“Sound Speed Action” is back with the newest episode in our countdown to Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Now we're entering Christopher McQuarrie mode with the next film: Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015).Writer and veteran Hollywood script doctor Christopher McQuarrie directs his first Mission Impossible and assembles a great team behind the camera to inject more energy into this thrill ride. Joe Kraemer delivers a pulsing orchestral score straight out of the original TV series. Eddie Hamilton joins as the wizard editor (Top Gun: Maverick, Kingsman), keeping everything moving at a fun clip.We talk about what we really enjoyed. Cruise is great, but Simon Pegg's Benji really steps up and commands his scenes. Rebecca Ferguson's debut as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust is superb—she elevates the movie with charisma and badassery. Sean Harris is fun as our super creepy villain, though it's tough to get too excited since the bar for villains hasn't been set very high. Alec Baldwin as Hunley is fantastic, and McQuarrie uses him brilliantly as a way for the franchise to poke fun at itself (“Sir, Hunt is the living manifestation of destiny—and he has made you his mission”). The Vienna Opera House sequence is a unique thrill. Some odd choices pop up—the snakeskin shirt (you'll know it when you see it), and a bad CGI car flip. But honestly, there's not much to knock.McQuarrie's been hyped up a lot on this show already, and now that we're here at his first Mission as director… what do you think? Enough action for you? We haven't even begun yet.Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is available to stream now on Prime Video and Paramount Plus. It's also available to rent and buy now on all platforms. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit sohrabsmovieq.substack.com
Argylle asks the audience an insane question: what if your books about spies could predict the future, so you got kidnapped to write more books about spies before anyone else read them? Argylle, starring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard, is a movie about a spy fiction writer who strangely predicts actual events happening in the spy world through her books. It also features Dua Lipa in all of the marketing, but she's barely in the movie! Please don't fall for the hype, the trailer is all her scenes, and then she pulls a Houdini!! Is this spin-off of the Kingsman series worth a viewing, or should it just self-destruct?Remember to join our Discord for movie nights and further podcast discussions!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In 2024, armed with a script by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age Continental Drift and Pan), director Matthew Vaughn released Argylle. Denounced by critics and audiences alike, the $200 million film didn't even gross half its budget back. Yet, the film has enjoyed a healthy presence on streaming, meaning there is a good chance Vaughn may get his wish and continue on with the Kingsman franchise. Which, this is only attached to because of its end credits scene. Otherwise, we wouldn't be reviewing it. Join Matt, Garrett, and Adam as they conclude their first leg of Marvel by reviewing what many have called the worst film of 2024. Do they agree? Also, stay tuned as the co-hosts reveal what's next on the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast slate. Hint, Adam and Matt aren't happy about it.

With The Golden Circle making almost as much as the original Kingsman movie, Fox felt like they had a franchise on its hands. Yet, director Matthew Vaughn had plans that had nothing to do with continuing the story of Eggsy. Instead, he wanted to pull a George Lucas and go back to the beginning. The result is 2021's The King's Man, a WW1 set prequel that tells the story about how The Kingsman came to be. Or does it? Join Matt, Adam, and Garrett as they review the perceived flop and determine whether the film is worth the derision it has received. And be sure to NOT play a drinking game to how many times Adam or Matt mention 2017's Wonder Woman. Otherwise you will fall dead by the podcast's end. Come back next week as the boys close out this leg of Marvel by reviewing 2024's Argylle.

After taking on Kick Ass and proving his worth with X-Men First Class, it would seem director Matthew Vaughn was primed for a career directing Marvel properties. But for reasons that are still unclear, Vaughn left X-Men Days of Future Past, and reunited with writer Mark Millar to come up with their own comic book called Kingsman. Before long, Vaughn had another property to take on and in 2015, he directed and released the feature (now) comic book film Kingsman: The Secret Service. Join Matt, Garrett, and Adam as they look at the film which has almost zero stars, yet grossed over $400 million and spawned a certified franchise. What do they feel about it, specifically Samuel L Jackson as main villain Valentine? This, and many more questions are answered in the podcast below. And come back next week as the boys continue their look at miscellaneous Marvel properties by reviewing the Kingsman sequel, 2017's Kingsman The Golden Circle.

Time to take a quick detour into yet another movie that most don't associate with Marvel. Despite being part of Disney theatrical animated features, Big Hero 6 does indeed come from the comic world. To what extent is discussed on the show. Following up Disney's Frozen was no small feat either. How did this colorful futuristic superhero tale fare for our three hosts? Listen in and come back next week as we go back to Matthew Vaughn with the first entry into Kingsman.

Wow we haven't done one of these in awhile. The next in our 2024 year end wrap lists, and we're doing a worst of list. The last time I did one of these was for 2021. But a special kind a year requires a special kind of list. Dom is joined by Luk, Kristen & Mac, newly engaged, to break down the suckiest of the suck, the absolute worst that 2024 movies had to offer, and boy were there some stinkers. The infamous Sony trinity of shit that officially killed off their cinematic Spider-Man efforts for good, Matthew Vaughn's failed attempt to make a Kingsman spinoff (sort of), Red One, Rebel Moon Part 2, some truly awful entries in the horror genre, and some that nobody had even heard of. It's another eventful list right here on the #talkintvpodcast

Taron Egerton is a massive movie star, known for his roles in the likes of the Kingsman films, the Sing films and of course, as Elton John in Rocketman. But when Dave had the chance to chat to him about his brand new Netflix film 'Carry-On', he had something else he wanted to chat to him about. And things got, well, kind of weird.

The Kingsman franchise is one of my favorites and not sure why it took so long for me to cover it on the podcast. It is currently streaming (according to IMDb.com) on abc.com, Apple TV+, fxnetworks.com, and MGM+. The first film in the franchise is The Secret Service and is about a spy organization that recruits a promising street kid into the agency's training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius. It stars Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Taron Egerton, Michael Caine, and more. It's kind of like a fast paced, edge of your seat, James Bond film. This was fun to record and I went head to head this time. Hope you enjoy this episode and all the fun sound bytes that came from it. The Kingsman Martini: Ingredients Dry Vermouth London No. 3 Gin Lemon Peel Directions Pour a bar spoon of dry vermouth in the mixing glass. Pour a generous amount of good dry gin. Add ice to the mixing glass. Stir well for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with discarded lemon peel. Drinking Game (drinkwhen.ca): Drink when... Anyone says “Kingsman” A Kingsman codename is used (Galahad, Merlin) Valentine is wearing a new hat Anyone drinks There's an explosion Extreme Version... Add “Eggsy” for an additional 60+ drinks As always, drink responsibly and with others. Follow or subscribe wherever you listen to the podcast. Is his literary superspy Argylle a stunningly accurate predictor of real-life geo-political events, or merely the invention of lovelorn novelist Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World)? And what happens when man-in-chair Sam Rockwell lets the cat out of the bag and exposes Sam Jackson, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O'Hara to be part of a network of powerful secret agents? We've talked trilogies on Baconsale before, but now it's time for us to tier them. We've created a large list of popular movie franchises and Joel, Kent, and Zack are going to rank the first batch of them. To be honest, we're a little loose with the term “trilogy,” so there are some asterisks next to the names of certain film series, but they all at least include an original and two sequels. This time around we'll be discussing such trilogies as Back to the Future, How to Train Your Dragon, Indiana Jones, Kingsman, Madagascar, Star Wars (Prequels), The Hobbit, and Three Flavours Cornetto. It doesn't matter if you're a monkey or an ape, press play to hear us make multiple sandwich comparisons.

In the comedic spy thriller Argylle, a reclusive author (Bryce Dallas Howard) gets sucked into a web of danger and intrigue when her books mirror the inner workings of a rogue spy agency. Argylle is full of globe-trotting action, with more twists than you can count. It's directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, the Kingsman movies) with a cast that includes Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Dua Lipa.
