Japan's political scene is changing—from new parties rising in visibility to historic moments in national leadership—so the Krewe is bringing you a timely crash course. Political analyst Tobias Harris (Founder & Principal of Japan Foresight) joins the pod to break down the foundations of Japan's government system, how it compares to the U.S., and why voters view politics the way they do. We explore the major and emerging parties shaping the landscape, the issues driving debate today, and how international pressures and global events influence domestic policy. Tobias also sheds light on the media's role in shaping public perception and political accountability.------ About the Krewe ------The Krewe of Japan Podcast is a weekly episodic podcast sponsored by the Japan Society of New Orleans.

In this episode of Bandwagon Nerds, the guys continue their review of Season 4 of The Witcher. Episode 2 is a significant improvement and a hopeful step in the right direction, marked by the introduction of Lawrence Fishburne to the cast. How big a difference might his character make to Season 4 as a whole, and how are the guys feeling about the overall direction of Season 4 so far? A journey to the Trailer Park revealed the title for the sequel to Godzilla: Minus-One, as well as the first look at Michael, a Stranger Things animated spin-off, and a bloody new (ish) version of Kill Bill, coming to theaters next month. Speaking of Stranger Things, the fellas address an ugly rumor about David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown. All that plus pending sequels for Gremlins, The Mummy, a possible Miss Piggy movie, and much more!@AttitudeAgg@WrestlngRealist@itsReyCash@PCTunney@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@TheMindlessPod@therealcplatt@ChairshotMedia@BandwagonNerdsPROWRESTLINGTEES.COM/TheChairshot - Makes a GREAT GIFT!!!About Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd and maybe add some new nerds along the way. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 189-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 27,906 on turnover of 8.8-billion N-T. MOFA still in talks with Estonia over opening reciprocal offices Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung says the government is still in talks with Estonia on the "name and legal status" related to setting up reciprocal (互惠的) representative offices. Speaking during a legislative hearing, Lin said the ongoing talks are focusing on issues such as the title of the representative offices, their legal status, and other concerns related to diplomatic immunity and privileges. The statement follows reports that the government is hoping the office will follow the formula of its counterpart in Lithuania, called the "Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania." However, Estonia is reportedly insisting on using the title "Taipei" due to concerns about a backlash from China. DPP claims 'most' people oppose opposition pension proposals The D-P-P legislative caucus says a recent survey shows a majority (多數) of people oppose bills proposed by the K-M-T to end annual cuts to civil servant pensions. The survey was conducted by the D-P-P. According to D-P-P lawmaker Wu Si-yao, it found that 59.7-per cent of respondents supported continuing pension reforms initiated by the D-P-P in 2016, while only 31.7-per cent thought they should be stopped. Wu says stopping reforms will exacerbate inequality between active and retired workers, civil servants and workers receiving labor, farmer and national pensions. The K-M-T legislative caucus has placed the bills at the top of its priority for the current legislative session. Philippine Typhoon Death Toll Rises Philippine officials say the death toll from flooding and damage caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi has risen to at least 114. Kalmaegi moved away from western Palawan province into the South China Sea before noon Wednesday and was heading toward Vietnam. Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC are joined by Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, Dame Emily Thornberry, to discuss the evidence given to the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy by key individuals involved in the decisions to prosecute and ultimately abandon the Chinese Spying case (R v Cash and Berry). In a highly unusual public examination of the collapse of a politically sensitive prosecution only weeks before it was due to commence, the Joint Committee subjected DPP Stephen Parkinson, First Treasury Counsel Tom Little KC, Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Collins and Attorney General Lord Hermer KC to detailed cross examination over some 4 ½ hours with a view to understanding what had changed since the charging decision in April 2024 to make the case against Messrs Cash and Berry impossible to continue as the DPP and Tom Little claimed. Did the judgment in the Russian spy case (R v Roussev) handed down in July 2024 really make any difference to the DPP's ability to present a case under the Official Secrets Act 1911? Given the clear and consistent evidence of China's active threat to the safety and security of the UK during the indictment period as set out in Matt Collins's three witness statements, why couldn't a jury determine that China was in law “an enemy” for the purposes of the charge? And was Lord Hermer right to lay the blame for the collapse of the trial on the failure of the Conservative government speedily to replace the 1911 Act with an updated National Security Act as recommended by the Law Commission in 2017? -- Covering the critical intersections of politics and law in the UK with expert commentary on high-profile legal cases, political controversies, prisons and sentencing, human rights law, current political events and the shifting landscape of justice and democracy. With in-depth discussions and influential guests, Double Jeopardy is the podcast that uncovers the forces shaping Britain's legal and political future. What happens when politics and law collide? How do politics shape the law - and when does the law push back? What happens when judicial independence is tested, human rights come under attack, or freedom of expression is challenged? And who really holds power in Britain's legal and political system? Get answers to questions like these weekly on Wednesdays. Double Jeopardy is presented by Ken Macdonald KC, former Director of Public Prosecutions, and Tim Owen KC, as they break down the legal and political issues in Britain. From high-profile legal cases to the evolving state of British democracy, Double Jeopardy offers expert legal commentary on the most pressing topics in UK law, politics, and human rights. Ken Macdonald KC served as Director of Public Prosecutions from 2003-2008, shaping modern prosecutorial policy and advocating for the rule of law. He is a former Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, a crossbench member of the House of Lords, and a leading writer, commentator and broadcaster on politics and the rule of law. Tim Owen KC has been involved in many of the most significant public, criminal and human rights law cases over the past four decades. Both bring unparalleled experience from the frontline of Britain's legal and political landscape. In this episode of Bandwagon Nerds, the guys are back, so is The Witcher, and PC Tunney needs your support. Tunney is rather displeased with the start of Season 4 and not just because Liam Hemsworth has replaced Henry Cavill in the titular role of Geralt. But what did Patrick and Dave think of the first Episode, and are there reasons to believe Season 4 might still be good? A limited visit to the Trailer Park looks at the official trailer for one of the most anticipated series returning to Netflix in a few weeks, Stranger Things Season 5, as well as the seventh (yes, seventh!) installment of the Scream franchise. There is also a lot of news around the Nerdosphere. Call of Duty is on its way to the big screen.
Christine Russo sits with Anja Sadock of TrusTrace. Anja traced the company's origins back to an activist effort in India, where the founders witnessed firsthand the environmental toll of textile manufacturing on local farmland. That grassroots motivation grew into a global traceability platform designed to help brands see and prove what's happening across their supply chains. Today, TrusTrace provides data and verification tools so companies can understand the social and environmental risks embedded in their sourcing—from forced labor to deforestation—and act on them with real evidence rather than assumptions. Anja described this as essential for accountability and impact, not just compliance. We also discussed the growing regulatory momentum behind traceability, including digital product passports (DPP). While Anja emphasized that most companies are still preparing for the DPP framework, she underscored how it can become a competitive advantage when paired with solid data infrastructure. Rather than fixating on DPP mechanics, she highlighted the bigger picture: traceability as a foundational capability that enables readiness for future regulations, risk management, and even consumer engagement through transparency and repair initiatives. By the time DPPs are fully active toward the end of the decade, brands that have already built credible, data-driven traceability systems will be the ones positioned to lead.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by the incredible screenwriter, showrunner, producer and dungeon master CRAIG MAZIN!Craig is a self proclaimed Pipster! Which bodes incredibly well as an opening gambit right there... This is such a treat of an episode which anyone possessing an interest in the making of television (and cinema in general) will get an immense kick out of. Chances are you will know Craig from his recent work on The Last Of Us, some of you may go back to the Chernobyl miniseries times, and some even further to the Hangover movies, but none of these can be considered pigeonholes. There is so much in the craft of these projects, and as viewers of them will know - the humanity is undeniable, and that's something that just cannot be faked or phoned-in. So what you hear here is a conversation with someone who makes incredible shows and movies, informed by a love of the work, the people involved, and life in general. To hear that he was once blamed by a critic for being "singularly responsible for degrading Western Civilization" will make absolutely negative sense by the time you've heard this. Oh and stay for the shared Barney story too, cos that rules. Basically - too much to sum up here - just listen and enjoy, it's a classic DPP right here!PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureIMDBSCRIPTNOTES podcast (book here)THE LAST OF USCHERNOBYLSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Compatriots from Taiwan will be invited to attend a commemorative gathering marking the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China, which will be held around Saturday on the mainland, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday. Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that representatives from various sectors, including Taiwan compatriots, will be invited to attend the event, while related visits and exchange activities will also be organized. Highlighting the significance of Taiwan's restoration as an important achievement of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), Zhu said the commemoration aims to unite Chinese people from all over the world, including compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. It aims to bring them together to jointly remember the history of the war, pay tribute to the heroes who fought against Japanese invaders, safeguard the victorious outcome of the war, which is Taiwan's return to the motherland, and protect the common home of the Chinese nation, she said. Zhu added that Taiwan compatriots are welcome to join their mainland counterparts in sharing the pride and dignity of being Chinese. On Oct 16, Taiwan's "mainland affairs council" banned public officials from participating in commemorative events on the mainland marking the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery. The order also requires members of school faculties, political parties and organizations, as well as related individuals, to refrain from participating in any mainland-organized activities or events.10 月 16 日,台湾地区所谓 “大陆事务委员会” 禁止公职人员参与大陆举办的纪念台湾光复 80 周年相关活动。 Zhu condemned this separatist stance of "Taiwan independence" of the Democratic Progressive Party authorities, saying that it distorts and denies historical facts and undervalues the victory in the war of resistance. By intimidating and suppressing Taiwan compatriots from participating in related commemorative events, the DPP authorities have completely abandoned the national stance, which already faces opposition and will increasingly face more opposition and condemnation from the people of Taiwan," she said. Referring to the DPP's demand of "equal dialogue" with the mainland, Zhu said it is an attempt to resume cross-Strait consultations without recognizing the 1992 Consensus, and distorts the historical and legal fact that both sides of the Strait belong to one China. In essence, this only creates obstacles for cross-Strait dialogue and consultations, and is doomed to fail," she said, emphasizing that the 1992 Consensus continues to serve as the anchor of peace across the Strait. According to the spokeswoman, cross-Strait tourism is being mainly hindered by the DPP authorities, as tour groups from Fujian province and Shanghai have been unable to visit Taiwan despite having received permits from the mainland earlier this year. The mainstream public opinion in Taiwan supports peace, development, exchanges and cooperation. With the China spying case continuing to generate headlines, mystery and yet more uncertainty surrounding the true reason for the DPP's decision to drop charges against Chris Cash and Chris Berry under the Official Secrets Act 1911, and Double Jeopardy having been sent an anonymously leaked copy of his expert witness statement, Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC secure an exclusive interview with Professor Kerry Brown, the former UK diplomat, academic and China expert who was due to be a defence witness on behalf of Chris Berry had the case gone to trial. Ken and Tim discuss with Prof Brown a number of the issues he was due to cover at the trial – the recent history of UK/China relations; the networks in Britain engaged with China; the structure of decision-making in China; whether Chris Berry could conceivably have met the second most powerful man in China, Cai Qi, as the Security Services had “assessed”, in the course of his alleged spying activities; analysis of the likely security and intelligence value of the information passed between Cash, Berry and the alleged Chinese State Security agent “Alex”; and, finally, the concept of China as an “enemy” State. Bearing in mind the force, clarity and weight which was bound to be attached to Prof Brown's defence report, Ken and Tim suggest that the timing of the service of his report and the DPP's decision to drop the case appears to be more than a coincidence. Was service of the Brown report on 29th August 2025 the trigger for the meeting convened on 1st September (Chaired by National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell and attended by 20 senior mandarins and spy chiefs as well as Doug Wilson, director-general of the attorney general's office) where the general theme was how the UK's relationship with China was going to be damaged by the case and where the main “action point”, according to Caroline Wheeler's well briefed article in the Times, was for the AG's office to relay these concerns to the DPP? The duo conclude by agreeing that unless and until the written advice given to the DPP by prosecuting counsel, Tom Little KC, as to why the case was dropped is published following a waiver of privilege by the Attorney General, the mystery surrounding this case will continue. ----------- Covering the critical intersections of politics and law in the UK with expert commentary on high-profile legal cases, political controversies, prisons and sentencing, human rights law, current political events and the shifting landscape of justice and democracy. In the wake of Robert Jenrick's speech to the Conservative Party Conference likening Attorney General Lord Hermer KC to a “Mafia lawyer”, accusing him and Keir Starmer of treason in relation to the Chagos Islands agreement and calling for the sacking of “activist” Judges together with the return of political appointments to our judiciary, Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC ask whether Jenrick's disgusting, populist bile make him the Stephen Miller of UK politics. They also debate the Government's kneejerk response to further demonstrations in support of Palestine Action in the form of Shabana Mahmood's promise to legislate to ban protests on the basis of “cumulative disruption” to the community, despite there being ample powers under existing laws to do just that. The duo then revisit the continuing mystery of why the DPP felt he had to abandon the criminal trial of Christopher Berry and Christoper Cash on charges of spying for China under the Official Secrets Act 1911 before finishing with praise for the judgment of Mr Justice Bennathan in acquitting a Turkish man for burning a Koran outside the Turkish Consulate in Knightsbridge earlier this year in protest at the Islamisation policies of the Erdogan government. There was a lot to love about the finale, and many questions remain unanswered, such as what will happen to Chris, what the deal is with that creepy alien, and how the bands Nelson and Steel Panther featured so prominently in the finale. We have all the details for you this week. A trip to the Trailer Park looks at a range of trailers, including Die My Love, the latest from Timothée Chalamet, in Marty Supreme, a trailer for the MCU's Wonder Man that left the guys wanting more, a new Game of Thrones series, and, of course, the Nerds' impressions of the official trailer for The Witcher Season 4. Also, New York Comic Con was this past weekend, generating all sorts of news relating to Daredevil Born Again Season 2, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and lots of speculation about how the two properties will cross over. Lessons from Cameron-Brooks Alumni on Military to Business Transition Success Each Cameron-Brooks Career Conference represents a major career event for our JMOs. In these military to business transition successes, officers together years of military service and months, (maybe even years of preparation in the Development and Preparation Program). Then, they interview with Industry leading companies in business. Our JMOs at the August 2025 Career Conference averaged 10.3 interviews over a two-day period. Additionally, every single JMO was pursued into the follow up process. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with my teammate Geoff Fries and three Cameron-Brooks alumni who attended the August Conference. In this episode, they share their experiences and insights pre-conference in DPP, during the conference, and during the post-conference where they earned offers, evaluated them and made a decision to launch their next career. Together, we unpacked their stories and explored what their preparation, mindset, and execution looked like resulting in their military to business transition successes. Below, I'll highlight their lessons, strategies, and mindsets - from early preparation to behavioral interviews and ultimately into final decision-making. Meet the Alumni: Three Distinct Paths to Success Before diving into strategies, here's where these three standout officers landed: Matt Dahlager, an Army Military Intelligence Captain, joined Ubicquia, a smart grid technology company that leverages sensors and AI to improve energy infrastructure. He'll serve as an Area Sales Manager for the Ohio River Valley region. Spencer Preston, a former Marine Corps officer, accepted a role as a Summit Fellow at USAA in San Antonio, Texas. He'll rotate through key leadership areas such as CEO staff, property and casualty operations, or CFO development roles. Weslee Warren, a Navy Surface Warfare Officer, joined Corning Optical Communications in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he'll work as a Technical Program Manager driving fiber-to-the-premises projects and collaborating with engineering and product teams. Building a Foundation: Start Early One of the strongest themes in our conversation was the value of time spent in DPP. On average, candidates spend about 11 months preparing through the Cameron-Brooks program. Spencer prepared for 38 months. Wes spent about one year. Matt invested nearly two years. During that time, Cameron-Brooks was able to meet them multiple times for in person and virtual preparation sessions, which allowed them to: Build Trust with Cameron-Brooks Early engagement allowed each candidate to develop a trusted relationship with the Cameron-Brooks team - vital since our team members advocate for each candidate directly with partner companies. Conduct Self-Assessment and Reflection Before they could tell their story to companies, they had to understand it themselves. This meant revisiting military experiences in order to translate their military experiences into relevant business leadership accomplishment with clear impact and results. Leadership, problem-solving, mission alignment, etc. and how that translates into private-sector value. Learn Business Skills and Apply them They didn't just study business - they applied it. By integrating recognized industry concepts that they learned in DPP such as Lean Six Sigma into their current military duties, they created concrete examples that later became powerful interview stories. Invest in themselves Hundreds of hours of practice, reflection, and preparation went into preparation before the Conference. Learning to Speak the Language of Business Each alumnus emphasized how critical it was to learn the language of the Business. Their Go-To Learning Tools: Books and Business Education: They read extensively - diving into leadership, finance, and operations management books, reviews, articles,
After a brief explanation for the non-appearance of last week's episode (severe back pain and hard-core painkillers) Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC review Reform's rapidly evaporating policy agenda, Keir Starmer's rhetorical revival and Kemi Badenoch's predictable decision to dump the European Convention on Human Rights and repeal the Human Rights Act having taken legal advice from Lord Wolfson KC. They then revisit the mysterious – and as yet unexplained – decision by the DPP to abandon the prosecution of Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry on charges of spying for China two weeks before their Old Bailey trial was due to start. Was it really because UK National Security adviser Jonathan Powell directed that China could not be characterised in open court as “an enemy” under the Official Secrets Act 1911, thereby shafting the prosecution's case at the eleventh hour? Or was it to avoid the embarrassment of a hopelessly weak case being exposed by the defence? Finally, Ken celebrates Ed Miliband's Conference call for Elon Musk “to get the hell out of our politics” and doubles down on his contempt for the Silicon Valley tech tyrants who seek to lecture us about free speech and cancel culture. --- Covering the critical intersections of politics and law in the UK with expert commentary on high-profile legal cases, political controversies, prisons and sentencing, human rights law, current political events and the shifting landscape of justice and democracy. In this episode of Bandwagon Nerds, the Nerds return to discuss the penultimate Episode of Peacemaker Season 2. This was a relatively short Episode, but boy howdy, did it pack all sorts of action, humor, shocks, and emotion into the little time they had. At the end of the day, Chris seems like a broken man, setting the stage for what should be an amazing and wild season finale. An extended trip to the Trailer Park explores the question of Who Killed the Montreal Expos? But we also explore another zombie apocalypse movie (We Bury the Dead), the almost guaranteed-to-be-controversial The Carpenter's Son, and an upcoming documentary about the one and only, Martin Scorsese. The Simpsons 2 is coming, but even the hardcore fans seem less than enthused. Speaking of being less than enthused, Microsoft alienated many Xbox owners by increasing the price of Game Pass Ultimate. On the other hand, EA stockholders must be thrilled as the company was sold for a staggering $55 billion! All this, plus the evolving landscape of AI continues to create issues in many circles of the entertainment industry.Powered by RedCircle@AttitudeAgg@WrestlngRealist@itsReyCash@PCTunney@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@TheMindlessPod@therealcplatt@ChairshotMedia@BandwagonNerdsPROWRESTLINGTEES.COM/TheChairshot - Makes a GREAT GIFT!!!About Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd and maybe add some new nerds along the way. In this week's episode of China Insider, Miles Yu provides a summary of Xi Jinping's recent trip to Xinjiang to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the region's founding, and the significance of this visit in contrast to Beijing's ongoing persecution of the Uyghur people. Next, Miles unpacks the latest developments within the CCP's influence operations and misinformation campaigns against Taiwan that aim to provoke instability and conflict between the DPP led executive and KMT controlled Legislative Yuan. Finally, Miles reviews President Trump's recent statements at the UN General Assembly regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and what this could mean for China and their perceived role in the conflict. In this episode of Bandwagon Nerds, Patrick and Dave discuss the latest episode of Peacemaker. As suspected, Peacemaker's optimal Universe was anything but that, as we saw the introduction of Earth X into a multiverse that has already been one crazy surprise after another. How does this set the stage for what should be a wild final two Episodes of this second season? The guys also delve into the entertainment industry's response to current political events, the impact of Disney's decision to reinstate Jimmy Kimmel, and whether Apple made the right call by delaying The Savant. A quick visit to the trailer park reveals the latest offerings, including It: Welcome to Derry, Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3, and the guys discuss the teaser trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu. Dave was less than enthralled with the first look at one of the most anticipated Star Wars films of recent years. Is he justified or just expecting too much too soon? The conversation shifts to wrestling and film crossovers, including the casting of Drew McIntyre in the Highlander reboot and the anticipated biopic about Randy Savage. With Parliament in recess till mid-October, Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC reflect on a number of issues which have dominated the headlines over the past week. After a brief apology from Tim for misquoting in last week's episode Lord Hermer's evidence to the House of Lords Constitution Committee on the issue of reform of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), Ken and Tim discuss what may lie behind the Director of Public Prosecutions' (DPP) decision suddenly to drop serious charges of spying for China contrary to the Official Secrets Act 1911 against Christopher Berry and Christopher Cash only a few weeks before they were due to stand trial at the Old Bailey – was it because of the legal difficulty in proving that China was an “enemy” State? Or, more likely, was it because the DPP concluded that his duty of disclosure to secure a fair trial meant he had to disclose material which the Security Services were unwilling to reveal for reasons of national security? They then debate the interview with Dr Mike Hall on The Trial of Lucy Letby Podcast conducted by Daily Mail journalists Liz Hull and Caroline Cheetham – instructed by Lucy Letby's defence team as an expert in neonatal medicine, Dr Hall attended every day of Letby's 10 month trial but was ultimately not called as a defence witness for what he concludes were “tactical reasons”. He attacks what he calls “the game of law” which meant, in his view, that the jury were deprived of crucial alternative expert evidence which may have undermined the prosecution's medical case on causation. Ken then lays into the extraordinary behaviour of tech behemoth Meta in defending its use of back-to school pictures of schoolgirls as young as 13 to promote its Threads site as “bait” to attract adult male followers. The duo conclude with a less than complimentary review of an article in the Daily Telegraph by former Tory Attorney General Sir Michael Ellis KC where he sets out his 10 ways to save the UK from the road to ruin. Is Ellis simply a fool to be ignored or should his ideas be taken seriously as yet another indication of the rise of radical right-wing populism? --- Covering the critical intersections of politics and law in the UK with expert commentary on high-profile legal cases, political controversies, prisons and sentencing, human rights law, current political events and the shifting landscape of justice and democracy. By Matthew Ekholm, Digital Product Passport and Circularity Specialist at Protokol Over the last three years, the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) has developed from an uncertain legislative exercise to a clear and imminent directive for businesses across the electronics, business and furniture sectors. Having initially come into force over the summer of 2024 in the hope of making sustainable products the norm in the EU, businesses globally are having to get to grips with the intricacies of the regulation. So far, we know who the regulation is set to affect, that being any business placing products from the priority groups into the EU marketplace. A clear requirement of the regulation is also the EU''s mandating of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) which is being regulated across product groups. The EU's ESPR roadmap As the regulation sets a range of complex requirements, which differ depending on the product group targeted, businesses looking to stay ahead of this shifting regulation should keep the following three milestones on their radar over the coming years. Action 1: The announcement of the ESPR and its subsequent Energy Labelling Working Plan 2025-2030 (Released in April 2025) After the ESPR came into force in July 2024, there has been a long wait for more clarity on the task for businesses across priority sectors. Finally, in April this year, the Working Plan was published. This has outlined a range of requirements (across vertical and horizontal categories) pertinent to businesses in each sector impacted. For example, for electronics businesses, horizontal requirements such as repairability scoring (which likely includes consumer electronics), recycled content, and the recyclability of electronic equipment will be a key focus. At the same time, for businesses in named vertical industries, such as the textile sector, the Working Plan outlines expectations for material efficiency while reducing the impact on water and waste generation, as well as energy consumption. There are just two examples of how this regulatory update is set to advise and impact different sectors accordingly. The Working Plan says that every product for which ecodesign measures will have to be adopted will have a Digital Product Passport (a digital record of information about the product), to open up data access for businesses, consumers, and public authorities. Knowing early on that this will be mandatory allows businesses to start developing strategies for deploying DPPs, identifying where the necessary data resides, and engaging with DPP solution providers. Action 2: Release of Delegated Acts (Expected 2026-2028 or later, varying by industry) By 2027, the EU is expected to publish its first delegated acts - formal guidelines that will define the specific data requirements for DPPs across priority sectors. In some industries, however, these detailed rules may not be available until 2028 or later. Each delegated act is expected to set out what information must be collected and disclosed for the relevant product groups. Because timelines will vary by sector, well-prepared businesses should already know where the necessary data sits within their operations and supply chains, have a clear implementation roadmap, and be ready to begin pilot initiatives with trusted partners. Knowing early on that this will be mandatory allows businesses to start developing strategies for deploying DPPs, identifying where the necessary data resides and engaging with DPP solution providers. Action 3: Compliance (18 months post the delegated acts being released) The timeline for compliance is expected to be up to 18 months from the publication of each of the delegated acts; however the EU can shorten this period if it is well justified, for example, through environmental urgency or alignment with other policies. Following the release of the delegated acts, businesses supplying to or operating within the EU should leverage pilot learnings to st...

The Nerds are back to break down the week in the Nerdosphere. It begins with a review of Episode 5, Season 2, of Peacemaker. Some major events took place in this Episode as Peacemaker has to pay for some of his prior sins, and he makes a huge decision that could have significant consequences for the DCU. A very stripped-down trailer park looks at True Hauntings and the Jack Black led remake of Anaconda. In other news, The Muppet Show is, in fact, making a comeback, Martin Scorsese opts to try his hand at a ghost story, and is Netflix angling to purchase Warner Bros? The guys also pay their respect to the legendary Robert Redford. All that, plus the guys take a look at the Jimmy Kimmel controversy and why the issues in play run a lot deeper than a show being canceled.Powered by RedCircle@AttitudeAgg@WrestlngRealist@itsReyCash@PCTunney@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@TheMindlessPod@therealcplatt@ChairshotMedia@BandwagonNerdsPROWRESTLINGTEES.COM/TheChairshot - Makes a GREAT GIFT!!!About Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd and maybe add some new nerds along the way. The Nerds are back, and none of them are particularly enthralled with what they saw from the brief teaser trailer for The Witcher, Season 4, or, more specifically, one aspect of it. Meanwhile, Episode 4 of Season 2 of Peacemaker continues to set the stage for a dramatic showdown across dimensions. Can Peacemaker find peace in any of them? What is Rick Flag Sr.'s endgame? And portable pocket dimensions? Things are getting weird for our favorite misfit heroes. A more formal trip to the Trailer Park takes a look at trailers for Dust Bunny, The Rip, Wake Up Dead Man, and a brief little teaser for Super Mario Galaxy. In News Around the Nerdosphere, the guys take a look at the changing roster for SNL's 51st season, some huge news about Man of Tomorrow, an injury to Henry Cavill that will likely push Highlander to 2027, and could Paramount be on the verge of another major acquisition in the form of WB-Discovery? At long last, Patrick returns to the show. Suffice it to say, but Patrick does not share Rey's opinion about Peacemaker. Meanwhile, Episode 3 of Season 2 of Peacemaker was all about the best dimension ever. Chris spends a lot of time in this Episode learning that the grass might actually be greener...but is everything as glorious as it would appear to be? The guys break things down for you as we near the halfway point of Season 2. Meanwhile, the Trailer Park takes a look at more creepy stuff with the latest trailers for Black Phone 2 , 28 Years Later, Bone Temple, and Marvel Zombies. The fellas also discuss the upcoming Amazon Prime documentary covering the life of John Candy and how long the guys think it will take for the movie to wreck them absolutely. The guys also get you caught up on the biggest stories in the Nerdosphere, including another studio suing Mid-Journey, a possible Muppet Show reunion, a well-known animation studio going by the wayside, a new Lara Croft, and whether we should be concerned over a delay being announced for Jordan Peele's follow-up to Nope. People from Taiwan said they felt a shared sense of pride in the nation's strength and prosperity as they watched the Chinese mainland's V-Day parade both online and in person on Wednesday. As Taiwan compatriots, our confidence in development stems from the strength of the motherland," said Lin Yen-chen, a Taiwan student who attended the military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Reflecting on the event, Lin said the 14-year resistance highlighted the true meaning of patriotism and national spirit through the sacrifices of countless martyrs. In this great era, we, Taiwan compatriots, must firmly stand on the right side of history and actively contribute to the advancement of national reunification and rejuvenation," he said. Yuann Jeu-jeng, a professor from Taiwan University, expressed his excitement on social media after watching the parade in Tian'anmen Square. "The military parade aims to promote peace, and China always stands on the side of justice," he wrote. In Xiamen, Fujian province, more than 150 Taiwan compatriots gathered to watch the live broadcast of the parade. Cheng Chun-yuan, who brought his mother and children to watch the broadcast, said, "We feel the strength of our nation and the powerful development of our motherland, which made our family feel extremely proud." On Thursday, Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met with Taiwan representatives attending the V-Day commemoration in Beijing.周四,中共中央政治局常委、全国政协主席王沪宁在北京会见了前来参加胜利日纪念活动的台湾代表。Wang stressed the importance of remembering the history of national resistance, upholding the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and jointly opposing separatist efforts toward "Taiwan independence" as well as external interference.王沪宁强调要铭记全民族抗战历史,坚持一个中国原则和“九二共识”,共同反对“台独”分裂行径和外部势力干涉。Across the Strait, high viewership of the V-Day parade underscored enthusiasm for the commemoration. Episode 2 of Season 2 of Peacemaker was a wild affair across the board. Leading the way was Tim Meadows, being politically incorrect in so many hilarious ways that it was hard to keep track. There was a lot to unpack in this week's Episode, including doppelganger dismemberment, rooftop parties with copious amounts of Bud Light, bird blindness, and a bald eagle wrecking everyone and leaving. The guys break it all down. Is Rey feeling better about things this week? You will have to tune in to find out. Meanwhile, the Trailer Park takes a look at some trailers that snuck by us this past week, including the latest for The Lowdown, Wayward, The Savant, and The Woman in Cabin 10. This week was a return to familiarity for your favorite band of Nerds. We begin with a review of Episode 1, of Season 2, of Peacemaker. Two of the Nerds were not really feeling this new Episode as much as the other Nerd was. Did DC's latest effort keep the momentum of Superman rolling, or was this first Episode a misstep? Last week, the Trailer Park was relatively light, but that was not the case this week. Spooky season has arrived, and that was felt in the Trailer Park with some creepy trailers, including Good Boy, Keeper, and Anniversary. In News Around the Nerdosphere, we examine Paramount making some more big moves, Happy Gilmore 2 setting a streaming record, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's stacked (and expanding) cast, and a fun discussion about the best pro wrestlers turned actors. All that plus some What If fantasy booking....BWN style, part 2.Powered by RedCircle@AttitudeAgg@WrestlngRealist@itsReyCash@PCTunney@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@TheMindlessPod@therealcplatt@ChairshotMedia@BandwagonNerdsPROWRESTLINGTEES.COM/TheChairshot - Makes a GREAT GIFT!!!About Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd and maybe add some new nerds along the way. This week was pretty heavy with News Around the Nerdosphere, but not wholly devoid of trailers. The guys take a look at trailers for Haunted Hotel and Steve. From there, the guys analyze Paramount's power play as they landed the UFC in a shocking move. What does this mean for Paramount+, and will this help them challenge the streaming heavyweights for the top spot in the industry? The fellas take a look at the upcoming panels for New York Comic Con and give some early thoughts on which ones seem to stand out. Vought Rising gave us a first look at some costumes, Crunchyroll and Delta Airlines partner up, Fallout: Season 2 looks to be headed to New Vegas, and the rift between Beau DeMayo and Kevin Feige gets even uglier. Many in Taiwan have melted down over an article Christian Whiton published (linked below) about "How Trump Lost Taiwan." But typical of many in the government and among DPP denizens, there is more of an effort to discredit the messenger that address the message, including how to address business and quality-of-life issues in Taiwan and how to improve the island's defenses. This week, the Road to Episode 400 begins. The fellas take a look at the latest trailers for Rental Family, Him, and The Paper. Superman might still be making money but that won't stop rumors from springing up about The Batman Part 2. This past week, we got conflicting information about whether we will see Robin in Matt Reeves' highly anticipated sequel. James Gunn seemed to put those rumors to bed, but the Nerds explore them anyway. Universal takes the fight to those misusing AI. Meanwhile, Gina Carrano and Disney settled their differences, leading to lots of speculation about whether, and when, we will see the return of Cara Dune. Speaking of the House of Mouse, ESPN had a massive week, cutting industry-shifting deals with the NFL and WWE. What does it all mean? A large observational study found small but potentially meaningful differences in cardiovascular safety among sulfonylureas compared to DPP-4 inhibitors in type 2 diabetes, with glipizide showing a statistically higher risk of MACE. A separate study revealed that over half of advanced-stage lung and colorectal cancer cases involved missed diagnostic opportunities, highlighting systemic delays in workups and follow-up. Finally, the EchoNext deep learning model accurately predicted structural heart disease from ECG data alone, outperforming cardiologists and showing potential for scalable, cost-effective screening. These findings underscore the importance of individualized treatment, earlier cancer detection, and AI-enabled cardiac diagnostics.

This is a part of our continued coverage of Taiwan's Great Recall. On July 26th, the people of Taiwan voted on whether or not to recall 24 Kuomintang KMT legislators from all across the island. None of the 24 KMT legislators were recalled. This was a blow to the Democratic Progressive Party that could have benefited from a rebalancing of the legislative yuan since it only has 51 of the 113 seats in the legislative yuan or congress. Among the concerns that motivated these civil society recall groups to take action were the unchecked visits of KMT legislators with high level officials in China. In April of 2024 KMT caucus convener Fu Kun-chi led a delegation of 17 KMT legislators to China where they met with the head of China's United Front. When asked the delegation has not been transparent about what was discussed in the meetings with Chinese officials. Two days after the recall vote, on July 28th , I sat down with Jiho Chang, Keelung City Councilor who shared how he faced a retaliatory recall by the KMT. He discussed his thoughts on the outcome of the July 26th recall vote and what this means for the DPP. On August 23 another 7 KMT legislators will be put up for a recall vote. Related Links:
In this episode, hosts Ray Powell and Jim Carouso are joined by Kharis Templeman, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, to analyze the fallout from Taiwan's recent failed recall election attempt and what it means for the island's future. The discussion centers on the July 26 recall votes, where an attempt to remove 24 opposition Kuomintang (KMT) lawmakers from office was rejected by voters. This outcome solidifies a challenging period of divided government for President Lai Ching-te's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which controls the presidency but not the legislature. Templeman explains that the recalls, initiated by grassroots activists concerned about the KMT's legislative agenda, represented a high-stakes effort to shift the balance of power. Their failure means President Lai must continue to navigate an opposition that has resisted efforts to bolster Taiwan's defenses against pressure from the People's Republic of China (PRC).The podcast provides essential context on Taiwan's key political players:• The KMT, or "Blue" camp, is Taiwan's oldest political party. Once staunchly anti-communist, it now advocates for engagement and dialogue with Beijing and is seen as the party the PRC prefers. The KMT positions itself as better able to manage cross-strait relations peacefully.• The DPP, or "Green" camp, is more skeptical of China. The Lai administration has focused on strengthening Taiwan's military and civil resilience, a stance the KMT-led opposition claims is provocative.Templeman unpacks the broader geopolitical implications, touching on how Beijing frames the recall failure as a rejection of "Taiwan independence". The conversation also covers the recent US decision to deny President Lai a stop in New York City during a planned transit visit, a move viewed by many as a concession to Beijing amid ongoing US-China negotiations. This highlights the complex and often transactional nature of the US-Taiwan relationship.Looking ahead, with the recall option almost exhausted, Taiwan's political factions face a stalemate. Templeman suggests this could lead to either more intense partisan conflict or a period of moderation and compromise as both parties eye the 2026 local elections. This episode offers a crucial analysis of the domestic power struggles and international pressures shaping Taiwan's path forward.
In Taiwan recall bids have been filed against 35 of the 39 Chinese Nationalist Party (the Kuomintang or KMT lawmakers who were directly elected to the legislative yuan in January, 2024. Recall campaigners have said that they want to restore order to Taiwan's legislative yuan, by removing pro-China KMT legislators who have passed amendments to expand the legislature's powers, undermined Taiwan's constitutional order by paralyzing the constitutional court, cut budgets and made Taiwan vulnerable to infiltration by the Chinese Communist Party. Since my interview with 3 recall campaigners in episode 316, I thought it would be good to follow up with an explainer video with political commentator and analyst Courtney Donovan Smith about how the recall mechanism in Taiwan works and what led to this mass recall effort. And in a few days from now our two-person team will be heading back to Taiwan to witness and cover the July 26th recall vote. History is being made in the only way it can be in a vibrant democracy like Taiwan! Here's a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode: How the recall mechanism works in Taiwan Past cases of politicians who have faced a recall vote Factors leading to the Bluebird Movement and Recall Efforts The expanded powers of the legislative yuan that were ruled unconstitutional What happened to paralyze Taiwan's constitutional court What has motivated the people campaigning to recall KMT legislators Why the KMT's recall efforts against DPP legislators have failed How Ko Wen-je's supporters have reacted to his detainment due to corruption charges DPP involvement with recall efforts How some of the Kuomintang KMT have shifted from being anti-Communist China to pro-Communist China (PRC) The historical significance of Taiwan's mass recall votes of legislators If the DPP is behind the recalls of KMT legislators What happens next after the recall vote The impact of the Sunflower Movement Related Links: https://talkingtaiwan.com/the-great-recall-explained-by-courtney-donovan-smith-ep-317/
