Although, Adrienne Benton grew up as a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, it was in 1999 that she wholeheartedly gave her life to Jesus and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior. Now, she revels in the daily opportunities given her to stay intimately connected with the lover of her soul who is unlike none other. “Lord there is none like you” is the song her heart sings. Chaplain Adrienne Townsend Benton formerly served as an Associate Dean of Women for Lamson Hall located on the campus of Andrews University. Simultaneously, she served as an associate minister on the pastoral staff of Andrews University’s New Life Seventh-day Adventist Fellowship from 2002 to 2008. Her responsibilities included providing pastoral care, planning, and implementing opportunities for students to come in contact with Jesus Christ. Chaplain Benton holds an A.S. in Early Childhood, B.A. in Elementary Education and Psychology, MA in Curriculum and Instruction, and the Master of Divinity degree from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. In addition to this, Chaplain Townsend Benton was commissioned into the U.S. Navy Chaplain Candidate program in June 2005. Lieutenant Townsend Benton superseded into active duty in June 2008 as the first US Navy Seventh day Adventist female Chaplain. In her varied assignments she ministers to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families and has used the gifts God has seen fit to entrust her with to meet the specific needs of this community. Chaplain Townsend Benton is in awe of a God who has called her to non-traditional ministry to show how Christ is real and relevant to the needs of people in everyday living. She is married to Theron Benton and they currently live and serve in South Carolina. Chaplain Benton was asked why she chose this particular ministry path. Her response was simple, “The opportunity to bring hope and the light of Christ to precious souls in the dark corners of life is a mission that I am privileged to embrace daily.” Website https://www.forwardmovementministries.org Social Media: Facebook: Forward Movement Ministries ; Instagram: @fm_ministries . Whether it be getting to know new people, watching a new show, contemporary worship music or trying to interpret scripture, this fear often does more harm than good. Join Dan and Jo in this episode as they continue their response to the message they received on Facebook while reflecting on their experience as an interracial gay Adventist Christian couple and the fear of deception. Cass Midgley and Bob Pondillo talk with Lisa Hope. She Skyped in from the Netherlands. She and her husband are US Diplomats. Lisa was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist Christian in rural Pennsylvania. She became a SDA Pastor and was a Chaplain on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, and it’s just in the past year that Lisa has begun identifying as “solidly agnostic.” Lisa has lived outside of the US since 2012, she lost her first husband to brain cancer, and been struck by lightning. She's an adventurer, she rock climbs, hikes, rides horses, sails, scuba dives, and and paraglide. She is currently building her leadership and life coaching practice online www.lisa-hope.com. She enjoys helping people connect with themselves, with the people they love, and with their purpose, which sound like great tools for post-faith people. We lost our Skype connection with Lisa near the very end and couldn't get her back so the interview cuts off cold with no goodbyes. There's a link to her go-pro videos of her adventures and her website lisa-hope.com. We taped this conversation on September 30th, 2017. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts.
