Welcome to Divine Savior Church in Doral, FLMessage: Depression: God's Word Gives Lasting HopeSeries: TabooService Host: Pastor Ben KuerthDepression feels so overwhelming. Many times, there's the feeling of having no hope. Here, we see the psalmist feel despair, his soul thirsting for the Lord. But then he talks to himself. Why am I so down? Even in this desperate situation, he is my Savior and my God.  If only that was the silver bullet. However, depression can be like a yo-yo; wrestling match in the mind. One minute we know our hope is in God. The next moment, we are back to despairing. Keeping God's Word in our mind, thinking about the hope we have, meditating on his promises, and the hope we have in him. Psalm 42, 1 Kings 19:1-18 2 Corinthians 1:8-11 Psalm 88

Hope Church - Fort Worth, TX

Are you feeling stuck, discouraged, or even hopeless? In this Easter sermon, Pastor Matt from Hope Church shares an encouraging message about how Jesus' resurrection offers us a lasting hope that can transform our lives.   The story of Easter is not just a nice holiday tradition—it's about the most important event in history that changed everything. When Jesus' followers discovered his empty tomb that first Easter morning, they went from being totally devastated to having a new, unshakable hope.   Why? Because Jesus rising from the dead proved that he has power over sin and death. His resurrection invites us to move from hopelessness to hope, doubt to belief, and defeat to victory. We don't have to stay stuck no matter what we're going through.   We often feel hopeless because we're putting our hope in the wrong things. Pastor Matt explains how there are two main kinds of hope: 1.    Fleeting hope - This is when we place our hope in temporary things that ultimately disappoint us and don't last. Whether it's our circumstances, abilities, or relationships, nothing in this world can provide a firm foundation for hope.   2.     Lasting hope - This is the unshakable hope that comes from putting our trust in Jesus. When we have a relationship with him, we're connected to the God of the universe, who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and eternal. His perfect love secures our hope.   So, how do we find this lasting hope? Pastor Matt shared the good news that Jesus offers us peace with God, not based on our efforts, but through faith in what Jesus did for us.   On the cross, Jesus took the consequence of our sins - death and separation from God. He died in our place so that through trusting him, we can be forgiven and made right with God. Three days later, Jesus rose again, proving that he conquered sin and death for us.   This means we can have a living hope in Jesus no matter our situation. We're invited to come to him in our brokenness, be made new, and experience a transformed life in our relationship with him.   Following Jesus doesn't mean we won't have problems, but it means we won't face them alone. With Jesus, we can find the hope, security, peace, and joy we seek. We're no longer defined by our pasts but by who we are in him.   So, if you're looking for hope this Easter, we invite you to consider trusting Jesus. Come visit us at Hope Church - we'd love to help you learn more about the hope Jesus offers and support you on your spiritual journey.   You don't have to stay stuck in hopelessness any longer. Lasting hope is available to you today through Jesus. He's inviting you to come to him, be made new, and experience the full life he has for you. What do we do when there is no cure for our pain? How do we live with joy and thanksgiving when our physical reality is a chronic condition? For author Andrea Herzer, learning to find joy in her chronic pain and incurable diagnoses was a feat. While her mind longed to be grateful, her physical condition made it seem impossible. And yet through her journey with chronic pain, cancer, and an accident, she was able to see God's kindness to her in the middle of her literal aches. Learning to rely on others and keeping her faith when God doesn't heal has been a struggle and yet through it, she has experienced more and more of the Lord's goodness in her life. It was through her own story that she was able to take the lessons God was teaching her and write Incurable Faith: 120 Devotions of Lasting Hope for Lingering Health Issues. In this conversation with Eric, Andrea shares how to hold on to your faith when God doesn't answer your prayers in the way you wish He would, where Jesus can be found in our physical pain, and why we can't expect medical professionals to be our saviors. If you're experiencing any form of suffering that is chronic in nature, this episode will remind you that God gives us unimaginable strength in our greatest weaknesses.   Website: www.andreaherzer.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/incurablefaith Facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/lifeforillness Book: Incurable Faith: 120 Devotions of Lasting Hope for Lingering Health Issues https://a.co/d/gKUQ5uq Are you ready to take a step towards healing? Family Life's "Faith Under Fire" Andrea Herzer has been journaling about her life with multiple illnesses, debilitating health issues, and a strong inspiring reliance on God. She compiled those writings into a devotional book to encourage others who are looking for that pathway to a life that overflows with the Lord's sustaining love -- no matter what happens with pain, or healing, or suffering, or loss. Her book's title recognizes the way that some diagnoses are labeled "incurable". Yet, she emphasizes that hope and peace can infuse people who face cancer, chronic pain, multiple surgeries, a long convalescence, or any other health issue. Incurable Faith is a partner along that long journey. This is our second conversation with Herzer. In this interview, she talks about her early days of waiting for healing, as she first sought a return to "normal". That process of waiting and healing and abiding has now stretched across 20 years. Weaving together her experience and multiple Biblical truths, she offers what she has learned about keeping your spirit at peace. She also encourages caregivers and family members who accompany patients through such processes. Also: what friends and visitors from church do that is very unhelpful -- plus recommendations on ways to be incredibly helpful amid the patience, impatience and loneliness of longsuffering. ================== You can also listen to our first conversation with Andrea Herzer, and you'll find resources she recommends.   Resources and background: About Andrea Herzer: "infectious joy & incurable faith" A free caregivers guide Incurable Faith: 120 Devotions for Lasting Hope amid Lingering Health Issues More of her writings and prayers and videos

A very personalized take on this week's "Faith Under Fire". Rather than national and cultural issues we often cover here, today we offer insights and inspiration on how Christians can maintain their faith --- while fighting life-threatening diseases, chronic conditions, and/or long-term stays in hospital or rehab center. Our guest has a personal story full of such challenges. Christian writer Andrea Herzer tells us about her 20 years of serious diseases, chronic pain, dozens of treatments, and more. Even through these hardships -- including eight years unable to walk -- she saw how the Lord offered her such confidence and blessings. To use her experiences and discoveries as encouragement for others, she has written a Biblical devotional book with the appropriate title: "Incurable Faith". Her message to people who are suffering is simply this -- even when you have a season when your vitality feels like it is fading, your faith can still be flourishing. In her devotional writings, she recognizes that some patients (and some of their caregivers) are not up for much reading or in-depth spiritual reflection. Based on her first-hand journey through this series of so-called "incurable" diseases, she offers a three-part menu of readings --- short and simple spiritual thoughts, more extended devotions, and longer detailed writings to guide someone through their current challenge (be that medical or something else). In this interview with Greg Gillispie, Herzer speaks her wisdom to three audiences: the people personally going through a long battle the caregivers, who also can feel exhausted as that process continues for themselves and the loved one friends, neighbors, co-workers, and fellow church members -- who may rush in with prayer and casseroles and support immediately after a crisis or diagnosis, but may not know what to say or do as the situation stretches across months (or even years). Through all this, Herzer has found that long medical circumstances are an opportunity to draw closer to God, and to even more fully realize the presence and the power of the Lord.   For further information: About Andrea Herzer Her writings and prayers and videos Incurable Faith: 120 Devotions for Lasting Hope amid Lingering Health Issues A free caregivers guide

Welcome to the Love Where You Are podcast!  Today I am joined by Andrea Herzer. Andrea is the author of Incurable Faith: 120 Devotions of Lasting Hope for Lingering Health Issues. She is intimately acquainted with the hardships that accompany debilitating health issues. She has spent the last 20 years with multiple illnesses, including complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Navigating life while undergoing infusions, chemotherapy, more than 100 medical procedures, and all the complications in between has given her deep compassion for those who also suffer. In this episode, Andrea and I navigate the grueling challenge of how to love where you are when you enter a season of physical pain and suffering. We dive deep to face the questions that rise about our faith, knowing God's love for us despite health struggles and how to maintain and even grow in your faith through it all. We also talk about what we can do when someone we love is suffering, how to best serve them and how it can actually change us in the process. Andrea also gives practical advice to those who are walking in pain right now and how to live an abundant life in Jesus… Thank you for being here today. Now, let's dive into the conversation!  You can connect with Andrea through Instagram and you can buy her book!    FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: -What exactly is an "abundant life"? Is it the work we do, the activities we enjoy, our bucket lists? Or is it the spiritual abundance we receieve from Christ, meaning in our bodily brokenness we can enjoy an abundant life?  -Some people think health challenges are a barometer of God's love for us and if we only had more faith then we would be cured; in other words, they might think not being healed shows a lack of faith. These ideas of health and faith are not Biblical.  -Job's friends were not helpful or comforting but they did try to do the right thing. It is easy to have good intentions and still do the wrong thing. When we see someone hurting, the best thing to do is ask that friend what they need from us.    REMEMBER: -Jesus was wounded, hurt, and had horrible things said and done to Him. He knows our suffering.  -When people are being hurtful towards us, we can release those things to Jesus through forgiveness.  -When we are suffering, we need to not make it difficult for others to help. We can feel ashamed to receive help but we need to accept it and sometimes the people who want to help us benefit from being our caregiver more than we realize.    Connect with Somer!  Stay connected to Somer and the Love Where You Are podcast through her Facebook & Instagram!
