Sermons from the180 Church in Laval, Quebec
Ron Snow joins us with a special message.
This is part two of a message Pastor Dom shared last week (Please listen to that first). It follows a historical moment in the life of the church when a non-Jew named Cornelius begins to sense that God is up to something. We pray as you listen you'd sense God calling you to move past feelings of failure as Peter does. May God's grace find you as He did Cornelius and his family.
This week Pastor Dom continues to follow Peter and his maturity in growing through failure. As you will hear, this sermon will take us into a beautiful, yet complex, encounter that reveals the richness of God's blessings. Because it covers biblical passages, note that this is Part one of two which will follow next week. Don't FAIL, to listen in again next week - online at 11:00am or in person at 9:00am only (*special change due to bike race)
The Bible tells us that the weeks following the resurrection were filled with frustration and failure. Just like us, those with questions and doubts wondered what to do next. Listen in as Pastor Dom guides us to consider Peter's long struggles with failure. Some may resemble a struggle you are facing right now. Our prayer is that you will hear the living Jesus' promise that failure doesn't have to be fatal, for those ready to respond to God's restoring ways.
Easter is not a day for Christians, but a season of following the risen Jesus into a new way of understanding our place in His plans. Listen in as Pastor Dom launches our new resurrection series to help us change our perspective on failure in light of God's faithfulness. This will be so important for those also responding to Jesus' command to be baptized this weekend. We pray that as you listen or watch you will be sensitive to what God's promises are when moments of failure come your way.
No one saw it coming. All their beliefs about life and death had to be reconsidered if the news on the street was true. Jesus' body is gone and something just doesn't make sense. Listen in as Pastor Dom invites us to get honest about how often we resist the gift at the heart of the resurrection message as found in the Bible. We pray you would not let this Easter go by without recommitting to embrace the hope of the resurrection and your place in the purposes of God.
Christians around the world have always set apart Good Friday as a day to remember Jesus' death and the goodness of God that is revealed in that tragic event. But every year, we feel the temptation to skip Good Friday altogether to get to Easter. Join us as we explore what Jesus reveals to us about who He is on this day, and why you cannot have Easter without Good Friday.
This week marks a turning point for Jesus and His followers. Every gospel writer records the events of the last week of Jesus' life before the cross and the resurrection because they were foundational to understanding Jesus. Christians marked this Sunday as Palm Sunday to help listen and respond to what Jesus wants to show us during His last visit to Jerusalem. The city is on edge & God is up to something. May you be sensitive to what God is saying as we move into Holy Week.
As we conclude our series on the Cross this week, we will explore how Jesus leads us in trusting God to surrender what we have, for the sake of the new life that He gives to us and the world. Listen in as Willy shares how the Cross gathers people into a new trust of God.
We have been asking God to stretch our understanding of the cross. This week we explore the gift of God's strength available to us through the cross. How a tool of weakness could provide strength is not easy to see at first glance. Listen in as Pastor Dom helps us to go deep and to get serious about our need for a type of strength only God can give.
We can never appreciate the sacrifice of the cross if we don't get honest about why it was so necessary. This week we will consider how God's mercy meets us in our mess. Just like today, this was not easy for people to understand. Pastor Dom will take us through a secret meeting between Jesus and a religious leader who senses that Jesus' teaching may be revealing things about God's love, His mercy and His healing that all point to the cross.
As part of the 2nd Sunday of Lent, we want to continue to revisit key biblical themes that help us grow in our appreciation for the meaning of and mystery of the Cross. You can't go too far without dealing with the issue of suffering. Listen in as Pastor Dom revisits a difficult conversation Jesus has with His followers. May you sense God's leading to deal with your suffering and doubts related to the truth about the cross.
For years, Christians have sensed the need to move toward Easter with a special focus on the deeper meaning of the cross. This is often referred to as Lent. As a church we are starting a new series called 'Why the Cross?' to help us revisit how the Bible calls us into a deeper trust in God through suffering, solitude and surrender. Listen in as Pastor Dom launches this series.
As we wrap up our series on relationships, the Bible draws us to pay attention to different relational situations, and to those who are the most vulnerable in our culture. Join us as we explore God's vision for how relationships find new meaning in the context of the church, and as we reimagine a famous passage that's not just for weddings.
While we all need healthy relationships, they seem hard to find. That's because God created us to mature into these kinds of relationships. In our fragmented series we are asking God to show us more of His ways for our broken and messy relationships. Listen in as Pastor Dom invites us to see the gift of a relationship miracle at the heart of the gospel. We hope you listen with an open heart ready to obey and grow in your relationships.
Tune in for a special online only connection time as Pastor Dom guides us through the importance of our bodies and how healthy relationships involve our place in the bigger body we call the church.
On a daily basis we hear of painful struggles related to broken relationships. The rise in loneliness, marital conflict, and the complexities of mental health all point to our longing for a better way. Christians are not immune from the things that fragment our relationships. For this reason we are wise to let the Bible guide us into the ways that lead to healing and restoration. Listen in as Pastor Dom kicks us off with our new relationships series. May we never forget that God made us to experience healthy relationships.
For the past few weeks we've asked God to help us see that Heaven is more than just a place we go to when we die. With the guidance of Matthew's gospel, we took a deep dive into the promises Jesus offers us when we embrace His vision of life and the Kingdom of Heaven. Listen in as Pastor Dom wraps up the series with a reminder that Jesus left us a meal that we should never lose our appetite for and it's linked to the Kingdom of Heaven.
When was the last time you felt really stuck or overwhelmed? Maybe like things weren't going to change in your marriage, or business, or with your friends. When was the last time something happened that really tested your limits? What Jesus teaches us is that in those times, you may be closer to the Kingdom of Heaven than you think. In this sermon, we'll explore the first Beatitude, "blessed are the poor in spirit" by looking at the stories of the rich young ruler and the Roman centurion and how they encounter Jesus. Together we'll see how being poor in spirit is essential to entering the Kingdom of God.
Jesus' favourite way to talk about His life and ministry was found in the phrase - "The Kingdom of Heaven". Just like us, the early disciples struggled to understand what this could mean for them and their future. Listen in as Pastor Dom explains what Jesus says after His disciples ask, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" Our prayer is that you would be open to embrace how Jesus defines 'greatness' for you and for your life this year.
What do your plans for 2025 reveal about your heart? Maybe this is the year we embrace that the things of heaven are not just about where you go when you die. Listen in as Pastor Dom continues our Kingdom of Heaven series and unpacks one of Jesus' most challenging parables about the Kingdom. May this be the year for a deeper commitment to the ways of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The ‘Kingdom of Heaven' is Jesus' favourite term in Matthew's Gospel to describe what His life and ministry was all about. Many people only equate this theme with the place you go when you die, yet it is so much more than that. Listen in as we explore Jesus' message that the Kingdom is unfolding around us, and the choice between His Kingdom and the rival kingdoms of this world.
At the end of 2024 and the start of 2025, it's a natural time to reflect and make goals for the New Year. Listen in as Willy walks us through how God shows us that we can trust Him. Our hope is that your projects will be shaped by God's goodness in 2025.
While we often call Christmas 'the most wonderful time of the year', the Bible doesn't candy coat the challenges of that first Christmas. The peace, the hope, the joy we long for requires reflecting on God's invitation to worship in a way we never imagined. Listen in as Pastor Dom walks us through three reactions we all face at this time of year. Our prayer is that by listening you'd think more about when you will bow to the One in the manger.
"Can we Trust the Christmas Story ? "This question and others like it linger in the background. Advent is that time to explore what the Bible is calling us into even if that means wrestling with doubt. Listen in as Pastor Dom walks us through the need to get honest with these kinds of questions if we really want the hope of the season. May we never forget that at Advent people in the Bible remind us that there is NO true hope without Honesty.
Listen in as we celebrate with our kids and Pastor Dom shares a short message on why God is on the move among the most unexpected people because they were willing to be obedient in the chaos of this season.
In a world that bombards us with fast-paced consumerism, quick-fix solutions and other distractions, it's almost impossible for us to by surprised by the familiar Christmas story. Christians call the season leading up to Christmas ‘Advent' – a time that invites us to prepare with a sense of anticipation. Join us as the Bible points us to the new and surprising things God has in store for us even as we learn to slow down and wait on Him.
God's gracious ways have been available to Jonah every step of the way. This week Pastor Dom wraps up our series about a reminder that Jonah's emotional responses reveal deep issues that God must address. With that we are invited to get honest about the temptation to remain emotionally immature when God offers healing and hope. We pray that you are sensitive to some next steps God is calling you to take.
What makes someone worthy of being loved? This week, we'll wrestle with this challenging question as we look at Jonah's message to the Ninevites and Jesus' call to love our enemies. Jonah's story confronts us with the startling truth that God's grace is for everyone—even those we're quick to judge. Together we'll see how recognizing God's love can transform the way we see both ourselves and our enemies.
Ron Burdock visits and takes us through Jonah Chapter 2 while updating us on the Well project in Ethiopia.
Life has a way of sending storms our way. Some, unfortunately, are created by our own disobedience. Listen in as Pastor Dom kicks off a new teaching series on Jonah exploring how his disobedience distorts God's gracious ways.
We have been revisiting the important ways the Bible calls us to take holiness seriously. Listen in as Pastor Dom wraps up the series by guiding us to see how the gift of God's grace is meant to shape our longing for holiness.
As we continue our series on Holiness, we ask the question, ‘How do we actually become holy'? While it's always tempting to understand growing in holiness as something that happens away from others, the Bible points us to a kind of holiness that means a radical movement towards outsiders, the community of the church, and even those who've offended us.
The Bible describes God as being Holy, Holy, Holy. This is important, but just as important are God's gracious ways when He reveals His holiness to us, His frail creation. Listen in as Pastor Dom explores the doctrine of God's holiness, and the importance of our honesty when dealing with our lack of holiness and our tendency to tolerate hypocrisy.
Let's admit holiness is a not a topic we like talking about. One reason for this is we've lost the rich biblical promises related to a correct understanding of holiness. If you've ever been tempted to pretend or have seen others act like hypocrites, you've wondered about holiness. Listen in as Pastor Dom introduces our new teaching series on God's invitation to take holiness seriously.
We hope this series has helped you get honest about the temptation to trust and depend on other things instead of Jesus. As we wrap up this series, Pastor Dom invites us to listen to a story Jesus tells while hanging out at a house with some religious leaders. Shockingly, that warning is an invitation to sit where Jesus is the host offering us something we never even thought we needed.
Every day we are bombarded with ideas & products that offer us a picture of a fulfilled life. It's within this world that we must come back to the simple truth that those who met Jesus realized that HE was enough. Listen in as Pastor Dom introduces us to a person who never had enough money until the day Jesus came over for lunch. For the first time he could see that Jesus was enough.
This weekend marks eight years since the180 launch as an official church. Our roots are forever linked to a burden to help others see that Jesus could be enough no matter what life might throw their way. In the spirit of celebration, Pastor Dom teaches through a party where people don't have enough wine and the rich ways Jesus reveals that what He has is even better than what they imagined. We pray that as you listen, you'll hear Jesus calling you to take a deeper step of trust which always involves doing a 180: a turn from our ways to His ways.
Life's surprises can cause us to wonder if we can trust God, if He really cares, and if Jesus and His message is really enough for us. For the next few weeks we want to consider those in the Bible who wrestled with similar challenges. Approximately nine years ago the180 began as a church committed to inspire & equip people to Love Jesus and Love like Jesus. Hope you join us to learn and embrace the way of Jesus in a new and deeper way this season.
This summer series on the Proverbs has been teaching us what it means to grow a heart of wisdom. As we wrap up the series, it is still tempting to see wisdom as something that can wait until we're older. Join us as we explore this last proverb which teaches us how a life of wisdom is an act of worship that reflects God's wisdom to the world.
In a fast-paced world, it's easy to let a sense of urgency lead us into destructive patterns. Yet, through a simple, daily practice, we can make room to cultivate the wisdom of self-control.
Proverbs shows us how our words can cause harm or bring life. Our ability to speak or communicate with words reveals our inner lives in ways that sometimes surprise us. Join us this week as the Bible teaches us to speak in a new life-giving way.
Throughout the Proverbs the issue of restraint invites us to consider our thoughts and desires. This week Pastor Dom guides us through an issue that is difficult to discuss but we must. God's wisdom is meant to protect our relationships from disordered desires. Listen in as we learn that the Good news is that the wisdom of the Proverbs and the teaching of Jesus offer a better way.
This week we continue in the book of Proverbs looking at the theme of pride and the subtle ways it grips our hearts. Join us this week as the Bible teaches us to deal with pride by desiring the kind of humility that Jesus first showed us.
As we continue our summer in the Proverbs, we've arrived at a theme that is so common: the area of conflict. It is easy to forget that God cares about how we handle different relational challenges we might face in life. Listen in as Pastor Dom guides us to see how the Bible invites us to grow through conflict, not just go through conflict.
The Proverbs encourage us to reflect on the wisdom of being generous with our money, resources, and time. This week, we will explore the unique blessings God has for those who embrace generosity and learn how to recognize whether we're growing in wise generosity as followers of Jesus.
The Bible reveals that we all have a tendency to ignore good advice or miss out on God's gift of wisdom for our lives. When this happens, stubbornness, regrets, and missed opportunities to grow in wisdom become a pattern. Listen in as Pastor Dom kicks off our summer series in the book of Proverbs. As you listen, we pray that your capacity to grow in wisdom would expand and your love for Jesus would deepen.
As we try to do good, we will often encounter situations where we are ignored or discouraged. Everyone who tries to lead faces challenges. This week as we conclude our series on the letter to Titus, learn with us about how growing with Jesus helps us lead with hope and confidence that only God can give.
Because of the influence of the internet and social media, it's now easier than ever for someone to claim to be a leader and to promote a certain way of life while modelling something different behind the scenes. Listen in as we continue in the letter to Titus and explore how the Bible calls each of us, no matter our context, to a kind of leadership that is filled with integrity.
Leadership is a buzz word we hear all the time. However, the Bible calls us to think about how our inner lives are to be formed before we can be entrusted to lead in the sacred things God is doing. Listen in as Pastor Dom kicks off a three week series looking at a powerful letter to a leader called Titus. God is preparing us all to lead where we are. We hope you feel that burden as you listen and learn with us.
We conclude our series on the Church with Pastor Tyler from Cobourg Alliance.
