Join us on this episode of the Ultra Catalyst podcast as we welcome the dynamic Daniel Blue. As an accomplished Entrepreneur, Podcast Host (How Winners Win Podcast), Speaker, Best-Selling Author, and Columnist (Forbes), Daniel brings a wealth of expertise to the table. In this inspiring conversation, we delve into Daniel's personal journey of resilience and determination. We explore the question: "When life knocks you down, how long will you remain on the ground before rising up with an unwavering vengeance?" Daniel opens up about a recent transformative experience where he shifted his focus from working "on his business" to working "in his business." He took a step back to evaluate various aspects of his company, gaining a deeper understanding of how problems and risks were being addressed throughout the organization. Surprisingly, he discovered that frontline and managerial employees often offer valuable insights and recommendations for improving the business, sometimes surpassing those of the leader. During our conversation, we had the privilege of delving into some remarkable aspects of Daniel's life. One standout highlight was his extraordinary running journey. Remarkably, with little training last year, Daniel fearlessly embraced the challenge and conquered numerous ultra runs, conquering daunting distances exceeding 40 and 50 miles. But that's not all—Daniel's dedication to being an involved and supportive parent shines through as well. He candidly shares his experience with co-parenting and the importance of being present for his daughter. Recently, he even took on the role of her volleyball coach, despite having no prior knowledge of the sport. True to his nature, Daniel eagerly signed up for the opportunity to spend quality time with his daughter and support her passions. Welcome to the Ultra Catalyst podcast! Today, we're talking about Goals vs. Standards! Yes, that's right, a mini deep dive into my own goals and standards from 2013 compared to 2023. It's shocking how a look-back 10 years can paint a dismal reality. Seriously, I didn't have much in terms of goals or standards, other than knocking out long, working for a paycheck, and dreaming about the next social gathering, party, or weekend vacation. The truth is I was living for a dopamine hit of acceptance from other people who were striving for the same thing. While they were great people and fun to be around, the environment kept me in a never ending spiral of depression. Year after the year, the goals were laid out crystal clear; however, at the end of each year, the score didn't change much. It felt like I was a hamster running on a spinning wheel. Fast-forward 5 to 10 years, let's say present day now. I've been developing better habits, thoughts, systems and processes, and actions, all which now translate into higher standards. In turn, these standards drive my actions towards the goals of tomorrow. I can see clearly how I create opportunities by being prepared and ready the next before, in many cases. It takes the guess work out of attempting to figure out what I am going to wear or what exercises I need to crush at the gym. Plus, these standards are developing higher quality relationships with friends, family, and expanding the sphere of influence in my community. Take a quick pulse check on your goals. Are you operating with high quality of standards that align with your goals? If not, you have some work to do. Reach out now! Happy to help or get you in connect with someone who can. Hey friends, Stephen discusses his philosophy on "planting the flag" (a.k.a. making the investment) to pursue his goals. He first takes us on a trip back to an experience with his brother Jeff during the Santa Cruz 1/2 and full Marathon in 2018. It was epic conditions; rain, thunder, lightning, hail, and localized flooding on the streets. Nearly half of the participants threw in the towel due mother nature's extreme weather. Both Stephen and Jeff finished their respective races and immediately started thinking what's harder than this 1/2 and full marathon. Stephen and Jeff found a 1/2 Ironman within 20 minutes of getting back to the hotel. Neither had the equipment (wetsuit and bike), nor knew the training requirements to prepare for such an athletic event. They registered, paid the fees, and marked their calendars. The "how in the hell are we going to compete" in this event was an afterthought. They both knew time was ticking and they better do their research. Plus, they better getting training or else their experience was going to be much more difficult. Here's several strategies you can use to plant your flag: Identify the target. Commit to the target (paying the registration fee). Acquire the right tools. Start training and learn as you go. Give yourself permission to make mistakes, seek council, and keep moving forward. Thanks for tuning in today! What are you ready to commit to now? Reach out now! Click the like button, leave a comment, and share with your friends and family. Welcome Friends! In today's episode, Stephen discusses an experience where he was DNF'd (Did Not Finish) the Brazos Bend 100 mile ultramarathon (plus, an earlier 100 mile attempt at Crazy Mountain 100). He found his body and mind breaking down about 1/2 way through the event and understood his training for the event was sub-par. Stephen had been training solo for 4+ years, while seeking minimal council where it fit right. His ego worked against him. “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” - African Proverb Stephen cognized he needed to get back to the basics and hire a coaching specializing in strengthen training and nutrition. He knew he needed a simple-to-follow program to enable him to prepare him for several monster goals this year. He hired Justin Tidd, an online coach, Chief Sales Officer, Body Builder, and entrepreneur I met through several Arete business associates. More about Justin on a later podcast. Quick results with implementing Justin's new nutrition and strength program. In 31 days, Stephen dropped 15 lbs. and is seeing significant progress in multiples areas. I want to... (fill in the blank). You have the power inside your mind to create blueprints or imagines of the ideal life or a final version of something, maybe even the desired outcome of a situation. Visualization is a technique where you can break down the vision into manageable steps through converting energy into action. Essentially, it’s a tool to help you walk-through an action, a movement, maybe even strategizing how to approach a difficult situation. Ultimately, it helps you frame the activity and make a decision. To elevate your connection to the vision, think about how you will feel when you execute the plan. Don’t spend too much dwelling on the what-ifs, the how’s, the I don’t have xyz, focus on the outcome and how you will feel when accomplish the action.
