Planning for today's show took an unexpected twist late last night when the news broke that North Melbourne's number one draft pick Jason Horne-Francis will request a trade back to South Australia. Former teammate at South Adelaide, Bryce Gibbs, did his best to answer the why with Hayesy and a heap of callers and texters offering up ideas on how the trade would get done. The boys also examined Adelaide Crows list manager Justin Reid's comments from last Friday on AFL Trade Radio. The man who broke the Jason Horne-Francis story, Cal Twomey from AFL Trade radio, was a special guest on today's show. Michelangelo Rucci didn't worry about the early start on a long weekend Monday and was positively beaming about the prospect of Horne-Francis lining up in Port Adelaide colors next season.
The man who broke the news last night that Jason Horne-Francis would be requesting a trade home to South Australia, from AFL.com.au, is Cal Twomey. With what has become the biggest sports story of the year in Adelaide, Twomey discusses why Horne-Francis has backflipped on his position from a month ago and also why Port Adelaide is the front runner to secure his signature.
Justin Reid joined Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge on AFL Trade Radio last week. Bryce and Hayesy went through Justin's comments on topics such as the Rankine trade, Matt Crouch's future, how the rebuild is tracking, and what is likely to happen with Billy Frampton and James Rowe.
“This is likely to be the biggest trade week in history”7.05 - “The vision of Jack Graham touring Port Adelaide would have been frowned upon in times past, but free agency has helped the competition mature”.7.06 – BG “Is Graham a good fit for Port Adelaide?” BS “I think he would be a good fit for anyone given his age and experience. I see Port being a big improver in 2023”.7.07 – “Nothing has really come out yet regarding key defenders. Port needs one but their existing backline looks solid. It will be hard to get their hands on a key back from another club”.BG “The Crows are all in for Rankine. Is there anyone else they could pick off this trade period?”. “Probably not. They'll go to the draft with their remaining picks unless they can find someone with elite speed and ball using skills that is gettable”.7.12 “Carlton will be a massive improver and I expect them to be in the top four next year”.7.15 “Joel Selwood will eventually make the Hall of fame and will be elevated to legend status
Bryce Gibbs's hair was again a topic of conversation at the start of the show with Hayesy taking to Twitter and asking listeners what they thought. Joel Selwood's retirement was given the respect it commands and the frightening audio of former Matilda Ellisa Caravaras getting carjacked mid-radio interview also got tongues wagging. After 7 am it was back-to-back to back-to-back interviews with Brenton Sanderson from AFL Trade Radio talking to the boys about Jack Graham, Isaac Rankine, and his thoughts on Joel Selwood. Michelangelo Rucci described the Graham situation as like something out of the “Keystone Cops”. Hayesy, and anyone under the age of 50, had no idea what that meant. The AFLW's first Showdown dominated conversation from 7.30 am. Port Adelaide coach Lauren Arnell revealed she had called in one of Port Adelaide's master motivators to speak with her group through the week. Crows Premiership star Ebony Marinoff revealed a far more laid-back approach to the week at West Lakes after their record demolition of GWS the previous week. After 8 am SA Scorpion and Australian women's cricket team fast bowler Darcie Brown called in to chat about her visit to Poultney Grammar yesterday and what lays ahead for her this summer.
