their character of being pure and holy. Some people struggle with the accuracy of the New Testament, while some don't believe it at all and treat it like another ancient mythological tale. Others like some parts of it, while disliking other parts. And some believe that it is not trustworthy due to all the supposed contradictions that we find in the ancient manuscripts. Many critics say that Jesus never claimed to be God, but in today's passage, He does indeed make that claim. Jesus is equal to God and He is the Son of God. We know this to be true by observing the reaction of the Jewish leaders and Jesus' disciples and by studying the meaning of the ancient Eastern language. Many people, even some Christians and pastors, believe that the days of Creation, as recorded in Genesis, was not literal 24-hour days but instead epics or eras that were actually millions of years long. Located in Jerusalem, the Temple Mount resides on what used to be known as Mount Moriah and over the years it has been a place of many historical events. Throughout history it has changed hands many times and today is a place of great importance to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Due to all the history that is stored there, laws were put in place that banned any excavating from taking place at the site. But in 1999, an illegal excavation began which involved the careless removal of piles of dirt from under the Temple Mount. To preserve the relics that were found there, The Temple Mount Sifting Project began. Since then, 85 percent of the debris has been sifted through, though much of it remains to be studied. In the last episode, we studied the findings from a variety of tests that were done on the Shroud of Turin to determine its authenticity. Now today, we challenge it against the most important source, the Word of God. If it does not line up with the Bible, then we know it can not be accurate. In today's lesson we meet the Roman official whose son is terminally ill. Desperate, the man asks Jesus to heal his boy but is instead softly rebuked by Jesus. The official's faith was shallow and was dependent on witnessing Jesus perform a miracle. But Jesus asks us to have a deeper faith than that. As we read in Numbers 20, God punishes Moses for the sin he committed by stating that he would not be allowed to enter the Promised Land. Why was God so harsh with Moses?
