Congressman Eric Swalwell announced last month that he was joining the crowded race to replace California governor Gavin Newsom. The Dublin lawmaker enters a fluid contest with no overwhelming favorite. Recent polling shows Swalwell - along with former house member Katie Porter and Republicans Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton - in the 10-15% range, with a small fleet of other candidates struggling to break out of the single digits.Swalwell has been one of President Trump's most vocal critics in the House and served as impeachment manager during Trump's second impeachment. While that visibility likely increases his favorability with Democratic voters, it comes at a cost: he has been hit with allegations of mortgage and tax fraud by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte. Pulte, an ally of President Trump has made similar claims against two other Trump antagonists, New York AG Letitia James and Federal Reserve Board of Governors Member Lisa Cook. Swalwell strongly disputes the allegations and filed a suit against Pulte on November 25. US equity markets retreated on Thursday as the Dow was on pace for its worst week in a month as strong Nvidia earnings weren't enough to cool investor fears. Dow fell -386.51 points or 0.84%. Notable stock moves included Cisco Systems Inc (-3.76%), Boeing Co (-3.4%) and Nvidia Corp (-3.15%) all falling >3%.The S&P500 and Nasdaq saw its largest intraday reversals since April's tariff woes. The broader S&P 500 declined -103.40 points or -1.56%.

The Aussie market suffered its worst day in about ten weeks on Friday, sliding 1.4% and hitting a four month low as a mix of rate concerns, weak China data and a tech sell-off pushed the ASX lower for a fourth straight session. Tech led the declines with a 4.5% drop, leaving the sector down more than 9% for the week, while the major banks also weighed heavily, including CBA which shed more than 10 percent across the past five days. Energy was the only sector to turn positive late in the day as oil prices bounced after reports of a Ukrainian drone strike on a Russian export hub. China’s latest figures added to the gloom, showing further weakness across investment, property and factory activity. Company news was limited, though Megaport tumbled after a capital raise and DroneShield rebounded slightly from yesterday’s sharp fall. First came a spirited but losing effort against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, followed by a truly shambolic defeat at Old Trafford to Manchester United.Manny and Simon pull no punches in their review. They call out Enzo Maresca's worst week as Chelsea manager so far, criticizing his tactical approach and some of his choices. Governor Newsom and Democratic allies announced Thursday that they will propose a constitutional amendment — The Election Rigging Response Act — to counter Texas and other Red states' mid-decade redistricting plans. Framing the proposal as a response to GOP efforts to Gerrymander and "rig" Texas' elections next year in order to protect Republican control of congress, the proposal would replace California's current congressional district maps with new maps to be used in the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections.  The California's Citizens Redistricting Commission would resume mapmaking duties after the 2030 census.Our guest today is California political data and redistricting whiz Paul Mitchell, who was tasked with coming up with the new maps just two weeks ago.
