What I finally learned was that healing my relationship with myself was the real transformation." -Lauren Rojas What if the hardest part of weight loss isn't the food—it's the emotional story you've been carrying your entire life? In this special episode, Adam turns the tables and shares his own story - recorded as a guest on the Tom Talks podcast, hosted by Tom, who lost his brother Liam to suicide in 2015 and built his show around stories of overcoming adversity. It's one of the most personal and in-depth interviews Adam has done. He opens up about the moments that shaped him: going from an affluent childhood and private school to living in the back of a transport café after his dad lost everything; leaving school with a single GCSE and a "U" in everything else; and how being written off academically lit a fire that drove him to build businesses generating over £100 million in sales and earn three consecutive London Stock Exchange recognitions. Along the way, Adam gets practical - breaking down the four stages of business (startup, growth, scale, exit), why people fail by applying "scale strategies" too early, and how relationship capital and simply having more conversations changed everything. He also reflects candidly on the £1 million it cost him to close a business at 31, the relief that came with closure, and why self-belief - and sometimes the right words from the right person - matter most when you're at rock bottom. A raw, honest conversation about resilience, mindset, and the belief that life happens for you, not to you. In this episode: Why early adversity became the source of Adam's drive Finding your strengths when school says you're "no good" The four stages of business and the strategy mistakes that stall growth Relationship capital: why business is "mathematical, not magical" What it really feels like to lose £1M - and bounce back Advice for anyone facing exams, setbacks, or starting over If you get value from this episode, please leave a five-star review and share it - it's the best way to help us reach and support more business owners.

If you've ever felt like you were drowning while everyone around you seemed just fine, this one's for you.More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/noah-mayNoah May has lived with depression since he was 13 years old. He was bullied relentlessly, watched his grandmother disappear into Alzheimer's, grew up without a father, and by the time anxiety hit at 18, the physical toll was so severe he lost 20 pounds, could barely open a bottle and his legs shook walking down stairs. This is his story, and he's not holding anything back.In this episode of Even Tacos Fall Apart, Noah opens up about what those early years actually looked like, not the cleaned-up version, but the real one. The suicidal thoughts at 13. The porn addiction he developed as a coping mechanism. The friends who looked right through him. The teachers who didn't do much better. And the moment his mom caught him, sat him down and instead of just punishing him, asked what was really going on. That one conversation changed everything.Noah talks about being diagnosed with clinical depression at 14 and anxiety at 18, what it felt like to finally have names for what his body had been doing, and why he waited years to try therapy because he genuinely believed it was only for people who were "crazy." He also gets into the physical reality of an anxiety disorder that most people don't talk about, the kind that doesn't show up as a panic attack but as months of unexplained nausea, dramatic weight loss and a doctor who had no idea what was wrong. The conversation also goes into what his healing looks like in practice. For Noah, it's been podcasting, writing poetry, finding the right medication and building a support system from scratch after leaving behind a high school class that never really saw him. He's candid about the fact that most of those people still haven't reached out, and that he's made peace with it.Noah is a journalism graduate from Auburn University and the host of the Lethal Venom podcast. He's turned his own pain into a platform for other people who are still in the thick of it, and his whole thing is simple: you shouldn't have to feel alone in this.If you've ever felt invisible, been told to just get over it or wondered whether things actually get better, this episode is for you. Keywords: depression, anxiety, mental health, depression and anxiety, overcoming depression, mental health podcast, living with depression, teen depression, clinical depression, mental health awareness, depression recovery, anxiety symptoms, mental health journey, Even Tacos Fall Apart, Noah May

Breaking The Silence with Dr Gregory Williams Youth Foster Care, Social Workers and the Juvenile Justice System Guest, Journey Ishmon This Week's Guest is Journey Ishmon. Journey is a first-generation college student at the university of North Texas studying social work and maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She has a strong focus on advocacy for youth in foster care. Her work is shaped by lived experience inside the foster care system and juvenile justice system that strengthen her commitment to supporting children impacted by systemic harm. If you wish to get into contact with Journey, invite her to speak at an event or interview Journey. Feel free to contact her at her email: ishmonjourney91@gmail.com Dr. Gregory Williams hosts social work student and advocate Journey Ishmon to explore the profound pressures facing modern youth and the systemic failures of the foster care system. The discussion highlights the critical importance of breaking the silence surrounding personal trauma and demonstrates how lived experience can be transformed into a powerful engine for social reform. Invisible Burden of Modern Youth Today's youth face a unique landscape of pressure that differs significantly from previous generations, primarily driven by the omnipresence of social media and heightened societal expectations. Dr. Williams notes that young people often feel a relentless need to succeed and "fit in," which is exacerbated by the digital age where every mistake can be broadcasted and archived forever. This environment fosters a "masking" culture, where individuals smile publicly while struggling privately with anxiety and isolation. Journey Ishmon corroborates this, noting that social media creates a false standard of perfection that makes real-life struggles feel shameful and isolating. Navigating the Failures of Foster Care Journey Ishmon's personal narrative reveals the harrowing realities of a system that often prioritizes placement over well-being. Entering foster care at age 13 due to domestic violence and neglect, Journey experienced 10 different placements over four years. Her time was largely spent in group homes and emergency shelters rather than traditional family settings. She describes environments where basic rights like privacy and safety were compromised, including facilities where doors were locked from the inside and windows were bolted with plastic. Despite her "basic" care level and high academic performance, her pleas for a safer environment were frequently minimized or ignored by caseworkers and the system at large. Turning Pain into Purpose Despite the systemic harm she endured—including a period of being over-medicated with antidepressants to "manage" a poor environment—Journey maintained a 4.0 GPA and is now a social work student at the University of North Texas. Her advocacy focuses on the shortage of foster homes and the need for "safety nets" that prevent children from entering the juvenile justice system. She emphasizes that while her trauma was temporary, her commitment to changing the system is permanent. Journey now works with programs like PUSH to support foster care alumni in higher education, ensuring that their voices, which were once silenced, are now heard at the highest levels of policy. The dialogue between Dr. Williams and Journey Ishmon serves as a stark reminder that while the foster care system is often "failed," individual resilience and advocacy can forge a path toward healing. Journey's story underscores that a person's history does not define their identity, and that "breaking the silence" is the first step in turning life's pain into life's purpose.

#220 - Behind every great joke is a real story and Danny Johnson's story explains why his stand-up feels both clean and dangerously close to losing its cool. We talk about how he grew up in a loud Long Island family where roasting was basically a love language, and how that early chase for attention turned into a lifelong craft built on timing, authenticity, and connection. If you've ever wondered what makes an audience laugh at the exact same moment, Danny breaks it down in plain terms. We get nerdy about the comedy writing process: how a quick idea becomes a real bit, why research matters more than people think, and how Danny uses “filters” to find new angles on everyday frustrations. He also shares one of the most underrated tools in public speaking and stand-up comedy: silence. The pause can be the laugh, and learning to embrace it can change the entire energy of a room. Then we go personal. Danny opens up about weight swings, rebuilding confidence, eating well while traveling, and quitting drinking after realizing his time wasn't matching his goals. We also talk about the upside and difficulty of clean comedy, corporate gigs, church venues, and why he's focused on growing an engaged social media audience with original material, plus more voiceover and acting work. In this powerful and heartfelt conversation, Stephen and Julie Wagstaff share the story behind SwagAbility, a mission born from hardship, faith, and a desire to help others navigate life's most difficult moments. After a diving accident at 19 left Stephen a quadriplegic, and decades later a mysterious illness resulted in a seven-month hospital stay, the couple began asking an important question: How can our experiences help someone else who is facing a life-changing moment? What started as a simple online video has grown into a nonprofit focused on encouragement, education, and real relational support for people navigating disability, caregiving, and adversity.Stephen and Julie open up about the realities of caregiving, including the often-unspoken struggle of caregiver burnout. Julie shares how isolation and lack of communication nearly cost them their marriage, and how learning to ask for help and prioritize self-care transformed their relationship. Together they emphasize the importance of community, honest conversations, and remembering that no one is meant to carry life's burdens alone. The couple also discusses their growing podcast network and their mission to walk alongside people dealing with disabilities, illness, grief, and unexpected life changes. Through storytelling, coaching, and practical support, including help accessing assistive technology, SwagAbility seeks to remind people that even in the hardest seasons, purpose, hope, and joy are still possible. To connect with Stephen and Julie, visit https://swagability.com/Want to be a guest on Life Stories Podcast? In this episode of the Covenant Eyes Podcast, host Theo McManigle welcomes filmmaker, musician, and storyteller Rick Altizer to discuss his newest documentary, He Calls Me Daughter. Building on themes introduced in his earlier film Show Me the Father, Rick explores how broken or distant relationships with earthly fathers can deeply shape the way people relate to God.Rick shares the heart behind the film and how a season of prayer led him to create a project specifically designed to help women process father wounds and rediscover their identity as beloved daughters of God. Through powerful testimonies and interviews with leaders such as Alex Kendrick, Shonda Pierce, Meg Meeker, and others, the documentary highlights both the pain of fractured father relationships and the hope found in the gospel. The conversation also addresses how fathers, husbands, and men more broadly can play a role in healing. Rick explains how behaviors that objectify women can create spiritual barriers that make it harder for wounded women to trust Christ. Ultimately, the film points viewers back to the truth that God's fatherhood is perfect, unchanging, and rooted in unconditional love. This episode offers encouragement for fathers, daughters, and families alike—reminding listeners that while earthly fathers may fail, the love and identity offered through Christ remain secure.✨ Episode Topics Discussed• Rick Altizer's background as a recording artist and documentary filmmaker• The inspiration behind the documentary He Calls Me Daughter• How father wounds affect identity and spiritual life• Why many women struggle to relate to God as Father• The difference between being a “human doing” versus resting in identity• How men's behavior can influence how women view God• Practical ways fathers can build stronger relationships with daughters• The importance of listening, apologizing, and being emotionally present• How the gospel restores identity and healing for wounded hearts• Using film, curriculum, and counseling resources as tools for healing

About This Episode Havva is the author of the beautiful poetry book A Voice, and in this conversation, we go deep into grief, loss, healing, signs from the other side, and the power of simply showing up for the people we love. Havva shares the story of losing her father suddenly and unexpectedly, the seismic trauma it caused, and the remarkable signs and dreams that followed. From a white feather standing upright beside her car door to vivid dreams where her dad appeared younger, full of life, and full of messages — Havva's story will leave you breathless. She also opens up vulnerably about her own mental health journey, and shares incredibly wise, compassionate advice for moms supporting teenage daughters through depression. And yes — she reads her poetry live on the episode. Including the stunning poem 777, about wishing there was an emergency line between here and heaven. Bring tissues. What We Cover Losing her father suddenly to a heart attack and the shock that followed The powerful signs and dreams she received from her dad after his passing Why she still has her dad's number saved in her phone — and why you shouldn't be quick to erase a memory Her raw, honest journey with mental health and the people who helped her through it Advice for mamas supporting teenagers struggling with depression — including the importance of holding space vs. trying to fix things Two beautiful poems read live from A Voice Her upcoming song, "Psycho" — dropping soon! In this episode of Barely Famous, Kail sits down with Victoria Smith, a domestic violence survivor turned “survivor life coach” who now helps women rebuild after they've gotten out. What starts as a conversation about leaving unsafe relationships quickly expands into the parts people don't always talk about: the long-term impact on confidence, identity, finances, parenting and why “just leave” is rarely that simple.Victoria shares how surviving years of control and escalation reshaped the way she sees boundaries, safety, and healing, and why she eventually shifted her focus toward supporting survivors on the other side of crisis. Kail also opens up about her own experience navigating the system, the public misunderstanding around domestic violence, and the complicated reality of being judged for choices you make while you're still trying to survive. It's a heavy but honest conversation about domestic violence recovery, trauma, addiction as a coping mechanism, and what it actually takes to reclaim your life and protect your kids after everything changes.
