Prayer is an invitation to meet with the Creator in a face to face exchange. Prayer is not a wishing well, magic 8 ball, or genie in a bottle. It is engaging with the Almighty God who humbles Himself and inclines Himself to listen as we pour out our hearts before Him. We can wrestle with Him, whisper, cry out, and tell Him all the struggles without needing perfect words. David reminds us that praise is not based on receiving an answer but on remembering who God is and what He has done. Jesus showed us this life of prayer, withdrawing to commune with the Father and teaching that when you pray, the reward is Him and the relationship with Him. Prayer begins by focusing on His holiness, His kingdom, and His will, then trusting how He is providing, forgiving, and giving freedom. The veil has been torn and the invitation is open to draw near, pour out your heart, and engage with Him.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/rG-Ur7LX-F8Subscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.

A church message focused on Jesus as King and a challenge sparked by a previous talk about the church “building too much with empire and not enough with Kingdom.” John Hulse contrasts two mindsets—separation (scarcity, certainty, perfection/measurement, self-centeredness) and connection (enough, mystery, fallibility)—and says believers often read Scripture through a separation lens. Using Matthew 6:32–33 and Mark 1:14–15, he reframes righteousness and repentance as God's “way of doing and being right” and repentance as changing one's inner self and old way of thinking, not merely moral performance. John discusses identity and purpose, includes Horatio Nelson's Trafalgar prayer as an example of knowing one's “just cause,” and argues fear and perfectionism can keep people from living Kingdom. The message calls the church to recognize a kairos “now” season, examine where they are building empire versus kingdom, and become doers of the word by renewing their minds, trusting God's provision, and seeking first His Kingdom.00:00 Lifting Up Jesus & Why We're Talking Kingdom Today00:55 Empire vs. Kingdom: The Challenge That Both Excites and Scares05:44 Two Mindsets: Separation vs. Connection (Seeing Through the Lens)08:16 Spotting Separation: Scarcity, Certainty, Perfection & Self-Centered Living13:23 Seek First the Kingdom: Righteousness, Scripture, and the Mindset Shift17:55 Does Sin Separate Us? In Sermon on the Mount — Episode 2 of Straight Bible, we continue a deep verse-by-verse breakdown of one of the most important teachings of Jesus. Rather than speaking to political systems or the crowds, Christ pulls His disciples aside and reveals what the Kingdom of God actually looks like in practice — challenging modern assumptions about righteousness, discipleship, and spiritual transformation. This episode explores how the Sermon on the Mount is not merely moral instruction, but a blueprint for forming people who can live out the culture of the Kingdom. From the Beatitudes to spiritual hunger, Jesus outlines an inward transformation that produces outward change — a message that remains radically relevant today. If you've ever wondered what Jesus truly meant by righteousness, obedience, and living differently from the world, this study brings historical context, biblical clarity, and practical application together in a straightforward and accessible conversation.

When we seek first the Kingdom of God, our treasure shifts, our fears lose their grip, and our everyday lives begin to reflect the reign of King Jesus.Robin GoughFebruary 15, 2026
Fasting is us saying no to us and saying yes to Him. Jesus was getting ready to begin His ministry, and He had just fasted. Even when we are doing all the right things, it does not mean obedience will be easy. Obedience will always come with a challenge, and that challenge is our flesh. Satan tried to derail what God had for Jesus by appealing to His flesh. He knows when we are weak and wants us to take just one step off of God's path. It only takes one misstep to cost us everything. Too often we listen to our flesh, make a mess, and then cry out for God to fix it. Our heart, our emotions, and our feelings will lie to us. Satan offers what is not his to give. When he offers joy, peace, or security, remember you already possess those through Jesus. The wilderness was not a setback. It was a display of Jesus' superiority over the enemy and the beginning of a rescue mission. That mission began with a fast. It began with saying no to the flesh and yes to God. Fasting prepares us to make Spirit led decisions and to discern the perfect, pleasing will of God. Offer yourself as a living sacrifice. Learn to say no to you and yes to Him.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/k39nUfwTHfcSubscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.
As a new year begins, many people set resolutions—but what if this year's greatest resolution is spiritual? In this powerful and encouraging sermon, we explore biblical principles for a God-centered New Year through Matthew 6:33–34, 1 Corinthians 9:24–27, Hebrews 12:1–2, and 2 Kings 22:1–2. Jesus teaches us to seek first the Kingdom of God and trust Him with tomorrow. Paul challenges us to run the race with discipline and purpose. Hebrews reminds us to lay aside every weight and fix our eyes on Jesus. And King Josiah shows us that it's possible to start young—or start fresh—and still choose what is right in the sight of the Lord. In this message, you will discover how to: Make spiritual priorities your first pursuit Let go of distractions and unnecessary weights Develop discipline that leads to lasting growth Run your race with endurance and purpose Keep your focus on Jesus throughout the year Build resolutions that have eternal impact This sermon will encourage you to move beyond temporary goals and embrace eternal transformation. As a church, we are living in a season of anticipation for what God has next. But we cannot get so focused on growth as a church that we forget growth begins with individuals. At the end of the day, it comes down to how committed we are personally. The question is not just what would Jesus do, but what did Jesus do in preparation to be used by the Father? Before His public ministry began, Jesus took a step of obedience through baptism, publicly declaring His commitment to the Father's plan. Then He was led into the wilderness where He prayed and fasted. If the Savior of the world practiced obedience, prayer, and fasting in preparation, it is imperative that we do the same. A fast is the discipline of saying no to our flesh. It is not a diet. It is not an attempt to impress God or get something from Him. We don't fast to get God. We fast because we are God's. Fasting is not about holding God hostage to our plans. It is about offering all of ourselves to Him in true worship. Through prayer, fasting, and obedience, we reset our minds, renew our thinking, and align our hearts with His will. Instead of asking God to join our vision, we join His. As we prepare for what God wants to do in our church, we must first allow Him to prepare us. What does obedience look like for you right now? What does it mean to seek first God's righteousness? Scripture calls us to cultivate a hunger to know and do what is right before God, rather than relying on our own instincts or cultural assumptions. In this message, we explore how following Jesus involves learning God's way of living, growing in discernment and maturity, and allowing His righteousness to shape our hearts and lives in every area.

Why isn't the church meeting my needs? In this message, Pastor Nate Nupanga teaches why the church sent out Paul and Barnabas and how the church exists to serve Jesus and advance His Kingdom above our own desires and preferences.
As a church, we are being corporately called to a fast. Jesus never commanded fasting, but He assumed we would. In Matthew 6, Jesus does not say if you fast, but when you fast. People come to fasting from many different places, which is why we are fasting together as one body, pursuing unity and alignment. A fast is the practice of saying no to our flesh in a world that tells us to feed our desires. Fasting is not easy, and it is often misunderstood. A fast is not a diet, not a way to earn God's approval, and not an attempt to get something from God. Jesus fasted after the Father declared that He was well pleased with Him. We fast because we are God's. Fasting is an act of worship that aligns our hearts with God's will. It shifts physical hunger into spiritual hunger and helps us say no to ourselves and yes to God. As we fast together, we seek first His direction and desire to be aligned with what He is calling us to do.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/HOjsGf4W29ASubscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.

How do you respond when worry shows up? In this message, Pastor Justin Davis, breaks down what Scripture teaches about trusting God and how to you submitting your worry to God changes how you go through life's circumstances.
Fear was never meant to rule your life. When money becomes our security, anxiety takes the crown—but Jesus offers a better Kingdom. “Fear not, little flock… seek first the Kingdom.” As we trust the Father, prayer aligns our hearts, generosity releases heaven's resources, and our treasure reshapes our freedom. Part 4 of Seek First
Part 4 of Seek First
n “Seek First the Treasure,” we explored Jesus' words in Matthew 6:19–24 and the critical question of where we place our treasure and attention. Jesus does not ask if we treasure something, but where we treasure it. The central truth is this: you can build your life on what can be taken, or you can build your life on what cannot.Jesus invites us to examine our calendars, our finances, and our attention, because these reveal what we truly treasure. Earthly treasures are always vulnerable. Like thieves that steal not only possessions but also peace, time, and joy, what we build our lives on can quietly master us.The good news is that Jesus treasured us so deeply that He gave everything on the cross, positioning Himself between two thieves to purchase us as His treasure. The gospel is not about trying harder to love God, but about letting ourselves be loved by God. When we grasp that we are His treasure, our hearts begin to reorder, our attention begins to heal, and rival masters begin to loosen their grip.Takeaways from the message:Name your treasure honestly. What would genuinely upset you if you lost it? What consumes your thoughts, time, and resources?Reclaim your attention deliberately. Attention is never neutral. What we focus on forms our souls. Redirect your gaze toward Jesus, who brings light rather than darkness.Choose one costly obedience joyfully this week. Practice generosity, create space for silence and solitude, or release control where a rival master has taken hold.
