EP129: Reclaiming Energy and Health: Amy's Approach to Sustainable Weight Loss In this episode, I sit down with Amy Kean, a dedicated results coach and the creator of Victory Nutrition in Surrey. Amy shares her personal journey of struggling with weight, falling into the yo-yo dieting cycle, and eventually finding sustainable health through structured nutrition using Herbalife. Now, she helps others transform their lives by focusing on holistic, healthy habits with the support of Herbalife products and a vibrant community. Amy talks about the importance of viewing food as fuel, the positive effects of a healthy breakfast routine, and how coaching can provide essential support and belief for those who need it. We also discuss common obstacles that many people face on their weight loss journeys, the shift in mindset needed to break free from cycles of exhaustion, and how prioritising health and nutrition can completely change your energy levels and outlook on life. Key Highlights: • Building sustainable habits: Why a structured morning routine can set the tone for the day. • The power of community: How being part of a supportive group can amplify results and motivation. • Mindset transformation: Shifting from “I can't” to “I can” and finding belief in yourself. • Viewing food differently: Understanding food as fuel rather than a source of comfort or entertainment. As a part of my current keynote presentation, I usually ask people what they have been thinking about immediately before sitting down for my talk. Common responses are their upcoming meal, a deadline, finding a seat, etc. Immediate needs. Unimportant when viewed from a wider perspective. I ask the question of the groups to illustrate that nobody is thinking about brands. They're focused on their short-term needs and goals. This week, as a part of my job, I updated my performance review document. I had to look at our list of goals, my assignments and list all that I had achieved in the past three months. It was a surprisingly long list. This isn't bragging (humble or otherwise), it is just a fact. Compared to the overall team goals, it was impressive. Then I started adding things from my personal life and work. There were another dozen items. Unlike my work list, I didn't have a master list to compare to. I had no context. Despite a list that I'm quite proud of (I wrote a novel for Christ's sake) I started wondering what I've been working for in my personal life. Now, I'm creating a personal plan and a framework to achieve a larger goal for myself and my family. I'll keep you posted as this challenge is defined and how I'm doing. Watch this space. This line of thinking has undoubtedly arisen, at least in part, from my conversation with the incredible Amy Kean. She is a force of nature. She is an author, the founder of Six Things Impossible and co-founder of DICE (Diversity & Inclusion at Conferences and Events). She is inspiring because she strikes me as the kind of person who has ever backed down from a challenge, and probably intimidates challenges into backing down from her. My first guest is Amy Kean, Head of Strategic Innovation at the media agency Starcom and the author of The Little Girl Who Gave Zero Fucks (amongst other short stories and poems). We has an absolute delight of a chat, we talking about imposter syndrome, confidence, keeping control of your emotions and creating and self-publishing a book. My mission when I set out to create this podcast was first and foremost to showcase collaboration and support! In particular, as someone who is interested in gender equality and seeing women portrayed more accurately in the media and a greater presence of women in leadership positions, I wanted to start with shining a light on collaborative, creative and inspiring women. A term that sums up the sentiment and mission of this podcast perfectly is 'shine theory', coined by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow. It's based on the simple premise that "I don't shine if you don't shine" and how having powerful friends and being inspired by rather than jealous of the successes of other people can only be a good thing! So for these series of interviews, I will be surrounding myself with wonderful, shiny, clever people who in turn shine a light an inspiring women they know at the end of each interview. Podcast pay it forward. More about Shine Theory: https://www.shinetheory.com Backing music: by "RSPN" by Blank and Kytt courtesy of Free Music Archive http://freemusicarchive.org

Sat with illustrator and colourist, Jess Milton. Having worked on titles such as The girl who gave zero fucks with Amy Kean as well as writing and colouring her ongoing series The Flying Ship. Not only incredibly skilled at turning other peoples prose into brilliant illustrations. Jess also discussed how her own life has been used to influence more personal work. Clearly very gifted and accomplished both as a writer and illustrator. It was a pleasure to sit and talk with such a talented person. I hope you enjoy.

Amy Kean is a media futurologist and the head of Havas Media. Media futurologist, you say? Yes it is a real thing. What does she actually do though? Amy looks at current data and trends and from those she draws conclusions about how we should behave in the future. Technology is really changing how we live our daily lives and the thing that has changed it the most in the past few years is without a doubt, the smartphone. We as consumers are increasingly demanding. We don't want to just watch music videos, we want to BE in them. Cue UK-based recording artist Squarepusher's answer to this. He released a virtual reality (VR) video to mark the release of a song that can be experienced with a VR headset, mobiles, tablets and YouTube's new 360º platform. So by using something like Google cardboard and your smartphone or tablet you can feel like you're IN the video. And no, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. We are no longer happy with experiencing things in one dimension. We want more. We want multi-sensory experiences, whether that be fireworks you can taste (London's 2014 New Year's Eve fireworks) or a fairground ride that each person can control with their mind to get a completely different experience depending on their reactions to it (Neurosis). In this session recorded at The Radio Academy's Radio Festival, Amy talks about the many ways radio might use these technological advances and asks how it might look in the future.
