One of the most popular questions when it comes to living with Type 2 Diabetes is how to manage your morning blood sugar. This reading is usually higher for some individuals. Many people will offer you "fixes" such as ask your doctor to increase your medications doses or don't eat after 7 pm... But what you should be focusing on is WHY you're experiencing this? Understanding your condition will be the first step in actually living with it rather than just trying to put a bandage on it. What you might be seeing is what we described as the Dawn Phenomenon where your blood sugar is just a bit higher around the 'dawn' period (5 am - 8 am). Snacking and Type 2 Diabetes - The Do's and Don'ts

To Snack, or Not to Snack, That is the question. I guess the real question here is what to snack on when you want to snack if you have type 2 diabetes? Or maybe the actual question is can you even snack if you have type 2 diabetes? Confusing right?... …Yeah, me too. I never used to snack when I was growing up. It was not a thing in a third world country. People barely have enough food to eat at lunches and dinners, let alone adding a snack. My parents actually forbid my sister and I from eating "junk-food" before our meals so we don't ruin our appetite. It is important for us to always finish all our food because wasting even a single drop of rice is sinful. I'd be so full after my regular meals that I never even thought about eating anything else in between! But when I got to America… snacking was very encouraged and throwing food away if you don't finish your meal is perfectly ok… A very different view on things indeed. So no wonder that most Americans, including clients with type 2 diabetes, are struggling so hard with cravings and wanting to snack. It's not anyone's faults… It is simply the culture. Your brain is wired to want to snack and it is used to the enhanced flavors of these yummy "junk-food". Cutting out all snacks cold-turkey is probably not the best option if you're trying to avoid junk foods. This will actually increase your cravings for them even more and you might go down a binge rabbit hole if you are deprived for too long. … But how can you "fix" this then? How can you go from living in a "snacking-world" to trying to reduce junk foods so you can help lower your blood sugar? I reveal *exactly* HOW you can do that in this episode along with: Ways to reduce cravings What to snack on instead when you are having cravings How to re-write your brain into not wanting to snack as much Want to know all that and more? If your answer is "Yes", then you are not alone! It does not matter if you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for a long time or just yesterday, you probably know that it is a serious health condition that you worry about. It would be nice if you can finally shed that constant worry - worry if your blood sugar went up after what you just ate, worry that your A1C is not at goal, or worry that you might not be around for your loved ones… You probably have heard/read about the many ways that others sources claim to help you reverse type 2 diabetes. You might have tried all those ways but you're still wondering if that is enough to truly bring down that A1C and keep it there. There are so many posts on social media about what food lowers your blood sugar and what food raises it. But here's the TRUTH: Everything you eat raises your blood sugar! The only difference is how fast each type of food will raise it. The only exception to this is meat - which do not contain any carbohydrate so in theory, they cannot raise your blood sugar alone - but that does not mean your blood sugar won't go up after eating them. So instead of focusing so much on the WHAT, you should be focusing on the HOW. This is crucial if you want to lower your A1C to normal range and keep it there consistently. And to master the HOW, you'll need to tap into your mindset to really change your behavior. In today's episode, Dr. Promlap will go over how you can create a long-lasting behavior change that will put you one step closer into lowering that A1C for good as well as: Providing you with a plan so you can stick with this new change Reveal what to do when you "relapse" Lay out specific examples of how you can apply this to lower your A1C Want to know all that and more? This popular diet has been mentioned numerous times on multiple diabetes accounts/groups as a go-to diet for any one who is diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. While reducing carbohydrates seem to be the obvious choice when thinking about lowering your blood sugar, it can bring you some unexpected results. Most people are aware of the well-known Keto Diet in regards to weight loss and reducing blood sugar. But did you know that the Keto Diet (or the Classical Ketogenic Diet) is actually designed to help prevent seizure? This high fat low carbohydrates diet forces the body to break down fat for energy instead of glucose (sugar).
