In one of the most important books published in 2025—Dilemmas of Authenticity: The American Muslim Crisis of Faith, published by UNC Press—Zaid Adhami explores questions of religious doubt, authenticity, and crisis of faith. The book examines what many American Muslims describe as a crisis of faith, but Adhami shows that this crisis is less about losing belief and more about the pressures of authenticity. In a cultural moment where people are expected to be true to themselves and to believe sincerely, faith becomes something that must feel emotionally real and personally chosen. Drawing on ethnographic research and intimate conversations with American Muslims, Adhami shows how this demand for authenticity can produce doubt and anxiety, while also becoming a powerful ground for recommitment to tradition. The book challenges familiar narratives of secularization and religious decline, and instead offers a nuanced account of how faith is lived, questioned, and sustained in an age that privileges “authenticity.” The book would be of tremendous benefit to scholars and students of religion, anthropology, sociology, and American studies, as well as to those working on Islam in the United States. It will also resonate with scholars, students, and anyone who has tried to make sense of the complicated relationship between doubt, authenticity, and faith in contemporary American society. Today on the Driven by Data Dilemmas Show, host Catherine Dowden-King is joined by Lisa Allen, Director of Data, The Pensions Regulator. In this episode, they discuss three key stories surrounding a career crisis. They discuss how someone can come into the data world as entry-level talent, someone re-adjusting their role in the data space, and the challenges being seen in the data engineer market.Lisa offers her advice on entering the market and how to be a competitive candidate, and words of caution to her fellow leaders.Remember, you can send your own dilemmas to community@orbitiongroup.com, and Catherine will gladly read them to our expert guests to answer and provide their own insight on.Driven by Data Dilemmas is the spin-off show from the Driven by Data Podcast! Catherine Dowden-King is joined by some of our best-loved senior leaders in the data, analytics and AI space to ask them to share their experiences, advice and thoughts on data dilemmas.
We can't avoid the AI conversation, and honestly, pretending it's not happening is the worst possible strategy. So instead of speculating or panicking, I want to have a really open, frank chat about what it's doing to our brains, and how we can control it.So I started looking for an expert who was actually thinking seriously about this space, not in a hypey way or a doom way, but in a thoughtful, academic way. Then I came across one of Shae O Ominijo's videos, and immediately knew she was exactly the person to have this conversation with.If you want to actually learn about AI without fear mongering, how it's fuelling anti intellectualism, and what we can all individually do about it to use it in a more thoughtful way, stick with me, because Shae is doing a Harvard PHD on exactly that! I hope you love this conversation as much as I did. +SHAE OMONIJOIG: https://www.instagram.com/iamshaeo/?hl=en TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@iamshaeoSubstack: https://shaeomonijo.substack.com/ +SIGN UP TO THE WORKING HARD NEWSLETTER: https://graceb.myflodesk.com/k0sfhlac34+FOLLOW THE PODCASTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/workinghard...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@workinghardpo...+DILEMMA SUBMISSIONIf you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to podcast@grace-beverley.com with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on instagram!+MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/+RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. Show NotesOn the Spotlight this week, we wrap up the Australian Open where dramatic semi finals saw Alcaraz overcome cramp (to Zverev's dismay), Djokovic overcome Sinner (to Ross' prediction dismay), and then Alcaraz overpower Djokovic to win a career Grand Slam. Elana Rybakina won the women's title, powered by a dominant serve and a few harsh, but helpful words from her coach. Then it's a concussion and head injury discussion, with a Spotlight on football and rugby. Should young children be tackling and heading a football? We explore those debates and discover that bans and delays don't play out quite the same way in the two sports, but that many unanswered questions remain. A recent paper by Ross and some colleagues finds that rugby players wearing headgear are more likely to suffer injuries than those not wearing headgear. An odd finding, but confounded by history and bias, as a lesson for how research limitations play out.And finally, does Karsten Blummenfelt really have a VO2max of 101 ml/kg/min? The Norwegian triathlete published that number earlier in the week, and it was met with skepticism bordering on ridicule. We discuss why the number isn't physiologically believable, what it means, and how errors in measurement might occur. Finally finally, if you enjoy the show and want to show your support, then become a Supporter with a small monthly donation, and you'll also get access to our Community Chat, and, as discussed in this show, upcoming Live Event Coverage.LinksThe Contact Conundrum: Are We Introducing Contact at the Correct Time in Youth Sports?Wearing Regulation Soft-Padded Headgear Does Not Reduce the Risk of Head Injuries in Professional Men's Rugby Players: An Observational Cohort StudyThe Spennymoor Heading Trial ArticleArticle on Bulmenfelts 101 VO2max Hosted on Acast. You can do all the glowing up in the world, but here's the thing, if you don't actually trust yourself, none of it means anything.I've worked really hard on my self confidence and self assurance over the last few years, and honestly, it's been way harder than I expected. Even now, there are days where if someone questioned me enough, I'd genuinely start doubting things I know are true. And that's not because I'm incapable, it's because I've learnt that self belief does not come naturally to most of us, and is something you have to actively build. So today, I want to talk about what a real glow up actually looks like, not just externally, but internally too. This isn't about being nice to yourself all the time and saying it's self care, it's about discipline, boundaries, structure, and self worth, and how those things actually work together in reality.I'm chatting to Dr Ewoma to break this down properly, from building self assurance without losing self awareness, to tightening up your routines, elevating your everyday habits, and yes of course, getting your skincare right without overcomplicating it.+DR EWOMAIG: https://www.instagram.com/drewomaukeleghe/?hl=en TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@skndoctor?lang=en +SIGN UP TO THE WORKING HARD NEWSLETTER: https://graceb.myflodesk.com/k0sfhlac34+FOLLOW THE PODCASTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/workinghard...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@workinghardpo...+DILEMMA SUBMISSIONIf you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to podcast@grace-beverley.com with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on instagram!+MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/+RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. There are snowstorms blowing where Gary is and Jonathan can see rain falling outside in Perth's midsummer, but the Motel Six has been safely relocated and the Gershwin Room is open once again. Conversation starts off, perhaps incoherently, with dystopias and dystopian fiction, segues to Travis Baldree and the somewhat misdescribed notion of cozy fiction, and then wanders here and there before Jonathan has to head off for a family event. Nothing was resolved, but almost no conversational gambits were harmed during recording. As always, we hope you enjoy the ramble, and will be back with more before you know it!

If you've ever stood in front of a full wardrobe and still felt like you had nothing to wear, let me tell you, you are not alone. I'm going to be really honest with you, I find deciding what to wear SO hard, not only do I never give myself enough time, but my neurodivergent brain makes it very difficult to visualise outfits beyond my go-to items, but at the same time I really want to be creative and enjoy getting dressed, and nothing makes me feel better than a great outfit! So, I made it one of my new year's resolutions this year is to be more intentional about my outfits, and find an easier way to do so when I'm busy and stressed. So I've gone down a rabbit hole and looked through all the advice from the experts, and I wanted to make is a busy girl's guide to how to dress better, for all of us who get that wardrobe paralysis! It's a super detailed one where we're really getting into the weeds of how grace does it to make sure it is as efficient as possible, from my years of playing with Google calendar. + SIGN UP TO THE WORKING HARD NEWSLETTER: https://graceb.myflodesk.com/k0sfhlac34+FOLLOW THE PODCASTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/workinghardpod/?hl=en-gbTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@workinghardpodcast?lang=en+DILEMMA SUBMISSIONIf you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to podcast@grace-beverley.com with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on instagram!+MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/+RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. The guys celebrate the Miami Heat snapping their three-game losing streak with a win over the Phoenix Suns, as Bam Adebayo finally steps up and delivers a strong performance. The Miami Dolphins' coaching search continues, with new reports emerging about potential candidates for the job. Tobin and Leroy discuss what the Dolphins would have to give up to acquire Mike Tomlin—and it's looking bleak, to say the least.
Episode 229: Hosts Richard Kyte and Scott Rada are off this week, so we looked back through our show archives and are sharing four of our favorite ethical dilemmas from the past several months. Topics include whether it’s OK to correct the actions of other people’s children, what advice you’d give your friend who won a lottery jackpot, the ethics around quick conversations and the proper etiquette when staying at an Airbnb.
Today we're back for another episode of our new year series, and we are doing a big fat new year reset with someone who makes nutrition simple instead of stressful!! Because too many of us get caught up in fad diets at this time of year and sometimes we all just need a good talking to by someone who knows their sh*t. GQ Jordan is a performance nutritionist who has built a huge online audience by breaking down metabolism, gut health, energy, and sustainable habits in a way that actually feels doable. So if you are starting the new year feeling low on energy, confused about what to eat, or stuck in the all or nothing cycle, this episode is for you!+GQ JORDANIG: https://www.instagram.com/gqjordannutrition/?hl=enWebsite: https://www.gqjordannutrition.com/+SIGN UP TO THE WORKING HARD NEWSLETTER: https://graceb.myflodesk.com/k0sfhlac34+FOLLOW THE PODCASTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/workinghard...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@workinghardpo...+DILEMMA SUBMISSIONIf you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to podcast@grace-beverley.com with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on Instagram!+MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/+RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. On this episode of America at Night, with McGraw Milhaven the show opens with Blois (Bloyce) Olson, Chief Political Commentator at WCCO, breaking down what's really happening with Minneapolis daycares, cutting through headlines to explain the policy failures and political realities impacting families on the ground. Next, the focus shifts overseas as Matthew McGuire, foreign policy and international economy expert and former U.S. Executive Director to the World Bank, analyzes the reported capture of Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro, arguing the episode exposes U.S. weakness rather than strength on the global stage. Finally, Lt. Gen. Richard Y. Newton (Ret.), former Assistant Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and senior national security contributor, offers a strategic and security-focused assessment of the Maduro capture, weighing its implications for U.S. credibility, regional stability, and America's posture toward authoritarian regimes. Calvin Betton is in Brisbane but that won't stop him getting on the podcast (even if it does stop him getting any sleep). He joins James Gray for the first half of this week's podcast before subbing out for George Bellshaw, who sleeps soundly in his childhood bedroom in the West Midlands. They discussed... - Emma Raducanu pulls out of her season debut (she eventually played Maria Sakkari)... ...and she's testing a new racket - Stefanos Tsitsipas reveals he considered retirement after battling a back injury last year - Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Calvin relaunch their defence of the 250 - Novak Djokovic pulls out of the PTPA - Venus Williams gets an Australian Open wildcard but Nick Kyrgios is made to wait for his - Katie Boulter links up with a new coach in Michael Joyce - Iga Swiatek questions why we needed another "Battle of the Sexes" And finally, could Lionel Messi really win 50 grand slams?! Abi Foster is a finance expert who's on a mission to help people actually understand their money and feel more confident with their finances. I always say I won't shy away from money conversations on this podcast because as much as we don't want to admit it, it is so important to all of our lives, and insanely still taboo for podcast with a primarily female audience. Today we talked about everything from how to start building real financial confidence, to the biggest money mistakes people make in their 20s and 30s, I hope it really helps! +ABIGAIL FOSTERIG: https://www.instagram.com/abigailrosefoster/?hl=en LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/abigailrosefoster Book: https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/468579/the-money-manual-by-foster-abigail/9781529147032 +SIGN UP TO THE WORKING HARD NEWSLETTER: https://graceb.myflodesk.com/k0sfhlac34+FOLLOW THE PODCASTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/workinghard...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@workinghardpo...+DILEMMA SUBMISSIONIf you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to podcast@grace-beverley.com with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on instagram!+MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/+RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed.
