Canon Fodder Episode 47: Final Destination by The Revue Podcast Network
The boys talk Wrestlemania memories, cheese shops and the joy that they bring, and of course, tacos and hot sauce.
This month's episode of Canon Fodder dives into the world of Kingsman. Did you know that this movie series started as a comic book? Betcha didn't. Ed, Pat, and Matt give you all of the details and all of the fodder. Come have a glass of Statesman Whiskey with us.
On episode 197 of Talking Tacos the boys talk about their first tattoo experience. We have a new hot sauce and plenty more!
How do you pronounce Costco? Do you incorrectly put an 's' at the end of Best Buy or Barnes and Noble? You're all idiots and the boys explain why.
Welcome to wacky and zany world of The Goon! As usual, Mike came in with a killer recommendation that we just ate up. Like a fun old-timey monster flick except the monsters can also be mobsters and there's evil doctors. There are so many amazing classic storytelling elements just mashed into one here and we loved every single page.
On episode 195 of Talking Tacos the boys turn heel. That's right after decades, John Cena has finally done it. But what makes it so impactful? We talk about how for decades and even today, professional wrestlers in the WWE carry MASSIVE star power both in and out of the ring and their impact goes far beyond what the media might have you suggest. Tune in!
On episode 194 of Talking Tacos the boys are banned from serving Italian food in a strip mall. Two local businesses in Monmouth County are going at it over a lease agreement and the exclusive rights to serve Italian food. We also welcome back the Formula 1 season for 2025. And Loteria returns! With a new look and a bangin new menu, the boys make their triumphant return.
Horror movies have really improved over the last few years. Less common is that formulaic supernatural horror that relies on the same generic storyline and a bunch of jump scares. Heretic and The Substance are two truly unique and incredible horror movies helmed by actors at the top of their games.
On episode 193 of Talking Tacos the boys talk FOMO and drinking techniques. We try a new sauce from Mad Man Hot Sauces, the OG Hot Sauce, and god damn it was good!
Matt and Will are back with another annual recap, going over their best and worst of 2024. Plus some honorable mentions! As usual, we ate good as movie fans in 2024, but we also stomached some true garbage. We break it all down here!
On episode 192 of Talking Tacos the boys sit down with Mike Ham from Greetings from the Garden State and Radio Garden State.
On episode 191 of Talking Tacos the boys have a gentlemen's dinner at Barrio Costero. That's right, a rare podcast at the Green Room at Barrio Costero. We review TWO hot sauces on this episode, a Prototype sauce from Singularity and a special sauce for fish from Claswback hot sauce. We talk new F1 team liveries and rules for the 2025 season, DOJ drops ridiculous cases like the one against Vince McMahon, killer coolers that cut off fingers, and much more.
Did you know that there is a comic book of the movie Wanted? Did you know that it's absolutely batshit in a completely different way than the movie is batshit? Well Matt and Mike Read Comics and on episode 24 we read the entire series of Wanted for you, so you don't have to. Listen in!
Episode 126 of Flickin' It with Matt and Will is fresh out of the theater seeing the latest entry in the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World. This movie is getting levels of hate that we simply don't understand. Let us tell you why this is a good (not great) addition to the MCU. Leave all of the haters at the door.
Episode 125 of Flickin' It with Matt and Will is a catch all episode where we go over Agatha, Furiosa, Deadpool and Wolverine, Twisters, and so much more. We saw a lot of movies and have so much to catch up on!
On episode 190 the boys...well, you can read the title. That's it. No notes. Get fucked ICE.
Episode 45 of Canon Fodder is served with fava beans and a nice Chianti. That's right, it's Hannibal. Ed, Pat, and Matt get right into the twisted world of serial killers and cannibalism by taking you through the surprisingly deep breadth of Hannibal content. From the first on-screen appearance of Thomas Harris's characters in Michael Mann's Manhunter all the way through the recent and exceptional series with Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal, Will Graham, and others are characters that have stood the test of time.
On episode 189 of Talking Tacos the boys get inaugurated. We talk about how to properly name things LIKE PORK ROLL - but also sports stadiums - smuggling drugs in whales, Elon Musk's you-know-what gesture, Ross Ulbricht is freed, Trump vows to release MLK/JFK files (yea fucking right), fake meme coins, and so much more. Get after the weird.
On episode 188 of Talking Tacos the boys learn Mandarin because apparently everything is a Chinese spy app or whatever. Idiots. Morons. Tik Tok is not a Chinese spy app, but RedNote probably is. But also who cares? Instagram and Twitter spy on us just fine. We exit the shelter and try out a hot sauce from Coney Island Saucery that was made in partnership with the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime. We also chat Beast Games - as in Mr. Beast - and a double dose of fraud! Elon Musk is busted for not actually being a good gamer and we're shocked, they said sarcastically, and some dick bag scams a poor old woman out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by convincing her that she was dating Brad Pitt.
Episode 23 of Matt and Mike (and Melissa) Read Comics is a one-off from one of our favorite authors, Cullen Bunn. The Midnite Show. An homage to the midnight showing of horror movies of old, the story begins with legendary horror director Basil Saxon (best name ever) working on his magnum opus when a tragic fire destroys the production. The movie is, allegedly, never finished and lost to history. Until the present when what was thought to be lost footage has been found and is now being shown at a - you guessed it - midnight show! But the movie is cursed, and famed monsters of old start popping up in the real world and a group of civilians is stuck in the middle. Bodies drop EVERYWHERE. Just when you think you know who the main character, the hero, is - BOOM - fucking dead. Loved every panel of this book.
Flickin' It with Matt and Will takes to the western sky with Wicked. But because Matt doesn't give a shit, episode 124 of Flickin' It is with Will and MELISSA. We all saw this movie together and Matt slept through a lot of it, but don't worry, Will and Melissa were hugging and crying and screeching the entire time. Listen to Will and Melissa dig into the movie and get hyped for the sequel in 2025. Don't worry, True Revuers, Matt will return in the next episode!
On episode 187 of Talking Tacos the boys are BACK! New year, same boys. Bill and Campbell are fighting. Matt has hot takes. Kung Fu Joe is back! On this week's episode we discuss which cheesecake is better, Italian or New York, and desserts in general. We also discuss mafia-style practices for hiding money in freezers with raw meat, reading habits, styles of fictional writing, and MATT IS THE 2024 FANTASY FOOTBALL CHAMPION BEATING BOTH JABRONIS BILL AND CAMPBELL. We also try a new hot sauce for a good cause from our friends at Old Boney. It's a SUPER Tuesday some come join us.
On episode 186 of Talking Tacos the boys enjoy the healthcare system. LULZ. Listen, all sympathies aside, this is good memery. Aside from the obvious healthcare related news, we have some fun chats about gun laws and the insanely obvious pardon of Hunter Biden. There's drones in NJ and we try some hot sauces. Fun shit all around on a wild Tuesday!
Flickin' It with Matt and Will once again tortures ourselves with a Sony Spider-Man property. Venom: The Last Dance caps off what is easily the best property of the Sony Spider-Man universe, but that's not saying much. Despite the wonderful banter and heartwarming relationship between Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and Venom, the haphazard and lazy storytelling of the entire trilogy has left much to be desired. This movie, however, does give us something that we didn't know we needed, the Venom Avengers, and it was easily the coolest part of the movie. Only one Sony property left to go! But we're sure Kraven will also suck.
On episode 185 of Talking Tacos the boys visit Loteria. Our old friends! We still got to hang the flag. Nachos and shrimp quesadilla still fuck. Bill gets obliterated by a Jersey Girl hot sauce and we talk about our usual shenanigans. Slide up to the table please!
Episode 22 of Matt and Mike (and Melissa) Read Comics dives into Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men. On the heels of Grant Morrison's bizarre, confusing, and often downright boring run on New X-Men, the camp and straightforward superhero storytelling of Joss Whedon was a true breath of fresh air. The classic yellow-and-blue themed suits are back. A new team is formed. A new villain arrives from another planet with a cryptic message about the power of a mutant destroying their homeworld. And on top of all of that, a “cure” for mutants. And…AND in a stroke of brilliant storytelling Whedon pulls off a move that has since been so reused that it almost feels stale, but when this book came out it was a truly remarkable comic moment - the return of Colossus. A character that had been dead in comics for years makes a stunning and cinematic return in Astonishing X-Men. Whedon and the late John Cassady craft one of the best X-Men storylines in the 21st century with Astonishing X-Men and you all should be reading this.
On episode 122 of Flickin' It with Matt and Will we spend a night with Joker in what is, so far, one of the worst movies of the year. Seriously. There are few things redeeming about this batshit crazy “musical”. Normally we like batshit crazy, but this is crazy in all the wrong ways. Peaks and valleys in tonal shifts and absolutely no semblance of a plot aside from the protracted trial of Arthur Fleck. Brendan Gleeson as the hard-ass-but-sometimes-kinda-cool security guard? Did not see that coming. We truly think that Todd Philips and Joaquin Phoenix just said FUCK IT ALL when making this movie. Would not recommend.
On episode 184 of Talking Tacos the boys are joined by Mike from Little Andy's burgers, a delicious pop-up in Confections of a Rockstar in Asbury Park. We also recap the kayfabe AS FUCK Tyson/Paul fight, make plans to fake our own deaths, and rip into tone-deaf John Stamos for wearing a bald cap in "solidarity" for Dave Coulier (who was recently diagnosed with cancer).
On episode 183 of Talking Tacos the boys vote didn't count. Because voting doesn't actually matter in federal elections. but god damn was that a wild ride. The election went as you'd expect if you were paying even a little bit of attention. On the plus side, we sample a DELIGHTFUL hot sauce from our old friends at Butch's hot sauce. These guys never miss.
Episode 21 of Matt and Mike (and I guess Melissa) Read Comics takes place in the world of Planetary. A byproduct of the early days of Image, and Wildstorm in particular, Planetary ranks as one of the most unique comics that we've ever read. Masterfully crafted storytelling by Warren Ellis and the late John Cassady with deeply flawed yet likable characters, Planetary truly takes you on a ride. You aren't immediately certain where that ride is taking you, but as the layers eventually fall back and the story truly begins to blossom and connect, you see why this series is so well regarded. We had a lot of fun reading this one.
On episode 182 of Talking Tacos the boys vote! Because voting is cool! And when you vote you magically fix all of the problems that the government has caused in the first place! Just kidding. You should vote but it's not going to fix shit. You're still going to be taxed into oblivion and have to watch that money be wasted on foreign wars and corporate bailouts while listening to politicians tell you that they care about you. Aside from that, we have a banger sauce from Swamp Dog sauces and we make fun of a San Francisco-based company and their silly bunk beds for tech morons that make a six figure salary and still can't afford to live in that stupid city. Thank god for Tuesdays, amirite??
The latest episode of Canon Fodder goes into the underworld with the Beetlejuice universe. Like many of you, we remember the Beetlejuice cartoon show before the movie itself because that's what us millennials did - watched cartoons. With the latest entry into the universe, Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara return for an even wackier romp than the first time around. Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe round out a darkly hilarious cast in a movie filled with plenty of gags and heart and, of course, connections to canon!
On episode 180 of Talking Tacos the boys are on death row, but just for the food. We talk about famous last meals from convicts on death row and talk about what our favorite last meals would be. We also learn that Bill is more likable than Campbell, but that's not news to any of us! It's your usual Tuesday shenanigans. Grab your tequila and side up to the table.
On episode 179 of Talking Tacos the boys evade taxes. Listen up you IRS fucks. We talk about the absurdity of the MoCo real estate marker, Bill gets a mail order bride, Putin on suicide watch, and we celebrate the beginning of local summer (yes, we recorded this episode a month ago).
Keep making these movies and we'll keep talking about them! In the latest installment in the Alien/Predator/Bladerunner franchise (yes they're all connected) we have the firs good Alien movie in years - Romulus. Aside from being a fantastic movie in its own right, this movie does wonders to clean up the sloppy canon triggered by Prometheus and the DREADFUL Alien: Covenant. Incredibly well acted with a healthy dose of practical effect-based horror, this is an Alien movie even for casual fans of the franchise.
On episode 121 of Flickin It we talk about the new Beverly Hills Cop, Boy Kills World, and Fall Guy. It's been a good summer for action movies! Beverly Hills Cop keeps all of the edgy and sometimes over the top action vibe of the original movies and modernizes it to great success. Fall Guy is a classic actioner with a charismatic lead in Ryan Gosling and great humor. Boy Kills World is a surprise delight. A brutal action comedy with the amazing H. John Benjamin playing the internal voice of Bill Skarsgaard's deaf/mute character.
Talking Tacos Episode 178: The Boys Are Back by The Revue Podcast Network
Flickin' It with Matt and Will is getting through the backlog with movies we've watched this summer. On episode 120 we go into some horror with Abigail, Longlegs, and Late Night with the Devil. All three movies fall into the category of horror, despite each being very unique. Starting with Abigail, this movie presented as a typical shock/jump scare horror movie that is all too common these days. What we actually got was a pleasant surprise of a horror movie where the victims are highly unlikable people who you still want to win. It also features a child actor that can gasp actually ACT! Longlegs is another win in a long string of amazing performances for Nicholas Cage. Absolutely creepy with a unique plot and a nice twist at the end, this movie will be sure to please. And Late Night With the Devil is an even more unique horror movie that is beautifully shot and acted. A perfect homage to the realism of late night tv shlock in the 70's with incredible practical effects. Three incredible horror movies that you should all check out.
That's right we have THREE Leo birthdays in August here at the Revue Podcast Network. Matt, Melissa, and mom of the podcast all have birthdays in August within about 10 days of each other. We dive into lots of fun topics like the Raygun Olympics conspiracy and Corey Feldman's epically bad guitar playing. Apparently he's a real douche. As you can guess, we do lots of tequila shots.
Flickin' It with Matt and Will is BACK! After a long globetrotting vacation, Will is back with Matt to discuss all things movies! We just got back from seeing Alien: Romulus and holy shit. It's about time we got some good Alien content. We deserve it. We had high expectations, but this movie came out even higher. A perfect blend of horror and action with a healthy dose of lore and eye-catching PRACTICAL effects; this movie has it all. Our episode is FILLED with spoilers so if you haven't seen the movie yet, don't listen. Go see it first!
On episode 176 of Talking Tacos the boys go to the Olympics. It's that time of every-two-years again where we all have to pretend like we give a shit about the charade that is the Olympics. Let's all hold hands and celebrate unity through sport or whatever while secretly trying to start WWIII. Well, at least there is some seriously meme-worthy content this year like king dick pole vaulter and the breakdancing queen from Australia.
On episode 175 of Talking Tacos the boys make a declaration! No more hot sauces (from the crazy fringe side of the hot sauce community that is). Save for a few, ya'll are fucking nuts. Like, certifiable nuts, not "let's drink a million beers" nuts. We wanna get nuts, but not that nuts. Ya nuts. Let's keep Tuesdays Tuesday!
Episode 20 of Matt and Mike Read Comics is magical. We dive into the weird world created by Neil Gaiman in the Books of Magic. Taking place in the DC universe, The Books of Magic follows young Tim Hunter as he is approached by the Trenchcoat brigade and asked to make a decision; be involved in the world of magic or not. Tim can either become the greatest magician to ever live, or the most evil. The choice would be his and familiar faces like John Constantine and Mister E are there to help show him the possible ramifications of his decision. Very much in the voice of Nail Gaiman, and featuring some of his other classic characters, this book delivers a beautiful story about choice and the future. Special guest Melissa is back on the pod!!
On episode 174 of Talking Tacos the boys are robbed of a win. That's right, we get back to talking about Formula 1 because Lando Norris (Matt's boy) was absolutely robbed of a victory. By being forced by his team to slow down and let his teammate, Oscar Piastri, close a SIX SECOND gap in order to pass for the win, Lando was robbed of a victory that was rightfully his all because the team promised poor baby Oscar that he could get a win too. Bullshit. Also, Biden dropped out of the race, which nobody saw coming, he said sarcastically. Hot sauces and fun for all!
Episode 42 of Canon Fodder goes back to the 20th Century Fox Universe and takes a wild ride. WARNING!! WHOLE ASS SPOILERS AHEAD IN THIS POST AND THE EPISODE. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE YET TURN THIS SHIT OFF RIGHT NOW. So. Welcome back to Canon Fodder. And you've seen Deadpool and Wolverine. And you are ready to talk about it. What we thought was going to be a pure X-Men movie that focused on bringing mutants more into the MCU actually turned out to be a beautiful farewell to the a semi-shared universe of 20th Century Fox and Sony. Bringing together characters like Wesley Snipes' Blade, Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Daphne Keane's X-23, and Channing Tatums NEVER BEFORE SEEN MOTHER FUCKING GAMBIT, this movie pays extreme fan service while also telling a great story that gives closure and sets the stage for more to come. The canon discussions are abound in the latest episode of Canon Fodder!
On episode 173 of Talking Tacos the boys get assassinated. You know what we're talking about. You just come to the table for the news now. Dr. Ruth died. Richard Simmons died. Shannen Doherty died. Senator Bob shitbag Menendez found guilty on all counts. What a fucking WEEK it's been. Plus we all almost die from Crumbly Kitchen's Jeepers Reapers hot sauce. It's a wild ride so make sure you strap up!
On episode 172 of Talking Tacos the boys build terminators. Because that's the latest conspiracy theory from the NY Times of all places. America is using Ukraine to test out murder robots, allegedly…dope. We're here for it. In an election year, everything is fair game. Bill gets hurt from across the pond with a new pineapple sauce from our buddy Mark at Singularity. Matt also makes his own sauce for everyone to try and IT'S GOOD!
Episode 19 of Matt and Mike Read Comics is a special occasion because we are starting on one of my favorite comic series that I've read in the last decade, Locke and Key. Written by Joe Hill and illustrated by the insanely talented Gabriel Rodriguez, this comic is a fantasy horror tale that expertly weaves in a coming-of-age story for its teen and preteen protagonists. Asking the question of “what if” in a house full of magical keys, the Locke children will learn that the imagination of a child is truly that, and that it can be deadly.
On episode 171 of Talking Tacos the boys Hawk Tuah. We didn't want to. But we did. Whether you like it or not, the country needs Hawk Tuah. We are united. But how will the Hawk Tuah story end? Will it end like Kai who was actually a sociopathic ax murderer? Or will she end up on Bravo. Give it a few weeks. We talk about bidets and the strategy of shitting at a music festival and much more. This week's sauce is from Intergalactic Hot Sauce.
It's a bird! It's a plan! It's Canon Fodder's 41st episode on (DUH) Superman!! Specifically we dive into the world of the OG. The movie upon which all future iterations of Superman have taken inspiration from, Superman: The Movie in 1978 starring Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, and Gene Hackman. And while we normally wouldn't draw attention to it, this series of movies features hands-down the greatest theme song of all time by none other than John Williams. We talk about the 5 movies in the Christopher Reeves-verse (yes there's five because the Richard Donner cut is the real deal). This is just part 1!
