Could Circadian Rhythm and Hormone Balance be impossible if your gut isn't eliminating properly?     Lisa Fischer sits down with Marina Ortega—founder of Trust Your Gut and Scottsdale Hydrotherapy—to have the conversation every woman eventually has: poop. From Marina's decades-long battle with severe constipation to the surprising connection between menopause, gut motility, detox pathways, and hormone health, this episode tackles the taboo topic with honesty and humor.     You'll discover why constipation isn't "normal," how gut health influences mood and immunity, what happens when you ignore your body's signals, and why Marina believes peeing, pooping, and sweating are essential for effective detoxification. They also explore colon hydrotherapy, coffee enemas, castor oil packs, liver support, parasite cleansing, peptides, intermittent fasting, and practical strategies to improve daily elimination and overall wellness.     If you've struggled with bloating, sluggish digestion, Menopause Weight Loss and Insulin Resistance, Root Cause Healing for Chronic Fatigue, or simply wondered if your bathroom habits are affecting your health, this conversation is for you.

Perimenopause, Insulin Resistance, and Persistent Muscle & Joint Pain: A Functional Medicine Framework: Nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses perimenopausal musculoskeletal symptoms—new or persistent joint pain, muscle aches, and tendon problems—and highlights a Clinician's Journal article by physical therapist Tara Moore proposing insulin resistance screening in perimenopausal musculoskeletal care. She explains that declining estradiol during the menopausal transition can worsen insulin signaling, increase visceral fat, and reduce insulin sensitivity, affecting skeletal muscle recovery and potentially contributing to tendinopathies and poor or short-lived responses to localized treatments like PT. The framework emphasizes assessing systemic metabolic contributors (e.g., sedentary behavior, high-carbohydrate nutrition patterns, PCOS, central weight gain, stress, sleep disruption) and addressing mediators such as inflammation and impaired glucose utilization. She suggests integrating metabolic risk assessment, sleep and stress strategies, resistance training, and interdisciplinary referrals, arguing that nutrition and supplementation—especially a low-carb approach—may improve recovery and pain outcomes.

In this episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling dive deep into what they call the insulin matrix — the idea that chronic disease, weight loss resistance, and metabolic dysfunction are fundamentally insulin problems that develop quietly for years before showing up in labs or on the scale. Inspired by a conversation between Dr. Rhonda Patrick and Dr. Ben Bikman, the hosts explain why fasting is uniquely powerful not just for losing weight, but for changing how and where the body stores and releases energy at a cellular level — shrinking overfilled fat cells rather than simply creating a calorie deficit. They break down why a consistently high-insulin environment, even with good food choices, can keep the body locked in fat-storage mode and why stacking more daily "insulin-off hours" through foundational fasting is the most direct lever for restoring metabolic flexibility. The hosts also walk through the key lifestyle multipliers that either amplify or undermine the fasting effect — sleep, movement, food quality, and stress management — and why matching your fasting intensity to your current life load produces better long-term results than white-knuckling aggressive extended fasts. Listeners leave with a clear, trackable one-week action plan focused on morning energy, cravings, and fasting comfort as early signs that the insulin matrix is finally shifting in their favor. Depression is often treated as a single condition. But two people with the same diagnosis can have completely different underlying causes. On this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show, I'm rejoined by Dr. James Greenblatt to explore why depression may be less of a disease and more of a signal that something deeper is going on. We discuss how a root-cause approach can uncover what's driving symptoms and why finding what's beneath them matters. Watch the full conversation on YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts. We discuss: Could nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, or gut issues be contributing to symptoms of depression What tests can help uncover the biological factors that may be affecting mood and mental health Why can two people with depression have different root causes—and require different solutions How do blood sugar imbalances, hormone changes, and metabolic health influence the brain What should you know about antidepressants, tapering, and addressing the factors that may affect recovery Hope doesn't come from ignoring symptoms—it comes from understanding them. Sometimes the most important question isn't "What's wrong with me?" but "What might my body be trying to tell me?" One of the key themes in this conversation is that mental health is deeply connected to what's happening throughout the body. In my Brainshaping Academy, you'll learn how to support the biological systems that shape cognitive, emotional, and mental well-being. In today's episode I am joined by my patient, Bev, who shares her experience of reversing insulin resistance. Bev is a retired registered nurse so knows a lot more than the average person about health. When I first met Bev, she was carrying extra weight around the abdominal area and had elevated fasting blood sugar levels. Bev had been an athlete her entire life, and always active in some form. She was never unhealthy or eating a bad diet, but underneath the surface was the underlying issue of insulin resistance. While she was eating lots of healthy foods like vegetables and meat, she was also eating a lot of excess carbs in the form of pasta, bread and sweet foods. Bev was insulin resistant, pre-diabetic, with very high blood pressure, reflux and was extremely intolerant to heat. Since my diagnosis of insulin resistance 2 years ago, Bev's previous health issues have improved significantly or disappeared entirely through eliminating gluten, improving liver function, and losing 16 kg.Visit Dr Cabot website to find out more about Dr Cabot (spoiler alert, she's also a pilot!), to access her Weight Loss Detective Program, podcasts, videos, article and testimonials:https://www.sandracabot.com/Visit Dr Cabot's Australian website for the Cabot Health supplement range, books, health articles, recipes and free downloads:https://www.cabothealth.com.au/Visit Dr Cabot's US website for the Liver Doctor supplement range, books, health articles, recipes and free downloads:https://www.liverdoctor.com/

If you have Hashimoto's and have been told your blood sugar is "borderline" or "fine for now," this conversation will change how you think about it. Inna sits down with Dr. Jason Shumard, a functional medicine practitioner with more than two decades of experience in diabetes and insulin resistance, to unpack why blood sugar troubles and thyroid autoimmunity so often travel together. The surprising takeaway is that elevated blood sugar usually isn't a sugar problem at all. It's a signal that something has gone wrong at the level of the cell, and chasing the number alone tends to leave the real issue untouched.Dr. Jason walks through what's actually happening when insulin can no longer do its job, and why the receptors on your cells stop responding in the first place. He explains the role that hidden drivers like infections, mold, heavy metals, chronic inflammation and everyday stress play in keeping the cycle going, and why these overlap so heavily with the same triggers behind Hashimoto's. He and Inna also dig into the lab markers worth paying attention to beyond a basic glucose reading, the optimal ranges he looks for, and the simple ratio already sitting on most standard bloodwork that can flag insulin resistance early. The discussion gets especially practical around carbohydrates, GLP-1 medications, and the idea of cycling rather than relying on any single tool forever. Dr. Jason offers a refreshingly balanced view, neither demonizing carbs nor treating medications as a permanent fix, and shares why restoring true cellular function is what allows so many people to move toward remission. It's an honest, hopeful look at a topic that affects far more people with thyroid issues than most realize, and a reminder that the body is often far more capable of healing than we've been led to believe. For full show notes, please see: https://innatopiler.com/podcasts/lowering-blood-sugar-insulin-resistance-hashimotos-dr-jason-shumard/Get ThyroLove - the first all in one bottle multi-nutrient comprehensive formula designed specifically for those with Thyroid Autoimmunity at ThyroLove.com - use code “Podcast” to get 10% off and free shipping If you are struggling to lose weight with Hashimoto's, Inna has a 10 day plan just for you at InnaTopiler.com/jumpstartIf you need help with fatigue or brain fog with Hashimoto's, please check out Inna's 9 Day Exhaustion Solution at innatopiler.com/energyIf you don't yet know your thyroid type, please be sure you sign up for Inna's next free training at InnaTopiler.com/zoomcallFor more information about everything Hashimoto's please visit InnaTopiler.com Get ThyroLove - use code “Podcast” to get 10% off and free shipping

He introduces the Energy Allocation System (EAS), which emphasizes how the body allocates energy—not just produces it—and links many symptoms to impaired bioenergetics and resilience. They discuss mitochondria as energy generators and cellular signaling hubs, the integrated stress response and endocrine coordination (HPA axis, thyroid, gonads), and mitohormesis/eustress (exercise, fasting, heat/cold, circadian “zeitgebers”). Schuler explains nuanced testing for fatigue (diurnal cortisol, CGM patterns, thyroid markers including T3/reverse T3) and a case of a perimenopausal woman where oral contraceptives and cortisol dysregulation affected glucose patterns. They cover mitochondrial support (removing obstacles like pollutants/antibiotics, triglycerides, carnitine, dietary fats, micronutrients) and pacing/sequencing lifestyle interventions.

Check out the full episode: https://greatness.lnk.to/1928DM Most people have spent years obsessing over what to eat. Dr. Mindy Pelz says that's exactly the wrong question. Your body runs two energy systems. One runs on food. The other only kicks in after 8 to 10 hours without eating. That's the fat-burning, brain-sharpening, hunger-suppressing system. Most people never get there. That's why diets keep failing. You're only working with half the machine. Mindy breaks down how to train into fasting gradually. Trying to jump straight to long fasts is like running a marathon with three weeks of 3-mile runs. Lewis learned that the hard way. She also gives one dead-simple rule for timing meals: eat when it's light out. Once darkness hits and melatonin rises, your body stores what you eat as fat. The suffering at hour 12? That's your body repairing itself. That's the point. Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Send us Fan MailPCOS has officially been renamed PMOS, or Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — but does the new name actually change the way patients are diagnosed and treated? In this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols explains why polycystic ovary syndrome was always a misleading name, how PCOS got its name from the historic Stein-Leventhal description, and why the “cysts” in PCOS are usually follicles rather than true ovarian cysts. He breaks down why the new name, PMOS, better reflects the real condition: a lifelong endocrine and metabolic disorder involving insulin resistance, androgen excess, ovulatory dysfunction, diabetes risk, cholesterol, blood pressure, endometrial cancer risk, sleep apnea, fertility, and long-term health.Dr. Amols also discusses whether this name change is a true medical breakthrough or simply a rebranding of PCOS. While the diagnostic criteria have not dramatically changed, the hope is that the new name will push the medical community to stop treating PCOS as only a fertility problem and start managing it as a full-body metabolic disorder. If you have PCOS, PMOS, irregular periods, insulin resistance, elevated testosterone, acne, hirsutism, difficulty losing weight, or fertility concerns, this episode explains what the name change means — and what better care should actually look like. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of 'Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday' with Dr. Mark Amols. Click the link for DATES, DETAILS, and FAQs! In this research-backed episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling break down a gold-standard meta-analysis comparing the most popular intermittent fasting protocols head-to-head — time-restricted eating, alternate day fasting, and the 5:2 method — against traditional calorie restriction to see which approach actually moves the needle on blood sugar and insulin resistance. The hosts cut through the complexity to deliver a clear takeaway: time-restricted eating consistently wins for improving fasting glucose and A1C, while alternate day fasting is the most powerful tool for directly lowering insulin resistance and fasting insulin levels — the upstream markers that determine whether your body is stuck in fat-storing mode or freed up to burn. They also tackle the real-world gaps the research can't capture — the simplicity, food noise reduction, and decision fatigue relief that make fasting dramatically easier to sustain long-term compared to the slow grind of calorie counting. Listeners will come away knowing exactly how to match the right fasting tool to their current situation, whether the goal is better lab numbers, breaking through stubborn weight loss resistance, or building a flexible lifestyle that doesn't require restarting every Monday. The episode closes with a straightforward reminder that consistency in a foundational fasting window will always outperform an aggressive protocol done halfway — and that fasting wins not by being perfect on paper, but by being livable in real life. Take the NEW FASTING PERSONA QUIZ! - The Key to Unlocking Sustainable Weight Loss With Fasting! Resources and Downloads: SIGN UP FOR THE DROP OF THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BLOOD SUGAR CONTROL GRAB THE OPTIMAL RANGES FOR LAB WORK HERE! - NEW RESOURCE! FREE RESOURCE - DOWNLOAD THE NEW BLUEPRINT TO FASTING FOR FAT LOSS! SLEEP GUIDE DIRECT DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD THE FASTING TRANSFORMATION JOURNAL HERE! Partner Links: Get your FREE BOX OF LMNT hydration support for the perfect electrolyte balance for your fasting lifestyle with your first purchase here! Get 25% off a Keto-Mojo blood glucose and ketone monitor (discount shown at checkout)! Click here! Our Community: Let's continue the conversation. Inside this Q&A Instagram Live, we discuss: ✨ What I would focus on FIRST if someone had fatty liver, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, and 50 pounds to lose ✨ Can insulin resistance exist even if your glucose levels look "normal"? ✨ The biggest breakfast mistake I see people making — especially when it comes to blood sugar and cravings ✨ Why nighttime cravings happen (and what they may be telling you about your metabolism) ✨ Whether walking after meals is REALLY as powerful as people claim for blood sugar control ✨ How meal timing, sunlight, sleep, movement, and insulin all work together to influence metabolic health If you've been told to simply "eat less and move more," but your body still feels inflamed, exhausted, and resistant to change, this episode will help you better understand what may actually be happening beneath the surface. Nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses a listener question about whether agave nectar can contribute to obesity like high-fructose corn syrup, arguing that regular use of sweeteners—including agave, honey, monk fruit, stevia, aspartame, sucralose, allulose, and sugar alcohols—can maintain sweet cravings, spike insulin, and contribute to weight-loss plateaus, with added concerns such as microbiome effects, GI upset, and aspartame's neurotoxicity. She notes insulin's role in fat storage and blood pressure via sodium retention, and suggests that needing a sweetener in coffee or tea may indicate dependence on sweetness. She then covers a newly developed, validated Food Noise Questionnaire (FNQ) published in Obesity to measure intrusive food-related rumination, highlighting its five Likert-scale items, study sample characteristics, and the need for further research, including effects of GLP-1 drugs.

In this deep-dive follow-up episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling flip the metabolic conversation from insulin resistance to insulin sensitivity — explaining what it actually means for your cells to respond efficiently to insulin and why improving that response is the real key to lasting fat loss, stable energy, and long-term health. The hosts break down the four main drivers that quietly erode insulin sensitivity over time — excess visceral fat, poor food choices, chronic stress and sleep deprivation, and sedentary living — and why understanding each one helps listeners stop blaming willpower and start pulling the right levers. They walk through a practical framework for rebuilding insulin sensitivity, covering movement, a protein-forward low-carb nutrition approach, healthy fats and fiber, stress management, and sleep protection — with fasting anchoring the entire strategy as the single most powerful tool for giving the body a break from constant glucose and insulin demands. Listeners will come away with a clear understanding of why early eating windows consistently outperform late-night dinner schedules, and how the compounding effect of small daily choices either accelerates or undermines metabolic flexibility over time. The episode closes with a direct challenge: identify your personal weakest metabolic link from today's conversation and take one concrete action on it today — not tomorrow — because that next right decision is always just one choice away. Functional Diagnostic Nutrition: Using Saliva Testing, Food Sensitivity Labs, and Lifestyle to Find Root Causes: Reed Davis, Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP) and Certified Nutritional Therapist (CNT), is founder of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN). He discusses using functional testing alongside conventional care to uncover “dysfunction” when standard labs appear normal. Davis describes assessing adrenal and metabolic stress via saliva testing for circadian cortisol patterns, cortisol-DHEA balance, sex hormones, secretory IgA, and melatonin, emphasizing clinical correlation and individualized “studies of one.” He outlines an approach targeting multiple “healing opportunities” (H-I-D-D-E-N: hormones, immune, digestion, detoxification, energy, nervous system) and applying D-R-E-S-S (diet, rest, exercise, stress reduction, supplementation) rather than relying on supplements alone. A case example links chronic hives, medication-related weight gain, and food triggers identified through additional testing, including the Mediator Release Test. The discussion also covers stress-driven gut dysbiosis, digestion decline, and EFT tapping for stress-related symptoms, and notes FDN practitioners can be found via FDNtraining.com/medicine.

In this foundational episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling tackle the metabolic basics that most fasting resources skip — explaining why fasting alone isn't always enough and what's really happening beneath the surface when weight loss stalls or energy stays low. They break down metabolic health in plain English, unpacking the relationship between blood sugar, insulin resistance, and the chronic lifestyle conditions that develop silently for years before showing up in labs or on the scale. The hosts make a compelling case for why fasting is the most powerful single lever for restoring metabolic flexibility — not just because it creates a calorie deficit, but because it fundamentally reduces the number of glucose and insulin spikes the body has to manage each day. Listeners will gain a clear understanding of what optimal metabolic markers actually look like versus standard lab ranges, and why getting ahead of dysfunction early is far more effective than waiting for a diagnosis. The episode closes with a practical three-step action plan for the next seven days — clean up your fasting window with protein-first meals, move after your biggest meal, and protect your metabolic night shift by stopping food at least three hours before bed — giving every listener a concrete place to start regardless of where they are on their fasting journey.
