There hasn't been an episode for a little while, so today's episode is a little longer than usual! It was recorded pre-pandemic with the incredible force of determination and resilience - Maddy Warren who was nominated by Deena Gornick in episode 18. Maddy is a consultant, TEDx speaker, skydiver, kidney patient advocate and she has been on dialysis for 23 years after experiencing kidney failure at the age of 14 and she has the amazing self-appointed title of Queen of Dialysis. Over the course of our conversation, I learnt so much from Maddy, not only about kidneys and self-dialysis but about courage, independence, community, resilience and not giving up on what's important to you, regardless of the hurdles that may get in the way. This is a wonderful discussion with the creative powerhouse that is Renee Vaughan Sutherland (recorded in Summer 2019 - but just as relevant as before!) Renee is an artist, filmmaker and creative director. This is a lovely conversation with the incredibly inspiring Jackie Scully. Although recorded over a year ago, I often think about snippets of things she said in this chat and her perspective on kindness feels more relevant than ever now. Since recording this episode we've become much closer friends especially over the various lockdown, so it's really nice to listen back to one of our early conversations. Jackie is an Executive Director at Think Publishing, winner of numerous awards such as the WACL Future Leaders, Women of the Future and she has also been listed as one of the 50 leading lights in Kindness & Leadership UK. ...but I think the thing that is most interesting to me, is that despite her vast experience as a writer, editor, strategist and marketeer, the conversation we shared was very much focused around overcoming challenges that life throws in your path and focusing on building bravery, self-belief and understanding the power of kindness. Jackie has had a number of 'bumps in the road' as she calls them, from having to have her hip rebuilt to discovering she had breast cancer at the age of 32 and she discusses how this led her to reevaluate priorities and what success means to her. My guest for this episode is the talented Deena Gornick, an executive and board level coach, facilitator and writer and since recording this back at the end of 2019 we've become good friends too - albeit remotely! I have a number of interviews like this one that were recorded last year that I have yet to release as other priorities have had to come first but it's been exciting to listen back to these conversations and reflect on them with a new light - especially after the challenges of 2020. In this episode we discuss how Deena found her calling as a coach - how she started out as an actor, but soon discovered that she enjoyed helping other people to perform and find themselves much more than she enjoyed acting. We actually ended up chatting for hours so it was really hard to cut this interview down but it's still a meaty and interesting discussion about courage, creativity and most of all the search for confidence. My guest today is Samantha Clarke, happiness consultant, TEDx & Keynote Speaker & author of Love It or Leave It - How to be Happy at work. Sam is super passionate about improving people's happiness and helping them to make decisions about what they love and want to do more of and what they want to leave behind. In this episode (recorded Autumn 2019) I speak to Lizzie Edwards, Personal Stylist, Author, Speaker and Image Consultant. Last summer I had the pleasure of speaking to Roxanne Hobbs, the founder of The Hobbs Consultancy who are on a mission to tranform the workplace via inclusion. I was introduced to Roxanne by Antoinette Dale Henderson (Episode 9 ❤️) who was inspired by her work. Roxanne is a coach, speaker and author of 'Diverted' a book about resilience, inclusion and autism. Amongst other things, we discussed courage, the work of Brené Brown, the power of neurodiversity and the need to proactively build support systems. Rox is superbly honest and open about understanding her own biases, her son's autism diagnosis and the power of vulnerability and authenticity in leadership. I’m really excited to share this interview. Sometimes someone tells you a story, that impacts you so deeply you feel like you have to find out more - earlier this year was one of those times, when I saw Manal Rostom speak. Amongst other things, Manal is an athlete, Nike ambassador and the founder of Surviving Hijab, a supportive online community to empower women who cover. She spoke of overcoming the tragic loss of a loved one, further committing to her faith and following her passion. Her talk was during a fleeting window when we both in London before she returned home to Dubai, so I took the opportunity thank her in person for sharing her story. She kindly agreed to be interviewed for Who's Next and when she was next in the UK a few months later we set up a Skype call to chat. My guest today is Amy Williams, the founder and CEO of Good Loop, a start-up which enables advertising for good. This year alone Amy has been awarded a place on Forbes 30 under 30, the WACL Future Leader Award, and been named one of the UN Women’s 100 Leading Global Female Innovators. My guest today is Carol Russell who was nominated by Jane Evans, founder of the Uninvisibility Project and Who's Next guest from episode 4. They met each other on a film course - where they both realised they knew writer and publisher Verna Wilkins and have been close and supportive friends ever since. Jane said of Carol, 'She's an amazing woman and we have the most incredible chats'. Carol is a TV writer, traditional storyteller, founder and consultant. In this episode we discuss the ups and downs of Carol's career so far, and delve into what led Carol found Fresh Voices UK, an organisation which aims to increase the representation of black, asian and minority ethnic voices in the TV industry. My guest today is Ann Morgan who was nominated by her sister-in-law (and Who's Next guest from episode 2) Lyndsay Morgan who was inspired the level of dedication that Ann shows. Ann is a TED speaker, Royal Literary Fund fellow, author, literary activist and editor. Her first book, 'Reading the World' is an account of her year-long journey of reading a book from every country in the world. It's a wonderful story of collaboration, compassion and cultural exploration. Ann has also written two novels: 'Beside Myself' and 'Crossing Over' and is planning her own podcast to launch later this year for the Royal Literary Fund - so I'll share details of that closer to the time! My guest today is Meagan Bickerstaff, she is the Founder of INKWAVE a global influencer marketing agency rooted in delivering value through authenticity. She also set up an online community called Happy New Mums after having her first son to support other mothers and as a place to discuss maternal mental health. Today's guest is Stephanie Matthews. Steph has worked her way up in the marketing and communications industry, starting out in advertising research at Channel 4 and gaining experience at a myriad of companies from ITV to News Australia: working in the UK and Australia to hone her skills. She recently moved to join Virgin as a Senior Campaign manager in London. Steph talks about how Virgin is a company that strongly aligns with her personal values. In her spare time she is the President of the Women's network Bloom. Bloom strives to ensure women have equal opportunity in the communications industry. They work to future-proof women's careers, drive industry change and also run a mentoring programme to pay it forward to the next generation of women. In today's episode we cover a number of topics which are common themes to lots of women. We have a very open and honest chat about the importance of not comparing yourself to others, understanding your values and scripting in family time to enable better work-life balance. This week my guest is the amazing Lyndsay Morgan the operations director at Climb online, a digital marketing agency. She is an absolute force of energy, ideas and organisation. Only last week she was instrumental in coordinating an event for the Marketing Acadedy Foundation which raised £26k to assist young people from challenging backgrounds to get into marketing. The technical term for those who love dogs is Cynophilist. And the love for a dog is called Canophilia. But, I think this term is too technical and is less used. It is better to call them as 'Dog Lovers' as this word depicts that the persons love dogs.

My first guest is Amy Kean, Head of Strategic Innovation at the media agency Starcom and the author of The Little Girl Who Gave Zero Fucks (amongst other short stories and poems). We has an absolute delight of a chat, we talking about imposter syndrome, confidence, keeping control of your emotions and creating and self-publishing a book. My mission when I set out to create this podcast was first and foremost to showcase collaboration and support! In particular, as someone who is interested in gender equality and seeing women portrayed more accurately in the media and a greater presence of women in leadership positions, I wanted to start with shining a light on collaborative, creative and inspiring women. A term that sums up the sentiment and mission of this podcast perfectly is 'shine theory', coined by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow. It's based on the simple premise that "I don't shine if you don't shine" and how having powerful friends and being inspired by rather than jealous of the successes of other people can only be a good thing! So for these series of interviews, I will be surrounding myself with wonderful, shiny, clever people who in turn shine a light an inspiring women they know at the end of each interview.
