Are we trying to manipulate God or worship Him? Is God's presence in your life a source of joy or judgment? In 1 Samuel 5, the Philistines believed they had conquered the God of Israel by capturing the ark, but what unfolds next is a powerful revelation: God cannot be controlled, co-opted, or contained. His hand brings victory over idols, judgment upon His enemies, and—ultimately—redemption through Christ for those who turn to Him in faith. In his sermon, “The Hand of the Lord,” Pastor Josiah unpacks the triumph of God's holiness over Dagon, the terror that falls on the Philistines, and the redemptive hope that shines bright in our lives when we reach out to the One who bore the hand of judgment in our place—Jesus Christ!
Are there areas in your life where you are trusting in religious activity—rather than in God's Word? What would it look like for your church to lose the presence of God but keep the appearance of faith? In 1 Samuel 4, Israel suffers a devastating defeat—not merely militarily, but spiritually—as the ark of God is captured and His glory departs. Despite having access to the Word of God through the prophet Samuel, the people ignore it and instead place their trust in a sacred object, assuming God's power could be wielded apart from faithful submission. This presumption leads to judgment: the priesthood collapses, the ark is lost, and “Ichabod” is declared—the glory has departed. But the story of Scripture doesn't end in Ichabod. Through judgment, God prepares the way for restoration. In Christ, the glory returns—not in a box, but in a savior. Emmanuel—God with us—is the name now written over those who receive Him by faith.
When was the last time you slowed down enough to hear God's voice? What do you do when God's Word is hard to receive? In a time when God's voice was rarely heard and spiritual darkness covered the land, the Lord broke His silence—not through a priest or a king, but through a young boy named Samuel. This moment would mark a turning point in Israel's history and reveal something essential about how God speaks—and how we must respond. In his message, “When God Speaks,” centered on 1 Samuel 3:1-21, Pastor Josiah explores the critical difference between those who reject God's word and those who receive it in faith. God is still speaking. The question is—are we listening?
Does your worship reflect a heart that fears and honors God—or is it centered on yourself? Are you faithfully serving the Lord even when no one notices? In a world where spiritual leadership is often compromised and worship reduced to performance, 1 Samuel 2:12–36 reveals a sobering truth: God is not indifferent to how He is worshiped. As the sons of Eli defile the priesthood with selfishness and sin, God is already at work raising up a faithful servant—Samuel—who will honor Him. In his sermon, “The Heart of Worship,” Pastor Josiah explores the contrast between corrupt and faithful worship, reminding us that God sees every heart, judges unfaithfulness righteously, and exalts those who walk humbly before Him.
Are you looking for hope in the middle of your brokenness? What if the silence you're experiencing is the soil where God is preparing your heart for the King? In a time of deep spiritual darkness, God heard the cry of a broken woman named Hannah—and through her sorrow and surrender, He began a redemptive movement that would ultimately lead to the true King. This week, Pastor Josiah preached a message centered on 1 Samuel 1:1-2:11, in which he showed how through Hannah's story, we see God remember the lowly, raise up a prophet, and prepare His people for the hope they didn't yet see coming. Hannah's story is not just about answered prayer—it's about how God works in and through our times of brokenness and despair to bring about salvation and redemption.
What are some of the major concerns in your life? What is something God is calling you to care about today? In his sermon “Caring Enough to Change” centered on Nehemiah 1:1-2:8, Doug Reed shared how Nehemiah cared enough about the community that God placed him in that he helped lead the charge to rebuild the city walls in only 52 days that had been left in ruins for over 144 years. Nehemiah was called by God to act, and he obeyed! What issues in your life is God calling you to act upon? How might we affect our city with the gospel in a drastic way simply by placing our faith in Christ and trusting in him?
Are you searching for hope but not sure where to find it? Have you heard the Resurrection story but never truly experienced the risen Jesus for yourself? Mary came to the tomb expecting death—but instead, she encountered the risen Christ. In this Easter message centered on John 20:1–18, Pastor Josiah shared how Jesus meets us in our brokenness, calls us by name, and sends us out with joy. This isn't just Mary's story—it's the story of every believer! Christ's resurrection may seem like the end of the story, but it's actually the beginning of a new one. For those who profess faith in Christ, the best part of Christ's resurrection – is that it guarantees ours!
When everyone else abandons you, who will stand with you? When the time comes, will Christ be your Advocate—or your Judge? In his final words to Timothy, the apostle Paul describes a time when it appeared as if he stood defeated and alone in a Roman courtroom—but Paul wasn't truly alone. In this powerful conclusion to 2 Timothy, Pastor Josiah shared how as believers, Christ stands with us in every trial, equips us for every moment, and will one day stand for us in the final judgment. Are you trying to stand on your own when you were never meant to? This message is not just about Paul's courage to stand firm for the gospel — it's about the unmerited grace that we receive from Christ and serves as a timely reminder that those who endure in Christ are never alone!
Who do you turn to when life gets tough? Could your friends count on you to stand by them in their darkest hours? In this week's message, based on 2 Timothy 4:9-15, Pastor Josiah explores how the Apostle Paul, facing his final days in a Roman prison, longed for the companionship of faithful friends like Timothy, Mark, and Luke to help him endure his hardships—emphasizing that true friends are vital for surviving life's toughest moments by pointing us to the gospel and Christ's unwavering presence. Dive into the full sermon to discover how faithful friendships not only reflect God's love but also equip us to endure until the end!
In a world where the end often feels near, Paul's words to Timothy ring out with unshakable hope and enduring resolve. In his sermon, “The End Is Near” centered on 2 Timothy 4:6-8, Pastor Josiah shared how even though Paul is facing his final days in a cold prison cell, he has no reason to fear, because the reward waiting for him in eternity, far outweighs the hardships he has experienced in this life. As Paul reflects on a life poured out like a drink offering to God—fiercely fought, faithfully completed, and steadfastly anchored in faith, there is a crown of righteousness that is waiting for Paul. This reward is not earned by his works but secured by his Redeemer. And the best part is, that same prize isn't just for Paul—it's for all who endure, who cling to Christ through every trial, and endure to the end by placing their faith in Him. So, as the clock ticks and eternity looms, the question remains: Are we living for ourselves, chasing fleeting highs “our way,” or are we ready to die for the One who promises life beyond the grave? The end is near, but for the faithful, it's only the beginning of glory.
In his sermon, “Keep On Truckin'” based on 2 Timothy 3:14-17, Pastor Josiah emphasizes the importance of holding fast to Christ and His teachings, especially in times of suffering and persecution. He reminds us that, just as Timothy was encouraged to stay rooted in what he had learned, we too must cling to the truth of Scripture, which is inspired, profitable, authoritative, and beneficial for the work that God has given us to do. By standing firm in God's Word, we gain the strength to endure challenges and finish well in our faith journey. Pastor Josiah urges us to remember that true resilience comes from relying on Christ and remaining steadfast in His truth.
In his sermon entitled "Mentorship Matters," Pastor Josiah emphasizes the importance of learning from godly mentors by looking at Paul's relationship with Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:10-13. He highlights how Paul's example—his teachings, way of life, faith, patience, and endurance—serve as a model for us today. Pastor Josiah encourages us to seek out mentors who will guide us in our faith journey and reminds us that living for Christ often comes with challenges, including persecution. However, by staying rooted in Scripture and following the example of strong Christian mentors, we can stand firm and grow in our walk with God.
In his sermon, “Surviving Hard Times” centered on 2 Timothy 3:1-9, Pastor Josiah examined Paul's counsel to Timothy about the last days, where people will turn away from God and false teachers will lead many astray. Just as Timothy faced challenges in Ephesus, we, too, navigate a broken world filled with deception and hardship. Yet, Paul's words serve as an encouragement—reminding us that hardships in life are a sign of the times, not a reason to lose heart. As believers, we must stand firm in the truth of the Gospel, avoid distractions from false teachings, and embrace the reality that following Christ will often be difficult, but always worth it.
This week, we were truly blessed by Pastor Erik Tisher from Sojourn Church, who delivered a powerful sermon titled 'The Fine China' based on 2 Timothy 2:20-26. It's part of our ongoing series 'Endure,' exploring the book of 2 Timothy.

In his sermon, "An Approved Worker," based on 2 Timothy 2:14-19, Pastor Josiah unpacks these questions and challenges believers to stand firm on biblical truth. As followers of Christ, it's important that we take the time to know and teach Scripture accurately so that we are equipped to share the gospel with confidence in any situation.

What does it look like to remain strong in the grace of Christ Jesus? How do the roles of Soldier, Athlete, and Farmer relate to the gospel ministry? How can we ensure that others will carry the gospel forward after we are gone? In his sermon, “Endure In Grace” centered on 2 Timothy 2:1-7, Pastor Josiah answers these questions and more as he shares how it is only through the grace of Christ that we are able to stand tall and finish well. As sinful fallen people not only are we dependent on the grace of God for our salvation, but we still need the grace of God after we are saved to help sanctify us and equip us to persevere until the Christ's return.
This week we are continuing in our sermon series through the book of 2nd Timothy as Pastor Josiah delivers a sermon centered on 2 Timothy 1:13-18. In his sermon, “Hold Fast,” Pastor Josiah stressed the importance of holding fast to the gospel and standing firm on the truth of God's word. Just as in Timothy's day, there are heretics and false gospels that are seeking to wreak havoc on the church and draw people away from God. It is in light of these threats against the church that Paul encouraged Timothy to hold fast to sound teaching and that we too as 21st Century Christians must stand vigilant as we guard the truth of scripture and help point others to Christ.
As Christians, many of us will experience hardships and difficulties in this life as a result of our faith in Christ. In his sermon, “Walk Boldly,” centered on 2 Timothy 1:6-12, Pastor Josiah speaks to the importance of enduring suffering for the sake of the gospel as he examines Paul's charge to Timothy not to be ashamed of the gospel, but to endure and remain steadfast until Timothy finishes the race set before him. May we all heed Paul's sound advice as we seek to remain faithful until the end and walk boldly with the Lord each day.
Join us this week as Pastor Jeff Winters (Guest Preacher) outlines what it means to “Live On Mission” as he unpacked Christ's command from Mark 16:15, in which Christ instructed his followers to go out into all the world proclaiming the good news of the gospel. We all know that as Christians it is important that we share the gospel with those who are lost. But what does that actually look like in our everyday lives? Tune in to this week's sermon to find out.
Join us this week as we begin a new study through the book of 2nd Timothy. This message emphasizes the importance of passing down a 'heritage of faith' and persevering through hardship. It invites us to reflect on how we can nurture and sustain our own faith in the face of adversity while challenging us to pray for one another, encourage each other, and hold tightly to the gospel as we seek to finish the race set before us.

And how can we know for sure that Christ will return again one day? In his sermon, “A Final Promise,” centered on Malachi 3:1-6 & 4:1-6, Pastor Josiah Walker addressed these questions as he shared how the birth of Christ was foretold through the prophet Malachi and showed how John the Baptist was a servant of Christ and a messenger of the kingdom.

Are Christians allowed to associate with people who aren't like them? In his sermon, “Factions & Family,” centered on Acts 11:1-30, Pastor Jeff Winters (Guest Preacher) addressed these questions as he shared how as Christians, we are commanded to share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone and be obedient to the Spirit's leading as Jesus saves a people for himself. In the Church of Christ there is no such thing as second-class members. As believers, each one of us has been redeemed by Christ regardless of our differences. Therefore, we should ensure that there are no isolating factions or destructive behaviors among our brothers and sisters but rather be committed to following Jesus as a faithful family of believers.

In his sermon, “Chosen & Sent,” centered on Acts 9:1-31, Pastor Jeff Winters (Guest Preacher) answers these questions by sharing how Saul, later called Paul, was chosen by God to share the gospel and advance God's Kingdom to the ends of the earth. Because of Paul's faithfulness to answer God's call and follow the Holy Spirit's leading, the church in Judea and the surrounding areas grew as the people were strengthened by the Lord. Can the Christian trust that God will see His Will accomplished?Robbie Tschorn answers these questions and more in the sermon “God Cannot Be Stopped” (Acts 5:12-42). When opposition arises outside of and even within the church, the Christian can rest assured that God's power will forever be on display and that He will see to it that the Good News of Jesus be advanced. What does honoring each other look like in the Bible? Who are the true widows? Who is the Church supposed to help? In his sermon, “Honoring Others Honors God” (1 Timothy 5:1-6:2), Robbie Tschorn answers these questions and more as he speaks about the call for believers to honor God by honoring others. Christians are representatives of Jesus and get the wonderful privilege and opportunity of modeling the Gospel to the world. In 1 Timothy, Paul says that this is accomplished by encouraging everyone, taking care of those in need, looking out for your local Pastor, and honoring those who are in authority over you. These are simple, yet Biblical ways to honor and please God. When a church follows these commands, along with the rest laid out in Paul's letter, they will be the Church that God intends them to be. How do we avoid false gospels? How can we guard ourselves against heresies that rise up in opposition to God's word? What does it take to stand firm on God's truth? In his sermon, “Stand for Truth,” Pastor Josiah shares how it is important for us to know, live, and proclaim the gospel in order to stand firm against false doctrines and untruthful heresies that contradict God's word.As Christians, God has called us to do more than just read our Bibles. He has commissioned us as ambassadors of the King to be his faithful witnesses in the times and places where he has called us. Just like Paul, we have been entrusted with the gospel. As a result, it is important that we know, live, and proclaim the gospel everywhere we go.This sermon was preached on June 23rd, 2024. Copyright 2024. This Sunday was a special day at Redeeming Life Church as we installed Josiah Walker as our new Lead Pastor. Today, Pastor Bryan preached his last message at our church entitled “Words To Live By” centered on Philippians 1:27-28 and then Pastor Josiah delivered his first sermon as our Lead Pastor entitled “Be Devoted” out of Acts 2:42-47.Between these two sermons, in the middle of the service, we laid hands on Pastor Josiah, prayed over him, and installed him as our Senior Pastor. We pray you are blessed by the faithful exposition of God's word delivered this week by our Pastors and ask that you join us in prayer as we look forward with eager anticipation to this next season at Redeeming Life as we seek to be a people who know, live, and proclaim the word of God!
What did Jesus mean when he told his disciples, “I am the vine…you are the branches”? How does being connected to Christ affect our prayer life? How can abiding in Christ change our outlook on life?In his sermon, “Stay Connected!” (John 15:1-8), Pastor Josiah answers these questions as he shares how apart from Christ, we will never be able to accomplish anything of eternal significance.Apart from Christ our ship is sunk. Apart from the vine, the branches (non-believers) wither and die. They are gathered up and thrown into the fire. These words from Christ serve as a reminder of the final judgement that is yet to come. For those who reject Christ, the struggles of this life, are blessings compared to what awaits them in eternity. However, for those of us who remain in Christ, and who are kept by Him, our lives are completely transformed and renewed each day. When we abide in Christ, He changes us and sanctifies us as we mature and grow in our Christian journey. This sermon was preached on June 9th, 2024. Copyright 2024.
