In this sermon, Pastor Steven explores the pivotal transition from the era of the judges to the rise of Israel's monarchy. Through Israel's repentance at Mizpah, Samuel's victory over the Philistines, and the raising of the Ebenezer stone, we see a God who remains faithful to His people despite their weakness and wandering. Yet as Israel demands a king “like the nations,” this message reveals both the danger of rejecting God's rule and the hope of a greater King whom God would provide in His mercy. Ultimately, the story points us to Christ, the faithful King who accomplishes God's good purposes even through human failure.
Nothing gives us hope quite like "but God" moments. The people of God learned about the power of such a moment then and the power of that moment is still present today. Let's pray...
What Does Full Repentance Look Like? - 1 Samuel 7:3-171. Full repentance means radical change. (7:3-6)2. Full repentance makes a different choice. (7:7-11)3. Full repentance leads to restoration. (7:12-17)

I fixed the problem; why don't I feel better? We've been in scenarios like this. For Israel, the problem was that the ark had been captured. But God fixed that problem - it's back! And yet, "the house of Israel lamented after the Lord..." Something still wasn't right. Samuel leads the people to understand that the key wasn't getting the Ark back - the key was that God wanted their hearts back.
We all know the feeling — looking around, seeing what everyone else has, and quietly thinking, “I want that.” In 1 Samuel 7 and 8, the people of Israel did exactly that. They had God as their King. They had miracle after miracle in their rearview mirror. And they still asked for a human king “like all the other nations have.”In this message at Love Church Omaha, Luke Reelfs walks through the danger of getting what you think you want when it's outside of God's best — and gives a three-step path back: turn from idols, trust God's leadership, talk to Him before you chase what everyone else is chasing.

True repentance begins in the mind - moves to the heart - then gets to our hands and feet! It's admitting what God says is true, agreeing with it, and with His help, we do it! This is Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson. To agree with God we must know what He thinks about things. Today we're in First Samuel chapter seven. Repentance is important when dealing with the sin on our lives, but on Today's broadcast, we'll see God's people waiting twenty years before repenting. Now that's a long time! In this opening sermon to 1 Samuel, Pastor Steven introduces the story of Israel's transition from chaos to kingship through the lens of the “Ebenezer”—a stone that marks God's faithfulness. Tracing the broader story of Scripture from Judges to the rise of Samuel, Saul, and David, this message shows how God's people, broken and leaderless, are led toward the need for a true king.As the story unfolds, 1 Samuel reveals not only how God has been faithful in the past, but how He will continue to be faithful—ultimately pointing beyond David to the greater King who secures lasting salvation for His people.
Ebenezer, or the stone of help, marked Samuel's testimony: Hitherto hath the LORD helped us. That was the name of the memorial stone that Samuel set up to commemorate a truly great deliverance. Israel's people, weak from a day of fasting and repentance, subdued the powerful army of Philistia, which had ruled over them for the last 20 years. It us not a victory brought about by military might, but rather an answer to Samuel's prayer, and it commenced a period of peace in Israel, as Samuel the prophet became the national leader of his country.

Samuel enters the Scriptures during a chaotic period of historyThe best way to understand it, is found in a line repeated in Judges“In those days there was no king in Israel” (Jdg. 18:1 and 19:1)- and again at the very end of Judges, with an added explanation“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Jdg. 21:25)- I have a friend who wrote a book on the Kingdom of God• and though I enjoyed reading it and trust him as a serious student of the Bible,◦ I disagree with his take on this verse◦ he suggests that everyone doing what was right in their own eyes was a good thingSteve Gregg, suggests that “. . . liberty of personal conscience prevailed, rather than dominated by a human (and therefore corrupt) earthly ruler.”• but that this isn't what that line means is proven elsewhere◦ in Moses' instructions to Israel when they would enter the land, he says,“You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes . . . .” (Deut. 12:8-9)◦ really, all you have to do is read the last three chapters of Judges to see the confusion and tragedy that resulted from everyone doing what they considered the right thing

2024-12-12 - Better Than Fighting For the Lord: 1 Samuel 7; Mikey Sanchez [0zUTHcsBUIc] by Salvador Flores III
Send us a textIn this episode, we watch Israel return to the Lord under the leadership of Samuel — and witness how repentance, prayer, and wholehearted devotion bring supernatural deliverance and lasting peace. After twenty years of spiritual drifting, God's people finally respond to Samuel's call: “Return to the Lord with all your hearts.” What follows is a model for spiritual renewal that still speaks to us today:Return to the LordPut away the idolsPrepare your heartServe Him aloneWhat happens next is one of the most dramatic scenes in the Old Testament:A pagan army gathers for battle, Israel panics, Samuel prays — and God answers with thunder from heaven. The result?A victory Israel did not win by force… but by faith.A memorial stone is then raised and named Ebenezer — “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”And forty years of peace that came not through a king, not through strategy, but through returning to God.This episode explores:Why spiritual renewal must come before spiritual actionThe danger of using God rather than trusting GodHow prayer leads to deliverance even when fear remainsWhat it means to say “The Lord has helped us — thus far”If your life feels like a battlefield — or if you're trying to serve God without first giving Him your heart — this passage is a needed reset.Catch On Fire PodcastsThis channel does a deep dive into the scriptures so as to teach what it means to be...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Second Baptist Church - Houston, TX | 1 Samuel 7 marks the first time in approximately 70 years where there is national revival in Israel. After a long, slow, steady spiritual descent, their sudden drop-off perfectly aligns with God's long, slow, steady ascension of Samuel to help bring the nation back to righteousness and peace. Their national 'turning point' involved 5 critical elements that are just as true for us today as it was back then, for them. The question is, what it be for us?
