Resources & Inspiration for LGBTQ Christians, Church Leaders, and Allies
Queer Theology / Brian G. Murphy & Shannon T.L. Kearns
The Queer Theology podcast is an incredible resource for LGBTQ+ individuals who are seeking to integrate their faith with their sexual orientation or gender identity. As a newly out Christian in the midst of discernment, I am so grateful to have come across this podcast. The hosts, Brian and Fr. Kearns, along with their guests, have been instrumental in pulling me out of dark places and helping me learn to love and accept myself fully. This podcast has truly been a lifeline for me.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to address the intersectionality of queerness and Christianity in a compassionate and affirming way. It does not waste time debating whether queer Christians have a right to exist in the church; instead, it focuses on how a queer perspective can inspire and transform the lives of LGBTQ+ Christians, as well as cisgender heterosexual Christians who are open to fresh insights. The episodes cover a wide range of topics, from biblical interpretations to interviews with Jewish leaders and teachers, providing valuable insights into different religious perspectives.
However, one potential downside of this podcast is that it may not resonate as strongly with those who come from non-affirming traditions or hold conservative views on LGBTQ+ issues. While the hosts make efforts to provide inclusive perspectives, there may still be some listeners who do not feel fully seen or represented. Additionally, some episodes may delve into more academic discussions that could be challenging for those without a strong background in theology or biblical studies.
In conclusion, the Queer Theology podcast is an incredibly important resource for anyone interested in integrating their Christian faith with their sexuality or gender identity. It provides a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to explore their spirituality without shame or fear of rejection. Through thoughtful conversations and fresh perspectives, this podcast offers inspiration and support for queer Christians on their spiritual journeys. I am truly grateful for the work that Brian and Fr. Kearns do through this podcast and would highly recommend it to others.
